Gmail POP vs Pocket Outlook (outgoing) HELP! - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I have an SX66, and I have no idea why I can't send any outgoing e-mails through gmail's SMTP. I've tried a multitude of different settings (there aren't that many permutations), and none have given me much luck.
Will conduct further testing. In the meantime, if anyone's got any insight, or have it verified and working, please let me know.
I've heard that there's a registry tweak that may have turned off SSL for connections outgoing, which may be why I'm unable to send (without SSL it wouldn't work). I bought the phone used, so I don't know (the rom and radio's like way upgraded, though, 1.4 or something).

Works perfectly via Wifi/GPRS on my O2 XDA iis as per

Worked ok with me too...send and received

Problem with push mail on orange.....

Hi all,
We've tested direct-push to our exchange servers from a number or JasJars.
When we use Vodafone UK or T-Mobile UK, all is well, the device adjusts the ping frequence and ends up at around 30 minutes for both providers and all is well....
However with Orange, it stays at 480 seconds (the lowest default), after the timeout the device always logs PING FAILED.
We've noticed that Orange uses 3 different gateways on their GPRS network, when a connection is idle for approx 2 minutes it changes randomly to another gateway, when the Exchange box tries to send the packet back using the http(s)-keep alive the connection between the gateway and the device is lost, hence, the keep alive won't be returned, effectively rendering push-mail useless on orange.
They have confirmed to us that they do this to load balance their gateways and seem to have no plan to rectify this.
It's ironic since they advertise the new C600 rom on their homepage stating: "Get push mail now!" when it will only work for the first 2 minutes of each ping cycle.
Anyone else noticed this problem?
Cheers,
Tobey
I don't know if this is why it's not working for you but I just rang Orange to inquire where the push e-mail settings were and was told that it is currently on trial and only those users that received an MMS message inviting them to the trial can actually use it.
I only received a SPV M5000 on Wednesday but ended talking to Orange Yesterday. Apparently they are having teething problems with the push email and it will be about another week before the push mail service is offered.
Even so I have now got push mail working with the standard settings by selecting Orange GPRS Internet as my connection instead of leaving it on Auto pick and using the 'Always on GPRS' registry hack.
I had already tweaked ISA & Exchange timeouts but push mail didn't start working until after applying the registry hack which I found from here.
They say talking to yourself is a sign of insanity, how about emailing yourself through out the day ???

Help Newb with Softbank SMS.

Hi all,
I have read through some threads and performed a few searches. Everything in regards to this seems to hover around MMS. I dont really care for that but do need to SMS. As I am a phone newb could someone tell me with the softbank setup would I still use MMSLite for doing SMS after slapping on one of the new WM6 ROMS?
Or, can I just dump a station setting somewhere in WM6 for Softbank that will allow me to do SMS.
Thanks,
I to use an X01HT on Softbank and have tried almost all of the WM6 ROMs and SMS works normally. You don't need to do anything special or load anything extra it just works.
Correct, SMS just works. Just pop in your SIM and that's all you need. MMS is a different story.
Thanks guys,
I worked it out now. I was not aware that Softbank could only send SMS to other vodafone/softbank users. It seems we cant send to anyone else on docomo etc. Well, at least I get an error when I try to send an SMS to anyone else on another network. How stupid is that.
Does phone to phone email work? What I mean is I used to be with vodafone and had one of their email addies for my mobile, kind of like push email I suppose. Is Softbank doing the same thing and does it work after flashing or are we stuck with just SMSing to mobile numbers on our network.
Thanks again,
Japanese telco companies are not really friendly, and tend to jealously hold onto the features/etc on their networks, so they will not design their systems to allow cross carrier SMS... it would save you too much money.
Sending SMS's to carriers abroad from Sotbank phones work, but be prepared to spend about 100 yen per message (outgoing or incoming).
Also, the "normal" mail that you were sending was MMS, so you would need to get a hold of MMSlite or the setting for Softbank MMS to get it up and running. I personally use my Gmail and a push-mail account from Mail2Web instead... it cost me $2 a month for the pushmail, but it allows you to sync you calendar, contacts, task as well (works as a backup) so it is worth it to be able to change phones, phone numbers, carrier, etc without changing my e-mail or losing my data! Also, I can check any big message/attachments on Gmail. Works out pretty well.

SOLUTION: How to disable the Xpress Mail Warning about Roaming

To those of you who are experiencing the annoying warning message about Roaming Charges when manually trying to retrieve Xpress Mail, here is the solution:
Add this to your registry:
Code:
Key: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\ShowRoamWarning
Value: DWORD:0
I don't know if you need to, but I powered down, waited 10 seconds, and powered back up after making the change. Worked flawlessly!
I got this little tidbit from the nice folks at SEVEN, who produce Cingular's Xpress Mail application.
Now, I don't know two things about this, so use it at your own discretion...
1) This might (and probably DOES) blanketly turn off all warnings about roaming ... even if you REALLY ARE ROAMING. So if your plan doesn't include free roaming, you might not wish to make the change
2) It might also blanketly turn off the warning message for any other email type, not just Xpress Mail. I do not get the warning for my other accounts, so I am not sure of the behavior in regard to this.Anyway, another minor annoyance out of the way for me. Hope I've made some other people here smile today as well.
-pvs
that worked like a champ! to think such a simple solution evaded us all so long thanks again!
Worked great... Thank you for getting the fix... No more warnings
I imagine this is the same flag to use for pop mail in general (I'm using outlook to retrieve mail).
One question: Does anyone know if this affects just the alert and still limits the email retrieval when it thinks you're roaming?
---
Update: The answer to my question is that the phone still things I'm roaming and doesn't automatically download emails, but at least when I do manually retrieve emails, I don't get prompted to proceed while roaming.

No Mms On Orange Spv M5000?

I have flashed my SPV M5000 with the latest Orange ROM, version 1.30.90.WWE on WM5. Don't know if it was missing before but now that I wanted to use MMS, I find that the option is missing in the accounts options. I do have an option to configure MMS and I can set a modem for Orange MMS, but if I try to switch from TEXT or OUTLOOK to MMS, the MMS option is just not there. Suspecting a registry problem I looked through the registry but cannot see anything obvious, although I am no expert on the M5000 registry. Can anyone please help me or give me the correct registry settings I should be looking for? Everything else works fine including email and Wi-Fi, although the finding the locations for the settings is not very friendly. Orange so fare have been useless - they confirm all my GPRS & MMS settings are correct amd also sent a SIM update to make sure they were. I am now waiting for Orange technical to come back to me, but I think you guys probably know more. Soft and hard resets do not make the MMS option appear. Richard B.
No MMS on Orange SPV M5000 resolved.
O.K. - after a lot of discussion with non-technical types belonging to Orange who tried to talk about technical issues in a three way conversation between I suspect India, Darlington and N.Wales and eventually being allowed to talk directly to their real engineers, I was told that this issue had been seen several times and that they did not really know why it happened as it happened intermitently. Having given up on Orange's extremely poor customer service, I gave the M5000 one last chance and burned the ROM for the 4th time. This time instead of using my main PC, I used my laptop and ensured that the USB cable was direct, also stopping anti-virus and all background programs except for the O.S. BINGO! The MMS appeared after hard reset. Why did I bother ringing Orange in the first place?

[Q] Unable To Send Email, Hotmail - HTC Desire

I have been using my hotmail.co.uk email address on my handset for a number of months now without problems. Went to work yesterday (as I normally do lol) and when I went to send a email through the bulit in "Mail" app upon my return home. I get the message "Unable To Send" notification at the top of the screen.
Nothing has changed, so don't really understand why this has only just happened????. When I then go to have a look at the pop3/smtp settings. It says its ok for the incoming but when I try and go on "next" in the outgoing settings. I get the circle dots hang i.e. where it should be loading and then says "Authenticition failed, for username and or password"?. Re-entered the username and password which is correct, but still comes up with the same message. Also tried changing the port from 587 (I think from memory?) to 25 and 26, but still no luck!.
Anybody know what else I can do?. Just not sure why this has just happened when I have never had a problem before and no settings have changed from the handset :S
I'm having this problem too today - seems it may be a hotmail issue rather than one with the phone
Yeah, I think it was on the Hotmail side as my emails seems to be working now. Not sure what happened though tbh :S. It's funny, cuss its a question I was sure to expect from a customer ringing me at O2 lol (I work for O2 Customer Services). I tend to always get handset related issues rather than network ones LMFAO .
