criff,
Do not use any overclocking software like XCPUScalar or Pocket Hack Master with the backpack for these programs does not speed up the backpack. In fact, it'll cause the MD or CF card NOT to be recognised.
FI, I'm using WM2003SE

So, I can use overclok withour the backpack but when I put on the backpack I desactived it?
Thanks

RE
Hi JeromeMorrow,
I've not tried that since my backpack is always attach to my O2 XDA II. Its too troublesome to attach and detach backpack and using it.
One more thing which happened to me. When using overclocking software it'll interfered with my GPS program too.

Hi JeromeMorrow,
Its best to try on your side and see whether there's any conflict with attaching and detaching your backpack.
One other thing. If you'll to use any registry cleaning software like Pocket Mechanic, MemMaid, SK Tool etc be careful when cleaning because you'll remove any shorcut which points to the program installed on your MD or CF card with the backpack detached.
FI, the 6GB Hitachi MD is out below but not sure whether its supported by the backpack. Here:-

How to link my Archos MP3 Player to my Xda IIi?

I want to use my 20gig mp3 player as a portable storage device for when im away from the pc for extended periods of time?
Is this even possible?
Thanks in advance.
No.
Actually...
There MIGHT be a solution...
There is a jacket for the XDA, wich has a CF slot here
In the wonderful world of CF, there is a USB Host card here
With these two combined, you MIGHT get it to work..
The biggest problem would be the drivers, I think..
And the fact that you will end up with a HUGE device!
But it might be possible..
Does your Archos have a CF slot. If so, copy files onto CF and insert in xda backpack.
Oops. I've since found out that on some Archos devices (eg. AV400) you can't copy from the device back to a CF card.
There is a CF adaptor you can get for the Archos (original)

Htc Universal Memory Upgrade.

Hi
I Need Information About Upgrading The Ram Memory Of My Xda Exec.i'll Realy Appreciate A Do It Yourself Info.along With The Actual Tipe Of Memory And How Much Would Be The Maximum I Can Upgrade It To.any Info Will Be Well Appreciated!
Thanks!
the only thing I can think of is, that the Universal has some empty places for memory on the pcb.
if you are good in soldering SMD mounted memory you can check, if this is possible and where you must solder them in the universal by looking in the service manual (which also explains how to take apart the device).
the service manual you can find in the ftp of xda-developers.com.
if you do not know what is SMD etc. then just forget it as you will for sure screw up your device.
for what do you need more memory?
it has been tried, and you can find a forum post on this site about 8 - 10 months old.
there is a spare slot on the main board. it was done and added, but the OS didnt recognise the extra addition.
i find it odd. it was proposed that M$ OS limited its use, however, my wife has an IPAQ running WM5, and she has about 130mb of program memory (cant check she isnt here). Sure its not a phone, doesnt have 3G or GPRS etc, but as PDA, its fast, never runs out of memory, and has more than what mine does. So it isnt M$, it must be HTC manufacturer.
In summary, no matter how good you solder, it aint gonna work.
I also remember reading somwhere that with the extra memory the battery will drain way to fast thus rendering the upgrade utterly useless
Bro u shld really forget this thght coz as it is mentioned above dat even v know dat there is an empty slot provided by the hardware manuf. but there is no support recognized by our M$ OS .
So let's get this straight once and for all:
I've read through a lot of threads regarding this, and some ppl say that the limitation lies with WM, some say that it does NOT lie with WM, some say that you have to get the hardware correctly hooked up, some say that the soldering has to be correct.........
It seems nobody has been able to settle the issue conclusively one way or the other.
so, does a pocketpc device exist that:
a) is based on the same CPU as the uni
b) has more than 64MB of RAM (128/256)
c) has WM5/6 and it sees all of the RAM??
If such a device exists, then in theory no ROM change should be necessary, and the answer should lie with hooking up the additional/replacement chips correcctly.
Thoughts along this road?

it cant be a limitation of the "os" as atena has 128 mb ram
Think most if not all the WM6 models are now 128mb at least aren't they? Would seem to point towards HTC issue...
the universal was originally a wm2003se device with 128mb ram, they made it down to 64mb with the release of wm5, this is why the slots remain. If you can solder bga (needs an x-ray machine to verify the connections) and also find out how to get the memory noticed by the motherboard then it's a simple hex edit to make wm5/6 use it.
Interesting. Suppose I get the bga chips soldered on correctly.
1) What has to be done to wm5/6 so that the added ram gets seen?
2) I read someqhere that soldering just the bga chips is not enough. It seems that some additional parts are required. How about we get a detailed explanation going here?
Or is there a thread somewhere else about this already? I've searched around but haven't seen an explanation...
D.
Edit: while using an xray really insures that the connections are correct, I've soldered bgas before using more traditional methods (i.e.: hot plate + hot air gun). Doing this can damage the bga chips you;re trying to solder, but it is not that hard to do. Plus, I think the risk of damaging a few of the new chips you just bought is worth getting the final reward of doubling the RAM of the Uni...

That's the only reason I want to sell mine, because it has too little memory. I cannot start Navigon Mobile Navigator 6. Well I can start it but as soon as I want to search for a route to my Destination it lacks memory.
I found out that with PDAViet's ROM (one of the older Crossbow ones) where it has about 30 MB free it works, but I normaly have only about 22-24 MB left after syncing with no Program running. That's too little. This is why I wait for the Ultimate 7150 from IMATE.

That's why I'm awaiting the new ones from IMate. Perhaps they are fast as they are supposed to be. My MDA III (That's the BlueAngel) was much faster than the MDA Pro (Universal)

yes but that was because Storage Memory was also in RAM...

Nothing should be done. Device would detect 128Mb automatically if RAM is correctly soldered. The RAM detection code is identical to the code used in BlueAngel ROM, so it should be working.
I even made a patched ROM on which device always think that 128Mb RAM is installed. So the problem is in soldering

There are 2 resistors that need to be shifted. Search forum, we've published the fotos.
But that is not enough, the whole RAM is not accessible, so something else should be soldered.
Does anyone know if the new imate ultimate series will recognize an sd / mini sd card greater than 2mb??

Does anyone have one of these 2003SE Uni's, to compare hardware? Has anyone seen one of these?
It was never released as a WM2003 device though before it was changed to run WM5. Finding one is pretty much impossible if anything.. I do recall a year or two ago a chinese user of the device soldered the ram on the device and got it to detect the full 128mb. His work was never posted here though, I came across it on google a long time ago. If I find the page I'll post it here.
good god please do that!!!!!!!! I've been racking my brains out reading datasheets and googling and reading stuff about this, and I've been wondering for the longest time how come nobody has done it yet!!
Hope you find that page again!!!! I sure haven't!
D.
Has anyone tried looking for FCC or Patent Diagrams?
I've been trying emailing reviewers who had pre-production ones, especially the ones who's articles said 128mb of ram
Sounds very good all this,
Hopefully someone finds out how this is to be done.
Oh and i am willing to try it out too (hmm man too bad i cannot solder bga chips)

My new Samsung i780 - Ouch!

I have just purchased a unit in Thailand, BKG, last week.
I managed to brick it after 2 hours of play, of course ...
But now I got it revived with the ROM posted in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380723
Now I am having some major issues with it:
uSIM is not working on the device, the phone is getting switched on and off without being able to connect to my 3G network. The funny thing is that SIM cards work just fine.
GPS is not functioning, I played with GPS gate and all sorts of configurations, but neither Google maps nor iGo "see" my GPS.
Resolution issues: igO always opens as a small square filling just part of the screen, therefore cannot be used. RealVGA didn't help here....
Not all applications function, such as spB Plus v2, it cannot even launch on this device - why?
The details of my device are:
PDA: i780DXHA1
PHONE: i780DXGL2
I will apprecate every support, as long as we don't have a forum here
1. I use a 3G euro sim without any issue. Even HSDPA works much better on this phone compared to my old SGH-I600
2. goto settings - system - gps advanced. Enable XTRA and download now XTRA data. Now open google maps and enable GPS. If it popup a message like "finding gps(0)" it means that it found the gps and is looking for satellites (the '(0) is actually the number of satellites found)
3. applications need to be compatible with 320x320
4. many users reported issue with specially spB apps on this device.
ciao
1) What ROM version do you have?
2) I am getting an error when downloading the xtra data (what is it anyway), and Google maps is on 0 for more then 5 minutes and then notifies that cannot get a fix

Hello, I read your signature, and you have had a htc tytn. Now I have a Tytn and I'm considering to switch to i780. Do you think it's a good switch? Are you missing your tytn or i780 it's a lot better?
thanks
Don't do it yet, even though the tytn is indeed a very uncomftobale device, to use, its built bad, the weight, keyboard, speed was not adequate to use.
the i780 is much better, but I am having some issues with it (perhaps since boought used at thailand?) for now, Euro SIM and GPS don't work, as well as other as I mentioned.
you can also call me to discuss via PM
i have the i780, a TYTN II and an imate 8502. the i780 is my phone of choice and im selling the other two. most stable wm6 device i have ever had.
Does the i780 charge via USB? mine just syncs but does not charge

As usually the charge function of the samsung phones is pure crap.
If connected to the web when charging the phone consumes more energy than the one supplied from the usb connector.
If the phone is in standby the usb charging, works, slooowly but works.
As many other phones, the usb charging works only if the drivers are loaded, so no charge happen if you are using the data cable plugged in an external usb charger.
Can you please secify whetre can we install such drivers?
HERES SOMETHING INTERESTING
it depends which cable you use to sync and charge with. When i use thre standard cable that came with the device to try to charge thre battery with the second charger, the light does not go on and it does not charge the battery. However, i happened to buy a third party USB / Samsung cable, and when i use that cable, it DOES charge the battery from my PC. note that it does not fit comfortably into my phone becuase of the little door.
thoughts anyone?

Can you please send a link to your cable, I would like to purchase this one?
I've read in other threads you need a specifix charging cable you can get third party to charge via cable.
Samsung's i780 is great but it has problems, and I will probably never get another Samsung PocketPC again. While I love the form factor, thinness and lightness, and keyboard, I simply hate Samsung's stubborn refusal not to use USB, and the absolutely decrepit bluetooth support.
But I find it better overall than the Tytn.

How are you finding EFN's Rom?
Work-arounds
Maybe like me you got unlucky and have a unit with back software flashed on or maybe like me a bad piece of chip inside. I eventually sent my unit in to re-flash the ROM but to no results as it was a hardware problem. After that was changed it was all good with no issues.
The unit and stock cable does sync the unit via usb but the software version has to be upgraded. Your unit is loaded funny though with a different phone and PDA ...
PDA: i780DXHA1
PHONE: i780DXGL2
Anyway with DXHA1 I suggest you either get your unit back to Samsung to upgrade the software version or do it yourself.
Just look into this thread to download the loader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409258 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380723.
You'll also need the Full Russian Image and the English HE1 from Efn or do a search and you'll find the full English HH1 which I am on. I was on Efn's 3XG reloaded and waiting for his latest cook.

total waste of time, the ammount of shorts put onto the chip by HTC shows there never was any intention of allowing it to be easy....you are VERY likely to kill the thing before getting anything working.

Ive been writing some experimental software that relies on GPS. It will run on standard PCs, not mobile phones. GPS isn't just for positioning. It also gives you a VERY accurate clock. I use my bluetooth GPS on both my laptop and my desktop all the time.

I don't know how the map data is for where you are, but I run Garmin Mobile 10 XT for me here in the States. It's pretty nice and for only about $100 US. For that you get the GPS reciever, the maps and the software, and it's all prertty easy to use. Not too bad compared to some of the all in one units that cost up to $300...I use this every day and with all the POI's i use it all the time just for phone numbers and to see where a place is. I love how it lets you click the number to call it. 2009 maps are supposed to be out in a couple weeks.

transplanting camera

hi
i more or less accidentally bought a blue angel (o2 xda III) without a camera a few weeks ago. i simply didnt check if it had one. since i don't necessarily need one it is not a big deal but still it would be nice to have one.
so i thought about buying a broken BA to get the camera and back-part of the case from it and put it in mine.
so the general questen, is that possible at all? is the connector whatever i need for the camera on the mainboard though the device actually was not planed to have one?
did someone already try that? because i did not find anything via the search
do i need any extra software, especially rom (i am using sun_dreams wm6 at the moment)?
and just btw can i also use let's say a vpa3? i am not sure since the front-case looks different but the back seems to be the same...
thx in advance
fleity
Every device as HTC Blue Angel (whether S66, xdaIIs, MDA IIIor pda2k) will carry same hardware...I wonder why the previous onwer tempered the BA for ya
anyway, U need a camera with its connection strip/cable. all u need to do is the lift off the plastic metal covered mount on the camera place. and search for a bare connector on motherboard. you can follow Blue Angel Wiki to dis-assemble ur BA and find the right spot to put the camera in.
and NO, u wont need any specific software/OS update too, coz every cooked rom here comes with every driver needed to make components on BA work.
Happy Hacking. just find a broken BA with a WORKING camera and transplant it to urs
thanks a lot for the answers
i will make some photos and post some links here as soon as i got a cheap broken BA and did "the operation"
