Question Pixel 6 pro or another ? - Google Pixel 6 Pro

Hello I have a question whether google pixel 6 pro is the best choice when it comes to modification options? Are there other phones that give more options on the subject of modification I am thinking about samsung note 20 ultra which is better and why?

I have both & the Note20 Ultra model that I have is not rootable.
Even with that limitation, if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Note 20 Ultra.
I like the overall physical footprint of the Pixel 6 Pro better, but, for overall use, my preference is the Note20 Ultra.
The things that tilt it to the Note 20 Ultra (for my preference) are the brighter display, SD Card & S-Pen.

I am waiting for more opinions On the plus side, there is a sd card reader on the minus, for sure, there will be no such modification options as the pixel will have, I do not know what to take until tomorrow, museum to make a decision

You've yet to define the modifications you want to do.

I think about testing various roms, unlocking blocked functions etc.

In that case, it's easiest to do on a factory unlocked Google Pixel of any type, at least in the United States. Outside the United States, at least some Exynos CPU-based Samsung phones can have their bootloader unlocked, but even then you void your warranty and it trips Samsung's "Knox" permanently, and you can never set that back to untripped.
On a Pixel, it's very easy to set the phone back to the way you got it if you ever need to, and there's no permanent indicator that the phone was ever rooted if you take the proper steps.

is the pixel screen much worse than the note 20 ultra screen? I still do not know which to choose the price is the same almost pixel 6 pro 550 € Note 20 Ultra 500 € of course we are talking about used phones

for display screens, it is always going to be Samsung phones. But pixel's screen doesn't look bad at all. Not as bright and not as vibrant as samsung phones but it is there

is there a problem with the green screen on pixel 6 pro?

What Phone do I get Now??

Ok, let's say there is something to this New Note 7 problem.
What phone would you get?
Has to be Android...
HTC 10?
Maybe LG V20?
Pixel?
S7 egde?
I know.... Questions, questions, questions!!!
Has to be a flagship phone and have an S-pen type feature, so none of the current offerings. Have already reactivated my Nexus 6P and will wait a while to see what shakes out.
Wait for S8E... But it will be a pain because I still own a S4
If there is another recall. I hope they just replace it with s7e
Sent from my SM-N930F using XDA Free mobile app
I'll just stick with my Note4 and wait for the Note8, might go the route and flash a Note7 ROM
Since there's no other phone that I absolutely like right now, I will probably just revert back to my Note 4 and be contract free for some time, hoping something better comes along. I had the S7 Edge for a few weeks, and I found it was unresponsive and lagging at times, so there's really no alternative for me.
No idea. In my case in the US I switched carriers so my old device has already been sold and I would have to get something else immediately or terminate my contract with them. I would say Pixel XL if it was sold though AT&T.
i wish they sold the moto z force in the netherlands, no brainer!
perfect specs, almost stock android, shattershield glass (better than gorilla glass 5) waterproof etc etc.
https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-z-force-droid-edition
I'm giving my note 4 to my daughter.. So I need a new phone.
I'm choosing between
1. Google pixel
2. LG v20
3. Sony xz
Hopefully such thing is not happening as Note 7 satisfies almost all my criteria for a good phone... If it does and since none of the current offerings by other OEM able to fulfill what I want, I will just have to go back to my Note 1 (chose it because it has the biggest screen at that time + a stylus)...

Give your daughter a new phone and keep the N4, it has no competition out there.
But at the original starter: there is no other high-end phone out there with a stylus, bar the Note series. If you want a stylus, you'll need to get a Note 4 or 5. The Note 4 is only available second hand and the Note 5 only via grey import. I've made a shortlist myself:
Note 4: only secondhand, SW support has been stopped after MM.
Note 5: no SD, 128 GB version expensive. No European version.
LG V20: not available until at least early 2017, no hardware buttons on the front, no OLED.
Google Pixel XL: way to expensive, no hardware buttons, the big chin is ridiculous
Nexus 6P: again no HW buttons. not a fan of the design (back look likes the white droid from Wall-E)
Axon7: new brand to me. What about support? Their market launch was scrappy.
Moto Z Force Droid: only available on 1 US carrier.
Huawei Mate 9: should be introduced shortly. Big screen, but no HW buttons. Presumably a LCD screen.
S7E: bloody edges... go away! I strongly dislike the glass allround design. It is slippery as hell and gives me back the nightmares I had with my S4 which handled like a wet bar of soap as well.
1+3: delivery times galore. But seems like the best bet for now, especially for the price.
iPhone 7+: Yes, I said it. I would almost consider an iPhone. Especially with the ridiculous price fro the Pixel XL with 128 GB. It should net a good resale price for the S8 Stylus to arrive.
If you want a flagship phone with a 6" flat screen, the choices are dire to non-excistent.
I feel yea, if I have to turn in the Note 7 (which is looking increasingly likely), there isn't really another phone that covers it all.
S7 Edge gives the curved edge, water resistance, camera, SD card, and next-in-class screen.
Note 5 gives me the Stylus.
Mean I'm probably looking at the S7 Edge. *sigh* I just don't like the look of it as much as the Note 7. it's TOO rounded, not just the glass, but the body as well.
Edit...The more I think about it, the more I lean towards the note 5. Camera isn't as good, but the screen is still solid, and I'm really liking the stylus now. SD card...well, most of my music is in the cloud, photos auto back up to the cloud, so end of day, I'm really just losing on water resistance and the AOD, and curved edge. (which I like, because...bezel less on the sides now!)
Guess I'm leaning toward the pixel XL.
I would get none. Not giving competition more reasons to gloat.
I just talked to Best Buy mobile 10 minutes ago. They told me I need to bring my replacement Note7 in immediately. "a Second recall is coming very soon" I can exchange it for any phone however since I was leasing the Note7 I only have leasing options for a Samsung S7E, LG or Iphone. Any other phone would need to be purchased outright. I asked about the Pixel XL and they told me that I would have to purchase the unlocked $829 phone outright from Google to bring to Sprint. so this Note7 issues goes from bad to worse for users.

You may not have a choice unless you want to use a Gimped phone.
If they do a 2nd recall and cripple the Battery.

Ohhh and Samsung has screwed the Pooch but good here.
I've had every Note and this is problem for me...
There is always a choice. Previous phone, no phone at all, 80% phone...
Same boat here. My note 3 was awesome, still works and runs like new ( on MM currently). Still plenty fast. The only dilemma is I gave it to my son already.
I've been using this s7 edge for a few weeks now waiting on the new batch of note 7's. It's very close performance and spec wise. I just refuse to pay full price for this phone though since it's NOT what I wanted. They had me return / refund my note 7 and buy this in its place. They then said I could return it regardless of how long it took to get a new note 7.... but I think that was just the manager of the store looking out for me. What if I keep this and he gets transferred during the wait, as it looks like this will take a while.

Anyone switched to the Galaxy Note 9?

Will I miss the fluidity of stock Android going to Note 9? Don't like the Pixel 3XL.

I don't think you'll miss fluidity. The Note 9 shouldn't give you lag problems.
What you might miss is stock android. Samsung Experience isn't bad, but it isn't definitely for everyone.

Yes. I did for 24 hours and returned it. Screen is amazing. Camera still is ok, but not the quality of Googles. The reason I didn't keep it was I still prefer simplicity of things. The Note 9, while extremely nice, is just loaded with so much ****. The S pen, very nice, but to be honest I'll rarely use it. Throw in the fact its over $1000 with taxes, I really couldn't justify having it. I loved the bigger cleaner brighter screen but again, it's that price. It's a great phone, but I found myself loading Oreo themes on it to keep myself sane. Ohhhhhhhhh BIGGEST FACTOR-no wifi calling added. I called Verizon and they weren't sure either. This was an imperative thing I need cause where I live signal is weak and I found myself almost unable to make calls at home.
I know this doesn't answer your question but I went from the Note 8 to the Pixel 2 XL as it is more reliable day to day use. Yes the Note series has some extra features but I prefer stock Android with monthly updates. Battery life has also been better on the Pixel 2 XL for me. However I would think that Samsung would have sorted battery issues with the Note 9s 4000 mah battery. I am still enjoying my Pixel 2 XL still runs smooth with no hiccups.
To me I would rather get Huawei Mate series over samsung Note series. Especially the upcoming Mate 20 Pro.

You can make a Samsung phone look like a Pixel, but will still have all of Samsung's bloatware running in the background...which is why the Note 9 needs a 4000 mAh battery, and the Note 8 battery was inadequate.
If I ever go back to a Samsung phone, I will get a Note for the Spen. I didn't use the Spen much when I had my Note 2/3/4, and I probably wouldn't use it now. But the Spen is the only feature that makes Samsung truly unique. A Samsung phone without a Spen is just another phone but with a bunch of crap that I will never need.
It sounds like you must have purchased an unlocked Note 9. Most unlocked phones never allow WiFi calling or visual voicemail on VZW. Pixels are a rare exception.
I haven't yet but I will. Lately my Pixel 2 XL is crazy laggy and I'm not getting a Pixel 3 XL with only 4GB of RAM.

What I would give for the Note 9 HW with Google SW .. Until then I'm sticking with the SW from Google
If I were to switch phones (which I won't) it would be the OnePlus 6 or OnePlus 6T

Its a shame OP6 doesn't work on CMDA networks as I require Verizon network for where I work.
Switched From Pixel 2XL to Note 9 Today. . .
And I'm already regretting it. Verizon had a BOGO, and since I was porting my brother's line in anyway, decided to treat myself to a new Note 9, damn the fact I only got my Pixel 2XL the week of Christmas.
This is a nice rig, feels substantial and solid, but chew gum, Google cooks Android just the way I like it, and Samsung's UI is still just too busy for me to abide. My poor wife will prolly find herself with an unexpected upgrade to a Note 9 of own by week's end lol.
That said, if anyone knows of some witchcraft that'll allow me to see least make this Note 9 LOOK look like my beloved Pixel 2XL, please, let me know.
Thank you -zs
Nope, after using flagship Samsung devices for years, I'm keeping my "stock", bloatfree Android experience.
Quality software > slightly better hardware

The closest you can get to making a Note 9 (or any other Samsung phone) look like a Pixel is by installing the Pixel launcher which is only a small part.
I think you should wait and keep the pixel 2 xl. It's highly likely that next year's s10 and note 10 will have a much more radical design with way better specs. The note 9 while nice, is nothing special. Samsung is now under more pressure than ever to update their design. My advice keep the phone , save your money.

I know I sure as hell won't be getting a Note 9. I've been on stock Android since replacing my old Galaxy S2(that phone was such a piece of ****...worst purchase I've ever made) with a Nexus 5 followed by a Nexus 5X and my current Pixel 2 XL. Even though Samsung's software has improved quite a bit since the Galaxy S2 I still personally think it's crap compared to stock Android. Haven't used the Note 9 enough to tell if there is any lag but the Note 8 still had noticable lag and still has the same issues with greatly decreased performance after major updates that the Galaxy S2 had.
Also, considering the hardware the Note 9 battery life seems to be unimpressive. A brand new phone with a SD 845 and 4000mAh battery seems to be getting the same battery life as my 10 month old Pixel 2 XL with a SD 835 and 3520mAh battery.
I did, used it for 6 days and am back to my Pixel 2 XL and plan on selling the Note 9 on Swappa. Note 9 is nice and is certainly feature rich, but I just wasn't feeling it.
I have both the Pixel 2 XL and an unlocked Note 9, 512 GB/8 GB RAM. The software experience on the Pixel 2 XL is smoother but lacks customization. Here's what I did to achieve a clean look on the Note 9 and performance is very fast.
Install Nova Launcher
Install PixelizeD theme
Install patched Google Phone app
Install Nova Launcher
Install Gboard
Install Android Messages or Textra
Disable or deny permissions to Samsung equivalents
The Note 9 with better/bigger screen, bigger battery, more RAM, wireless charging, theme options is definitely my daily driver.
The Pixel 2 XL doesn't require any tweaks for smooth performance, but some may find the software too minimalist. The superior camera and fast updates are it's strongest selling points at the moment. Once Google fully implements its new material design with light and dark themes, it may finally have the cohesive look that skinned interfaces have provided.
Until (or if? ) Samsung fixes this I cannot foresee myself using the Note 9. This picture is unacceptable for a $1000+ device IMO
So, full disclosure - after posting the same pics on another forum someone suggested I check the rear picture camera size setting on my Note 9. Kinda feel stupid for not thinking about that myself as I have been tinkering with smartphones going on 10 years now ... but as it would turn out the size was set to 18.5:9 (7.9 MP) and not 4:3 (12 MP). Don't recall ever messing with this setting, but even if I did I would not opt for the lower MPs ... I just assumed it would be set to the max MP out of the box. Anyways, hoping this makes a substantial difference in what I've been seeing from the Note 9 pics, we shall see.

It still suggests a bug, because the camera should be capturing with square pixels, and the pixels should be displayed 1:1 -- scaled linearly in both dimensions.

Taimen is still a slayer! Yaass!

Would you pay more for a pixel 3 than as S10+ Ceramic

Hi,
I have been due for a new phone for a while now and I'm wondering what to buy. I've owned a pixel 1 and pixel 2 and love them. I enjoy the fast updates, I don't have a need to customize everything, and I like not having duplicate apps like it's often the case with Samsung if you want to use the google app. I hate the notch but I do like how it can be hidden but leaving the notification icons up there.
My carrier (Telus) has a huge incentive to buy Samsung right now and even though I prefer pixel, they are making it really inviting to buy samsung.
Here are some options I have
- Reasonable option : S10, 128gb, no "bring it back" option, free phone with 150$ of store credit
- All out : S10+ Ceramic 512, either 200$ out of pocket without "bring it back" or 60$ store credit with "bring it back"
- Pixel 3 XL, 128gb, 260$ out of pocket (what the heck?)
Essentially to return my Pixel 2, they offer me 195$ credit on a pixel or 395$ credit on a Samsung.
At those prices, between parting with 260$ for a pixel 3 XL 128gb or 200$ for an S10+ 512 Ceramic, it's a tough sell for the pixel.
It depends on your needs. Let's be honest, these are just phones. If you play games, take calls, text and watch video, both will do it just fine. I have both the S10+ as well as the Pixel 3 XL. I do prefer my Samsung S10+ to be completely honest.
I mostly want a phone that works well and that's smaller than the Note 9 the company gave me for a few months. It makes no sense to me that a 64gb pixel 3 XL would be the same out of pocket as 512gb S10+.

I would go for the Pixel any day. IMO, it has a better camara and will always get updates faster. You also get unlimited photo storage. In the past, I always used Samsung and I noticed that after the phone was updated to a new OS, it usually became useless. The battery died right away, the phone crawled to a stop it would freeze often, etc. When google phones get OS updates, I noticed they rarely have problems like these. You are also free to root and tinker with then if you'd like. For me, the Pixel is the clear winner.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL
I would go with s10, I don't think the pixel 3 is worth its price tag, plus the pixel 3 has lost so much of its value. Android Q won't be anything amazing, Google has no idea what to do with the OS. My biggest gripe is the battery , it's really no good.

I have pixel 3 xl and i got $200 off and so happy with camera battery life performance are great. My old phone was p20 pro. I also checked out samsung it feels me so girlsh and kids phone(it just my point of aspect) expect note series ...
Based on my experience l had samsung s9 plus, iphone x , sony xz premium , ,huawei p20 pro, and blackberry pixel 3 xl is the best one over all. I also like blackberry however it was good only for business
I bought an s10+ with the intention of trading in my p3xl. After a week I returned the s10+. It had a ton of clutter that I didn't need and couldn't delete. The sensor didn't work that well, took 2 or 3 attempts usually. It's a good phone and if you are a galaxy fan you will love it. For me there is more to like about the pixel.
Why don't you sell your pixel 2 and get a used pixel 3xl on swappa. I paid $500 for a used great condition phone.
Thanks everyone.
I went to the store on Friday and tried to see what was going on with the Pixel 3 but the promotion is only for Samsung phones. The 3XL/64 would cost almost 300$ out of pocket while the S10+/128 was 5$ I decided to give the S10+ a try. Before the update to the biometrics, I agree, the fingerprint sensor is absolutely horrible. It's a lot better after the update. Telus is supposed to push an update tomorrow so we'll see if that changes anything. Battery life is good so far but not as good as the 6T it seems even if it has a much bigger battery.
We'll see if I keep it or not but so far the Samsung UI doesn't bug me, it's actually nice and much better than Touchwiz.

Question Oneplus 9, 9 Pro, S21+, or Ultra? Help me decide

Last week, I switched from a OnePlus 7 Pro to the Galaxy S21. I'm definitely taking my standard S21 back today because I think it's just too small for what I like. Plus, it randomly gets very hot for no reason. This occurs in safe mode as well, so I know it's not any of the apps I'm using. I'm having a hard time deciding whether to go with the 9, 9 Pro, S21+, or S21 Ultra. Of course, the Ultra is top of the line, but it's so big and heavy. I love the size and form factor of the OnePlus 9, but I don't like that it's not QHD. Plus, I've read and watched a lot of reviews that said the Hasselblad partnership seems to be mostly hype, and didn't really make the cameras that much better. That's the only issue I've had with all of my OnePlus devices since the 6. I'm not a crazy camera user, but I do like to get a great photo now and again. A friend of mine said he tried the S21 Ultra, but it didn't really fit well in his front pocket, especially when sitting down. I worry that that would drive me insane.
Depends, do you care about modding or do you just like a phone that takes better pics?
I went with the S21 Ultra and I couldn't be happier.
I was trying to decide between S21 Ultra and 9 Pro and made myself a pro/con spreadsheet (which I've since deleted). For me, the 9 Pro won by like 50% more points so it turned out to be a clear choice. If you don't plan to root or mod, and you don't mind Samsung's bloated OneUI, the score might be closer.

Interesting. I don't know where the OP is located, but I don't think I can buy that version in the US.
I don't have any reason for root with my S21 Ultra. My only reasons for rooting before were for Viper4android and Adaway. Samsung has amazing audio controls and I'm using Blockada for ad blocking.

I have both also. I know I want to keep the OP9 Pro. Right now I'm still within the 30 day return window for the S21 Ultra and testing it against my older Note10+ to see if the Ultra is worth the investment since I have these others.
Audio-wise, I think the S21 Ultra is the best. I have a lot of high end headphones/dacs/amps and I always use my phone as the source (thank you V4A).
I have both myself, the only real reason I got the 9 Pro was the ease of unlocking the bootloader and rooting convenience. I used the S21 Ultra since release and really didn't "need" root, themes readily available, audio is on point. the only real gripe I had was I didn't think battery was all it could be and without root access to the system I was having a hard time solving that. Not that it was bad... Just not what I thought it should have been. With the 9 Pro it started off the same way, but the ability to manipulate various values in the system has yielded a pretty decent days worth of juice. With all that said, my opinion is the S21 Ultra is by far a superior device in just about all aspects, but the 9 Pro is just plain FUN.

It's a global version, but its slower htan the snapdragon
I said this on another thread I think but over recent years I have preferred almost everything with a OnePlus over the equivalent Samsung or Pixel and it was only key features like no wireless charging a slightly sub-par camera and maybe no always on display that saw me ultimatewly choose a samsung or Pixel.
This year it is almost the opposite in that I think I prefer pretty much everything about the S21 Ultra over the 9 Pro, I'd even say that Samsung feels just as fast or faster this year. In terms of things in favour of the 9 pro whilst I think the S21 camera is better overall the Oneplus is better I think for pictures of pet, kids etc where Samsung still blurs often (long-time Samsung achiles heel) and if you pushed me I'd still probably give Oxygen OS the edge over OneUi but that one is far closer than it has been before other than no aptx-hd that is it really.

Interesting, I was testing which phones sound better with my higher end system, comparing the Note 10+, S21 Ultra and the OP9 Pro. The OP9 Pro does sound better with Bluetooth but the other 2 sound better using a USB connection going into my dac. I would say the S21 Ultra edges out best this way (wired), audio-quality wise.

This is just crazy to think. Why not the standard in high def bluetooth sound? Just....what? I also prefer the way games are played on the oneplus which is a huge priority. I love the haptic feedback on what just happen to be my two favorite games. I take about one picture a week so the camera isn't a thing for me but it's nice that oneplus has made a competent one for the last two generations. I love no bloat too. It's all the little things during daily use. I wish it had something like dex but I would rarely use it with my new job like I used to. And I love the rapid wireless charging. My z fold 2 will take over two hours to charge wirelessly from zero. The 50w charger has come in handy so many times. I have had the s21 sitting in my cart at Amazon for over a week now, lol. Trying to resist the temptation.
I do also wish the FPS stayed on the AOD like it does on a Samsung, that is a nice feature.
If it has no card slot I won't even consider it it no matter how good the form factor is.
Need my bloody data drive.

I went from a 500gb card slot on my note 8 to a oneplus 256gb and it doesn't really bother me, if I have something bigger than that I use a usb c otg cable and break out my portable 1tb ssd

Question Pixel 6 pro

Hi guys I'm buying a new phone in the mid range and I was thinking of getting a refurbished Pixel 6 pro from Amazon, so my question is: are there any crazy bugs or cons that will ruin my daily experience with the pixel or have they been fixed with the updates.
Q2: I can also get the s21+ for the same price so which one should I get?
A lot of the bugs have been worked out.
As far as the Pixel 6 vs the S21+....the S21+ might have a bit of an edge on performance, but the Pixel 6 Pro beats it on everything else - RAM, display resolution, and camera resolution.
In terms of modding/rooting, a Pixel is definitely the way to go as Google products have always been extremely development friendly. Samsung is less so - there's hoops you have to jump through in order to be able to flash custom images even after unlocking the bootloader, and doing so will trip Knox permanently, rendering any Samsung security dependent features/apps like Samsung Pay inoperable.
I'm personally quite happy with my Pixel 5 and am in no hurry to upgrade, and nor am I much of a fan of the new "style" of the Pixel 6/7.... but given the choice between the two, I'd go with the Pixel.
