Help me bring my hermes back - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Hi guys, i bought my hermes (o2 trion) in 2007. It came with windows mobile 5. In march 2008, i decided to upgrade to windows mobile 6. After some time, i noticed it draining battery within a few hours and the device started emitting more heat than usual. Initially, i thought that there was a problem with the device and bought it to the local htc retailer. The guy there told me that the was a problem with the board and it needed to be replaced. I found it weird coz a few days earlier, it was working fine. As the board was a bit too expensive, i decided not to get it replaced. My hermes had been sitting in a drawer since. Today, i came across this article on the xda wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms It mentioned this:
"Problems with the device emitting more heat than usual, shorter battery life, long drop out periods where the device looks for a network or other "odd" intermittent radio issues can be a warning that something may not be right."
I continued getting signal but the device started heating and draining battery faster. Today, i thought that it may be a problem with the radio software. How to i flash a new radio?
My device has the following software on it
Rom: schap's 4.31
Date: 10/03/07
Radio version: 1.48.00.10
Would flashing a windows 6.5 version solve the problem? Thanks for your inputs gys.

ok, i upgraded to joshkoss's light 6.5 rom but the radio didnt get updated. Can somebody direct me to a rom which contains it's own radio? thanks.

you've got a pm from me

i flashed the latest radio. seems that something is wrong with the device itself. it still heats up and battery end fast when i activate my phone function.

try taking it apart and cleaning out all the dust?

I had this problem, i opened and i noticed that the camera wasn't in the right position. Now it works perfectly

Camera not in right position ? Care to explain further?

If you open it you'll notice that the camera is linked to the rest of the phone with a very small connection and can move from its place (sorry for my english). I don't know why but it moved from the right position and so some electric contact didn't work very well, causing fast battery drain and warming the phone. I just put it in the right position

Battery life and WM 6.0
Have had similar issuses with mine but now seem all OK, flashed with Hardspl to permanently unlock the ROM, and make bootloader freely accessiable to all other flash programs, and then downloaded and flashed with Dark Visions ROM and now battery lasts all day instead of 60 minutes.
I has become so frustrated with the 60 minute battery life i had purchased a new battery only to discover it was the ROM and not the Battery.
Apparently the battery monitor software in WM 6.0 drains the battery real fast
I am still searching for a ROM that lets me connect to Telsra in Australia and can open email attachements, but I am real close to what I want out of my JasJam

random crashes

my htc p3300 started to give me random crashes, hanging spontaniously without any reproducable scenario.
Sometimes it happens when the device is in power-saving mode, sometimes during connection to PC while being charged, once it gave me during the phone conversation.
The About shows:
CE OS 5.2.1238 (build 17745.0.2.3)
I can't remember which ROM it was exactly, but I downloaded it from these boards. I hate using original French versions hence I started to look for English one. Oh, and when phone boots it gives T-Mobile boot screen.
Anyways, I did a hardware reset, and it was running without a single crash for a whole day. Till this moment. It crashed again, software reset didn't work, had to do it hard way.
I contacted the vendor, and they are OK to send it for repairs, but it's gonna take around 3 weeks, plus I am not sure that they will be able to reproduce the problem, and what I am also not sure in, is that they may simply reflash the ROM with standard French version and be done with it.
So I am trying to get some help and opinions while downloading Mesche's vanilla v2 ROM to give it a final try.
Any ideas and comments are welcome
d3sp
no ideas, anyone?
I flashed with vanilla custom rom, and I only got 1-2 crashes so far..
Also when it crashes, sometimes the screen goes gray or dirty white-ish
and I can see vertical stripes on it..
I have exactly the same problem. I think the problem has to-do with cpu temprature. When its a hot day, I get it all the time. I think I am going to open it up, and check if the problem is with dirt inside.
sounds like a over heating problem, the screen usually goes dodgy if it gets too hot (same with most LCD screen products).
Do u have a program to show the temperature? (i use BatteryStatus, so get the temp from there).
thats really strange, i doubt it's a temperature that makes him sick
for example, it went dead last night, it was not hot inside my house, but the phone still went dead, so I had to hard reset it
I am facing the three weeks of horror without my artemis (( since I am out of ideas and going to send it to repair to manufacturer

Seriously.
It may be some software you have running on it. What all to you have? And, are you running the original ROM or a cooked ROM? You may have to warranty it if everything is stock.

Well, i just reinstalled fresh new vanilla something ROM that I took on these very boards.
The original ROM is in French, so that's not an option for me.
And yeh, my artemis is still in warranty, so I'm going to exercise that option, I'm afraid

Xda Orbit switching off after upgrading ROM

I have recently installed Artemis Touch 4.01 on my XDA Orbit. This seemed fine for a week or 2, but recently, I have found the phone swited off in my pocket (not in standby, i.e. hold power button in for few secs to swich back on).
Could this be a software bug, as this has never happened on O2 firmware?
If the only explanation for this is that the power button has been inadvertently pressed, can the keypad lock be set to lock automatically?
Thanks
Flashed to Touch 4.02 last night and I'm having the exact same problem.
I flashed to ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.02 2 weeks ago and have had my XDA Orbit shut off 7-10 times already. One of those times was when I was on a phone call with a friend. I just reflashed to ARTEMIS TOUCH VANILLA 4.02 today and have already had it shut off on me while I was driving. Can anyone make any sense of this? Any suggestions to fix this horrible problem of ours?
Battery ?
Hi folks,
I had my XDA doing strange things too. Battery status (%) all over the place, fast drain aso. found the XDA switched off. Was thinking about ROMs, SD card (I've a 8 gig one) and BT which I use regular, but the easy solution
I just bought a new battery
Standby is back to 3 days with some use in between, doesn't switch off unintended anymore.
May just think off how old your battery might be and how often you loaded it!
I was also thinking it was the battery so I decided instead of buying a brand new one I would drain the power and start from scratch. Yesterday I drained the battery down to 0% then recharged it. Since then I haven't had it shut off on me. I'll let you guys know the progress on if its fixed or not.. lets hope so. Thanks for the suggestion fun! I'll check back in about 5-7 days letting you guys know what has happened.
i went into settings/today and checked off the check box for htc home, this reset htc home to default settings (but still displays it regardless of the checkbox value) and it's been fine since...
wtf?
i've only had these problems since 4.02, everything was fine until then (I was on 3.xx before that and B&B before that and it's always been fine).
I've also flashed to Vanilla 4.2 with Radio 03.08.90 and the phone cut out on me during conversation and after that it would say invalid simcard.
After that I had it flashed with the original O2 WM6 ROM and radio 03.08.90 and now I have no power drain at all.
I've had it charged almost 25 hours ago and had not used the phone but for one call and just to check the time on it and I am still on 100 percent power. (battery Status)
I am amazed. Before, by this time I would be down to 85 or so percent.
I had just soft reset the phone to make sure Battery Status didn't get stuck on 100 percent but it still says 100 percent after the reboot. So I guess it's true.
The Rom is stable and no turn offs and works great with TomTom too.
This happened to me and flashing never fixed it. The problem is more than likely the battery but I took mine back to o2 (because it is on contract. You have a waranty for the same length as your contract, they just dont tell you). Take it back the shop, if its not your fault they will fix it. In my case they couldn't and they gave me a brand new XDA Orbit and battery.
Alright guys its been 5 days since I posted and guess what? My Orbit has yet to shut off! Woo hoo *knock on wood*. But if any of you would like to try what I did just let you battery drain out until its fully drained Then just charge it until its full again. Please let us know your findings if you do decide to try this out. Hope this solves your problems!

sometime NO GSM and sometime will detect a radio rom.

why my dopod 838pro sometime it cannot detect a radio rom and show a NO GSM, but if detect it a radio rom and it will hang about and half hours and reset will turn back to NO GSM, is hardware or software prob, anyone can give me a solution?
Provide more information - OS version and Radio version. Its probably a hardware problem but you may try to reflash to a manufacturer's shipped version and retest.
I had the same problem basically. Phone would freeze up, get repeated NO GSM messages, drop the radio even when it finds it after several minutes of use. I did buy the phone off eBay used and it did freezeup in WM5 ALOT.
I took the phone apart and cleaned all the contacts - same problems. Reflashed manufacturer's rom again and it took. Before it sometimes would hang up - looking for GSM radio. Took it apart again FULLY and put everything back together. It is now working for the past week. No freezeups or drops. Seems to always find GSM on bootup.
last time using a official rom wm6 also freeze up, then flash it to manila2d rom, it also got a same prob, try reflash a radio rom, but always get stuck at 6%, but try and try then 100% done, but also same prob.
so ur solution is try Reflashed manufacturer's rom again?
Thats what I did but the flash alone didn't fix the problem. I don't think a rom flash will bring your phone back but you may get lucky. I had to open it up and clean and reposition things. For some reason it worked. I still get screen fade to white and the directional pad on the front sometimes doesn't work - you move the scroll wheel and it will work again. Might have to replace the dPad circuit board or flex cable. The HERMES seems to have MAJOR problems with quality control and the radios. I personally think the battery presses against a backing plate which rests directly against the chipsets. The silver plate behind the battery does flex and it shouldn't. It probably should be a little thicker to prevent flexing. The heat from charging and the pressure from the battery I think causes the radios to fail. Bad soldering also may be a problem but any pressure on a motherboard and chipsets isn't a good thing. Also screws that are too tight also may contribute to the problem.
My phone has been working for about a week. Prior to that it was getting constant NO GSM errors on bootup and dropped calls. Today the phone was out of the house for the first time in weeks and it worked without any problems - no freezes (did a lot before) and no dropped radio. It has been sitting on my desk for two weeks without any problem. Will try it a few more days and see.
herm200 no GSM
Hi! I have read all thread about no GSM from here.
I have already do many many tests, tried to flash any radio rom extracted, hard reset, mtty with set 1e 1... I have already dissasemble and reassemble it
but no one fix the problem No GSM.
I have the same probleme, sometime no gsm and sometime ok.
So please, if anyone find everything which can fix this problem please post it!
Sorry for my english!
Thanks a lot for all jobs and helps.
Hello all, my hermes had this problem too!
Sometime it works, " 1.56.70.11" and sometime no! "NO GSM"
i have done about twenty flash thinking it will resolve this problem...
After reading a topic on this problem, i have understand it was an hardware problem. Something unsolde.
I have buy "double face scotch", i have disasemble the phone completely.
And on every chip and on the "battery"( little round and flat) i have put a little piece of scotch. it will do a pression on every chip to keep chip connected on the motherboard.
From this moment, the phone has never freeze, no more "no gsm" message!
ALL IS GOOD
Sorry for my poor english.
Many things can affect the radio
Try this...
Un plug your batt... insert a big piece of aluminium under the batt over the gsm chip... it wil not work properly... Magnetic issues... the batt do this things too i prove it on a Nokia... the batt without the stick = radio problem no signal...
Abd here i got the same trouble no gsm sometimes i realized that has been a lot flashes but noup, was a dialer that makes this issues 3G phone canvas,.... back to touch dialer 3G or 2G and its good now... think the CPROG and some other is not so compatible.
Desperately please help me, my Dopod 838 Pro has No GSM!
hey dude try another rom... the roms with HTC phonecanvas 2g or 3g do this issues on my hermes dunno why... thats th reason i dont cook anymore phoncanvas on my roms.
Update Radio ROM to 1.47
I had same problem just recently, and the recommendation that I got was update your Radio ROM ONLY...I upgrade to Radio 1.47 as all the time I was loosing service connection as well as No GSM...after this, my Hermes took live again.
I had 1.16 Radio...!!! and that issue came up after upgrading to one of the so many cooked ROM...I don't remember which one...
Check this link for more info, it saved my life!!!

Very Weird Battery Problem

Hi everyone! (Sorry the bad english)
I have an HTC S621 (Dash) whit a very weird problem.
Some months ago, the battery has become to discharge very fast. Like From 100% to 0 in 35/40 minutes.
But even whit 100% of charge, if you turn wifi on or make a call, the phone turns off in a few seconds. And when I turn it on again, it show 60% charged.
So, wondering its a battery problem, I bought a new one and unfortunately the same problem still happen.
So, someone have the same problem? Can anyone help me? Tanks a lot!
Not strange infact u would have found threadz with exact same issue if searched? new battery solves it "generally".
I am not sure that I understood what you wanted to say, but:
- I bought a new battery > Not Work
- I've search in the forum, have no found some one with the same problem (The people usually solved your problems changing the battery, not work for me)
- I've originaly used an original ROM from HTC, but I try lots of ROMs (WM5, 6 and 6.1) > not work too.
Tanks!
same problem here, but new battery solved it, this is my fourth battery for my dash since 2007...

Herp derp, if a new battery and different ROM's didn't, it's the actual phone.
Lrn2deduct xD
I have tried something different: I have an old nokia phone and the battery is 3,7V/860Ma. It have almost the same size of the Dash battery, is a little small. Well I put her on Dash and works fine for hours. With Wifi, phone and bluetooth on. I set to never power off the backlight and open an internet radio to test and just works fine. The only problem is the battery metter is not show the real state of the battery. It jump from 90% to 89% and stop. After almost 50m it jumps again to 70%, etc..
I wondering if the phone have a problem to charge the battery only. So I have a new questions:
There will be a problem charge the 860Ma battery on S621 to test? The Original has 960Ma. I fear explosions!
Tanks!

My post meant generally a new battery fixes it to which would have found via search, if not then it's hardware related or you baught a duff battery? "has been known to happen with new battery too" also can be found via search
Would not advise using a battery from another phone full stop.
Sounds like your Dash has had it's last dayz

Yea...
I will try two last things... use the warranty to exchange this battery for a new one to be sure that is not a factory problem on her, and buy a standalone wall charger to recharge the battery without the phone.
I need this phone alive a little more time because he belongs in truth to my wife, (I bought a Kaiser for me a few months) and I will not buy a new one for her this days (sorry honey)...
Smartphones like Dash are cheap on North America and Europe but on Brasil they cost around R$ 500,00 ($270,00) and for now is too much for me
Tanks!

If the Dash cost $270.00; how much was the Kaiser?
yea that surely calls for a new Battery !
just this time try to get a high capacity battery like 2200mA/h or something because the standart one is only 960mA/h I got my 2200mA/h with abt 20 $ on ebay which is very cheap ! and it stays a hell lot of time with wifi Bluetooth on...
Boa sorte
My battery just went was a 2009 one, just gonna order the 1300 battery shall be Goood! you probably killed it via charging USB or overclocking on Kavana Build etc or it just smoked itself, My 2008 Made S621 died after months too, 1300 stock size battery online is a good choice for this phone.
A new batter should fix it but if you get the original type it's going to do the same thing. You need a battery that has been produced more recently than the originals.
Im pretty sure its cause i overclocked.... but i wanted a nice new 1300 maH battery whats 30 bucks lol )

Artemis turns off during phone call

Hi,
my Artemis turns off every now and then and I'm getting a bit pissed off by the phone. Because it happens exspecially when I'm talking to someone. The error occurred first about two weeks ago and i tried to fix wit an hard reset, but that didn't worked out. I also don't think it has anything to do with the battery, since it also turns off while being connected to the charger.
If anyone knows help, I would be grateful.
i had the same problem and the solution is ......
a new battery
My XDA Orbit is doing the same thing - randomly switching off when in use (either phone call or browsing the web). Its being doing this for over the last two to three weeks and I, too, am getting pissed off with it. My Orbit is over two years old so I'm suspecting the battery although the battery meter states everything is OK. I've just purchase a new battery on-line and, when I receive, I'll let you know if it cures the resetting issue.
Alistair
thanx, that is at least a problem with an easy solution.
@ ajmcfarlane: thx, I'll wait for your post.
Received battery on Saturday and early indications look as though it has cured the problem of the phone resetting. If anything changes, I'll keep you posted.
Cheers, Alistair
great, I'll order a battery right away
i also got same problem in my p3300 so did changing battry really solvd problms?
It will cure it.
awesome.. i think most of us have purchase this amazing handset more or less the same time..
all of our devices loosing out on batt.... no bad..
can any one please update the price of a new battery ?
i am in india now.. will be going to singapore this month end to watch the formula 1.. are there any options to buy it in singapore to save some money on it ??
how much is the new batt ??
I have over 200 of these devices in their various guises, and I can tell you that this is a very common problem. If you are lucky you only need change the battery and the device will be fine. If that does not improve matters then good luck as I am yet to find a solution when the problem is not simply the battery. At the moment my best effort is to flash the device with an upto date original ROM and change the battery. It seems to help but I can't say it fixes them as I have not monitored how the reflashed devices perform yet. I will post when I have used the reflashed devices for a few months and see how they go on

Hi radcarash,
do you have any findings? I got the same issue with one Artemis, and it seams the battery change doesn't help at all. I'm just wondering if you found already another solution to cure this world wide problem.
cheers,
