Somehow it worked, but now... - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Okay, as detailed below I now have an XDA IIs that is off O2 contract, but I still cannot get it to 'see' Orange PAYG. The Signal Strengh icon has an exclamation mark against it and I really need help to get it to connect.
Any help would really be appreciated, it been a really long day.
I received a second-hand O2 XDA IIs this morning.
First I had to unlock it which took two attempts.
Next, updating the rom...this took a little longer and involved completely buggering the ROM half way through so it started playing some really weird tricks. There was also some crying and a lot of swearing. 'Wrong Country ID' has been my constant companion all day.
After an official last attempt (Adding '[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1' to RUU.conf as suggested on this site) and notching up another failure I went out for a walk.
When I returned I decided oto have one more un-official attempt and chenged the '1' to a '0', and bugger me the damn thing worked.
I presume all I was telling it was not to bother checking for the Country ID, but in all honesty I have no idea!
So I now have a working XDA though still not connecting to Orange.
I'd like to thank all those who have added such invaluable info' to this site over the years.

O2 woes. Dead O2 after getting it back from customer support

hey all, my XDA II O2 is dead, i have a bit of a story to tell about it too. the poor thing won't boot up past the O2 spash screen.
i was initially selling my O2 around the traps as a working unit, then someone asked me to show them landscape view, and i didn't know how. i soon found out i needed to upgrade to 2003se or 2005. so on my homage to flashing my O2's ROM. i went and tried a 2005 and some random version radio stack hoping to upgrade two things at once, then, only one worked. my OS flash was fine, but my radio ROM didn't work at all. so basically i could get into WM2003, 2003SE, 2005 fine but couldnt use my simcard.
i've tried countless times to manually fix it aswell as using the official O2 ROM update off their site. then i went and sent it to O2 customer service or whatever it's called this year . they charged me $45AUD for general service fee which included flashing the radio and OS roms up to the latest. then they ring me up one morning saying my poor O2 needs a new motherboard (somewhere between $350 - 450 i think). i asked why, they said because it wouldn't power on at all. so i tried turning it on, it didnt work all of a sudden, so to speak.
i still had to pay the $45aud and ended up without a working O2, at all.
i felt furious but helpless and tried not to have to pay the fee, but had to.
long story short, heh, i need to do something with my shell of a XDA II, either sell, sell parts, fix, find a special ROM flash that might fix it. i don't know, i've tried so hard and have gotten nowhere. so, guys, any insight in what i could/should do?? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
OH OH OH also, on that note, i can't go into bootloader mode or any other mode at all, so i cant re-flash
Threaten to sue. It worked partially when you sent it to them as it would power up - they've made it worse.

TyTN (HTC Hermes 200) IMEI Wizard

Hi All,
I am interested in writing a new IMEI Update Wizard for the HTC Hermes 200 product line. Some of you might remember me from last year, when I undertook a similar project for my HTC Wizard (imate kjam brand).
Well, regretfully last week, my HTC Wizard's USB port "died"...I found out about it as I plugged in the USB cable to charge the battery and, lo and behold, no juice was flowing. A closer look showed a very "flotational" USB port, which upon further inspection, came totally loose. Without any way to re-charge the Wizard, or connect to it from my PC, the device became useless. Luckily I had two spare batteries so I was still connected while waiting for the new Hermes to arrive.
Its now been just a couple days since I came back to Turkey, and a-ha-ha, now its taken them barely 3 days to shut the phone down. Oh joy Last time at least it took a couple months before they did anything about it, and they were kind enough to send a courtesy SMS.
So anyways...without boring you with the backstory any longer. Please feel free to PM me, or reply directly to this thread, if you are interested in contributing to the development of the new IMEI Update Wizard. Like the previous one it will be released as a freeware tool (and without source to protect the anonymity of the people who help build it).
Also, if any fellow Turks browsing this forum have any useful information on how to legally register the phone with the Turkish authorities, I'm up for that information also. It took me a month to build the IMEI Update Wizard last time round...as long as the bureaucracy and response times aren't totally inane (one would hope they have improved over the course of the past year), I might just register the phone for a change. A month is a long time and a lot of sweat and I'm definitely feeling lazier this time
Take care people!
cool, i was just tryin 2 use your old tool 2 on my hermes (M3100) and couldnt do it i gues thats cuz it doesnt work on it . Sorry that i cant help as u can probs tell. Good Luck
Good luck on your work!
I'm still waiting for your new IMEI Wizard for Hermes since your last posting. Hopefully, you're still working on and about to finish sooner or later. Just remember we xda-developers on your back. Cheers!

Xda Orbit keep freezing ...

Hi all ,
I have been using my UK orbit for about a year with no problem (so far). For the the past two weeks though after a random use of 2 to 5 minutes it freezes! It either stays with what is on screen or returns a white screen. From today also the led is not turning on while charging and it wont turn on !!
I tried re flashing, rebooting, putting back the older ROM but the symptoms happen, no matter what ROM or application is used.
A few days before this started if a remember correct I had bled dry the battery (in flight). But everything was ok for some time.
I would be really glad if someone could help me out, I really like ORBIT and wouldn't like to leave it. Keep up the good work for this magnificent site
I had the exact same problem with my P3300. It's a malfunction in the Motherboard. I've called the dutch helpdesk and because a hard reset didn't do much good the PDA was picked up later that day to be sent to Eurotwice, the repair station in Belgium. I got my phone back 2 weeks later, I started it and it froze again! So I immediatly called HTC Netherlands and again, the P3300 was picked up by UPS that afternoon. The second time I wrote a letter to the repair station and sent it with my phone. In another topic on another website I read that some other phone with the same problem had been fixed by replacing the motherboard. I got my phone back today and it works great! It hasn't crashed today, and I have confidence it won't in the future. So my tip to you and anyone who experiences this problem: Call the HTC helpdesk in your country and ask them to sent your PDA to a repair station. It might take a while but they fix it well! By the way, you have 2 years full garantee so it didn't cost me anything! Great service from HTC!

Help me get an antique xda going.

Hello, I will start by saying despite my aged condition i have only recently (in the last week) been seduced to the ownership of any sort of mobile phone. I have one that works fine. But in my investigations a friend offered and gave me a XDA exec (O2) mainly to stop me moaning about the silly way text messages are entered with out a Qwerty keyboard. Unfortunately the phone seem to be dead. Or at least in a coma (as it has some life signs).
The symptoms are, White screen, not much else, odd times my eight year old got the keyboard lights on and thats about it, plain white screen. I have investigated the net for answers and tried. Reset (power, back light and reset), taking out battery and replacing, taking out the battery over night, i investigated 02's web site which i found of very little help, the user manual there etc presupposes some sort of information on the screen ! I seized on the idea that a Rom Upgrade might help but all links to that i have found are dead.
I installed Activcync to my PC and the phone syncs up allowing me to see that there is indeed things on it the windows files etc. Which gave me hope that it isn't totally dead.
So any suggestions? can i do anything with this impressive looking paperweight?
you prob get more results reading and writing in the forum for the device in question
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=280
as more people who own and or know anything about that device would be reading that forum
oops..will do thanks

WTF Can't find a solution anywhere. HELP!!!!!

Ok, i spend alot of time on this forum and its the most informative one on the internet. But, i haven't been able to find a solution to the problem that i've had for a year and 2 phones later. When i receive an incoming call and i push either the green button or the answer soft key, the call gets rejected. My carrier is t-mobile and the 1st dash that i bought started doing it about a month after i got the phone. I kept dealing with the inconvenience, then it started to do it about 3 to 4 times a day. I sent the phone back under warranty and got a refurbed one. Didn't do it for about a month then back to same old same old. Thats when i started to read this forum and discovered there were other versions of windows to install. So, i installed Ricky's rom (which is great) and didn't have the problem for another 2 or 3 months. I thought the problem was fixed until yesterday, it happened again about 4 times with a full signal. I made sure that the "disable reject call registry edit" was turned off when i first in stalled Ricky's rom. I can't figure it out for the life of me what the issue is (carrier, radio, other people's phones lol), I rarely ask for help because everything on this forum is very helpful and easy to find solutions to, except this. Please help.
No offense at all, but is sounds like you are "hard" on phones. From what you describe it sounds like you have been pushing the keys hard, and now they are worn out. Maybe not, but you had a Dash, it worked fine, then it broke within a month, then you gotta new one, then IT broke within a month, the common denominator here is YOU. So, I would try to be more careful with my phone, other than that, just get T-Mo to send you a new one forever. They will, if your phone doesn't work. That's how they are.
I don't think its the button because it works fine when i call somebody. Its only on the incoming calls. Can't figure it out for the life of me. When I got the refurbed phone it did it until i installed Ricky's rom. then it went away for about a month. Could it be my sim? Or maybe even the network? It gets progressively worse over. Check out this web page about the same problem.

This guy had the same problem as me except, I had the problem with both WM5 and WM6. Go figure, might be time for a blackberry.
