The LG g4 suffers from a bootloop where when the phone gets hot, over time it will brick the phone and leave it in a boot looping state. LG states that the cause is "loose contact between components". this may have something to do with the time the phone was made or, the serial number. It is said that the affected serial numbers can range from S/N 505, and up to S/N 509. that would mean that the affected models would be september and under. the serial number on the one I've ordered (ebay) is 511. So what i'm really asking is if it is true that phones with a serial number of 509 and over have little to no risk of bootlooping. I'm just hoping I don't get caught up in the dreaded issue.

G4 H815 IMEI shows as Sprint G3?

I have bought an LG G4 that has some issues. The previous owner took the phone to some unofficial repair centers and now I have difficulty in even identifying the model of the phone. Now:
1. In the Settings, About the phone, Hardware info, the phone's model is listed as LG-H818
2. CPU-Z reports the device as LG G4(LG-H815). The board is msm8992.
3. Likewise, AIDA64 reports the device as LG-H815.
4. When I take the back cover, I see H815 stamped in three places at the top of the device, just above the camera module.
5. When I take the battery out, the sticker says LG-H815 but when I check the IMEI number, it shows up as belonging to LGLS990, which is Sprint LG G3! I have checked via imeidata.net and also LG CSMG Tool. Both give the same result.
6. In fastboot mode, the device shows up as locked. I registered with LG Dev. Found out about the device id and when I try to get the unlock code, it gives me this error: "Device ID is unmatched. Please check your Device ID. Your account will be locked if you enter the wrong Device ID more than 9 times."
What do you think could be going on here? Is this a refurbished device with a phony IMEI number? How can I unlock this device?
Thanks for all your help and advice.
Refurbished probably, send LG support email and they will send you unlock code

Check iemi in about device i believe network area should give the real iemi there. Prob is a refurb. Or in worst case a stolen with modified iemi if the iemi in settings is diffrent check it on swappa if the same like prev poster email lgdev they can update it
Thanks for the replies. I have spoken to an experienced technician today. He said my device was probably put together in China with a motherboard from here and chassis from there etc. So it looks I have been scammed.

check boot loop serial

Guys as the name suggests , wanna know the best method to check the actual serial number of the nexus 5x. Please someone tell me the best method to check the serial number. Thanks
Settings -> about phone -> status
Do you mean you want to check it and the phone is stuck in a boot loop ? If so, then you need to go to bootloader mode to view it.
This first post in the thread explains how to get into bootloader mode by holding the correct key combinations at boot.

Well don't you think that serial number can be modified by rooting and using build prop editor?

No actually wanna buy a new nexus phone but I am afraid that I may end up with a faulty phone , so wanna check the actual serial number of the set.

Well thought of doing that but then if one can edit the serial number from inside of the phone , then it's not a problem for one to change the sticker I think.
Just realised the serial number is not inside the case. It's only the IMEI.
I didn't realise you could edit both serial number and IMEI via software. I'd like to learn more. Any links to relevant info ?

The only method I know of is a sticker on the retail box. The serial number in the Settings is different and doesn't indicate build date.

You're supposed to keep your IMEI number private. You don't want to be freely giving it away to random websites and I would suggest deleting your link.

Reusing a LG Bootloader unlock.bin token

So my LGG4 is off getting repaired due to the dreaded bootloop issue. Once I have it back I plan on unlocking the Bootloader and rooting again. I have heard issues whereby repaired G4's get the 'DeviceID unmatched' error when applying for a unlock token via the LG website. I understand you can contact LG to get this rectified; however I have found the email from LG I got when I first unlocked the Bootloader, with the unlock.bin file attached.
My question is: Should I run into any DeviceID issues during the unlocking procedure, can I reuse this file to unlock my Bootloader, or do I need to go through the process to get another re-sent? The email details a specific DeviceID so my initial thought is a No, but I did wonder (hope) this number is just used to generate a generic token that is matched via the IMEI? Any help much appreciated.

Lol only reason i knew is cause i came across sam prob a few times now as u can suspect. Ive never heard of any problems with anyone and lg doing this. Should be pretty straight foward. Call em. Might have to goto a higher level of tech service not sure
Im just assuming standard support level is not very supportive lol.
This depends on how they fix your device.
Carphone Warehouse in the UK fixed mine by swapping the mainboard to a 701,
They did not tamper with the IMEI or Device ID's on the replacement board and swapped the sticker under my battery cover to reflect the new details.
I did not need to contact LG as i just requested an unlock for the new IMEI and Device ID Pair.
Hope you get sorted

i was assuming lg done his i didnt even know aftermarket companys did the repair authorized of coarse
they had to pull the device id off of the old one and program it to the new one so technicly they did tamper with it
they may have been able to pull the info from the imei i dont know but my note 5s device id changes from rom to rom sometimes and i have to update it with the company who unlocked it so it holds same imei
just trying to wrap my head around how they got uree bootlooped devices id as it can be changed even if iemi stays the same

I got a new IMEI and Device ID and just went through the unlock proceedure again with this new info.
Thats what i meant by them not tampering with it, I got a new device with my old casing/screen.
They did not transfer my IMEI or Device ID to the new board.
CPW are authorised on behalf of LG to repair the device and since i bought it from them it was easier/safer for me to take it into a store.

Need help..

Hi
I bought the used g4 two days back. In the about section its showing h815 model with android 5(lollipop).
I updated it to marshmellow using LgUp and lg firmware. But after upgrading sim is not working . I reverted back to lollipop and still sim not working.
After not finding any solution i went to the technician , he found the board inside is of h810(at&t) model. While the software is showing h815.
So anyone of you know how to solve this problem. Sim was working before perfectly.

Maybe flash a h810 at&t ROM. Verify the actual model of the phone by removing the back cover and looking for h815 or h810. It's also possible you have a h810 motherboard in a h815 shell.

On board h810 is written. But software showing h815 model. Any idea..?
I believe this is a dodgy repair. As htr5 suggested, I would try an H810 kdz.
I have skimmed over these issues a few times but taken no real notice as I just keep repairing mine through carrier insurance every time I get the bootloop.
Is your IMEI still showing *#06# if sim not recognised now?

Yes imei is showing. As currently the phone is running h815 software. If i flash 810 kdz through flash tool , will it cause any problem or brick ..?

Great idea from SavageRobot. Type your IMEI number into http://www.imeipro.info/check_lg.html and it should pull up your phone's model number
I have seen this issue a bunch specially here lately people piecing g4s together.
Flashing diffrent firms crossin.
Go off the imei. This is always real touchy. Cause of cross flashing and bricking. To completly verify. Check imei and pull back of case apart and look at any model nums on the motherboard
