I'm in the So. Cal area, does anyone know where I can get the screen replaced on the PDA2 if that is possible. I was holding it about 3 inches above the table, when it slipped ad the bottom left corner hit and the screen shattered. What a mess and shame. After I get it fixed I'm selling it for a loss on e-bay.
Since you're in SoCal, check out PocketPC Techs in Fountain Valley; they do screen replacements on many HTC devices.
If they can't help you, HTC now has a repair center in Houston.

I just noticed that there is a small crack on the screen of my not even a month old MDA III. I NEVER dropped, got no scratches, no chips no nothing. Friend called me and i pressed Answer and it clicked ignore.. And then i noticed the crack! HOW DID the screen crack when im so CAREFULL.
The crack is at the bottom left of the screen makes the area surrounding it unusable. Only the touchscreen is cracked as the LCD looks perfect in the background.
Im on tmobile UK and i have no idea what to do! I was searching for replacement screens but no one has any for this model (or xda2s , pda2k,qtek 9090...)
Anyone have any suggestions?
send for repair, if it's 1 month old it's under warranty.
you'll have to give good argumentation about not being responsible for the crack though.
No warranty what ever i say to them...
They are supposed to contact me after they get intouch with the manufacturer and give me places where i can repair it..
But I aint seen that happening
There are loads of places selling touchscreens for the XDA2 and they arent that expensive. Isnt there anywhere selling touchscreens for the MDA3?(XDA2s)?
May be you can try this web site for repair. It looks professional but I have never tried it.

Right so long story cut short, my beloved Desire has decided to stop working after being dropped from a small height by a friend, the glass has cracked, the LCD is bleeding, while the digitiser seems to work fine still. Is there anywhere recommended that will replace it for me? Or any decent site selling OEM parts?
Cheers
i have also had an accident with mine. the lcd screen seems to be ok but the glass cover cracked in a million placed. took it to a few repair places and are all pretty confident it can be fixed. only problem is the parts for the phone are not out yet as its so new. have been told it could be up 2 a month. contacted htc but they cant give me a quote, i have to send it to them first.
bump, might take a few pictures of it for your entertainment
Sounds like your friends owes you a new Desire!
Cracked Screen... ME TOO!
I too have had the unfortunate displeasure of seeing my brand new desire drop to the ground on my tiled floor bathroom and land in just the right position fo the screen to crack. Have insurance but as I had just that day switched to a new phone and contract with orange hadn't switched the IEMI number over with my insurer. Long story but didn't realise I had to switch as I have never claimed AS THE INSURANCE COMES WITH MY BANK ACCOUNT NEEDLESS TO SAY INSURANCE DOESNT COVER IT FOR 15 DAYS AFTER YOU REGISTER THE EMEI NUMBER OF THE NEW PHONE... so beware folks honest isn't always the best policy and sometimes having insurance with your phone provider can be a better option!..
No new screens available from any UK repAIRER YET SO WILL HAVE TO WAIT IT OUT WITH A HALf visible (but still working) screen.
I just joined your club.
I dropped my desire just 15 minutes ago onto some concrete stuff.
The glass screen is totally obliterated.....but the phone still works.
So 2 questions.
- Can I but just the glass part and replace it ? the underneath screen is ok
- How much can it cost ? ( if it's possible in europe...if not in canada or usa)
Both display and digitizer can be currently found on the internet, they're not cheap though...

They say LCD, I'd say it's a mistake, not sure though.
Are you kidding?
If it's just 60$ then it's very very cheap......
I will try to buy it.
Ps:
read this : http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-tear-down
it's a photo tear-down and re-assembly guide on how to replace the broken glass digitiser
howzit guys
i see on the net that theres a new desire coming out and its got a lcd screen coz of the bad visibility in sunlight of our amoled screens
where can we get these lcd screens - mayb its better to fit a lcd onetime instead of amoled again
I also have a broken display.
And last week I ordered a new one on ebay. I got it today, but when I installed it, it wasn't working. Only a faded green light on the right side of the screen.
The phone booted ok (vibration at the beginning and the sound when it's booted - pin request).
Then I took the new screen out and began an close inspection. I was amazed that I found a freaking hole in the display (the original does not have one, obviously).

(there is an tireless w810i behind the screen with led on, u can clearly see the light shining through the display)
I'm going to send the pictures to the seller, and see what he says about it..
Anyone had similar experience? Or any explanation about the holes? (there actually two, second one is right on the edge, can't take a photo of that one..)
Hi,
has anybody encountered this?
Few days ago, I noticed my display is not "clean" anymore, it has a colorful oil-like blot on itself. The blot does not cover the whole display area, but has an almost
uniform 1 cm thick padding..that means the blot area is a smaller area in the middle of display.
By colour I mean a visual effect that resembles a drop of oil/gasoline in water on the street.
This happened to my sprint tp2 and soon after the touch screen stopped working. I just replaced it by buying a replacement screen/top housing on ebay. Quick an painless really, no need to fiddle with the digitalizer and all that mess. I hope this isn't the case for you but expect the worse my friend. Best wishes man.
You,ve probably got the dreaded Newton Rings. I had my screen replaced about 2 months ago by HTC for the same reason. Luckily I had a month left on my warranty so i got if fixed completely FOC. My warranty has now been extended to run out next month.
Update:
My newton rings got really bad a while ago, the screen stopped function at all.
I registered my TP2 directly to a Czech servicing company (I am Slovakian)..
Now comes the interesting part.
1) They sent a courier for the phone and it took them a veery long 3 business days to repair and send it back by a courier, directly to my office. The courier man had a specialy designed bag for protecting the phone on pickup.
2) They did not care at all about my forgetting to reflash stock SPL
3) Nobody asked them for this, but besides the digitizer, they also "repaired" (read replaced) the buttons, the silver border, the display and the rails in which the upper part moves. For free.
4) They flashed a Slovakian stock ROM for me..Who could have know, that know that such a thing existed
I've been noticing dust collecting under the top left corner of my screen. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Or am I goin to have to take it to a Sprint store and have it replaced?
I just noticed the same problem with mine. This is not good for my OCD.
So I'm thinking of bringing my phone in to a Sprint tech to look at the dust under the screen as well as a small area about the size of a pencil's eraser that is brighter than the rest of the screen (Only obvious with white backgrounds).
Would it be a bad idea to show the tech my EVO as is which is rooted? Would they care if they're just looking at the physical screen?
Same thing on my EVO dust top left corner. This is the second one that has done it. Dust shoot plug doesn't help either. I bought something similar to this but it didn't help:

You will have to bring it to a Sprint repair center and have your screen replaced. My phone had dust on the top left corner as well. The Sprint employee told me there was a slight screen separation so he replaced it with a brand new screen. I unrooted my phone before bringing it in.

I was afraid I'd have to do this. Guess I have to weigh my options here. Have a dusty screen or go through the timely process of unrooting, then rooting back and having a fresh screen.

Same here I have TEP so I generally get a new phone about every 6 months so I'm not sure its worth it to bring it in.
Just to let everyone know here is how it all went down.
I called the Sprint repair center and told them about the dust under the screen. Of course they said I would have to bring it in for them to look at, but they could fix it. So I asked the guy about rooted phones he said as long as I am not having software issues he could careless.
So took my phone down at lunch went and ate came back all done. They replaced the entire display. The guy said it was all one piece so they replaced everything. I looked at the old display and I have no idea how the dust is getting in there. He said the displays have 3 revisions mine was a revision 2 replaced it with a 3. So take all this with a grain of salt. Just telling you all what he told me.
He also said he liked my ROM,... nice.
I got my One X in June last year, in Jan it developed a screen ripple on the top left of the screen. I could hear the device clicking if there was any pressure applied and a ripple went across the screen.
I sent it off to HTC for repair and they accepted it as a Warranty Repair. I got the phone back a week or so later with the fault not having been fixed but they had left dust behind the glass and the camera lens and a lump of black debris covering the flash.
I got straight back onto them to find out what was going on, they told me that the LCD panel had been replaced and I should return it again for the problems to be fixed.
I sent the device back a second time and got it back 48hrs later. I was amazed by the quick turn around and opened the box to find that the dust remained behind the glass and the camera lens. The screen ripple was still present also. I phoned them again now to find what had been done this time and they said that the main board had been replaced. (I am not sure what was wrong with the main board). They told me that they needed to repair the device again to get it right which I refused, After talking to a supervisor (which in itself is no easy job.. They don't call back when they say they will) They agreed to replace the device.
I boxed the phone back up and waited patiently for my new HOX to come in the post. When it arrived I thought that my problems would be sorted and I could return to using the phone, but... This device had screen ripple down both sides of the screen (much worse that the previous one) and had light leakage below the glass when the capacitive buttons were lit up.
I got back in touch with them and they begrudgingly agreed to replace the device again.
This time it took them a week to get the device back to me and I have just opened it to find that this one has worse screen ripple again down both sides (No light leakage though).
The ripple that I am talking about is if you lightly run a thumb nail down the black area of the glass on either side of the screen, the screen changes colours as you move up and down.
My colleague in the office has a HOX also and there is no sign of ripple on his even with a lot of pressure.
I am completely fed up with dealing with their customer services and cannot be bothered to go through all of this again.
Has anyone got any suggestions? Should I escalate this to their head office?

posts like yours make me double think before sending my one out again for repairs...i have got a yellow spot on the top right hand side of my phone...cover it in a black wallpaper you do not even notice it.
stick a white wallpaper though it is there...was thinking about sending it out but for a little spot i am thinking of sticking with it and save up some money and buy a new phone in a few months...
if i was you though escalate the matter till you get yourself a brand spanking new one and one that actually is flawless..
hamdir did not rest till he had the perfect one and he went through like 12 handsets if i am not mistaken..so if i was you send it back and keep nagging on them
