WM5 Upgrade without ActiveSync 4.0?

Is this possible because I am not going to install service pack 2 for Microsoft Windows XP, which is required to install ActiveSync 4.0, so can you install Windows Mobile 2005 on a blueangel w/ activesync 3.8 or whatever? :-\ anyone expierement with this yet?

I tried it and it won't work
WM5.0 contains a new ActiveSync version which requires AS 4.x installed on the connected computer.
Anyway, SP2 is important. Small green men will come and eat your PC if you don't install it :lol: hehe

ROM Upgrading under Windows Vista - is it possible?

Want to repeat my post here:
Did anybody have successfull tries to update ROM from Vista? I can't do it with AKU3.2 beta8 by standart way, can't do it with MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe (got 'ERROR 150 ROM UPGRADE UTILITY ERROR'), can't do it with mtty (can't choose USB, only COM). Is it avaliable another way to do ROM upgrade?

If you have RC1 there is a problem with the Windows Mobile Device Centre (so im told!) and so no sync at all apart from folder and files. If you have the first Beta release it works on sync - duno about upgrade yet though.
I'm awaiting the fix....

you can enable the WMDC in RC1...there is a thread on here:

that shows you how to enable it....mines working and sycing with Outlook 2007
ive not tried any sort of ROM action though...not willing to brick my wizard...

Damn - mine wont sync for love nor money!
I've done a hard reset - even reflashed the thing. Added the registry entry - forced WMDC.msi to install and still nothing - MWDC just crashed with a hideous error whenever i run it manually from control panel too!

I am on RC1.... build 5600

strange, thats exactly the same as me.
all i did was ad the WHOS key, reboot, download, reboot....sync!

When i run WMDC i get:

Nope he trying to install a rom on the universal using the RC1 vista build on his pc.

Hi all,
I'm loving the WM5.0 ROMs, however I cannot seem to get GoodLink to install (it claims my version of WM is unsupported). I've noticed for some other platforms, people have managed to change their WM version number to effectively combat this (fooling GoodLink to install).
Any idea how I can change the WM version number to fool GoodLink to install?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know what this software is, and how to configure it but here is working WM5 cab of it, it installs and the some kind of setup wizard comes up, and then it asks for email and for pin

Thanks for your help. However, the issue with GoodLink is that it does a check after you enter your PIN on the WM version. At this point, it sees my BA is 5.1 (not 5.0) and fails the install.
I've seen other ROMs change the version number to avoid this problem and didn't know if it's something that's easy to do (either via a hex editor or a registry fix).

it is compatible with older wm5 roms without the 5.1 core, i am not sure where is the correct address to change for blueangel
and i think that it is time for them to update their app, there are no WM 5.0 devices anymore on the market

Thanks xplode, I'll try finding, downloading & installing a 5.0 ROM tonight then and see if it all works.

Just a followup to the above, I cannot seem to find any older images for download, the earliest I can find is "xplode_AKU3.3_Beta1_R1.rar" which still has a 5.1 core.
Any ideas where I can get an older WM5.0 image from? I'd go back to 2003, but that's not supported either (between a rock and a hard place with GoodLink!)

.NET framework issue

i m using i-mate pdal 5.0 mobile since 6 months but when sometimes i install a new software it does not work.Can u help me out?
And even i want to upgarde it to 6.5, is it possible to do so and how?

if the new software require a newer version of .net compact framework
just head on to ms and download and install the newer version on your pda

.net-problem - just upgrade from MS-side
my problem with that is as followes:
whenever i try to upgrade my 3600 says "this version is still at the ROM of your device"
now i am speechless - any idea which could help me???

Getting lots of Shell32.exe errors with Tmo USA Stock 6.5 update

I'm getting a ton of Shell32.exe errors with my Tmo-USA TP2. The history is as follows:
US Tmo branded TP2
ROM: 1.91.531.4 (74508) WWE
ROM date: 12/15/09
Radio: 4.49.25.57
HTC Sense:Manila_TMO_US_2_1_19213017_1
WM 6.5 Pro Build 21881.5.0.84
I upgraded from 6.1 to the stock "leaked" 6.5 ROM. So far no hard SPL just the factory update. Since it was new I spent a week installing and uninstalling and playing with all the software I could find to figure out how I want it configed and what I want installed. I then re-installed the Tmo ROM to get my handset clean and did the following:
-Setup Activesync with Gmail for email and contacts sync.
-Modify the .xml file to show my favorites in the Manilla Internet tab.
-Install Beejive
-Install Viigo
-Install Skype
-Install Experiment 13
-Install DivX Player
-Install NetFlix Mobile
-Install CleanRAM
-Install PHM RegEdit
-XDA Tom Codon WiFi internet sharing
So far that's it. No big reg edits or really anything customized. I almost always get the Shell32.exe error when I go into the Today config and make any changes. I tried running Titanium instead of Sense and that didn't help any. It seems pretty random and not really repeatable for me. I'm still in my two week window I can return it so I would rather not hardSPL yet. I'm curious to hear any suggestions on what you guys would do. Hard Reset? Re-install the 6.5 Rom? Drop back to stock 6.1? Any programs you see that you think would cause problems?
