Still Waiting For Android 11 OTA Update - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

It's now been three days since Android 11 has been released and it's still not available on my Pixel 2 XL. I've checked for updated manually a few times a day since then. Anyone else?

You are lucky that you didn't update your phone and I recommend you not to upgrade because It has become laggy and almost every app is freezing while using and battery drain is horrible even have completed 4 charging cycle my SOT has reduced to 4 hours which it was 5.30 hours.

no issues at all after updating to 11
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

Android works flawlessly since Beta 3 for me.
If you were on beta program, get out of it and try again.

If you are so desperate, opt for beta and within few hours you may able to update.

Why not just downlaod direct form Google, if you really want it...
Full Factory Image: https://developers.google.com/android/images
OTA: https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Me, i always clean flash a full factory image, especially on major releases....im strange like that..i also post less about Android OS issues...maybe theres a correlation <scratches head>

I never do clean reinstall after a major release unless it's necessary. It takes so long. Re-insalling all my apps, reloading all my data (music, videos) restoring texts and some app data, configuring apps, logging into accounts, etc. It takes hours.
I didn't realize you could side load the OTA without having to do a wipe. I'll probably try that. Thanks.

You will lose Call Screening options.. If you updated

Just sideload it or flash the ota with twrp.
That being said you aren't missing much staying on 10 for a while

Me too, went back to 10 after just an hour, too many issues, particularly with apps that wont work on it...like my fave backup app, meaning i would have had to reinstall all my apps and reset them all up from scratch....

When does the official Lollipop update push over the air?

I'm reluctant to root and install a custom ROM. When does the official Lollipop update push over the air for our Nexus 7 (2013) WiFi?
It's being pushed right now, but gradually.

What does gradually mean? :silly: Just kidding.
The availability was supposed to be November 12th. By now, all Nexus 7 owners were supposed to receive the update.

Waiting here as well for my nexus 7 2013...... (but my brother received two days ago on his nexus 7 2012).
I have two Nexus 7 2013's each on different Google accounts and to date '0 for 2' on this update. Phantomware to me so far. Tick-tock...
Same here... No Lollipop yet.
Still no update here yet in UK... Yet my missus got her update on her nexus 7 2012 few days ago
Yep. My old 2012 Nexus 7 got it a couple of days ago, my Nexus 5 got it a few hours after that, but still waiting on my new Nexus 7.
You can backup your existing data on your Nexus 7, then flash the Stock Factory Image that Google provided and install and enjoy... The first boot though takes 5-7 mins.. Restore your personal Data, NOT the data partition.. Lollipop handles the file structure a tad differently..
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Edit: when installing a factory image, it completely wipes your device, verses an OTA..
If you look hard enough you can find someone who has posted the OTA here on XDA..
But if you are rooted, using Xposed, Custom Kernel, or a Custom recovery you will not be able to update..

This misses the point of having a Nexus. This is XDA I am sure people know they can flash it. The point of a Nexus is to get the updates right away from google. I have other devices which I flash roms on but bought a Nexus for the pure google experience.

There is trick, I forgot how or what.. But it resets the Google cache, and you hammer on update and sometimes rather than not.. the update would pop up.. Someone please remind me of how that is done, I just find the OTA here and sideload it, or install the Factory image..
They are rolling the updates in certain areas in a controlled manor so if something really bad pops up that can stop it from hitting every device at once
If you've never seen this , give it a read, explains why the OTA may have not reached your device yet.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1r1dz4/44_kitkat_has_started_rolling_out_on_the_n4/cdiwt6f
Rollouts are conducted in phases. Typically they start at 1% of devices for around 24 - 48 hours; we watch the return rates and resulting device checkins and error reports (if any), and make sure nothing looks wrong before sending it to more. Then typically it goes to 25%, 50%, 100% over the course of a week or two.
What the percentages mean is that when your device checks in, it has a 1% chance (for example) of being offered the OTA. If it doesn't (randomly) get an offer, it will never get an offer until the next batch.
IOW, once your device checks in and gets turned down, that's it until the next batch. Mashing on the "check for updates" button just causes your device to check in again, and get automatically turned down again.

A google engineer replied to this on reddit
"Doing this changes the primary ID by which Google knows your device. As far as the servers are concerned, the device was basically factory reset. There are many downstream effects of this, but a big one is that this invalidates the tokens used by any app that uses GCM (which is nearly all the Google apps, and a ton of third-party apps.)
How apps react to GCM IDs changing varies by app. With Play Store you have to log out and log back in, I think Gmail usually handles it transparently eventually but won't get new mail notifications for a while, etc. Some apps you may have to clear data on to recover. All apps will simply stop getting GCM push-messages, until they get a new GCM ID; some do this frequently, others rarely, and some apps use the GCM ID as an ID on their own servers (as it is opaque and basically random), so other things besides push messages may not work.
Nothing bursts into flames, but it makes a ton of nuisances on the device, including some that can look pretty mysterious. Your mileage will vary depending on what apps you use.
All of this can be avoided by just doing an 'adb sideload' if you are impatient."

The new update 3.2.4

Should I or should I not? I heard it has problems with the LTE and stuff.. Is it true?
I haven't had any issues with neither lte signal nor battery life. cannot say about android pay as it is not available in India yet. You can always do a reset after the update and if still face issues then you can flash an older firmware.
I have it ... And i didnt notice a single issue with 4g/LTE.. i use LTE 70% of tthe time
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It does break Android Pay. Says something about having to unroot your device. Mine is not rooted, it's 100% stock. Known issue.
I don't have any problems with 4G and whereever available I use it. On O2 in the UK.
I just noticed battery drain with the 3.2.4 version. In 1h up to 10% - 15% even in standby.

No issues for me with LTE or battery life; I'm in Toronto, Canada. I don't use Android Pay so I cannot comment.
Running OOS 3.2.4 with Ex Kernel, Root and Xposed.
Phone connected to WiFi overnight drain is 0.6% per hour.
i just received my brand new OP3 today and I updated to the latest 3.2.4 and its been working fine for me and again I don`t use android pay.
When you have a look at the file name in the update notification, it seems to be from 6th August 2016.

I've certainly noticed battery drain. I'm barely getting 24 hours out of it now, when I was getting about 36. A friend of mine says the same thing and thinks it's to do with dropping off the Wifi a lot.

subjective question and I assume this thread was started because of the other posts you have read. To be honest there are a few of these and honestly as in most things in life its a crap shoot. People complain about things on here that have never happened to me. So in short update or not update the choice is all yours and asking in here will only confuse you more.
By the way guys the Android Pay issue was a Google thing kinda and the update to Android Pay fixed the ability to pay with your phone. That was done some time last week or earlier than that I believe.
I updated to 3.2.4 last night and Android Pay didn't work for me today. See my update below. It does work .
Edit >>> I think the issue may be on my side due to an updated debit card. Will confirm later whether Google Pay now works for me.
Update >> Yep. It was my card.. Android Pay works fine. And, I'm posting this on a solid LTE full-bar connection. Glad I took the plunge.

Well said. Every same model phone differs in behavior with firmware updates. And in every phone forum I have seen a million of the same threads for these same reasons.
Now on to the question:
It is a crapshoot, so the only way to find out is to install. If you don't like it, roll back an update. Oneplus had every firmware they have released on their site. On 3.5 my better isn't as good, but I like the feature set and looks, but had none of the problems others have had on 3.2.4.

Ever since I've upgraded to 3.2.4 I've had an issue with music playback stopping after a few minutes with the screen locked. I reverted back to the previous OTA but the problem persists. Prior to updating to 3.2.4 I never had this issue with any of the updates.
Any ideas? I don't have any app-killing apps installed.
Thanks.
I personally have no problems with it, battery and reception is great. Got the phone 4 days ago, updated right out of the box then flashed superSU and Xposed.

Indeed. Atleast with Spotify and Soundcloud.
With Spotify, it'll stop after a song. Once the device is unlocked, the next song will immediately begin playing automatically.
With Soundcloud, it'll just completely stop mid-song.
Like I mentioned, I don't have any battery-saving apps installed. Battery saver mode is disabled. Restricted background data is disabled both globally and in app permissions. Really strange...

Pixel xl cellular data out of control

Hi all, first post here, hope it's not a double up.
I've recently rooted my pixel and installed elemental x kernel and have recently been suffering from crazy cellular data use.
I have data saver on, sync only over wi-fi and any other setting I can find to minimise data use on.
Eg: In the last 20 mins I've gone through 100mb with the phone completely inactive.
Anyone else come across a similar issue?
Thanks
I have the same issue with no solution
That caused by OTA update, since you're rooted, it try again and again and never sucess.
Please upgrade your Pixel to latest build to get rid of that.
Wow, damn glad i upgraded to latest right after rooting, i have the smallest data plan i could get and that happening would kill me.

I believe you can turn off the automatic updates in the developer options. I can on my Nexus 6 running 7.1.1.
Reading and waiting impatiently for my XL to be delivered...
You can indeed turn it off in settings, but according to at least one person, apparently that does not necessarily stop it from happening. Or rather attempting to happen, if twrp is installed any ota will fail.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
You can go to Data Usage under the Settings and look at your Cellular data usage and Wi-Fi data usage. This will tell you which applications are using up your data.
Right after I got my Pixel XL, I ran into an issue where an app used up 4Gig of wifi and 2Gig of cell data in about 30 minutes. Turned out to be a Disney game. The data usage screens showed this right away. I expect it was actually some of the ads the game was serving up. But, I will never install another Disney game because of this. Sorry grand kids.....

Actually the February update was able to install ota on my wife's Pixel despite being Verizon bootloader unlocked, twrp, & rooted. I'm not sure if she clicked "install" after it downloaded or not. She's usually careful to ask me if its ok to update or not.
Unfortunately the update broke all audio on the phone except over bluetooth. Google has already replaced it though.
Just a quick update.
I reverted back to a nandroid image I had of stock android 7.1.1 with root and twrp with stock kernel. (In case it was an app ravaging my data)
Everything seemed fine until tonight. Data usage was slow and steady (with all data saving settings on, including automatic updates turned off), then boom, while I was at yoga (1.5hrs) 1gb used.
I'll try flashing the latest build to see if that fixes it. But if it's going to do this every time a new build is released I'm probably going to have to unroot and live the vanilla life. No fun.
In case its pertinent:
Running build number NMF26U with twrp, root, stock kernel.
The perpetrator listed under mobile data usage is: ANDROID OS (1.8gb ~2days)
Sounds like it just keeps trying to update to NOF26W, so if you update it may well stop doing that.

I just looked around some more online and found others complaining of the same thing. Perhaps it's working for some but definitely not all. Just hit it again, still nothing.
Hate to hijack the thread, but this is as good a place as any to ask this really simple question of mine:
How do I update to the latest July patch if I'm still on stock May, but rooted with Magisk & Xposed enabled? I'm assuming I can just flash the full factory image zip with fastboot (disabling -w to avoid wipe) and just making sure to remove Magisk/Xposed before hand.

I tried to report the issue to google chat support but those people are useless outside of processing RMAs. 2 different reps told me the update isn't out yet bc it's dated the 5th and had no idea hitting the check for updates button overrides the staged rollout. Ugh.. I reported the issue on the pixel community board so let's see if that gets any traction.

Question Terrible performance after December update?

I am experiencing horrible performance after the December 2021 update. From unlocking the phone to just general application launching and navigation, it's just sluggish. I have rebooted a couple of times after charging overnight already.
I am also using Nova launcher as well so I am not sure if that is a culprit.

I use Nova launcher as well. I do not have performance problems.
Performance for me is same as before update.
So Nova is likely not the issue. Take a backup in Nova settings. Uninstall and reinstall Nova and restore the backup. This way you can check what it gives if you uninstall Nova.
I was using the Tapet wallpaper app and turning it off seems like it helps the performance.
I'm experiencing faster, smoother performance after the update. Also using Nova.
Also using Nova and it doesn't feel sluggish at all. Switch to pixel launcher just to test and see if it's any different
seems snappier to me as far as overall usage.

Use the SQ1D.211205.017 Its for US Carriers..I side loaded it on mine and I'm on ATT also works perfect.
I just received my phone yesterday, updated to latest version with OTA and then factory reset the device and reinstalled apps without data, had to use 1 hour to log in to every thing(safety thing for Danish electronic ID where you need to wait 1 hour before it working).
I haven't used the device with earlier updates so I can't say if it is worse in performance but I can say it is a step up from my last phone(Oneplus 8t)
The fingerprint sensor is not as fast as the Samsung s21 ultra but it is faster then the Oneplus 8t for sure.
The battery is really good for me, still on second day but I get like 48 hours almost on 1 charge with a lot of Android Auto with Maps navigation and Tidal music playing, Firefox to check news and Gmail for mails with 3 accounts all tellinge when I get mail and calls and messages coming in and being replied to via the Google Assistant.
To me this Android device is the best I have ever owned, way better then my old S4 with Cyanogenmod on with custom kernel or my Nexus 6 or the Oneplus 9 Pro, this here is my first bugfree experience, all is so fast and fluent, can't seem to find a bug yet on it.
Oh and my Samsung Galaxy watch 3 is also running with step counter and stress levels being monitored, and puls being sent to the phone at different intervals.
My score on this device is 10/10 for performance and battery but 8/10 on price as it is a little expensive in Denmark to the US price.
I experienced high temperatures and low performance after the update.
But several restarts and using it daily, fixed it.
Now I ran a benchmark and I'm in the normal numbers.

Initially, I installed the wrong OTA. I have the unlocked version but installed the US carrier by mistake. I initially thought they all worked the same but I was wrong. I reflashed the unlocked version and then restarted my phone a few times and everything works as normal.

Which OTA version did you sideload initially, and which did you end up installing? Also what carrier do you use? I've been having some issues, and am wondering if I did the same. I'm on TMO US but purchased unlocked from Google Store, and installed the "12.0.0 (SQ1D.211205.017, Dec 2021, US carriers)" version.

For what it's worth, if you're using a United States Carrier, then you should be using the US Carrier version. Doesn't matter if you're using a factory unlocked P6P (like mine is) or anything.
