I flashed the stock firmware of my device and I tried to root it again by installing twrp but after flashing the twrp, it boots straight to download mode. I can't get to recovery mode even attached to a pc.
I've already unlocked oem and bootloader.
Hi upbeat... I am having the identical problem, did you ever sort it out.
I out of ideas at this point.
Cheers LL13
Its been a long time.....but i think you either forgot to do the necessary steps after unlocking oem unlock (reboot + required steps)
Or you haven't followed all the steps correctly to install twrp.
Double check the guide and make sure no steps were missed.
Since A11, if you want to boot into Recovery Mode, besides of holding hard-keys combination, you will also have to plug the device into a data cable or plugin a Type-C headset

Hi all.
I need help from a hivemind. I've got a LG G E988 with E98820B firmware. I've rooted it via ioroot (successfully) and tried to install custom recovery via freegee, and now my phone is not booting into download mode. If I try to reboot it from my PC using adb, I get "boot certification verify" error. Otherwise phone is booting fine into it's stock HK firmware.
So, long story short, I need download mode to flash stock european firmware but I have this strange error. Closest thing to solution of my problem is this thread , but I want something less radical. In case if something less radical exists.
Any ideas?

Did you power off device via home power button? When you power down, then try to power back on just hit the power button then hold the plus and minus volume rocker while letting go of power button.
Yes. It casually boots up into rom. I think I somehow messed up my recovery. So is there any way to restore recovery, or flash custom recovery, without booting up in download mode?

Enable USB Debugging
Connect mobile with PC and select LG Software (Wait for 1-2 minutes and let the drivers install)
Once drivers are installed, Run LG flash tool and start flashing KDZ. It will automatically boot it into download mode and flashing process will start. (If flashing stops / stuck at 4% and your phone is in download mode, remove USB cable, close LG flashtool.... connect USB cable again and restart KDZ flashing)
Tried. Now I can't boot into download mode AND can't boot into rom. And none of my computers see my phone in this state. Any possible explanations for such situation? And what to do about it..
Hi
I recently received my shiny new M9 and like I have with many HTC phones prior to it unlocked the bootloader installed TWRP (latest beta version) and installed my rom of choice (LeeDroid). For about 10 days now the phone has been great working well on the new rom and all was well with the world.......
Last night the phone rebooted on me and boot looped about or 6 times before finally booting correctly and then behaving normally. Today however the phone is constantly boot looping and failing to boot. I can access the bootloader menu via vol up and down and power button but if i select recovery or download mode the phone simply boot loops over and over. RUU mode also does this.
Once in a blue moon if the phone is left looping over and over it will actually boot into the rom and work ok but as soon as the phone is reset or runs out of juice its all aboard the boot loop express.
regards
Brian
Fastboot commands work however adb commands do not. I have fixed boot loops previously but on this occasion a solution appears to be evading me.

Sounds like a tricky one, you cant get to download mode to flash a new recovery and cant boot recovery. So if you can do fastboot commands do you mean at the bootloader? If so you are limited without s-off in what commands you can do from bootloader menu. I would be looking for an RUU based on your cid to get you back to stock at this point. You may have to wait. You say adb commands dont work.. have you enabled developer options and installer drivers on your pc?

Dev options have indeed been enabled and all drivers installed I can use adb on my partners phone with no issues. Fastboot commands as you say only work at the bootloader screen,
Sadly I cant even flash a RUU the moment i try it simply reboots the phone back into the bootloop :crying:

Try updating to very latest fastboot, I had to update my sdk a while back as fastboot wasnt working properly with newer phones. Worth a try
Still fubar
Once in a blue moon the phone boots into the rom fine and you can use the phone its very weird I literally am all out of ideas now.
Think im gonna bite the bullet and send it back to Vodaphone and pay to get it fixed. I cannot enter download or recovery mode by any method that I have been advised or have read about thanks to those who tried to help it was appreciated.
Well you can try this in the bootloader. Open up a cmd window with fastboot in the directory and type fastboot erase cache
then type fastboot reboot
Download an ruu for your device. Rename the file to 0PJAIMG.zip
Place it on a sdcard with lower than 32gb and flash it. Need to flash it twice. Directly after each other. All done in download mode
I can'r get into download mode sadly and I have tried many many methods from threads about how to do so. Recovery mode and Downlode mode are just not working hence I think It's going to have to be repaired :crying:

That's not possible, do u press power and up volume for 10 secs so it restarts and then immediately volume down?

I do indeed and the phone then either shows the battery indicator for about 5 or 6 seconds then reboots or simply reboots. If i selected recovery mode in bootloader the phone just reboots as well.
How did you get into boot loader?
You could choose download there, or reboot into ruu mode

I can get into bootloader by holding power + volume up+down but If I select either recovery or download mode the phone simply reboots normally and commences boot looping again. If RUU mode is selected the phone DOES reboot into RUU mode but if you try and flash the RUU the phone simply reboots and boot loops.
Try placing the zip I mentioned above on SD card.
Still unable to enter download mode via any means so I think it's going to have to go in the freezer till it wont boot and I can send it back
Things I still CANNOT do
Enter Recovery (Phone simply reboots and commences boot loop)
Enter Download Mode (Phone simply reboots and commences boot loop)
If I try and charge the phone with it turned off as soon as it gets power it boots up and boot loops Once in every few hundred boot loops the phone will make it into the rom and will work ok untill eventually it decides to bootloop again after a few hours.
Just wanted to pass along some knowledge I gained the hard way when rooting my BLN-24 with Nougat (360).
1) Make sure you have the EMUI 5-specific TWRP and SU. They may have the exact same version #s as their EMUI4 counterparts, but only the EMUI5 versions will work.
2) (This one cost me a LOT of time): Once you "fastboot oem unlock", do NOT let the phone boot to system until you've installed TWRP! If you do, it will FRP lock, and the "Allow OEM Unlock" developer option will be permanently greyed out. With FRP lock on, you won't be able to flash a new recovery (it will error with FAILED (remote: not allowed)).
So after running "fastboot oem unlock" at recovery, the phone will reboot and factory reset. Once finished, shut it down, then start up with USB cable plugged in and holding Volume down + Power on. This will get you back into fastboot where you can now flash recovery or recovery2. If you screw it up and flash the wrong recovery, you'll have to RE-lock your bootloader, then re-unlock the bootloader and go through the whole process again.
Unless there's a simple way around that problem that I totally missed...
3) Don't try to re-lock your bootloader once you've flashed a new recovery. Once I did that, the device would only boot to eRecovery. (Actually, I flashed TWRP to recovery2 so I could still get OTA updates, but I suspect flashing a replacement recovery and relocking bootloader will cause the same issue).
Hope that saved somebody some pain.
Help needed After Flashing berlin twrp recovery . The phone just boots to Revovery.
Thanks for the article Florp . I need some help to fix my recovery issue.
I have flashed the twrp berlin recovery for EMUI 5.x and now my phone just boot to recovery no matter what I do.
Your help will be much appreciated.
Are you able to get to the bootloader (fastboot) screen (USB cable plugged in, Volume down + Power on)?
If so, what does it show for the lock status of FRP and bootloader?

The Bootloader screen says
Phone Unlocked
FRP Unlocked.
If you only flashed TWRP and haven't flashed a custom ROM, I would try to flash the stock recovery for your current ROM and see if that fixes it.
Thanks for the heads up. Good looking out..
So I was trying to install TWRP on my phone. I have a Mac and was looking at some online guide. I had a pin set-up, and this is what I did:
1. Installed ADB and fast boot
2. Unlocked the boot loader on the phone
3. Check the terminal commands that the device is connected correctly
4. Had the ABD and TWRP img files on the phone.
5. Tried to fast boot TWRP.
What is happening now is that I'm stuck on a boot loop of a TWRP screen, the screen if flashing and won't load. I'm guessing to let the battery die out over night
I was looking at a few threads and some say that I should flash the factory image. Everyone is saying flash the stock file... However, I can't even get the phone to turn off or go back into bootload mode for my computer to recognize the phone.
Any tips?
Hold volume down and the power button down. Keep it held down might take sometime but you should get to the loader. boot twrpRC1 flash rc2 after getting in twrp. You could also start fresh by fishing factory once you get back to bootloader
Long press power button to shut it off
or press power button and vol down together and will take you to fatsboot mode and from there you can use volume button to seltect bootloader or recovery
I don't do pin's so I'm not familiar with the hangups involved with those and TWRP.
But I guess the first thing I'd do is remove the pin lock.
Then power down phone.
Wait 30 seconds!!!!!
Press power + volume down until phone powers on, then let go.
Should boot right into bootloader.
Fastboot boot twrp.
Install TWRP from the fastbooted TWRP.
I'm not familiar with the Mac process but on a PC we need to fastboot into TWRP from an image file on our computer first, and then flash the file on the phone.
I recommend keeping a copy of the boot signer on your device, flashing this fixes most of these types of issues I have found, especially with new rom upgrades etc.
Did you let the phone fully boot into the system after unlocking the bootloader, or did you immediately try and boot twrp?
I've had this problem twice before, both after a fastboot unlock, and I had to let it fully boot into the system before proceeding

Thank you you too. That was the problem, my patience. I didn't hold it down long enough for it to boot back into boot loader mode.

Hey I think that was it. I immediately tried to boot twrp without letting the system fully boot.
Thanks you all for the support. Go XDA!
The first question everyone should be asking is if OP was on the O Beta previously.. If that is the case Op needs to flash the factory image in both slots.
Put phone into the bootloader
Flash all bat
Put phone into the bootloader
fastboot --set-active=other
fastboot reboot bootloader
flash all bat
fastboot boot twrp
Even if OP wasnt on the O beta, this should fix the issue.
After successfully flashing Oreo, I am seeing the same flashing/looping TWRP (twrp-3.0.2-0-RC1).
Long press of Pwr restarted the phone.
Rinsed & repeat a few times.
Any thoughts to flash TWRP (temporarily)?

Success. Thank you!
Hi guys,
I just recently bought a Z2 Force EU model (XT1789-06) and thought i better get it unlocked and rooted a.s.a.p.
The first order of work was to boot it up and perform an update to the latest updates available (November 2018, IIRC).
Following the update and after making sure there weren't any more updates, i proceeded to unlock the bootloader using the official Motorola method and it was successful.
I then copied over SuperSU-v2.82.zip to storage and downloaded twrp-3.2.3-2-nash.img to my PC.
I followed this guide in order to run TWRP and root: https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/oreo-nougat-how-to-root-z2-t3756669
After installing SuperSU and rebooting the phone, the Motorola logo was displayed and stayed there for a while. I remembered the verbose logs after installing SuperSU syaing that first boot could take a long time.
I didn't risk rushing anything so i left the phone and planned on picking up where i left off the next day. It has now been 14 hours since the phone rebooted and it is still stuck at the Motorola logo.
I have tried to power it down by holding the power key but that does not work. I could only force it to react by holding down vol down + pwr button, then doing the same again to enter the bootloader.
I then tried to do a factory reset by performing the following:
vol down + pwr button > select recovery mode > hold pwr 2 seconds then vol up > Wipe data/factory reset > reboot
I am now back to a stuck boot procedure at the Motorola logo I did some more reading and found many threads explaining the procedure and what to look out for.
It seems like my safest bet now is to avoid SuperSU and install Magisk instead. However, before I attempt to root again, I would like to have the phone boot up normally again.
Would a kind sould please point me in the right direction of a guide that can help me out of this mess?
Please note, I am already using the latest software update version.
EDIT: Software is 8.0.0/OPXS27.109-34-17
fastboot --set-active=other
fastboot reboot
Take the update again then flash magisk after rebooting from the update.
What happens? You are swapping slots back to a working bootable slot, then updating to the latest update to fix the broken slot. Once it is fixed, follow the rooting procedure and flash magisk 16.7 or higher in TWRP and reboot. (Be sure to fastboot boot TWRP and not flash)
