Question Trade-in Questions - Google Pixel 6 Pro

UPDATE: I received the trade in box yesterday.
The trade-in box is small and will only fit the phone. I've left the case on the Note 9 for a little extra protection along with the original plastic screen and back protector.
My obsessive behavior to keep every original item wasn't needed this go around since I didn't sell on Swappa. The Samsung Note 9 box and accessories will not be shipped.
I'm will try out the Samsung Dex which I barely used to see it it will offer any value with the P6P.
Thank you all for the feedback.

Original post:
I am doing the Google trade-in for Pixel 6 Pro and have not done a device trade-in before. I am hoping someone can provide some insight.
Q: How honest is the inspection process? I selected "to take the amount they offer" if not in the condition expected. I don't want to get screwed by this...
Q: Do I need to send my excellent condition Note 9 in the original packaging (which I still have)? Or, does this not even matter to the button pushers and screen checkers?
Details:
- $235 is the trade-in amount estimated for Samsung Note 9 512GB. (This is &145 more than Best Buy, and $175 more than Amazon.)
-- I can't unlock, root and TWRP due to v9 firmware. Also, no more One UI updates even though I always used Nova Launcher anyway.
-- I also considered Swappa but decided against it this time - I hate Paypal.
This Note 9 is in excellent condition. No scratches, dings, et al. Always in case and screen protector. It is re-packed in its original box with all original pieces, some not even used.

I am going to take pictures of the device before I send it in...I am also going to be sending it in, in the case I use with it...
I have a OnePlus 7 Pro and they are giving me $150 for it....figuring mine is not the 5g version and i'd be lucky to get $200 for it on Swappa..I'll take the $150 instead.

I wouldn't worry. If you're honest, you'll get what they estimated.

Thanks both!
I took pictures too! I need to take one with the device on and will do so before sending. My trade-in kit shipped today.
Definitely honest. I take great care of my many Android phones over the years For potential re-sell or give-away to friends but this Note 9 is pretty flawless.

Never had issues with their trade-in, as long as you're honest it goes pretty smooth. They will send you a mobile shipping box with a label.

Pictures are a must and the trade-in's are convenient way to upgrade! I'm trading in my OnePlus8Pro and leaving the bootloader unlocked

yeah there was nothing in the questions asking if the phone was rooted or not...it'll be quicker to just send it

Visit Swappa, see what your device in similar condition is going for.
If it's close to what Google is offering, go for the Google trade-in.
My Pixel 5 trade-in through Google was very close to what it's getting on Swappa, so I'm just sending it to Google.

Done! Swappa aligns - in same price range. (Now if OnTrac can just figure out how to deliver the new P6P. LOL)

I have never received anything from TForce that I am aware of.
Unfortunately, OnTrac routinely left packages anywhere they felt like it at the university where I work. e.g. out on public steps at the university, in the bushes next to random buildings, at Central Receiving locked door during Christmas break (big sign = WE ARE CLOSED. DO NOT LEAVE PACKAGES). Public Safety fortunately found 25-30 packages left out / in the rain delivered over the Christmas/NY break).
We contacted our Amazon Business rep and Logistics team and told them to NEVER let OnTrac deliver any of the university's packages again and they complied.
So here's to hoping this wont happen to those with OnTrac delivery!

I'm pretty sure that this is the first time that I wasn't been sent a trade-in return box/label in advance, or asking with the new phone.
Had anyone received their trade-in kit yet?

is it possible to request a trade in after purchasing the P6 from the Google Store?

No, not possible. The same is true with anyplace you get a phone from - you have to request a trade-in at the same time.

If I understood things correctly, the trade-in items (third party) are shipped separately from the Google stuff, and will arrive separately as well.
I believe you'll have 30 days from the time you get your new device to have the trade-in in the mail

Oh, reminding me to Factory Reset! LOL

I forgot about my trade-in kit. Just checked and it hasn't shipped but my phone just shipped today. Hopefully get it this week. "You should receive a prepaid Trade In kit within seven business days." If that's 7 days from "Trade In initiated", they're late. Not really surprising.

@johninsf - I have traded in all my previous Pixels, every time I got a new one. Never had an issue. Waiting for my Pixel 6 Pro and trade in kit to send back my Pixel 5... and I don't expect any issues either. As may have said above, as long as you're honest and ensure the device is reset, screen is good, you should be fine. Once they get the device, the inspection and refund is pretty fast to be honest - at least in previous years.

Lol. Promptly?? That's a joke, right?
They had it up when I ordered on 4/23 and still had it up when I inquired with PayPal on May 3. Also, while I couldn't testify to this, I'm pretty sure I saw it everytime I looked at the device order page between launch and the day I finally ordered it.

I purchased mine on 5/8 from HTC. I took a screen shot of the "12 month no interest" offer because I'd seen some folks complaining it wasn't honored. Sure enough next day PayPal sent an email saying 6 months instead of 12. Called PayPal, they started a ticket. Got the phone last week. Called PayPal Friday and they said a decision was made to honor 12 month offer but they couldn't change it since HTC hadn't yet charged my account. They said call back when it has posted and they'll change my account to honor the 12 month promotion. We'll see, I'll let you know. Also spoke to HTC customer service and my understanding was that PayPal will honor the 12 month offer for purchase after release but not pre-orders.
So silly. If they'd offered 6 month no interest I still would have bought the phone but now it's a matter of principle. HTC seems to have v. good engineering but really poor management.
Contact the Better Business Bureau. HTC and their partners lied to and misled consumers on the payment plans and will not honor the plans people ordered their phones under.

Don't lose hope. You may have to be slightly persistent but they will correct it. I had to request the promotional terms be corrected twice. The first time it was basically ignored (said charge was still pending and couldn't be adjusted until charge had posted, even though I already had phone). The second time, the agent I spoke with actually confirmed herself, while on the phone, that the promotion was in fact live on HTC's merchant site & escalated my request to her supervisor. That second request was placed yesterday, as of today, I am seeing my promotional terms corrected on my PayPal account & it is now showing 12 months interest free with minimum payment.

Thanks. I inquired with them on May 2 and they processed my support request and sent an email saying that they either would or would not change the promotion in my account in the next few days. I guess they decided not to. I'll follow up again.
Funny to spend this much energy on something I really don't even care about, but I guess at this point it's the principle of it/

UH-OH protection sent me a used, scratched up replacement

I just received my replacement for uh-oh protection, and the replacement is a used phone with scratches and marks everywhere. I was told on the phone that I would get a new phone. Did you guys get an old or new phone?

For a screen replacement on my M8, I received a used one with a minor scuff on the side. When I had it replaced under warranty, I received what looked like a new phone.
Not sure if it's different with uh-oh. You can try reading the print on their uh-oh plan to have physical evidence to show them if you were suppose to receive a new device or certified like new. Their live chat support is available in which you can also say that you received a replacement in bad condition to see what happens.
Best of luck.

Agreed with the above. Not sure, as never used Uh-Oh, perhaps other folks can chime in.
But I'd contact them anyway to complain and ask for another device. Even if it isn't a new device from Uh-Oh (which I always thought it was, but again, not sure) -- It still should be up to some sort of a standard. Scratches and marks everywhere simply is wrong. I'd be quite pissed, my OCD would be having a fit, too.
Best of luck, my friend.
It sounds like maybe your phone was accidentally placed in the warranty/repair section because everyone I've heard of that has used UH-OH has gotten a brand new phone in the retail box.
I think they are having fulfilment issues, especially relating to the supply of backs that they have. Were your scratches on the metal body or the screen? I just got an uh oh replacement for my US Unlocked and the one they sent was in great shape, but had the back/body for the sprint version of the device. The software was us unlocked, but the body had the wrong model number (2PS6400). Anyway, I complained and the ticket was escalated but they were not willing to do anything. I finally spoke with an RMA supervisor and when I explained that I wasn't in a hurry for the new device, but I really wanted the correct device as the sprint body will decrease resale value, he said that they were having issues with inventory and that if i truly wasn't in a hurry, then I should send my replacement device back, continue to use my cracked device and open a new ticket in a week or two. So...we'll see how all that works out.
I think most of the time Uh Oh devices are refurbished, but I certainly wouldn't accept one that had a bunch of scratches on it. Good Luck.

Honestly, I don't know what the policy is regarding new/refurbished devices is. I used Uh Oh for both m8 and m9 prior to this and both times i received a mint condition replacement device. I always just assumed that they were refurbished, though. Even the device I just received with the Sprint body was mint condition.
I'm fine with either new or refurbished, but the device should definitely be mint and the same model as your original device.
I had to use uh oh a couple months ago, they sent me what appeared to be a new phone, but the camera was borked. It was a complete headache to get a replacement, but after over 3 weeks of talking, chatting, and blasting htc on Twitter they finally sent me a brand new one. You should definitely get it taken care of asap.
I used uh-oh protection a couple weeks ago, and I got back a brand new (at least as far as I could tell) phone, in a retail box, with all the accessories.
Well they shouldn't have sent you a scratched one but they're perfectly within their rights to send you a used one. It's important to read our warranties folks. Many times they aren't what we think.
From UhOh warranty addendum:

Exert from page 2:
Notice where they say they reserve the right to repair or replace with a "functionally equivalent reconditioned" device and or parts. Also it mentions the device will be in working condition but says nothing of cosmetic condition, but again they should NOT have sent you a scratched one.
They are incompetent

just requested a HTC X and a A9 under the uh-oh plan. I paid a $599.00 deposit x2. It took 8 days to get the X and I am still waiting for the 9. The X they sent me has some real problems. The speakers di not sound the same, not a little bit different but completely different. The sound is not acceptable. The screen produces dingy whites whereas the original X produces nice clean whites. The fingerprint sensor feels like it is a button now... It is NOT an equivalent phone. I am not going to accept it. My X still works and I am not going to surrender it to them for this replacement. I sent my M9 in a year ago and they sent me a phone that was ghost-touching, so I returned it and then they sent me a Verizon phone... I use at&t but the phone still worked, it was just the case that was Verizon. However, now I have the wrong case. I was tired of dealing with them so I let it go. Well, the speaker broke so I called and asked how much to repair the speaker... I then told them about my phone having the wrong case etc... And asked if I could get the correct case while they are repairing the speaker and they said I would have to pay $100. I am not paying for that so I cancelled the while thing.
I am no longer going to by HTC, they are not the only phone with good audio these days. The lg v10 and v20 sound great the ZTE axion is only $400 and sounds amazing
I appreciate everyone's input.
I called in regarding the scratches on the replacement phone. They sent me to the higher division and proceeded to send me another replacement. This time the representative told me that these Uh-oh replacement phones are not new, but they should appear as good as new, that's why I was granted this 2nd ftime replacement. The new replacement came in a retail box with charger and everything. However the "carbon gray" is significantly lighter than the two HTC 10s I had before. The volume buttons are also looser. At this point I am pretty satisfied with the new replacement, even though it is a refurbished phone.
so my advice to those who are or plan to undergo the uh-oh replacement process, make sure you receive a like-new phone instead of a used, scratched-up one, because I believe they do have a batch of these refurbished, like-new ones for replacement.

What's everyone gonna do?

So Verizon told me that they have not heard any plans from Samsung on replacement Note 7's. They basically are telling me right now to go in and pick a replacement device. I'm not buying all that from them. I'm sure Samsung will have replacement devices with fixed batteries. Is everyone gonna stay with a note 7 or bail out and get something else?

I see the info on the site about waiving a restocking fee, but I'm looking to exchange my Note 7 for a new Note 7 that's been cleared of possible battery explosions. Will Verizon send us a message, like hey come on down an exchange that Note 7 with a new Note 7 because we have the new ones in stock? Or is this something we must do on our own, keep calling or going into the store and seeing if they have the new Note 7's in?

This is a great question. I love my Note7 and I don't want to change to a different phone, just exchange it for one that's not going to have the battery issue.

Yup! Same here, I love my Note 7, it's had amazing battery life for me, performance is good, mostly buttery smooth, occasionally a hiccup here and there but nothing serious and I love the overall form factor of the the phone and how it fits in hand, it's great! Love the themes to apply and the ability to change resolution and the always on display. Been using the spen quite a bit, it's very nice! So much refinement, I've enjoyed this phone, just want to exchange it for a new batch that's definitely clear of battery issues (at least that Samsung says is good to go), I realize that most likely nothing would happened to this one but I'd rather get another new Note 7, set that one up and feel like I've done all I could to not have a phone blow up on me, the wife or my lil kiddos. Hope you get a brand new shiny Note 7, free of defects bro. Now we just need to figure out how Verizon will do this....hopefully they somehow notify us when new stock comes in and we can just go into a Verizon store and do an exchange for a brand new Note 7 and transfer what we need and be on our way.

I am a verizon employee, and we have gotten an email from our higher ups stating that we will be exchanging or returning all note 7 devices for the month, unfortunately we are not offering temp devices in the mean time. my best advice for you is wait 2 week until we all get a fresh shipment from samsung and come exchange them.
best of luck on your replacements guys =)

More than likely no they will not update you when the new ones are in. But what I have been hearing through out the day from our updates and our Samsung rep that we may be getting the new shipment in within 2 weeks from the recall date, Samsung is working hard overtime to get these fixed especially since the iPhone is so close to launch.

Okay, I appreciate the information. I guess I'll just keep up on what's going on and try and exchange both Note 7's at Verizon within the next week or two then.

As of now it's optional to trade your device for another phone in that tier.
Will Verizon exchange phones also bought from best buy etc? Reason is. Bestbuy seems to be out of the recall process. I assume we would have to go directly to Samsung?

They may have screwed the pooch with this one. Verizon is extending the return period of the phone including waiving restocking fees and allowing returning of any purchased accessories until the end of the month. iPhone 7 shipments will have commenced before then. So there will be folks jumping ship on the 23rd or thereabouts when orders for iPhone7s commence which is within this return period. Of course depending on supply and demand it may be a month or more before they have them in hand but that's another thing on its own.
I have a 6S+ that was purchased from Apple using their 2 year plan and would eligible to trade in but TBH not sure if I'm going to bother "upgrading" to the 7.
For my Note 7 that doesn't appear to have any issues so far I'll probably just wait this out. No hurry.

General *** READ BEFORE TRADING IN YOUR DEVICE WHEN BUYING PIXEL 6 / 6 PRO ***

This is a simple BUYER BEWARE Public Service Announcement about using Google's TRADE-IN process when buying their device.
I pre-ordered my Pixel 6 Pro early and chose the trade-in route with my Pixel 5.
During the trade-in process I was quoted $405 if my device 1) turned on, 2) wasn't cracked, and 3) was factory reset. My P5 is in mint condition so I sent it in and Google's third party partner handing trade-ins received it November 22nd.
The assessment process is supposed to take 3-5 days. They send you a link to watch the progress of your trade-in. After two weeks of my progress sitting on "Assessing your device" I tried contacting Google customer service.
At least with the trade-in process, Google's customer service is non-existent! After hours and hours of searching and trying to reach a human being, it never happened. Automated Q&A at best, if you make the "right" selections you MIGHT end up with a chat window and a two hour wait (only happened once and it made ZERO difference).
Honestly, once you send in your device for trade-in, you are 100% at their mercy on whether you get a refund or not.
I read where one Xda member said they sent in a Pixel 5 and was told Google received a Pixel 2 XL and was refunded the $40 value of a Pixel 2 XL, instead of the several hundred they were quoted for their Pixel 5. I was skeptical of this claim until I ran into Google's terrible customer service. There is NO recourse, no rebuttal, there is nothing you can do (short of a civil lawsuit) if they claim you sent in a burrito instead of a pristine device!
I waited 43 days, and received 16 emails (each with the canned response "their special team is looking into the issue") before I finally received an answer.
Just yesterday, January 4th, I received the email that I will be refunded $439.
Needless to say I will NEVER, EVER trade-in with Google again. My Pixel 5 in mint condition was only fetching $450-ish on Swappa, so it made sense to go the "easier" Google trade-in route.
I. WILL. NOT. MAKE. THAT. MISTAKE. AGAIN.
Do your research, and make sure you understand ALL the details of Google trade-in BEFORE you send your device to them.
I had a similar issue with OnePlus tradein. I trade in a 'perfect' device (clean, absolutely not a single scratch, etc). Was quoted 320 euro. Sent the device to the trade-in partner. They claimed the device still contained my Google account (despite me having removed the account and factory-reset before I sent it). Zillions of mails and online support chats.
"Don't worry ... it will be solved sir ..."
Every single time had another support guy on mail/chat and had to repeat the same story over and over again.
Yeah right. After 4 months of trying and posting the story daily on OnePlus social media, threatening with legal action, even filing a police complaint, they simply decided to pay me 30 euro and that was the end of the story. After that they simply refused to accept any further mails/chats despite my formal complaint that I did not accept their offer.
No official reaction ever form OnePlus.
At the end, I was so tired of it that I "gave up".
Hearing your story, just wanted to post this here as well.
I don't even know with which obscure trade-in partner I was dealing with. They never wanted to reveal their true identity and kept hiding behind OnePlus despite them handling all online Q&A.
(apologies for slight off-topic)

Sorry you had to go through the dysfunctional world known as Go0gle, but sage advice.
I'm actually on chat with google right now regarding my P4XL trade in for the P6P. It delivered a week ago, but they say "waiting to receive your trade in".
I read a thread yesterday were the poster was complaining about returning his phone and receiving a replacement and the clusterfuc# it had become. I replied and I'll say the same thing here. It's not just Google. Insert any company name and you can tell the same story. In this era of covid and people not wanting to work and supply issues it is just a mess everywhere. We order parts here and they don't arrive, or the wrong one show up and we call customer service and it's a shi$ show every time.

Every email in between said the same thing. I started to feel like my device was lost or stolen and they were just looking for a way to put it back on me.
I think the delivery notification held them to the fire, as it was already in their possession.
Hopefully everything works out for you. Report back here when you get an update.
Hahaha! Just got the first one! I was in the same boat as you.... my P4XL was only worth around $250 or so on Swappa, and after you factor in Paypal, Swappa, shipping, etc. I opted to just trade in for $209 or something. I guess we'll just wait and see. If I would have known it was going to take that long I probably would have just kept it as an extra.

That's what I did with my OP8. It was worth more to me as a backup than what I could sell it for. And personally the last thing I would do is trade it in because of exactly stories like these. I mean I don't want to offend anyone but what were you expecting? To me that course of action had clusterfuc+ written all over it.
Atlest there is a possibility that you might get some money, the trade in solution where i live will pay you 400$ at the top for a brand new iPhone 13 Pro Max, like that is gonna happen.

wait. So you got more than you thought. All you really had to do was wait? That's what it is? So maybe with the omicron virus going around and no doubt affecting employees, as well as their families you should be a little more sensitive and put on the shoes of other people. You got your money, right? who cares that you waited and received a couple of confusing emails. Please understand that there is "real people" on the other end. Although this will undoubtedly piss people off, I am only being real.
I'm really to sorry to hear about that, @Az Biker. The other person you referenced in the OP was eventually successful as well, and received the proper credit, from what I remember.
I'm really glad I always choose to sell our old phones on Swappa, when I don't keep one as a spare. So far - knock on wood - the only negative experience I had on Swappa was buying a used Pixel 1 128 GB that was supposed to be Google Edition for ~$50. It was Verizon Edition, and I could've sent it back for a refund, but there was no way I was going to be able to get a Google Edition for that low, so no real biggee.

Yeah that was a ridiculous reply to a serious issue. How much time, effort and money was wasted on the myriad of contacts needed.
But that aside, I have an alternate reality... er experience. I have never had an issue sending in a device to either Google or Verizon and I've done it countless times be it a defect or a trade-in. Maybe luck of the draw. On my P5 trade I had the money in my account within a week of dropping it off at the PO. I didn't get the 4 bills plus but the quoted amount of $385 I think it was. I also got a beautiful refurb from a tier 2 CSR for a problem that was really not Google's. He was a really nice guy too. But that was before.
On Swappa, OTOH, I sold my mint P4 for a pretty fair price. The buyer bargained me down $60 and I said ah wft and sold it to him. Then I get an email with a telescopic picture of a slight rubbing along 1/8" where the case was. (an alcohol swab would have removed it) Still considered mint for all intents and purposes, I mean this was a gem. He said that rather than going thru a return if I gave him another $70 off he'd keep it. This is after paying for shipping, dropping the price, paying Swappa their fees, Paypal their fees so I reluctantly agreed but I'm sorry to this day that I did that. I believe this was hi MO but I did sort of let it go. Although I swore never again will I sell on Swappa. However, after this fiasco I might rethink keeping the device as a backup or figuring out a way to get it to Google where they can't claim this nonsense. But that's a year away about. Dude that sucks! The hopeless feeling of doing everything right, then realizing you're just a number to them hits hard. That's what I was feeling. I'm like "I've purchased 6 top end smart phones from google and blah blah blah.. " then I realize I by myself am nothing to Google. Not in a militant, entitled bad way, but I'm just a bottom line number in ink.

I waited two weeks, ten business days, before I sent my first email asking what's up. That's patience enough in waiting twice as long as advertised.
If Google is facing greater trade-in times for whatever reason, they should update the 3-5 days stated on their website when you process the trade-in.
Not once did any of their correspondence mention delays related to COVID. This is Google over promising and under delivering. You're welcome to your own opinion.
I did everything I was asked within the time limitations, why should I ask anything different of Google?
Do you for a second think Google would "be patient and understanding" if you had waited 43 days after the trade-in period expired to send in your device? Not a chance.
If you drive through fast food, order a #4 combo, get to the window and they ask you to park in front. Thirty minutes later they bring out your food and say, be glad you got your food at all we've been short staffed for weeks due to COVID...You're fine with that? No, add a note about increased wait times on the menu so I know what I'm getting into BEFORE I commit myself.
BTW, customers are real people too, and instead of receiving a $400 dollar refund real people are charged interest while waiting 43 days for their refund or maybe real people were depending on that refund for other things.
Bottom line, you say I'll get my refund in X amount of time, either hold true to your advertising or update the X amount of time. It's called good business.

I realize in certain circumstances this exists. I moonlight as a mechanic at a local TREK bicycle shop and ordered a 2022 Slash 9.8 GX using my employee discount (20% off a pretty expensive bike). Ordered it in March 2021 received it November 23rd, 2021, as an employee, but customers were getting theirs first, so I get it.
These things are made overseas and shipping backlog, yada yada yada. So I'm not immune to understanding delays. But yeah, the canned "COVID delay" response is being abused way too much!

Yes. Swappa can burn a lot of time and knit-pickers can suck the life out of hoping for humanity, but I've been fortunate with the 4 or 5 devices I've sold on Swappa, and back in the day when turning in devices to VZW for an upgrade I never really had any issues.
What really burned by britches about Google was their canned "we're looking into it" emails. Really felt like I was gonna get the ol' shaft on this transaction, with little to nothing I could do about it either way.

Maybe I was naïve in thinking that Google was big enough to meet their marketing and quoted timeframe. I had never been given a reason to doubt Google in the past with all the transactions I've done through their store. Trust me, I won't be making that mistake again
I'll let you guys decide who is Google and who is the consumer

Unless they come up with a face reader along with a FPR on the P7 which would make it oh.... 10 months? lol

That sucks! I learned when I sold our two Note 10+'s after we received our P6Ps that what I think is Mint is not, but I learned that before my posting was even approved, so I downgraded my listings to "Good". In my case, it was mostly slight damage around the charging port from where relatively blind attempts to plug the USB-C cable in took some trial and error.
Similarly, when I've really taken a good look at the outside of my door locks that were new three years ago, I can really see just much I missed the locks slightly with my keys. I wasn't happy the phones weren't mint - they'd been in OtterBox Defenders with tempered glass screen protectors since day one, but I still got nearly as much as mint models sold for on Swappa.
I also never, ever give a reduced price anymore no matter what. Take it or leave it. Every time I have (for other things in other places than Swappa), I end up regretting it, so I never do on Swappa. Basically, folks asking if they can get any $ off for any reason are just scammers themselves. Sure, there may be a few relatively innocents in there with valid reasons, but I've never been lucky enough to sell to ones like that. Relatively innocent folks don't ask for amounts off the price in my admittedly reasonably limited experience.
I have no idea how many phones I've sold on Swappa as they must only keep records for so long, or they wiped them out at some point because it's only showing the two Note 10+'s I sold a couple of months ago. I know I sold at least two or more other phones previously. I've bought two phones from there too, and as I said before, the only problem I had once was someone listed a Verizon Edition Pixel 1 as if it was a Google Edition, and it was a $50 phone so can't really beat that. It was just a spare phone at the time, anyway.
Now eBay...that's another subject. I'll never sell anything outside the country on eBay again. After years of avoiding it, about 8 years ago I thought what the heck, I'll try it. Scammed. I got my money first but had to lose my ~15-year old eBay account.
I normally don't buy new phones until the old one isn't supported anymore, so by the time I'd sell them they're not worth hardly anything, and I keep them as spares. I should find a way to donate some old phones, and only keep my two favorite (Pixel 1's) as spares.

Now you tell me. Lol. It was a learning experience for sure. I'll take your good advice in the future. I usually keep my devices but these last two I unloaded. I swore off Swappa but with your experiences I think I can safely crawl back. Thanks. But I'm still p'od that I let him get away with that. I should have known better. But it's time to let it go and well.. (smack) I needed that.

General Just FYI - New OnePlus 9 Pro prices shooting upwards at big guy vendors

We noticed last night (Tues 21 Jun 2022) that since last time I looked at prices of new US unlocked 12GB/256GB OnePlus 9 Pro models a couple weeks ago, where most retail places like Best Buy, Amazon etc. who were stocking and selling these at the current retail of $799, have now suddenly started marking these way up.
Last night Best Buy was selling for $1069 and Amazon (direct, not reseller) had also gone way up.
Just posting this in case anybody was looking to get one but maybe had not pulled the trigger yet. Or maybe a spare you wanted but were going to wait - this was our situation. We wanted to have a 3rd as a spare in case something happens to one of our phones.
Well I am sure there are any number of reasons why prices are suddenly going north on these. Not much being shipped from China lately for example, and market responding with fear and greed. Or maybe (conjecture not calling this fact) it is just official now to those in the know that they are not going to be making any more and so the market is reacting to knowledge that whatever is out there is all there is going to be.
In any case, if you were looking to get a(nother?) OnePlus 9 Pro unlocked US 12GB/256GB, you may want to bump up your timetable so you don't get totally gouged.
If you are careful looking around at Amazon you can find combo deals that let you still get one for just over the original $799 retail price, for example if you buy with a set of pro buds.
Anyway, snagged up our spare to have on hand last night. Would really hate to have to buy a 10 Pro if something happened to one of our 9 Pro's.
I bought an Open-box 12/256 OPO 9 Pro off Ebay for $704 shipped 2 weeks ago. Phone looks and performs flawlessly and have been very happy with it so far (even with C48). Just throwing it out there in case people are OK with not buying new.
Glad you found one at a price you are happy with.
I looked briefly on eBay for new ones a few weeks ago the lowest priced d00d I found with new Morning Mist ones was asking (pretty sure) $1199 for them and was not open to budging on price, even buying two of them.
So I shrugged and went to a local Best Buy who had 2 Pine Green in stock for retail price ($799). We've covered phones up with non-clear cases and will be covering camera eyes areas with protectors too when we put the Whitestone domes on, so who cares if they're green under the covers?
Amazon had both colors in stock last night...
Will have to disable/uninstall/burninate the Alexa crapware on the spare if/when we need it (break seal only in case of emergency) but we run LOS anyway.
Cheers!

The retail is not $799, it's $1069. Sounds like the sales are just coming to an end to me.
OK. Yeah, well not sure what the "official" retail price was on these a few weeks ago, my statement of $799 was what they were (and still ARE) listed at OnePlus website for, although they are out of stock there unless you are OK with buying a T-Mobile carrier-locked one (no thanks...). They WERE 799 at Amazon and Best Lie 3-4 weeks ago when we bought our first two. Now they're not.
Retail price... street price... whatever.
But yea, whole reason I posted this was for anyone who was thinking of buying (another?) one - in hopes it helps some friendly peeps here get one before they are gone, or before you have to pay $1800 for one as I saw some resellers listing them for last night...
Because gougers gonna' gouge... and when even the BIG guys are doin' it, well, it just goes downhill from there...
Word to the wise... thats all.

I can buy OnePlus 9 Pro with less than 400 Euro from sales forums in my country. People sell the phone from different reasons:
- because they received as (bad) gift:
- Pixel, Samsung or icreap users:
- don't like Onepllus phones / OxygenOS.
- they have other phone and they got used to it.
- the need of money.
For example, i bought a brand new OnePlus 10 Pro, 8/128gb, black, full box with 600 euro.
Yep, understood.
Personally, this is the first model of android I have purchased myself brand new (vs. it being issued to me by the peanut dispenser/employer) that had a non-replaceable battery. I am not sure yet with my degree/level of experience on non-replaceable battery phones what the long-term effect/life/use pattern is, so just speaking for me, it's one of the reasons I've restricted myself to buying brand new sealed box vs. used, although I do know used can be lot cheaper.
Also a lesson I learned with 1st OnePlus 9 Pro I got from Amazon the other day is, just because it is brand new in factory sealed box does not necessarily mean defect-free. It had some kind of ding/pit/blemish around the edge of the metal frame on front, right where the glass meets the frame, which I was concerned about affecting fit of the case and/or glass screen protector, so I had to get a replacement sent.
FWIW both OnePlus 9 Pro's I got from Amazon (.com, not 3rd-party reseller) had mfg date on box sticker of June 2021. And battery on the 2nd one was just about dead (8% remaining) when I opened it up. The 2 originals we bought from Best Lie were at 21% remaining and had Oct 2021 mfg date on box sticker.
I never started up/checked battery on the first one I got from amazon. That ding on the frame was a show stopper for me...
