Question Terrible performance after December update? - Google Pixel 6 Pro

I am experiencing horrible performance after the December 2021 update. From unlocking the phone to just general application launching and navigation, it's just sluggish. I have rebooted a couple of times after charging overnight already.
I am also using Nova launcher as well so I am not sure if that is a culprit.

From a UI point of view, I find the new update to be just as if not even more nippier. Also using Nova.
As a non-gamer nor am I bothered as such, haven't checked out benchmarks or anything like that.
Feels good to me!

feels a lot quicker imo. factory reset it idk

I use Nova launcher as well. I do not have performance problems.
Performance for me is same as before update.
So Nova is likely not the issue. Take a backup in Nova settings. Uninstall and reinstall Nova and restore the backup. This way you can check what it gives if you uninstall Nova.

I was using the Tapet wallpaper app and turning it off seems like it helps the performance.

I'm experiencing faster, smoother performance after the update. Also using Nova.

Also using Nova and it doesn't feel sluggish at all. Switch to pixel launcher just to test and see if it's any different

seems snappier to me as far as overall usage.

I am going to do a full flash and wipe my phone in a few minutes. Just for clarification, am I suppose to use SQ1D.211205.017 or SQ1D.211205.016.A1?
I bought the phone from Google, unlocked, for ATT service, USA.
Thanks

I'm on
SQ1D.211205.016.A4

I initially sideloaded 017 and thats when I had problems. Reflashed with A1 and it seems more stable. I will give it a few more days.

Use the SQ1D.211205.017 Its for US Carriers..I side loaded it on mine and I'm on ATT also works perfect.

I just received my phone yesterday, updated to latest version with OTA and then factory reset the device and reinstalled apps without data, had to use 1 hour to log in to every thing(safety thing for Danish electronic ID where you need to wait 1 hour before it working).
I haven't used the device with earlier updates so I can't say if it is worse in performance but I can say it is a step up from my last phone(Oneplus 8t)
The fingerprint sensor is not as fast as the Samsung s21 ultra but it is faster then the Oneplus 8t for sure.
The battery is really good for me, still on second day but I get like 48 hours almost on 1 charge with a lot of Android Auto with Maps navigation and Tidal music playing, Firefox to check news and Gmail for mails with 3 accounts all tellinge when I get mail and calls and messages coming in and being replied to via the Google Assistant.
To me this Android device is the best I have ever owned, way better then my old S4 with Cyanogenmod on with custom kernel or my Nexus 6 or the Oneplus 9 Pro, this here is my first bugfree experience, all is so fast and fluent, can't seem to find a bug yet on it.
Oh and my Samsung Galaxy watch 3 is also running with step counter and stress levels being monitored, and puls being sent to the phone at different intervals.
My score on this device is 10/10 for performance and battery but 8/10 on price as it is a little expensive in Denmark to the US price.

I experienced high temperatures and low performance after the update.
But several restarts and using it daily, fixed it.
Now I ran a benchmark and I'm in the normal numbers.

How did you approach the December update? Did you install the OTA and then do a factory reset? I'm just trying to get more information to fully understand why you're having or experiencing a loss of performance. Thank you

Initially, I installed the wrong OTA. I have the unlocked version but installed the US carrier by mistake. I initially thought they all worked the same but I was wrong. I reflashed the unlocked version and then restarted my phone a few times and everything works as normal.

Which OTA version did you sideload initially, and which did you end up installing? Also what carrier do you use? I've been having some issues, and am wondering if I did the same. I'm on TMO US but purchased unlocked from Google Store, and installed the "12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.017, Dec 2021, US carriers)" version.

For what it's worth, if you're using a United States Carrier, then you should be using the US Carrier version. Doesn't matter if you're using a factory unlocked P6P (like mine is) or anything.

Verizon - dropping wifi and really bad battery life

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this or not.... But I am experiencing two major problems with my phone:
1) It periodically just drops wifi. I have great signal strength and none of my other devices (and I have a lot) ever behave this way. And I have seen it happen on other wifi spots as well.
2) This one is even worse. I am not able to get more than about 9-10 hours on a charge. Not using the phone *at all*. When I checked what was using the battery power all I saw was normal google stuff, no app itself directly consuming
Mine is a brand new verizon phone.
anyone else experience these? Worth seeing if I can get verizon (or LG) to replace the phone?
Factory reset and if that doesn't work, exchange for sure.

I disabled all the Verizon apps, including DT Ignite. I have not activated the phone yet (waiting for root or Helium to work), and now the battery usage graph has almost flatlined when not in use.

Just an update after disabling VZW apps, 22 hours, 17% battery drain. This is on a non activated phone, WIFI on, minimal use). Not a great metric, but much better than with them enabled.

Application Manager. Scroll over to "ALL" tab. Click on the individual apps. It should have the option to Disable near the top. Those apps will be moved to the Disabled tab if you should ever want to enable them in the future.
I always factory reset after leaving a store because their first priority is to get the phone into a usable state and they bypass the Google login to start syncing my information.
The first thing I install is Nova Launcher. To disable Apps, I just click and drag to the desktop for "system info" then uncheck "Show Notification", click "Force Stop", then "Disable".
I just clear out the crap out the App launcher. I haven't gone in through Settings > App Manager and disabled any services or background apps.
I've also had (and still have WiFi issues). Just got my phone replaced today from T-Mobile and my WiFi has intermittently cut out a couple times today already. Perhaps its something that will require a software update to fix.

If I'm understanding the articles, it is an app so carriers can install Bloatware after your purchase. Even after a factory reset. The good, the bloatware doesn't have to be installed and part of the factory ROM. The bad, everything else...
According to a post on Reddit, the small update on ATT was to fix 5ghz Wi-Fi issues. Hopefully all carriers push it.

On VZW I do not have any issue with WiFi, I do however have not so great battery life. I did disable all the useless items I can. I get about 9-10 hours with 1-1.5 hours SOT. Guess it's OK, but would have liked to get more of what others are reporting (3+ hours SOT).
Coming from the G3 on 23C, I did notice that my battery time did drop a bit, so it's not far off of what I had, not going to return the device, just going to deal with it for now.

Yea, I'm in the same boat. Not sure exactly what to do. I can return it and get an S6 which I hear is faster and has much better battery life. Or I can stick with it and hope a patch fixes or that it gets unlocked and we can run something else...
Oh and another thing, has anyone tried to recondition the battery?

Wish I had better luck with my update. Mine keeps getting an error 402 when I try to install the update. I tried to use the Verizon software upgrade assistant software but it keeps saying my phone is updated already.
I am having the same error 402 problem. I have tried clearing the cache, factory reset, updating via the upgrade assistant, etc. No luck so far on anything I have tried.
I have been talking with Verizon support all day but still no luck. I will post back if I find a solution.
Is there a reason firmware files are impossible to find for this model? I'm using mine on at&t and can't upgrade the normal way so I'm guessing my only shot would be to borrow someone's Verizon sim card. Was hoping Smart Switch would trigger the upgrade like it has in the past.

First time poster. Anyone having issues with doze not working on this variant? Getting 10-20% drain nightly. Was having mediaserver keep it awake draining 30%. After finding and uninstalling the app causing that Gsam showing hish usage by the system. Doze have never turned on since downloading update. And I too had the download problems on the OTA. First attempt took 4 hours and got to 99% and failed. Second attempt took about as long but finally worked.
Only issue I've found so far is the default gallery does not show Downloaded images, and yet when I plug the phone into my laptop I can see them in the Download directory. I had to download another gallery called QuickPic, which is a ton better than the factory gallery, and it displays everything as it should.
Other than that, I had no problems with the download or update. I downloaded OTA via WiFi on the phone itself and installation went smoothly. Battery life is significantly better with its default "snooze" mode it goes into when the phone is idle for a period of time.

Oh, and OneDrive doesn't seem to be working. It's not syncing images like it was on KitKat. I tried Refreshing it to no avail. Gonna' try to reinstall it. Google Drive works perfectly fine, though.

Update Marshmallow G928V
I brought s6 edge plus (SM-G928V) Verizon unlocked phone and I am using T mobile connection on phone.
So the problem is : My phone doesn't show any marshmallow update. I think, its because of T mobile sim .Since, i am not using Verizon connection.
I tried to update the phone with samsung smart switch. When i connect the phone with SMart switch, it does show the Marshmallow update but when i click on update it nothing happens.
I searched for Verizon marshmallow FirmWare link for s6 edge plus, but i could not find any ?
Could you please sent me link so that i can update with Odin or is there any other way to update it.
Just some help
Heya folks, I bought a sparkling new Verizon galaxy s6 edge plus at a lucrative price of USD 350. It's unlocked and I'll be using in India I just bought it because of the sale price.
Now do I understand that Verizon version has locked bootloader and no root at all. Will they give bootloader anytime in the future? Also does one need a Verizon Sim card for getting updates? I'll be using in India how will I get updates then? Anyone else who has bought unlocked version pls help me. Cheers folks thanks a ton.

The new update 3.2.4

Should I or should I not? I heard it has problems with the LTE and stuff.. Is it true?
I haven't had any issues with neither lte signal nor battery life. cannot say about android pay as it is not available in India yet. You can always do a reset after the update and if still face issues then you can flash an older firmware.
I have it ... And i didnt notice a single issue with 4g/LTE.. i use LTE 70% of tthe time

It does break Android Pay. Says something about having to unroot your device. Mine is not rooted, it's 100% stock. Known issue.
I don't have any problems with 4G and whereever available I use it. On O2 in the UK.
I just noticed battery drain with the 3.2.4 version. In 1h up to 10% - 15% even in standby.

No issues for me with LTE or battery life; I'm in Toronto, Canada. I don't use Android Pay so I cannot comment.
Running OOS 3.2.4 with Ex Kernel, Root and Xposed.
Phone connected to WiFi overnight drain is 0.6% per hour.
i just received my brand new OP3 today and I updated to the latest 3.2.4 and its been working fine for me and again I don`t use android pay.

subjective question and I assume this thread was started because of the other posts you have read. To be honest there are a few of these and honestly as in most things in life its a crap shoot. People complain about things on here that have never happened to me. So in short update or not update the choice is all yours and asking in here will only confuse you more.
By the way guys the Android Pay issue was a Google thing kinda and the update to Android Pay fixed the ability to pay with your phone. That was done some time last week or earlier than that I believe.
I updated to 3.2.4 last night and Android Pay didn't work for me today. See my update below. It does work .
Edit >>> I think the issue may be on my side due to an updated debit card. Will confirm later whether Google Pay now works for me.
Update >> Yep. It was my card.. Android Pay works fine. And, I'm posting this on a solid LTE full-bar connection. Glad I took the plunge.

Well said. Every same model phone differs in behavior with firmware updates. And in every phone forum I have seen a million of the same threads for these same reasons.
Now on to the question:
It is a crapshoot, so the only way to find out is to install. If you don't like it, roll back an update. Oneplus had every firmware they have released on their site. On 3.5 my better isn't as good, but I like the feature set and looks, but had none of the problems others have had on 3.2.4.

Indeed. Atleast with Spotify and Soundcloud.
With Spotify, it'll stop after a song. Once the device is unlocked, the next song will immediately begin playing automatically.
With Soundcloud, it'll just completely stop mid-song.
Like I mentioned, I don't have any battery-saving apps installed. Battery saver mode is disabled. Restricted background data is disabled both globally and in app permissions. Really strange...

I never do clean reinstall after a major release unless it's necessary. It takes so long. Re-insalling all my apps, reloading all my data (music, videos) restoring texts and some app data, configuring apps, logging into accounts, etc. It takes hours.
I didn't realize you could side load the OTA without having to do a wipe. I'll probably try that. Thanks.
You will lose Call Screening options.. If you updated
Just sideload it or flash the ota with twrp.
That being said you aren't missing much staying on 10 for a while

Make sure it isn't a 3rd party app messing it up.
Otherwise either a bad download or the the software is buggy.
You can wait to see if Sammy pushes out a fix or take it a Samsung Experience center or send it to Samsung.
It must be quit the terror... that's why I tend not to update. In practice it's been far less trouble for me.
I'm having the same problem with my s20u snapdragon. No luck yet, I guess I'll have to factory reset the phone.

I worked out my bad battery life was due to earlier updates (Sept, Oct) causing 5GHz Wi-Fi issues and random drops. Even with the phone 1.5m from my Ruckus WAP it'd eat battery sitting there doing nothing at a crazy rate. Switching to 2.4GHz has almost completely fixed the battery drain problem for me. Almost, as in fairly close to how the phone was with the July update.
I had a lot of confidence in Samsung's updates after buying the phone in April, each update seemed to improve the phone and the battery life was great. We've owned many Galaxy phones since S3 but always rooted them with some flavour of AOSP ROMs, and this is the first Samsung phone I have not rooted so I was relying on Samsung to regularly update the ROM with improvements. Dumb ...
So I agree with @blackhawk ... no way am I updating to Android 11/One UI 3 for at least 6 months, maybe never. I've downloaded the July firmware in case I get so frustrated I wipe and reload the phone. I'm not a gamer and I don't spend massive amounts of time on the internet so "security updates" might not be that important. I'm an old IT guy and very suspicious/vigilant about what I click on.
If only there was a way to stop the System Update regularly pestering me to install what seems to be a worse update than all the others, judging by the range of comments posted so far.

I hope you mean you're 500mm from the WAP ... half a km is pretty ambitious for Wi-Fi reception!

I use a package blocker to keep AT&T updates from running.
You can also request that they (at least AT&T) don't push you the updates. I did that way for a couple of years.

Tks, I'll check out any package blockers. Telstra in Australia is unlikely to be able to stop sending updates, but I'll enquire.
Do they work for App Updates too?

Isn't there an option in Developers to turn off auto updates?

Damn it ... you're right, kind of. The option is to stop it auto-updating on phone restart, which I have disabled to avoid this.
Thanks for the post as I would have restarted the phone at some point and been really annoyed with A11 being auto installed.

I found this on a Sammy forum...
"Yes u can stop the updates if your recent Android working well
disable this packages
com.sec.android.soagent
com.wssyncmldm "
Bricks etc are not my fault.

Sometimes manually entering the updater apk name in the blocker will work even though there's no registered check box for it.
If the blocker can't block carrier updates it's worthless to me...
Theres a problem with wifi on S20+
It is eating up battery even though screen is off.

Look at the Wi-Fi signal bar, are you using 5GHz Wi-Fi? If so, try switching to 2.4GHz.

I've taken this screen after switching to mobile data.
I was using wifi hotspot. Not a router.
