S20+ WiFi issues after android 11 update ? ( exynos ) - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Guys is it just me or the phone is facing some wifi strength issues after latest update to one ui 3.0, android 11 ?
Sudenly phone gets disconnected from the wifi quite often regarldess of am i at home or not, and signal strength is good if i dont walk too much away from the wifi source.
Is any1 else facing similar issues with wifi after this update ?
S20+ exynos version

I am having the exact same issue. I can't even leave my phone on wifi now. Every other device is fine on wifi.

Clear system cache on the boot menu.
Reset network settings.
If that doesn't get it...
Hard wipe and reload, after a major firmware update this is recommended.

I always do this, fortunately for me I just got this phone so not many apps are installed

@devaa01
Same issue with a s20 5g Exynos

Make sure it isn't a 3rd party app messing it up.
Otherwise either a bad download or the the software is buggy.
You can wait to see if Sammy pushes out a fix or take it a Samsung Experience center or send it to Samsung.
It must be quit the terror... that's why I tend not to update. In practice it's been far less trouble for me.

I'm having the same problem with my s20u snapdragon. No luck yet, I guess I'll have to factory reset the phone.

I worked out my bad battery life was due to earlier updates (Sept, Oct) causing 5GHz Wi-Fi issues and random drops. Even with the phone 1.5m from my Ruckus WAP it'd eat battery sitting there doing nothing at a crazy rate. Switching to 2.4GHz has almost completely fixed the battery drain problem for me. Almost, as in fairly close to how the phone was with the July update.
I had a lot of confidence in Samsung's updates after buying the phone in April, each update seemed to improve the phone and the battery life was great. We've owned many Galaxy phones since S3 but always rooted them with some flavour of AOSP ROMs, and this is the first Samsung phone I have not rooted so I was relying on Samsung to regularly update the ROM with improvements. Dumb ...
So I agree with @blackhawk ... no way am I updating to Android 11/One UI 3 for at least 6 months, maybe never. I've downloaded the July firmware in case I get so frustrated I wipe and reload the phone. I'm not a gamer and I don't spend massive amounts of time on the internet so "security updates" might not be that important. I'm an old IT guy and very suspicious/vigilant about what I click on.
If only there was a way to stop the System Update regularly pestering me to install what seems to be a worse update than all the others, judging by the range of comments posted so far.

I hope you mean you're 500mm from the WAP ... half a km is pretty ambitious for Wi-Fi reception!

I use a package blocker to keep AT&T updates from running.
You can also request that they (at least AT&T) don't push you the updates. I did that way for a couple of years.

Tks, I'll check out any package blockers. Telstra in Australia is unlikely to be able to stop sending updates, but I'll enquire.
Do they work for App Updates too?

Damn it ... you're right, kind of. The option is to stop it auto-updating on phone restart, which I have disabled to avoid this.
Thanks for the post as I would have restarted the phone at some point and been really annoyed with A11 being auto installed.

Sometimes manually entering the updater apk name in the blocker will work even though there's no registered check box for it.
If the blocker can't block carrier updates it's worthless to me...

[Q] AT&T galaxy s3 can't check for OTA updates?

Literally every time i check for software updates i get
"Communication failed"
The server is currently unavailable.
Your device will automatically check for an update within the next 48 hours.
Then if i check again it says device is up to date, you can check for updates again in XXhours. If i go into application manager -> AT&T Software Update and clear data, i can check for updates again but i get the same communication failed. I also tried clearing data and rebooting phone, and it still wont check.
And i can't get Samsung Kies running on my windows 7 pc for some reason, so i can't get updates from there either.
Is anyone else on AT&T experiencing these problems? Any fix for this? I really want that update that adds brightness control to the notification menu.

I did not update, but hearing that update would disable local search, add new modem. Nothing about Brightness control
There is no brightness control on ATT update. I was having the same problem you were and exchanged the phone. There is no fix as far as I know for the error you are getting. It is a common issue. Search the annoyances (bugs) thread.
I don't know if the OTA update resolves your issue because they day after I exchanged mine the update came out.

I also haven't been able to get the OTA update. I assumed it was because I rooted and the device is listed as 'modified'. Is the update worth it?
It is in my opinion, and my usage habbits, for the WiFi stability increase that is gained.
Universal search is stripped (searches conducted on phone do not include on device results, ie contacts).
In other words, if you use the Google search by long pressing your menu button the results from your search will only be pulled from the internet.
I rarely use the search built in, so it hardly mattered to me.
Check out the developer forum for ways around the universal strip if you are rooted and want to update.

Well i reseated the SIM card, and removed the little blue tape from the sd slot and the SIM slot, rebooted and still not working.
I wanted to avoid rooting, since the stock software runs so smoothly and i liked being on the latest at&t software. I guess since i can't get OTA updates now theres no reason not to root.
Will this issue be fixed eventually? Or would i be better off exchanging phones while i can?
I'd exchange it. If you have faulty hardware then rooting won't do anything for you.
Peace of mind, if anything, that if you decide to root your phone is functioning as it should from the start.
Others will argue it's software issues.
But, whatever the cause, none of us paid to have a 90% functioning phone from the factory. Go get what you paid for is my take on it.
Good luck.

Well speaking as a software engineer, i'm almost certain its a software issue, most likely with at&t's software update app, or on their servers. Mabey reinstalling the at&t software update application will help?
It sounds reasonable to me. Maybe try the method for No trip flash counter in devoplment? You would be upgrading to the newest firmware and have root and not trip the flash counter. You would still be able to check for ota updates (although should just return the status of your software is up to date since it is a totally stock ROM just with root injected). I imagine that would reinstall the software update service. Although with your knowledge you are way over my head. And whether or not when updating ROMs if that application is reinstalled is something I can't answer.
Maybe just try this first:
Settings> Application Manager> All> AT&T Software Update> Clear Data> Confirm
Power off Phone
Remove battery for at least thirty seconds.
Reinstall battery and power on device.
Try again after device boots up.

I've been having this same problem
I was thinking that its because of AT&T's controlled release of the OTA.
Its been so long since the release, that I can't imagine that's still true. I also agree that its probably a software thing. I have a number of the bloat apps disabled and also wonder if one or more of those would interfere with such a thing.
I'd love to hear about a resolution.

That's an interesting theory, I've disabled some boatware too. Have you tried enabling them? I'm going to try that now.

So, if it's a software issue why is it two identical devices running the same software from the factory yield different results? I.e. my first device would do exactly as your original post outlines, then my replacement device had no issue checking for updates (same stock software, same device form factor).
If you search there are a lot of examples of complaints of this exact issue.
I am also very interested in this because even though there are many complaints out there, the only answers seem to be;
1) who cares this is xda and we update through Odin/cwm etc...
2) replace it.
Good luck, I hope you guys find an answer.

I haven't tried enabling everything. I've tried enabling 'Samsung Push' which seemed like the likely starting point. I've been trying to do some debug on some battery drain things, so I've been hesitant to change too much at once. Also, I can basically only check every 24 hours so its slow going.
As far as the hardware issue, it just doesn't make too much sense that a hardware issue would be causing a problem because the software update would presumably be using the same hardware as the rest of the working smartphone functions. I think the explanation to one device updating and one not is more likely a server device id filtering or a user changing more than 'just the new hardware'.
Its neither here nor there though. Everyone will have there hair brained theories. Why don't we start asking what features will be on the next iphone. Seriously though, apple has to add a removable battery right? (I'm just kidding, please don't spam a million responses about how that will or will not ever happen.)

You can bypass the wait time between checks by going into application managment -> at&t software update and clearing data. Then you can try to update again.

I've had similar issues checking for updates. i gave up and pulled the first update with the USALG1 rom posted in the development forum sticky. I too have several apps disabled (actually moved out of the system/app dir) and was wondering if that possibly caused issues. I never did try updating through kies though.
My kies wont even run on my windows 7 64 bit. There seems to be alot of people having problems with kies on win7 64 bit, nothing from samsung either. So theres really no way for me to get updates
This is How I Got My Phone to Update
I should add that this was my 2nd galaxy s3 to not update. I did a factory reset hoping it would fix the issue. It didn't. I called att customer care for help b/c I was thinking maybe they just set up my account incorrectly when I first got the phone. Nothing else really makes sense. They said they couldn't help and take it to the store. I took it to an att store, and they said they don't actually do any software troubleshooting, so they just exchanged it for a new one. I tried doing the update there, it failed, so I took it home, and I force closed all the update apps, cleared all their data, and it worked as soon as I hit update. If force closing and clearing the data from the att and samsung update apps doesn't help, There may be nothing else you can do except take it in to an att shop.

When you got it to work, exactly what apps did you force close and clear data? Just AT&T software update? Any others?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I force closed the At&T Software Update app and I think the Samsung Push Service. It is really the AT&T software update app that finally started downloading immediately after trying it again.
So I finally attempted the Keis connection and it worked immediately. I don't know what other problems people are having, but when I installed it on my Win7 x64 machine I had the S3 connected. After I ran the software for the first time it mentioned an update and proceeded to update it. Keep fighting the good fight jefferson9.

Verizon - dropping wifi and really bad battery life

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this or not.... But I am experiencing two major problems with my phone:
1) It periodically just drops wifi. I have great signal strength and none of my other devices (and I have a lot) ever behave this way. And I have seen it happen on other wifi spots as well.
2) This one is even worse. I am not able to get more than about 9-10 hours on a charge. Not using the phone *at all*. When I checked what was using the battery power all I saw was normal google stuff, no app itself directly consuming
Mine is a brand new verizon phone.
anyone else experience these? Worth seeing if I can get verizon (or LG) to replace the phone?
Factory reset and if that doesn't work, exchange for sure.

Just an update after disabling VZW apps, 22 hours, 17% battery drain. This is on a non activated phone, WIFI on, minimal use). Not a great metric, but much better than with them enabled.

Application Manager. Scroll over to "ALL" tab. Click on the individual apps. It should have the option to Disable near the top. Those apps will be moved to the Disabled tab if you should ever want to enable them in the future.
I always factory reset after leaving a store because their first priority is to get the phone into a usable state and they bypass the Google login to start syncing my information.
The first thing I install is Nova Launcher. To disable Apps, I just click and drag to the desktop for "system info" then uncheck "Show Notification", click "Force Stop", then "Disable".
I just clear out the crap out the App launcher. I haven't gone in through Settings > App Manager and disabled any services or background apps.
I've also had (and still have WiFi issues). Just got my phone replaced today from T-Mobile and my WiFi has intermittently cut out a couple times today already. Perhaps its something that will require a software update to fix.

If I'm understanding the articles, it is an app so carriers can install Bloatware after your purchase. Even after a factory reset. The good, the bloatware doesn't have to be installed and part of the factory ROM. The bad, everything else...
According to a post on Reddit, the small update on ATT was to fix 5ghz Wi-Fi issues. Hopefully all carriers push it.

On VZW I do not have any issue with WiFi, I do however have not so great battery life. I did disable all the useless items I can. I get about 9-10 hours with 1-1.5 hours SOT. Guess it's OK, but would have liked to get more of what others are reporting (3+ hours SOT).
Coming from the G3 on 23C, I did notice that my battery time did drop a bit, so it's not far off of what I had, not going to return the device, just going to deal with it for now.

I've never had the standby drain since getting this phone and I disabled wifi calling out the box voLTE isn't the issue
Try clearing cache (go to settings>storage>hold on cache and select clear) then reboot and go to recovery and I believe it will say no command so hold volume up and then select clear cache partition and it should fix the issue
Edit: after updates you should manually clear cache always well I do it aha
Cell Standby and Android System is on the top of the list chewing up 50% or more of the battery. I really want to root my phone so I can delete all the samsung crap running in the background but there's not a stable custom kernel now , g.lewarne kernel got bootloop and Arter97 has too much bug since it's in a early stage. I prefered Stock root kernel but after seeing how slow and quiet the forum is, guess it's time to jump ship. If I know Samsung don't release the source for their Exynos I won't be buying this device. I learn the hard way by paying a hefty price for this phone.

I prefered Stock root kernel but after seeing how slow and quiet the forum is, guess it's time to jump ship. If I know Samsung don't release the source for their Exynos I won't be buying this device. I learn the hard way by paying a hefty price for this phone.

Buy package disabler Pro in the play store and disable anything you want!

Like I said T-mobile service in my area suks. I need wifi calling when i'm at home and at work or else I can't make/receive calls. There are some system apps that only root phone can shut it down, and I need Adaway also.

Ahh i see well try everything else but keep wifi calling and try that. download aptoide and download package disabler pro for free, I am using it and it actually does a pretty good job removing bloatware. There is also another method using your computer to remove bloatware , not sure if this is the one but check it out: http://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-remove-bloatware-from-your-android-device-xda-tv/

LG G4 WiFi issues

Good evening all.
Has anyone with a G4 on VZW noticed issues with apps on wifi since the latest firmware update? I've called Verizon and been on the phone with them for HOURS to no avail.
The only time wifi works normally is in safe mode. When I'm on wifi, most apps just aren't functional at all. We thought it was some app in particular so we reset the phone and the issue persists. The only thing tech support suggests is giving me another refurbished G4 which will get us nowhere as the new G4 will just be running the same firmware.
This is problematic for me as I work in and out of different buildings on any given day. These buildings don't always provide the best reception. I clamored with Verizon for a different, comparable phone. I spoke with LG and their solution is me sending the phone in with the turnaround time being 5-7 business day which is also problematic as I don't have another phone to use. Verizon refuses to acknowledge it's an "issue" because it's not "wide spread". A quick search revealed that this problem is not limited to just me.
I've exhausted my options. I do not want to spend hours on the phone with Verizon again. I do not want to speak with LG for the same phone again. I simply want a working phone. This is the 3rd G4 that I've had that does not work. The 3rd G4 in almost as many months. What are my options here?
tl;dr This is my 3rd LG G4 that doesn't work and the latest firmware update broke the wifi functionality. Verizon refuses to acknowledge the issue and will only give me the same phone, not a comparable phone. What are my options?"
Yup. Since the update. Wifi on my phone is lagging horrendously.

Have you tried to contact VZW?
Yes, since the update I don't get any notifications while connected to WiFi. My WiFi is slow anyway, so I haven't noticed any lag that others are reporting.

I spoke with them again today. Their only option is to send the same phone again which isn't going to fix anything unfortunately.
Same problem here (and also with friends who have both VZW and the G4). This exact issue popped up on the LG G3, also after an update. Infuriating that they broke another otherwise good phone. The workaround is to install an app called DNSet. It sets the DNS to Google's, which fixes it.

I am using DNSet but still curious if it really works. I feel mobile data still more responsive...sigh.

I am having the same issues. doesn't matter which Wi-Fi network I'm on, it is terrible. Otherwise I love the phone, but this is getting really frustrating
Yeah I'm having the same issue. It's maddening!! Nothing comes through unless I manually sync or have to open the app to get it to sync. How is this an acceptable software update for verizon - who usually requires a high level of quality control on software updates??
The Update broke Notifications over WiFi. It has something to do with IPv6. Verizon PULLED the update because this is a major problem.
Either call Verizon and have them replace the phone (you will get the older firmware 11A back on it)
OR
The fix is to download DDNS or something (It is a VPN service) that routes ALL internet traffic over IPv4 connections. I forget the specific name, but it is being heavily discussed in the "VERIZON UPDATE" forum in the General section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/update-verizon-t3221673
Read the thread, I think toward the end more.

Give this solution a shot, and what router (make/model) do you have exactly?
You can fix this issue without root by using the app DNSet from the Google Play store. You hit 1 button (the one and only button), and it turns off IPv6, and problem solved.

The new update 3.2.4

Should I or should I not? I heard it has problems with the LTE and stuff.. Is it true?
I haven't had any issues with neither lte signal nor battery life. cannot say about android pay as it is not available in India yet. You can always do a reset after the update and if still face issues then you can flash an older firmware.
I have it ... And i didnt notice a single issue with 4g/LTE.. i use LTE 70% of tthe time
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It does break Android Pay. Says something about having to unroot your device. Mine is not rooted, it's 100% stock. Known issue.
I don't have any problems with 4G and whereever available I use it. On O2 in the UK.
I just noticed battery drain with the 3.2.4 version. In 1h up to 10% - 15% even in standby.

No issues for me with LTE or battery life; I'm in Toronto, Canada. I don't use Android Pay so I cannot comment.
Running OOS 3.2.4 with Ex Kernel, Root and Xposed.
Phone connected to WiFi overnight drain is 0.6% per hour.
i just received my brand new OP3 today and I updated to the latest 3.2.4 and its been working fine for me and again I don`t use android pay.
When you have a look at the file name in the update notification, it seems to be from 6th August 2016.

It was available on August 12th, so it's not that new but still the lastest update as of August 25th, excluding the 3.5 community update.
OP should have asked in the proper thread like this one, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/oxygen-os-3-2-4-released-t3437911.

I've certainly noticed battery drain. I'm barely getting 24 hours out of it now, when I was getting about 36. A friend of mine says the same thing and thinks it's to do with dropping off the Wifi a lot.

subjective question and I assume this thread was started because of the other posts you have read. To be honest there are a few of these and honestly as in most things in life its a crap shoot. People complain about things on here that have never happened to me. So in short update or not update the choice is all yours and asking in here will only confuse you more.
By the way guys the Android Pay issue was a Google thing kinda and the update to Android Pay fixed the ability to pay with your phone. That was done some time last week or earlier than that I believe.
I updated to 3.2.4 last night and Android Pay didn't work for me today. See my update below. It does work .
Edit >>> I think the issue may be on my side due to an updated debit card. Will confirm later whether Google Pay now works for me.
Update >> Yep. It was my card.. Android Pay works fine. And, I'm posting this on a solid LTE full-bar connection. Glad I took the plunge.
Oxygen OS 3.5.0 community build. How can one get it via OTA? Tried using a VPN via Germany to get it but it still isn't out yet. Yet seen a few devices have it. How can I get it ? Thanks.

Well said. Every same model phone differs in behavior with firmware updates. And in every phone forum I have seen a million of the same threads for these same reasons.
Now on to the question:
It is a crapshoot, so the only way to find out is to install. If you don't like it, roll back an update. Oneplus had every firmware they have released on their site. On 3.5 my better isn't as good, but I like the feature set and looks, but had none of the problems others have had on 3.2.4.

making it "RAIN!"
Ever since I've upgraded to 3.2.4 I've had an issue with music playback stopping after a few minutes with the screen locked. I reverted back to the previous OTA but the problem persists. Prior to updating to 3.2.4 I never had this issue with any of the updates.
Any ideas? I don't have any app-killing apps installed.
Thanks.
I personally have no problems with it, battery and reception is great. Got the phone 4 days ago, updated right out of the box then flashed superSU and Xposed.

Indeed. Atleast with Spotify and Soundcloud.
With Spotify, it'll stop after a song. Once the device is unlocked, the next song will immediately begin playing automatically.
With Soundcloud, it'll just completely stop mid-song.
Like I mentioned, I don't have any battery-saving apps installed. Battery saver mode is disabled. Restricted background data is disabled both globally and in app permissions. Really strange...
