OK I have a T-Mobile Dash with Kavana's WM 6.1 and it *was* working just fine. I flashed the ROM about a week ago, installed SmartToolkit, and it's been running fine for a few days.
Today, out of the friggin blue, I now have a bunch of white lines on my display. They start at the very top of the screen, and fill up a little more than 1/3 of the screen. Each line is 1px thick, and it skips every other line.
I did a screen capture, but it didn't pick the problem up (the captured screen looked great), so I photoshopped the screen shot to show you folks EXACTLY what it looks like on my phone.
This morning, it was fine. I made some calls, sent some emails, and it was working fine. Just about 20 minutes ago, I noticed this problem. I have NOT adjusted any settings, added new software, dropped it, submersed it, or modified it in ANY way. I didn't power cycle it, plug it in, or do anything more than let it sit on my desk next to me.
After I noticed the problem, I reset it, and it was there. I took the battery out, let it sit for a few minutes, rebooted it, and it was still there. The lines DID appear in the windows splash screen as well as the HTC boot logo (the boot logo is not pure white, more like a light grey, so if you angle the phone down a little to darken the grey, you can see the white lines)
These lines appear above ALL screens, including running programs, system menus and messages, and even when shutting down. It does NOT, however, seem to affect the phone's performance, so I can live with it for a few more hours until I see some replies here.
Unless this something that is easily remedied, I figure these should be my next few steps (unless a guru tells me otherwise):
- Soft reset (tried, not solved)
- Soft reset including battery removal (tried, not solved)
- Re-flash ROM with Kavana's 6.1
- Re-flash ROM with T-Mobile factory install (link, anyone?)
- Call T-Mobile for device replacement.
That's my battle plan for now... any thoughts, anyone? Thanks in advance for your help.
Attached picture in my first post updated... I used photoshop to make it look *exactly* like the actual screen. That's the best I could do without actually taking a picture of the phone itself. :\
"Bump" <-- Sorry... don't know if that's against the rules here, but at this point I'm ripping the hair out of my head. Can someone please help?
I had the same problem except it was with i screen I purchased on ebay. It looked exactly the same as yours right after i installed it. It seems the screen was defective. I couldn't fix it so I got the vendor to replace my screen and the new one worked like a charm. So you may, unfortunately need to purchase a new screen.
Like hell I will... the damn thing is less than a month old!!!!!!!! T-Mobile will buy a new screen! LOL
Hey, thanks a lot, I really appreciate that!!
for sure. I wouldn't void my warranty either. Unless someone else has another solution, I would just reflash the t-mobile rom and get replaced. That's a bummer man. Hopefully you get it worked out. Glad I could be of assistance.
Thanks again!
I'm on the phone with TMo right now, and I'm starting to get pissed. I originally signed into t-mo in October last year, so it's been what, 6 months? Since then I've done 3 warranty replacements with the Wing, then they did a "Multiple exchange" to the Dash (which I cant figure out, seeing as the Dash is cheaper) and now this, with a dash less than a month old.
I think I'm going to start a new topic about this so everyone can see what kind of run-around t-mobile is giving me.
Can you say that in plain english now.

I left Sprint for T-mobile in October of 2007 (last year), when I bought the Wing. Since then, I have had to replace it 3 times. Then, on the last warranty replacement (about a month ago) I asked for an alternate model. They sent me the Dash.
Better?

Dude, who put sand in your shorts??? How the HELL do you work out this is ME?? The phone was sitting on a DESK when this happened. It's never been dropped, submersed, abused, struck, anything...
Oh wait, that's right... When I asked T-Mobile about this and they said it's a KNOWN PROBLEM, I suppose that's my fault too, right?? I think you should do a little less talking, because you're a pretty ignorant and useless member that just likes to reply to posts with meaningless, unhelpful, rude messages.
You know, I love the way some people act on this board... (Don't get me wrong, most of you are excellent and helpful, and I'm grateful) But some of you just like to sit here and make absolutely no useful contributions... you just like to chastise people and act all superior without giving any real advice or help.
Ever think maybe people come here for help? If you can't ask for it, or you can't give it, then what are you doing here?
Both of you should mellow out. I adore my dash, but I'm on my third one, (my first refurb) and it has ...issues. My last one died in it's sleep in my pocket. It isn't exactly the toughest phone around, nor the most stable. I suspect the wing is even less reliable, as I researched one at length before choosing dash.
Of course, every time one bites the dust, I think, "is it me?" It isnt that unreasonable for someone else to wonder the same.
Peace love, and good luck with TMo. I've gotten a lot more help from them with sugar than I ever got from Sprint or Verizon with any approach. Don't loose your cool.
Even though I agree with your sentiments, I'm finding it a bit hard to mellow out.
However, I disagree with you on one thing: Yes, I think it really is THAT unreasonable for someone to wonder if the problem is me.. One of the Wings TMobile sent me wouldn't even power on, right out of the box... how the HELL is that my fault, and how the HELL is it natural for someone to think that it is?? What, did I open the box the wrong way, sending a static charge through the foam and frying the circuitry of the phone??
Furthermore, to assume that I'm the problem, when I've shown no signs of incompetence or admittances of dropping, submersions, etc. is not only unethical, it's also pretty insulting.
I know perfectly well how to care for electronic devices, and if I did accidentally drop or submerse a phone, I would be embarassed to try to blame T-Mobile for it.
No, I'm sorry, but it is 100% NOT my fault, and without PROOF it IS unfair and unreasonable for someone on this board to assume so. Certainly if T-Mobile thought it was my fault they wouldn't keep sending me phones, now would they?? No, I'm sorry, but I think people here that are that ignorant are simply posting because they have nothing better to post... and perhaps they just get off on ripping into other people. Perhaps they had their lunch stepped on a few times too many in high school. Maybe they weren't hugged enough. I don't know. All I know is they have no right to make assumptions about me. I didn't do that to them, so they should show me the same respect.
ow my head
Hey guys, so I've had the tilt 2 for about 2 weeks now and for the past couple of days I've had some problems with it. My phone sometimes REALLY laggy, this tends to happen MOSTLY when I'm trying to access my messages. The screen freezes for like a minutes and then lags a lot. I eventually have to hold down the power key and turn off the phone which takes a while, I try to stray away from taking the battery out. Also it seems as if sometimes the phone is acting really slow, trust me though I am very pleased with this phone, however these few issues have been bothering me.
Is their a reason why my phone lags and freezes every once in a while and is there a way to stop this?
Is their anyway to speed up my phone? If so how?
Also, I called AT&T and had my old LG Incite replaced with the Tilt 2, they shipped me the Tilt 2 and I shipped them back my LG Incite, they did this all for no cost what so ever on my part, shipping was free and I got my phone the next day I ordered it (First class mail I presume). Now the question is am I still eligible for the 30-day warranty? I'm not sure if that's exactly whats its called but I know when you buy a phone from a store you have up to 30 days to replace it for another new phone (same exact phone) if you had any problems with it. Can I get my Tilt 2 replaced for a new Tilt 2?
Howdy
Well I think you are having the same issues a lot of us have had, and the thing is most actually flash a non-stock ROM.
HTC has released some patches for the laggy SMS issue you can find that here
Also I have heard to never ever pull the battery there is an actual reset button located above the stylus on the side of the phone, but you must remove the cover!
As for the thirty day warranty you may very well still be eligible I actually went through 3 Fuze's before I received a Tilt 2 (albeit it was unreleased... at the time I received 2 Fuze's), but the only way to be sure is to contact AT&T. I'd say your best bet would to be to attempt and obtain another Tilt 2 just to rule out faulty hardware, and then run the patches and see if that is better!
Oh and try jumping over to the ROM forum and read up on Flashing a custom ROM, but PLEASE beware if you do this you will have to revert the device to factory ROM, SPL, and Radio prior to sending it to AT&T! Essentially it "voids" the warranty, but you can easily return the device to stock with a little know how!
Good luck to you and have a Merry Christmas!
Edit: Sorry I kinda missed "is there anyway to speed it up" and yeah there are a lot of ways: Try looking for Advanced Config, Clean RAM (to keep your memory freed up), and there is a thread somewhere that lists bloatware that can be removed. However, the best and quickest way would to be to look into a Custom ROM, in fact there is a "bloat free" version of the AT&T ROM available on this forum!
I have been using the touch pro 2 (tmobile) for 2 months, ive never dropped my phone and i have no damage to it, for some reason no one can hear me on my phone calls, its lie the microphone is going bad.
Has this happened to anyone else?
i know im a newbe before you say it, just wanted to know if there is a fix or something.
I had hte same issue last week wiht my Tilt 2
I had the same problem last week with my ATT Tilt 2. I had installed the 2 HTC updates and a call recorder (resco) program. Not sure if related, but shortly thereafter no one could hear me. I had to reboot the phone for my mic to work for the next call or two. then after a day or two my phone froze completely on a reboot. Pulled the battery and still frozen. Had to do a hard reset and reinstall and retweak ( a real pain in the ...). I did not reinstall the 2 HTC official updates or the call recording software. So far over the last 2 to 3 days the phone seems to work fine. Mine is about 2 months old. If it happens again I will be asking for a replacement from ATT. Sorry not a solution but I feel your pain.

Yes.. the phone did this with a 100% stock setup, no additional software installed. Though, my problem might be a little different: people could hear me for the first 10 seconds of the call, and then they couldn't. I could hear them plainly saying "are you there.. hello?" and I'd be on the other end yelling "yes, I can hear you" with no answer.. if they waited another 10-15 seconds without hanging up, they could hear me again. I tried every radio available and this problem occurred whether I had full signal or not. My Kaiser performed perfectly in the same areas.. so AT&T and I concluded it was defective phone and they overnighted me one that has worked perfectly.

wow that is very lame
Hello all.
I just got my HTC Desire yesterday, sweet phone I must say. I have a big problem though which has me on the very edge of sending it back.
The problem is that it reboots itself quite often, for example if I'm making a call or answering. It also does this when I'm on youtube or practically doing anything that demands a lot of memory. The only thing I've had no problems with is text messaging, which works fine. Anyways, since it's a phone I would love to be able to making calls with it (the longest call was about 4 minutes before the phone rebooted itself)..
Since I'm not sure whether this is a hard- or software problem I'm not sure whether to send it back. I have reinstalled it three times, two from Android and once by doing the whole press volume button down procedure. My question is, and it's urgent, Is there anything else I can do to "fix" it before I send it back? Or is this simply a hardware problem?
I'd really not want to send it if I don't have to since the guy I spoke to said that they have no clue as when they will get more in. They are sold out atm.
Please help!
Regards
the_swede
Well, it definitely shouldn't be doing that, so I think you should call your operator and arrange a replacement to be sent chop chop.
Absolutely, never had that happen to me
Dude, it needs to go back. My phone hasn't rebooted once since getting it last weekend.
I had the same problem arranged T-Mobile to replace it. Don't keep it pal get exchanged immediately.
you could try installing the generic htc rom using goldcard
I wouldn't even bother with that.
Hard reset and if it still does it, get it sent back.
I have not had any resets yet either,
You'll regret it afterwards, if you don't send back because simply it is a faulty model, reset won't make a difference. I have bought four of these and only one turned out this problem and had it swapped next day.
If the supplier is out of stock then just wait for stock to arrive and exchange it when it does.
Okay, thank you guys. I'll send it back.
Thing is that I'll have to wait until the next shipment to the store I ordered it from, and I've already been waiting since February for the bugger
Anyway, thanks again.
I found my SD card was not inseted properly and that seemed to lead to unpredictable behaviour from the Desire.
My 10 doesnt like to receive calls, it seems the problem hasnt been fixed using all the various software procedures (flash, RUU,...). Strange because I get calls sometimes, other times they simply get sent to voicemail. Also checked with carrier, no problems.
Authorized device exchange nearly 2 months ago, and HTC still has not said any word of swapping my device. The service is terrible, they keep telling me they have no further information. HTC placed a hold on my card the same day I authorized it. Long story short, I am not getting any updates, and Im left with a works 50% of the time device, it hasnt been a year even...
Anyone else having a hard time with HTC?
On principle I should never buy HTC again... too bad, i love this phone
I had a lot of trouble with an exchange several months back. I'm not going to go into detail because it was too painful. There's another thread somewhere around in these sections about this subject.
