Hi All,
I have been reading through as always trying to give the kiss of life to the recently (1month) upgraded MDA Compact III. I have upgraded it from WM5 to Touch Flu WM6. It has been working great till last night it just died on me and now I can’t even turn it on... It comes on if i leave the battery out for a 10mins and then put it back in, but it will only go far as the boot screen and as soon as it comes to the password prompt it dies
SO I can’t get in to the bootloader...
Any help will be much appreciated
Thanks all
Kind regards,
DS

Just to clarify, if you do the sequence to put it in bootloader mode, it still wont come on? What if you have it connected to the computer, still no power?
I had that same problem
Well not to be the messenger of doom but it may eventually die for good, i dunno what causes this but the same thing happened to my xda orbit recently. I had it for about 7 months the 3 weeks ago i had that problem to fix it i would leave a battery out for about an hour, also it seems the more programs u have it seems the more crashes it has, not saying hard reseting fixes it just when i installed the touch 3.01 rom and installed as few programs as possible it didn't crash for a week but, last Thursdays picked it up turned it on started listening to music then it just crashed and wouldn't even turn on at all when i plug in the charger the light didn't turn on or anything taking it to the o2 shop tomorrow.

I would think if u were to claim u may still be able to claim from the warranty if flashing it doesn't void it i sure hope not but i also insured mine so if the warranty is void i still have a life line.
i also have the same problem... i have upgraded to wm 6, first day was OK. i put my arte in my back pocket... when i took it out, it was shut down.... first i thought that it was because i sat on it... but it didnt open after that... when i plug charger it doesnt charge... however i managed to charge the battery fully... if i take the battery for a period of time.. it seems to work but crashes again, slowly going in black screen with a green vertical line in the center...
what should i do? please help me... unfortunately there's no htc shop here in turkey...

I am affraid that you lose the warranty because u flashed (updated) your orginal ROM.
Mayby damaged is only storage of ROM - memory chip
i didn't lose my warranty on mine maybe because they couldn't turn the phone on to check it out properly, i just got it back yesterday with the official o2 rom and no questions asked. b4 u take it back if u can flash the official T-Mobile rom then their shouldn't be any problem i would think.
I have same problem can someone point me in the right direction for the rom please same phone
Hi,
For two days I have had a serious problem with my HTC P3300 Artemis:
There are actually 3 different things that happen:
1. The phone freezes while working. No idea what causes it. Happened at different occasions.
2. The phone doesn't wake up when I hit the wake-up-button.
3. Often while rebooting the screens whites out or whites out and gets green or purple vertical lines.
In each case only removing the battery helps.
I use Mossisrom as my OS.
Can anybody tell me how to fix the problem? Is it a hardware or software problem? Please help me!!!

I get the problem about waking up too. Sometimes it won't for a while. I leave it a couple of seconds and then try again which usually works.
Have you checked how much free internal memory you have. WM seems to still be very sensitive to low memory.
Hi,
I am rather sure that it's not a memory issue. The system freezes completely, not just for some seconds. I can't call the phone either. I think its either a SW or a HW problem and hoped, someone could tell me what to do.

I can only suggest resetting the ROM back to a standard one and seeing if you still get the problems. If you do, it is probably a hardware problem and you should get the phone replaced.
I had the exact same problem with my P3300. It's a malfunction in the Motherboard. I've called the dutch helpdesk and because a hard reset didn't do much good the PDA was picked up later that day to be sent to Eurotwice, the repair station in Belgium. I got my phone back 2 weeks later, I started it and it froze again! So I immediatly called HTC Netherlands and again, the P3300 was picked up by UPS that afternoon. The second time I wrote a letter to the repair station and sent it with my phone. In another topic on another website I read that some other phone with the same problem had been fixed by replacing the motherboard. I got my phone back today and it works great! It hasn't crashed today, and I have confidence it won't in the future. So my tip to you and anyone who experiences this problem: Call the HTC helpdesk in your country and ask them to sent your PDA to a repair station. It might take a while but they fix it well! By the way, you have 2 years full garantee so it didn't cost me anything! Great service from HTC!
Wow, you had a great experience from HTC . I didn't. I had the exact same problem as posted. HTC claimed I broke the phone myself and wanted to charge me. They claimed something broke behind the screen and that I must've pressed it too hard, despite the screen still being intact. After three months of phone calls to the UK and a lot of empty promises (promised to get a manager to call me back, never got them. promised to discuss with repair dept and call me back, never got them) I finally got my phone back , fixed. No explanation as to why they changed their mind. I had asked them to take a picture for me of what was broken and to how they came to the conclusion that I was the one who broke it. Maybe they were too lazy to do it.
As the title says really. Has anyone from the UK had any experience of HTC warranty repairs?
My Desire is booked for collection tomorrow for a few hardware faults to be fixed. Do they usually take the full 15 days that they quote?
I'm currently back to using my old faithful Nokia 6310i. What a great phone that is. It's years old and still works flawlessly. Although I'm not sure I'd go back to it full-time
For me, they've been very good and very quick. Had my Nexus One back in 7 days and my Desire in 8.
Had mine back in 5 working days, 7 in total. The LED flash had stopped working (before the days we could use it as a flashlight).

One of my favourite phones of all time. Actually, I still use an old 3330, 8850, 8910i and Ericsson T28 too. All working and looking in tip top shape.
-----------------------------------
- HTC Desire via XDA App -
They took 25 days with my phone, and I was told they could take up to 28 days with it. Mine wouldn't power on, so I took it to CPW who had it 2 days before they sent it to HTC.
I had a nightmare experience! Involved two Desires, and took 3 months to resolve. Still not 100% sure it's ok.
Got my Desire in March, first batch of Desires. Was fine until end of June when started getting random restart, related to a faulty motherboard. I sent it in via T-Mobile who sent it to a repair centre the next day (signified by online tracking update). On day 8 of no further update I email in to ask what is going on, and they do stuff and send it back on day 10. All they did was a software update and changed a sticker, and problem still existed.
I complained and moaned to T-Mobile, who after a while gave in and gave me another Desire. This one had a worse problem. Screen kept on cutting out even though the rest of the phone was working. Took it on holiday with me and proved to be totally useless because of the issue. Come back and send it in directly to HTC this time hoping to get better service, but it seems like it all goes back to the same repair centre in Milton Keynes.
They send it back 3 weeks later after fixing the receiver instead of the screen. There was nothing wrong with the receiver! I complain big time and ...
Long story short, send it back again gets fixed after the engineer phones me up to get a description of the problem. Also one of the managers phoned me up to give me updates on the phones progress. She actually called me up yesterday to see if the phone was still ok. So far so good. I guess I was unlucky, but it was a nightmare experience, as I love the phone so much (still).
Customer service was good as they always got back to me immediately, but repair centre was rubbish. I feel they owe me compensation for such a crap experience, but so far nothing.

Well so far we have a 50/50 chance of getting decent service then? lol.
I'm going to hate having to hand mine to the courrier tomorrow, but hope that I get a sensible technician who does his job and gets it back to me ASAP. I'm already lost without it as I have it packed up. Can't check twitter/facebook, or emails without having to go to my laptop.
I never realised how much I depended on it.
touch HD returned May, June,Sept and Oct. Each time it was a 'manufacturer repair' and took the full 28 days! Was exchanged twice (so they say) but still developed the same screen problem everytime
Finally got an exchange authorised for a desire , hope its a bit more reliable than the touch

You were patient. lol
This is my second Desire going for repair, first one went faulty 3 days after purchase so I got a full exchange at the shop. Over all I think the Desire is a decent bit of kit. Hopefully yours will be fine or I'd imagine you will go to an iPhone
Sent mine off due to the overheating/reboot loop when using 3G.
Phone was collected by UPS, was away for about 16 days and returned by UPS. The phone had the mainboard changed I presume, as the IMEI was different, chassis and screen/glass layer remained the same along with my screen protector. I got the phone back about a week ago.
Sent mine with battery problems. They took it waited 5 days and phone suppose to be sent but tang and they said they found a fault with receiver and antenna. Another 3 days. Now I have a problem with 3g hanging up I'll wait for desire hd and than send it for repair maybe I'll get a nice replacement if I moan at the same fault several times....

Last thing I sent to HTC was an O2-variant of the Artemis, to HTC UK. It failed out of warranty (I'd bought it on eBay as well) and I rang O2 and got nowhere. I rang HTC and they explained that in theory it should be sent to O2 for service, as it was a rebodied HTC 8300 built especially for O2, but in practice if I sent it in they'd sort it out for me. They took about a week to replace the trackball and mainboard and post it back, and they charged me a very reasonably 60UKP. I was very happy with service.
I don't know if this is still how they operate now they're a bigger, direct-to-consumer company though.
Well, to be brief..
1). First repair for the desire rebooting all the time took nearly 28 days.
2). Second repair has gone just over a week.. still pending, but I.m sure the duration will end up being roughly 28 days.
Personally, I think HTC's repair service is utter b%$$*$£s!
A month is too long for a company of their caliber.
where and how do you send your faulty mobile? because i bought mine from online supplier on tmobile, but it is not locked. so what is the sending process? how do you have your mobiles picked up by courier?
thank you
My desire was turning off when light pressure applied to the back of the phone. I sent it back 3 times after them failing to repair it each time, and finally on the 3rd time they replaced it...
Each time I waited 7-10 days for it to be returned.
Question for those with experience of HTC repair service: do HTC send back your original box? The ticket sheet I got last week recommended that you send your item in the manufacturer's packaging, but I realised after I sent it that maybe they won't send back my box (I'm talking about the white Desire box from the shop). Also, I wasn't happy with sending my receipt so sent a photocopy of it, is this okay? Do HTC return your original receipt if you send it?
Got mine back yesterday after reporting the rebooting issue.
1) They have replaced the motherboard, although the notes don't say what they have done. I know this because the Micro USB connector is cbrand new clean looking and not full of pocket-fluff.
2) Turnaround was about 10 days. I wasn't counting exactly.
3) I did not send it in original packaging, I wrapped it up in wood floor underlay and sent it in a jiffy bag which was then folded over in half. I got it back in a box exactly like the original Desire Box that I bought it in.
4) I had to send the original receipt, as I couldn't be arsed to find a photocopier. I did not get this back.
5) So far so good, device is no longer rebooting but time will tell I suppose.
Overall very happy with HTC's repair service. I've been usign HTC phones for about 8 years now and never had any issues with getting them repaired.

I didn't send a receipt or use my original box. As Budadank says, the phone came back in a similar box to the original retail one but is clearly a repair return type box, rather than a retail one, pic attached.
Now thats one reason why the iPhone wins. Apples customer service is one of the best. If your phone gets broken you will be a few mins in store and if they can't fix it they replace it there. Anywasy back to the subject. I need to send my desire for repair as it has been rebooting so I hope my customer service is ok.
my Desire got wet in my pocket whilst out walking..It was still turned and and working in safe mode..when i turned it off and dried out the phone overnight etc etc it would not work when i switched it back on,All i got was a white boot screen but none of the buttons would work allowing me to scroll through any of the options to boot etc etc.
i purchaed the phone for £300 off ebay, sim free and it was working perfectly up until this point.
I have sent the phone back to HTC and they have given me a bill of repair totalling £236.00. To be honest i think this is a complete ripp off.I could buy another seconhand phone for that much money, but as they know i am in a pickle and have no choice but to accept the price pay it and hope that my phone is ok when i get it back.
I can totally honestly say.." I wish i had paid full whack and bought an Iphone from apple". i am not impressed at all.
I did pay the invoice online 6 days ago and I have still not received my phone back from repair centre or had any updates or correspondence with HTC...very very poor show in my opinion. and a very expensive secondhand phone so far !!
Sent my Desire off on Monday 8th Nov as it was freeezing and crashing and rebooting during sat nav using google and copilot. I am getting it back this monday 1th Nov. (Tomorrow) I have been tracking it via UPS. I noticed on the dispatch note they emailed me that the IMEI number had changed so I rang them and asked why (thought I might be getting a refurb back). They have replaced the Mobo. So like a new phone really I guess.
I bought the phone on Ebay. Unlocked and rooted so I guess I may have to unlock and root it again and then pick my fav custom rom.
i've had a desire (normal version) since the day it was released. but when the HD came out, i just had to have it.
in the beginning everything was just fine with my HD.
but since a little while, the simcard is acting weird.
yesterday afternoon i put the simcard in (had to use a different phone for a day), and everything worked fine. no problems at all.
this morning i woke up, and i looked at the screen of my HD.
no reception, and a little warning telling me to set the time and date.
(it has done this before, it started about a week after i got it).
i try calling, but the phone says "no simcard".
i remove the backcover, and there was my simcard. still in perfect position.
i even tried a little piece of paper to really squeeze the card in.
i took out the simcard, cleaned it (just in case), put it back in and turned off the phone.
a minute later, i turned on the phone again and everything was fine again.
but it's just a matter of time before the phone will say that there is no simcard.
it does this almost every other day, and it's really really annoying.
(it does this to with other simcards)
if i put my simcard in another phone, i don't have any problems, only the HD does this.
can somebody please help, because it's really annoying if i have to restart the phone every other day because it won't recognize the simcard anymore.
If a hard reset (back to factory defaults) doesn't fix this then I'm afraid it sounds like hardware fault and you'd need to get the phone replaced.
Sent using witchcraft via XDA Developers Premium App.
i can't get it replaced (i've been told).
a few weeks ago the phone fell and the screen broke. the screen has been replaced but i've been told that i don't have any warranty on it because of the repair.
the thing i don't understand is, why work perfectly for a whole day (sometimes even more) and without warning all of the sudden the simcard isn't recognized anymore.
with hardware faults the fault should be there all the time, not just after a certain amount of time.
Hardware fault can still be intermittent just like a mechanical fault.
How did the hard reset go?
Sent using witchcraft via XDA Developers Premium App.
i used this guide for the hard reset: http://www.hard-reset.com/htc-desire-hd-hard-reset.html
that was about a month or two ago.
the phone still acts as if there is no simcard sometimes.
the hard reset didn't do anything. (except for losing some data...).
Then if it does this with every SIM card you tried and the SIM cards all work fine in other phones (ruling out SIM card issue) I don't know what else it could be other than hardware.
Software issue can discounted as you have done a reset.
How long getting it back from screen replacement? If not long I'd blame that and insist they repair it.
Sent using witchcraft via XDA Developers Premium App.
i had to sent it twice actually.
the first time they had it for about 2 weeks because they had to wait for parts.
then i got it home, but the glue for the screen didn't stick well enough (1 corner got loose) so i called them and they fixed it for free.
this time they had the phone for about 2 weeks again.
but how the hell am i gonna explain why the simcard holder was affected by the replacement of the screen?
You don't.
The phone has to be pulled apart to change screens and anything could have happened.
If it was only a week ago you got phone back or less I'd just contact them and say "ever since I got phone back this has happened" and ***** till they agree.
Sent using witchcraft via XDA Developers Premium App.
made the call, the're gonna look into it.
so i'll have to sent my phone again, and wait for the're findings.
they first check if it has to do with previous repairs, if not it's not covered by the warranty.

yeah... i found that one out the hard way.....
well, i just got my phone back. the statement they included says "no error found".
those goddamn f%$#^&% probably didn't even test it out.
it doesn't act up immediatly, it usually happens after a day or so.
maybe they couldn't find any hardware problems, but i know it's still acting up.
i'll just wait till tomorrow to see when the phone stops working.
Just call them back and point out it is intermittent and often takes 24-48 hours after inserting a SIM for it to fail again. Just keep at them.
yeah i will.... on monday.
if i call now, they'll say "send it to us, and we'll have a look".
they don't work in the weekend, so i might as well wait till monday and have a few days with me precious phone.
i haven't seen it in such a long time, i'm starting to miss it...my precious... ;-)
but on the serious side, i really wander what the problem could be. i just don't understand why it suddenly stops recognizing my simcard.
i'm not able to fix it, but i'm still curious.
Hello,
I have a HTC Desire S-OFF for a week. I don't think that AlphaRev has something to do with it because I rebooted it at least 6 times since the operation.
The problem began yesterday when it fell from about 2 Ft and the battery went out of the phone. For the first 10 minutes, my screen was looking like a starchart. After that, I removed the battery and now when I try to boot it up, the screen remains black. I can confirm that my phone has booted up because the below buttons are lighten up (when I press on power button) and there is the green LED telling probably that I've got emails. There isn't any scratches or crack on the screen.
I don't know that to do. From where could the problem come?
Thanks in advance.
Vascer
Hello. It's probably a problem from the motherboard, maybe a short circuit or something. If you don't have any esthetic problems maybe you could try and get it to the guarantee and get it repaired for free.
I would be less probably to be a soft problem, since Bricked Screen only comes after flashing some .zip files incompatible.
truy to put your phone in fastboot power+back wait 30 second and then instal the ruu and your phone is back to normal
@UsManyDead. There are just minor scratches on the aluminium chassis but nothing that let me think that I've broken the screen. I'll send it back according to warrenty.
@en_mih. Thanks for you answer. Now they aren't supposed to see that i've rooted and S-OFF my phone?
Thanks for your answers.
nop your waranty is available good luck , wait for the message when you breng your phone home
Good, I'm going to send it to the support by mail. I will get it in ten days according to the technical support I've called this morning. I will call tomorrow because they forgot to give me the adress. Or I will rather ask one of their technicians to pick it up at my home, it is easier.
I will reply again when I will get it back.
Many Thanks.
good luck man
I finally got it back today, their tracking website told it was ready for a bit more than 2 weeks. I had to call the support 3 or 4 times before getting my telephone back (today).
The telephone is working again, they updated and replaced a component. Best news: the warranty worked so many thanks to both of you.
