I have a problem. My Exec is stuck on the bootloader screen. All I see is Serial at the top, and v1.00 at the bottom.
When I connect my exec via USB, the screen continues to say Serial (rather than switching to USB) and the PC I connect to 'installs' the device as 'unknown device' in device manager.
I've seen mention of the problem elsewhere on the site, but the only solution I can find seems to be to keep trying, and eventually it's recognised. So far, after three days of trying, it has not been recognised.
I am aware of Buzz tool to get the device out of bootloader mode, but that required a connection to be established, which at the moment, I can't do.
Has anyone got any experience of this, or any ideas as to what's causing this, or how this can be fixed? I have tried uninstalling the 'unknown device' from device manger, restarting the PC (and hard reset of the Exec) then reconnecting, but the same thing happens every time.
Any ideas would be appreciated, as I'm currently staring at a rather expensive paper weight.
Try this it shld work

This is based on my experience with two UNis..one Exec and other JASJAR..both had same problem...this is how I solved :
-Put yr device in bootloader Mode
-Disable USB in Active Sync
-Now connect woth USB cable and open mtty utility
-Select the "WESUSB... " port
-You shall see a blank white screen..press Enter to get "USB>"
-Then type ( as BUzz has informed) set 14 0
(here I wud like to inform that after doing the above I did not get success so I typed set 14 10,then set 14 9 for two three times)
-Then I ran the ROM Upgrade directly(After enbabling the USB)
-I then followed the procedure as informed on the COngratulations Screen that is hold the two "-" buttons and soft reset and then pressed 0
-I got them back to normal..
I hope this helps to all my friends...Pls feel free..pls do not trouble our Buzz..he might be busy in inventing something more to our devices

Just noticed your user name, I was a big Amiga fan a few years back, still fire up Amiga forever occasionally on my PC when I feel the need.

Try it with a different USB cable or in a different USB port (don't go through a hub and if you've been using a laptop then try it on a desktop PC since some laptops have hubs built into them). If that doesn't work then you're out of luck as your Universal isn't detecting that you've connected to your PC and its time to send it in for repair.
Thanks Niketkumar - unfortunately it's the step before your suggestion kicks in thats the problem - the device won't connect to the PC, so when using mtty WESUSB..... isn't an option, only COM1 and COM2.
Shuflie, I've tried with three separate USB cables on a laptop and desktop (neither through a hub, and the same device has worked fine on both laptop and desktop before).
I fear a trip to the doctors is in order ...
Very frustrating because the PC sees a device, but installs it as unknown device. Anyone know if theres a Windows CE device driver that I could try and install as an overide (i.e. in device manager on the PC go to update driver and browse to a WinCE.inf or equivalent?)
Failing this, has anyone got any clue what needs to be fixed? Or how much it might cost?
i am stuck on the same problem and wondering the forum for almost 3 days now with no luck.... please help my device is in boot loader mood but not turning the serial to USB ......... please HELP.......

Please follow the steps:
1. Plug in ur usb cable in bootloader mode while it is showing 'serial' and version 'x.xx'.
2. Soft reset by pressing Backlight+power+reset pin WHILE KEEPING THE USB CABLE CONNECTED
3. your phone will now reboot into 'usb' mode. Don't remove the usb cable yet.
4. Remove the Memory card while keeping the usb cable still connected and VOILA,your pc starts recognising your phone as Microsoft usb sync.
5. Do whatever you want to do now (upgrade)
Hope it solves the problem now.
Press thanks if it does.
Something else to try
Having had a few issues with my G3 Uni, I've been through my fare share of Uni bootloader issues. When I find that I can't get the 'serial' to go to 'USB', I normally find it's because I haven't taken the memory card or the SIM card out (usually the memory card).
Make sure your memory card is out, then try to enter the bootloader and see if this cures it. If it does, then use mtty and the command 'set 14 0'
This tells it to reboot on reset. if you were to use 'set 14 1' it would go back to the bootloader on reset.

A lot easier than to root this device
hello
i have a uni who stuck on bootloader (BL) bl- v2.01
i use tomal 8.7, browsing aplication and find storage manager (some with partition program... ) and my uni was frozen after reboot ... (long story)
i turn (BL) and want to reflash my rom to other version, but my uni don't want it
i run a mtty/putty and want to do a DoC format, but programs don't want to connect with uni, i try a lot of usb cable, usb ports and a 4 computers with Winxp. i use a few version of mtty and uni exit bootloader, hx4700 bootloader...
and dosent works
yy windows not reconize uni show msg unknown device.
some screeens
http://esiu.kom.pl/universal
uni has no sim or sd card.
Hard reset dosen't works
BL keeps serial when i connect it to pc don't turn to "usb" only shows serial
ps. sory for my english
ps2. hmm i think i brick this uni testing storage manager ( option with unmount partiion or something)
ps3. please a sugestion to repair uni
Hello,
I think if you look on HERE the all will be there for you to sort out your problem
Regards
Jay
hmm ive read many times universal wiki and i dont find there a solution.
i think when i "using" storage aplication in tomal 8,7 i delete a partition then it "stuck"
uni in bl mode when plug usb cable don't change to "usb" stuck on "Serial"
if usb cable is pluged in when i turn bl mode when "usb" shows but dosent react with pc ... don't recognize it, active sync have unmarked 'usb connections'
Do you have your SD card and Sim card out of the PDA??
If you cannot see
Serial changing to USB on your device, I say your USB port is damaged and that prevents you from flashing any ROM or device being recognised by PC.
hmm so my port in uni is dameged? ok its software damage or hardware damage ? 10 minutes before uni was stuck i change rom few times.
Can any one help with this?
My Diamond has developed the short battery life/over heating problem, along with the USB connection having failed.
So I put the ROM back to the standard T-Mobile one via Wi-Fi to return for warranty repair.
However, I forgot to change the SPL back, so they are refusing to sort it.
My next thought was to get HTC to repair it, but thought I'd best stick the T-Mobile SPL back for good measure.
But the update failed (tried more than once) and I'm stuck on the bootloader with "Upgrade ROM Code Error, Please Try Again" and only "Serial" showing as a connection option, no USB (yes with a cable connected to a PC).
Is there anyway at all I can get to Internal Storage to try another update?
Thank you.
hello,
i had a similar problem. after flashin a buggy rom the diamond made a reboot and hang at the initializing screen. i tried a garanty repait but htc saw the spl and denys my garanty. so i started to ask google for help.
i got the device in bootloader mode, showing "serial". but i got no active sync connection. but after any tries i got the firmware update tool into "usb" mode and was able to flash. now my diamond is still alive.
maybe you have to play a bit to get it workin..
wish you luck..!
Try with another usb cable, computer. And explane me this

How you can flash rom via wi-fi :S
I've tried 3 PCs and as many USB cables, it appears to be a hardware fault tied in with the overheating...
And sorry, I didn't explain very well regarding the Wi-Fi.
I simply used that as a file transfer method as I couldn't connect via USB. Saved the SPL as diamimg.nbh and did the Vol- + Back reset.
Understand now. Maybe usb connector is damaged by overheating or something else. I can't help you anything because diamond don't have microsd card - can't flash via microsd method
Solution about that wp7 device like HTC HD7 connected to the computer cannot be identified.
This solution only applies to that relocked/locked HD7`s USB Mode Status is Diag Mode and cannot be identified. The Zune had no way to synchronize HD7.Some drivers problem can refer to the website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944909/zh-cn
My solution is limited only to the following:
1.HD7 installed USBModeSwitch.xap in the unlock state and change USB Mode Status from normal Zune Mode to Diag Mode with the UMS tool. After that, then in the absence of the usb mode status back to the case of zune mode,it was uninstalled by some reason, and lost the unlock permissions.
2.Other relevant conditions not mentioned above.
The whole drivers installed in all the circumstances,at this time HD7 connected to the computer via usb cable, but zune software did not recognize and synchronize HD7.Look in device manager is displayed as "unknown device" with two yellow failed to identify the device.
This moment hd7 state in the tri-color screen (vol- button and power button),state in the usb mode (vol- button, photography button and power button),PC equipment can identify HD7.And it can reflash official verdor rom.
I tried contacting some gay from xda forum and try to resolve this USB error.
1.My phone is u.s. Tmobile HD7,spl state not unlocked ,no security unlock words exist.
2.The USB error exists in the spl underlying, system reset and flash series offical vendor rom can not make the situation better.
3.Solution to ,way through the Y-cable and goldcard to flash another vendor series offical rom,or spl unlock to get SuperCID to flash the rom.
Tips,
1.The way through the Y-cable and goldcard to flash another vendor series offical rom can be found in xda forum.
2.Now HD7 spl lock can be unlock via Y-cable + goldcard + whitecard.Through that SuperCID permission can be obtain so that I can flash any rom I want.

For Chinese it can be refered to the website below
http://www.qdppc.com/thread-45087-1-1.html
Whitecard,in China we named it like that,is a white SIM card which is widely used in industrial production and testing process communication. After using this SIM card to unlock the phone system boot mode will be changed, when the phone is switch on when the loading system engineering test unit will be loaded into the startup intend.
Hi,
i have the problem as described above (Unknown Device error)
But i don't understand how i can solve it....
PLEASE can you give me information what i need, and what i have to do exactly...
i'm desperate
Thank you....
Read my post content carefully.
So my understanding is this:
1: You boot the phone while holding down the -ve volume button
2: Connect the phone to the computer when the three different colour bands are showing
3: Wait until windows detects all the necessary drivers. BTW my computer detected it as a Qualcomm CDMA device. Is this normal?
4: Now this is where I got lost. You flash it with a ROM from a DIFFERENT telecom?
5: Once it has been flashed you do something with a Y-cable, a whitecard (a blank SIM card I think) and a goldcard (don't have a clue what this is)
6: Now superCID (something I once again don't have a clue about) does something so you can flash any ROM you want.
I don't see how this solves the issue of returning the phone to Zune mode but maybe someone else can make sense of it.
I, and many others, would greatly appreciate the help.
Thank you.
Hello, I have bricked my S8500. I can go to the download menu. The problem is that I can't install properly USB drivers , or maybe it is USB cable that is wrong, the USB cable is from nokia and model is : CA101. Even when the phone was working ok computer couldn't see my wave , and I don't know why... So the problem is that when I go to the Download menu my computer detects all the drivers and everything is alright... And when I hit download I get this.
Download Start Ch[0]
BootLoader 1703.9KB OK[0.7s]
Dbl 281.5KB OK[0.8s]
Wait reset !!
Serial port detect error!
And after Wait reset my computer just didn't recognize my phone anymore, and that's why it has been bricked at the begining. Could anyone please help me? I tried different USB drivers, different PC. Nothing helps :{{{ Please guys, help me.
Maybe it is because my USB cable isn't from original wave, or no?

I too use Nokia table to flash my samsung wave. If your phone was able to connect to Kies prior to flashing there should be no issues.
When you flash for 1st time you always get that error. Pls try once again and you shd not face any issues.

No, I wasn't able to connect to kies. I got a USB cable from original xperia x10, still same issue... Can someone tell me what to do? I downloaded a lot of drivers, but maybe there is some special driver? :/
The problem usually goes away for me when flashing from a freshly booted pc, so try restarting one of your computers for flashing and try again.
Have done that too... Any advice? :/
Hello!
First kill all Kies Processes (in the Task Manager)
Second launch Multiloader and try to flash
When it says Serial Error, just do Port Search again, and it should work
That's what I did when I had my Serial Port error ^^
Hope I helped you

Just after this message, without quit Multiloader:
Phone on DOWNLOAD MODE try this:
Uncheck Boot, unplug USB Cable from Phone and Plug it again, You will see Download actived in Multiloader, Just clic on DOWNLOAD. And your Flashing will be continued....

Same thing happened to me. After this, you shouldn't disconnect you wave, but to wait, and click search port again. If there is no port again, tru with different multiloader (mine was v5.65), and there is again same problem, try with another computer with preinstalled USB drivers.
The good thing is that your phone still enters boot mode. If it wasn't the case, then it would be a total brick.
Best regards

No, you didn't understand this flashing process. Most important thing here is to avoid interrupting of connection between computer and phone, even in serial port error. You need to search port again, or to change things that I mentioned above.
You hit download, then bootloader is loaded. It is absolutely normal in this algorithym to reset phone (wait reset). Then our error appears in port error. That is the time when you should click port search again, and when it finds it again (it will) click download button. Thats how it was in my case already 4 times.. Hope I helped.
Best regards
I have told that I reinstalled a lot of drivers and tried different PC's, nothing helps. I tried about 3 or 4 versions of multiloader still same result :/ I don't know what to do anymore... Please any advices? Maybe someone had the same issue?
I don't really know what happened. We switched our cables with my friend again, and I tried to flash with Nokia cable. And everything went okay for the 1 time. No errors, no nothing, no Unknown USB device problem. This is really strange. Thank you for you help friends :}

Try to install driver manually from windows driver menu
Just installed "S8500-Driver-V5_02_0_0" now it's working since I wanted to flashback my friend's Wave from Bada2 to v1
