Hi all,
I have read through some threads and performed a few searches. Everything in regards to this seems to hover around MMS. I dont really care for that but do need to SMS. As I am a phone newb could someone tell me with the softbank setup would I still use MMSLite for doing SMS after slapping on one of the new WM6 ROMS?
Or, can I just dump a station setting somewhere in WM6 for Softbank that will allow me to do SMS.
Thanks,
I to use an X01HT on Softbank and have tried almost all of the WM6 ROMs and SMS works normally. You don't need to do anything special or load anything extra it just works.
Correct, SMS just works. Just pop in your SIM and that's all you need. MMS is a different story.
Thanks guys,
I worked it out now. I was not aware that Softbank could only send SMS to other vodafone/softbank users. It seems we cant send to anyone else on docomo etc. Well, at least I get an error when I try to send an SMS to anyone else on another network. How stupid is that.
Does phone to phone email work? What I mean is I used to be with vodafone and had one of their email addies for my mobile, kind of like push email I suppose. Is Softbank doing the same thing and does it work after flashing or are we stuck with just SMSing to mobile numbers on our network.
Thanks again,
Japanese telco companies are not really friendly, and tend to jealously hold onto the features/etc on their networks, so they will not design their systems to allow cross carrier SMS... it would save you too much money.
Sending SMS's to carriers abroad from Sotbank phones work, but be prepared to spend about 100 yen per message (outgoing or incoming).
Also, the "normal" mail that you were sending was MMS, so you would need to get a hold of MMSlite or the setting for Softbank MMS to get it up and running. I personally use my Gmail and a push-mail account from Mail2Web instead... it cost me $2 a month for the pushmail, but it allows you to sync you calendar, contacts, task as well (works as a backup) so it is worth it to be able to change phones, phone numbers, carrier, etc without changing my e-mail or losing my data! Also, I can check any big message/attachments on Gmail. Works out pretty well.

Hi all, I am not familiar to forums and I ask for help because searches are fruitless.
The story is: I cannot send/receive SMS. It appear to be set correctly with telephone provider but when I open send message it takes me to Messaging which appears to be MMS (see accounts, tools configuration). Anyway I click send then it tries to establish a GPRS connection which fail because my modem is not set up? I do not have and do not want IP provider contract. I rely on wifi as much as possible but not everywhere.
The problem is: I would like to send and receive phone message only every so often.
The question is: is it possible? Is there any difference that I do not understand? Did I loose some software features?
The features are: MDA III originally from Germany, now upgraded to English with ROM 1.42.00 WWE from 09/05/05, Radio ver 1.13.00, Protocol 1337.42, ExtROM 1.42.119 WWE
I would appreciate your help because I am really embarrassed, in the lost...
Thanks
It shouldn't redirect you to MMS messaging, as this has nothing to do with SMSes.
1. Try to open messaging, select Menu->Go To->Text messages (or similar, this is from messaging on WM5). If you now press New, it should start writing normal SMS.
2. If this won;t help, you must have installed something, that took over SMS messaging and now lead to this problem. I propose backup&Hard reset and try again.
All the configuration you need is stored on you SIM card and you don't need to configure anything - in all WM5 roms SMS works always out of the box.
Report effects.
Any One know how to use sms service ???
I'm biting my tongue and resisting the temptation to use humourous yet insulting comments as it's obvious you mean something slightly more complicated than sending a text message (at least I hope it is for your sake ).
So, before my tongue starts bleeding, could you explain a little more what it is you need help with?

I am wondering too, how to use the SMS service. I am using Kin0kin 1.30b Full now, and there is SMS Service setting in connections setting. The options are GPRS, GSM, GSM Preferred, GPRS Preferred. As far as I know, I can send SMS via GPRS if I have account in SMS provider such as SMSbug, SMS777 etc (although I can't make it work, even using IPSMS posted in hacking and development forum). My own questions is
Is it possible to use SMS via GPRS without having smsbug account or others? if yes, how to set it? If not, why the ROM has such kind of setting option?
I've searched for 8525 roms that have 6.1, and each one that I've tried cannot send SMS or MMS on AT&T's network. It is also impossible to set up their media server with these roms. Does anyone know of a 6.1 rom that I can flash that will retain full AT&T functionality? Thanks!
Ian
I have been searching for the same thing. I am able to send MMS but not receive it and when I hit the send/receive button in MMS I get an syncronization error. I have proxy set up and enabled as well as all Media Net settings for AT&T. For now I have been using wm6 by VP3G on my main 8525 Phone

Read post #168 in this thread. Install that program and you can use it to get your network settings for any rom.

I also use ShogunMark's cab...
Dr. Puttingham,
I'm using your 6.1 ROM with shogun_cing.cab, and I'm still unable to send or receive MMSs. I've adjusted all the server settings to AT&T's specs, but nothing is working. SMS works, and after I changed the keyboard layout, everything seems to be fine otherwise. Suggestions?

I've tried several of the 6.1 roms also. I really liked ShadoW's a lot. But I've had "some" difficulties with ATT related settings in them. Different things wouldn't work on different builds. MMS, SMS, even had a problem with MobiTV working at times.
I've went back to VP3G's last 6.0 build and everything works great. No problems at all with anything. I'll stay with his until someone can get a 6.1 ATT rom to be as stable and work as flawlessly as VP3G's 6.0.
I can send/receive SMS and MMS fine with Pays 3.00 ROM.

Have you tried to install a arcsoft cab? Also try giving ATT a call too and make sure its not something on thier side. Also take a look at your settings under mms menu/mms options/servers and click the server that is lighted and see if everything is correct.
Mine shows
Server name:
AT&T MMS
Gateway:
wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Server address:
http://mmsc.cingular.com
Connect via:
Media Net. Note this is a drop down panel with different options to use.
Send limit: 600K
Hope this helps..

he make a good point. last month ATT disabled my SMS MMS DATA capabilities without informing me. after i called they said i signed up for media net and they revised they billing policies and my phone make and model is restricted from the affordable media net packages and i must sign up for more expensive separate data and txt plans.
I've got the "incredibly awesome" plan that has unlimited messaging, data, etc. In fact, I just rick rolled some dude through a MMS on the 5th, so I know I have the capability. As for the server settings, that was the first thing I corrected. The first time I flashed Puttingham's rom, it didn't have the option of adding MEdia Net as a server, so I had to flash back to the stock WM6 rom. I haven't tried arcsoft yet, I'll give it a try today. With that said, the feature that I like most about 6.1 so far is the threaded SMS. If I can add that to my existing HTC WM6, that would be awesome. No, the Palm SMS doesn't work for me. If I can get the 6.1 threaded SMS without the rest of 6.1, I would be happy. Any ideas?
how is my att 8525 different then yours almost all roms run perfectly

So helpful, thank you.
I had this issue for a while too and fixed it by resetting up the MMS with arcsoft but I think you can also use a cingular config cab (which I now have on my storage card) but I did notice every now and then the MMS will stop working and I will have to reset it. Its a little annoying the first time you find out its not working but very easy to fix.
I'm unable to find Arcsoft. Every time I look for it, all I find are threads complaining about it. Regarding the cingular cab, if I give you my email, can you send it to me?

I can use MMS and SMS with Pays and Shogun_cing. Thanks for the heads up. If anything else pops up, I'll be sure to whine about it.
I do have one issue with every rom I've tried: The inability to manually set email specs. If I have gmail, it comes up as a POP3 account, when it should be an IMAP4 account, and the discrepancy causes issues with the email servers...
After many different roms and settings, I've found that all have at least one fatal flaw. One might not support MMS, another won't support Windows Mobile Device Center, another won't let me configure my email properly. Another, even though it has "big storage" will flash the "critically low memory" alert after I install one program. I'm back to my stock WM6 that is reliable. There are so many people that are so willing to make a rom that is flashy, fast, or have cool features, but I have yet to see a rom that does everything correctly. With that said, I had a lot of fun trying figure things out, and I appreciate all the hard work of those that put time and effort into cooking roms. I also appreciate all the helpful suggestions from everyone in this thread. Now I have a legitimate excuse to upgrade to the Tilt. Thanks!
I have been using Faria R-32.....all mms sms and internet and email work perfectly.

I agree with Ian. All the 6.1 roms are great! And the folks that cook them for us are awesome too! But I was finding the same thing. Each rom had a different problem for me. I think its a matter of preference. Just like everyone uses a different radio rom. I think your geographical location plays a big roll in how well a rom works for you. Just like radio roms operate differently throughout the country. I know that one radio rom doesn't work as well for me as it does for someone else in a different part of the country.
So you have to try it and just see how it works for you. It may work better for you then it did someone else. That's why I don't judge roms so harshly because although it didn't work that well for me it might be great for someone else or vise-versa.
Does anyone know how to make WM6.1 work with the Tmoblie Trigger mail? I installed 6.1 and tried to do the WM5/6 hack that works but had no luck. I had 6.1 on my phone for a few days and liked a lot of its features, but really like the Tmobile Trigger mail so went back to 6.

What is the trigger mail feature just wondering?
Trigger Mail Feature
TMobile has a hybrid push mail that was available under WM5. Basically what happens is you give TMobile.com you email address, POP & SMTP settins plus password. They then monitor you inbox. When an email is recieved thier server generates a text message that triggers you phone to check your email. The text message is invisible to the user and is automatically deleted. The advantage is that you do not have to set you phone to check email every 5min, 15 mins etc. You phone only checks when triggered to do so.
Here is probably a better discription;

Anyone have a solutuion for this? Anyone using this feature? Am I the only one that still does? I have 3 email addresses that TM triggers my phone for, most emails arrive in my phone within minutes of being sent.
Uses a txt message? I guess that wouldnt work for me. I dont need unlimited txts, but have unlimited data...so I just have wm 6.1 poll my inboxes every 5 minutes
Call T-Mobile and ask them?
Tmobile does not support WM6.1 on the Dash, and they don't support trigger mail on anything past WM5.
Anyone? You guys always amaze me with the way you can figure anything out, don't let me down now. Am I the only one who uses this? Is there something better out there?
Here I will look into this and get to you asap
I dont think T-Mo charges your account for the trigger mail sms.
If you don't have unlimited Text they will charge you. I am lucky and still have the Tmobile Mail and More plan that includeds unlimited data, text, sms, wifi and 1000 min for $69. I will hold on to that plan until they come up with 3G.
The trigger mail does work great though, don't know why they quit supporting it after WM5

How can we still get this?
You have to go to your account on Tmobile.com then goto Communications Tools. Once there you will see a section that labled "About E-Mail' Click on the learn more tab. Once here you will see a picture of your Dash, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and you will is a link that says 'Still want to continue using Windows Mobile 5' if you click here it will take you to a screen where you can set you can set up you email boxes. Basically you tell Tmobile your email addresses, passwords, and pop/smtp settings. Then turn on the alerts feature.
Now Tmobile will silently alert your phone when ever an email is received in any of your configured accounts. This SMS alert triggers your phone to sign on and retrieve then new messages.
If you are using WM6 you have to add several files from WM5 to make your phone work correctly. I have these files but wont post them here unless a moderator tells me it is ok. The files needed from WM5 are
MyEmSMP.exe
TMMEPluginEnabler.exe
InBoxDriverSrv.dll
TmMapirule.dll
TmUtil.dll
tmyemail.dll
For complete instructions on how to configure your phone goto

With this enabled your phone only checks email when triggered instead of every 5, 15 minutes depending on how your phone is currently set.
It works great, I would just like it to work with WM6.1 also, I am just smart enough to make it happen.

I still remember reading on the T-Mo site the Trigger SMS are free but it might be based on having a certain plan.
You have to read the fine print. They are free if you have a SMS plan. Each trigger = 1 text message. When they started doing this with the first Tmobile PocketPC phone the plans for that phone all came with unlimited text. I started with the original Tmobile PPC phone, then the HP6300 and had that when I went to my Dash. I still have the plan from my 6300, Tmobile would probably love me to give it up since I get everything for $69, Tzones, Data, Text, 1000min, Nights & Weekends....
I have been using this on every phone since it first came out on the T-Mobile HP IPAQ. I do not have unlimited test and it does not use text but triggers the phone to convert 701 codes to the actual email. Now you do have to have thier internet option at 19.95 a month. I too love it and have switched from 6.1 back to 6.0 because of this single application. Thats ow much I love it.. (one thing that is different is I am using a PPC)
Glad to hear that I am not the only one who loves Trigger Mail. I really want to move to 6.1, if someone could just get this to work it would be great.
For some reason I cant send MMS, it keeps telling the receiver the message "One or more of the message contents have been deleted by MMS adaptation. Either the message was too large or the components were unsuitable for your device."
The files iam trying to send are only 20kb. I also did put it on free creation mode. And iam using arcsoftmms v5 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476947&highlight=CRCs_ArcSoft_MMS_v5
Does anyone know anything else I can do? Should I switch back to the arcsoft that came with the extrom? Hard reset?
i don't have too much experience, when it comes to mms, but if there was a arcsoft version in the extrom coming with the rom, you certainly should use that version, because it was tested and works definitely. to do that, you don't need to hard reset, normally uninstalling the one version and installing the other one should be enough. plus you should also check, that your carrier settings for mms are right, usually the operator would send you the correct settings by extended sms.
Alright will do, I'll post back if it worked or not.
EDIT: Yay! I got it working. After numerous hours of researching and testing. All I had to do was a hard reset, and reinstall... Damn, I guess I screwed up the settings or something.
cant get the mms done
I just couldn's send or receive any mms.. Im wondering y? I already send the settings via the operator. It says i will get the sms to do the required settings.. However i do not get it. Instead, if i used other phone, i will get the settings.. Pls help
first of all, do you have arcsoft mms installed? you can check by looking it up either in the installed programs list, your extrom folder on the pc or simply by opening pocket outlook and look, whether the account picker displays an mms account. if not, search the forum for the program. there are a lot of different version floating around and you probably need to try out, which version fits your om and works for you. then you look for the settings and probably your carrier's settings sms can only work with arcsoft installed in the first place. if even then you don't receive an sms from your carrier, after you ordered it, it is a problem with your carrier and you'd probably have to contact them about it.
