A root question - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Well hey there. I do not know what I did,. But I was planning around. Service mode. Trying this and that. And when I rebooted. I was using Samsung Android info tool. And it said root access was possible. And there was a root she'll running. I smoked a little touch green,. But had to do a . Real strange. But I kept. Sinking around. And. Undid what I did.
Any thought would be great.

What is the issue here? Kind of vague...

helpp!!??

Hello guys. I'd like to start by saying I'm familiar with phones to a certain degree. I'm not completely lost. I'm coming from an iPhone. I had my 3g for about 2 years Nd was very happy with it. Was a snap to jailbreak and the info was easy to find. Not to mention the community was great. Needless to say I've now upgraded to the Evo so I'm now here. I've been searching these forums and YouTube like mad trying to figure this phone out. There are so many options and different options on here. I'm so lost right now. Everytime I find a thread which seems like its the answer it ends up being the answer to another application and not mine. When I first got the phone I used the unrevoked method for rooting. I'm guessing that's the equivalent to jailbreaking on the iPhone. Now all was well, I use the tethering at work with my laptop. The new update came out promising better battery life. I searched for how to retain my root and also be able to update. The answer seemed to be the new version of the unrevoked. Version 3 I believe. I did the ota update then tried to use unrevoked 3.1. It didn't work for me. I haven't been able to tether for like 3 weeks now. I don't know where I am or where I should be at this point. I wish this android stuff was more straight forward for new people. I want to know what should I be doing right now. Am I assed out temporarily or is there a way to get my root back? Greatly appreciate the help. I'm sure there are other people lost in this huge forum.
I completely agree. I have spent the past 2 hours trying to figure out this stupid OTA simpleroot thing and I still don't have root. This community is probably the most unorganized thing I have ever seen in my life hands down. Jailbreaking an iPhone needed 1 app that took 30 seconds. This thing needs 50000000 links to 10000 different things to install and configure just to change a theme....
Did this work?

Give it some time, your going from absolute control to open source. There is much more that can be done, it takes time to adjust from one major system to the other. Read threads take your time. Playing with the phone is often the best training one can have.
Thanks for the prompt responce silkyt but that didnt work either. I watched the video and the thing that were happening on the phone in the video wasnt happening on mine. i have htfc sync and the netframework 4 installed. Phopne rebooted once and was still in the same state. This is an example of a thread I mightr have come across that seema to be an answer for me but really wasnt. I'm not clear on am i stuck with this update until the hacking community finds an answer or is there something i'm missing? build is 1.47.651.1 firmware is 2.1 and baseband is 2.05.00.06.10

1.) Go back to iPhone?
2.) Don't root your phone?
3.) Figure it out your self and ask for help in the appropriate fourm/thread? Instead of whining and saying that the community sucks and the simple root sucks...
Oh and just for a little addition, even a Jailbroken iPhone couldn't do a tenth of what the Evo can do once rooted.

I completely agree. You should leave. First post, isn't a question, isn't help, it's a "THIS PLACE SUCKS" post. Please leave, return your android and go back to your iPhone. You're comparing a bicycle to a car and wonder why it's more complicated. The phone has been out for just over a month with 2 over-the-air updates already. The 1-click iPhone Jailbreak wasn't out this fast for the first iPhone, and you complain? Get a life.

So you've got stock 1.47.651.1 without root. When you boot the phone while holding the volume down button, do you have the option to enter Recovery? If you do, then enter recovery and see what version it is. If you come up to a screen with an exclamation point or a box, then you don't have a recovery installed. If you've got a bunch of options to scroll through with the volume buttons, then you've got one installed and are already rooted, all you would need to do is install a ROM.
Now, while you're in there, check what version of HBoot you have (it's at the top of the menu that comes up while holding the volume down button.)
If it's version 0.79.0000 then you could follow this thread, and then this one to regain root. Granted, they aren't "1-click" methods, but they are pretty easy if you take the time, and you'll be much more educated to fix problems in the future.
If you have version 0.76.2000, then you can just follow the second thread back to root.
Also, this belongs in Q&A in the future, not General.
Thanks for the help. It's a little overwhelming to be a new android user. I like that there are alot of options in terms of how you want your phone to work. I like that there are a verity of roms for different users. I have hboot 0.79.0000 and the recovery option takes me to the screen with the exclamation mark. Gonna check those threads you mentioned and hopefully be on my way to understanding this new os. I'll let you know if it works. Whats an adb by the way?
ADB = Android Debug Bridge and is basically a commandline to your phone

Oh no don't be rude! The people that are giving responses like this are considered evil, mean, disrespectful and even hurtful
Hey OP did you check this out - http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/htc-evo-how-tos/

Phone back on and off??????

ok recently when im using my evo, and i do some multitasking, the freaking phone keeps turning off and restarts itself, at the beggining i thought ok maybe it frost or something, but now every other day im using it and im in the internet and facebook and other apps, it freezes for a bit and restarts itself. which is annnnoyyyying me cuz i loose everything i was doinggggg....ANY SOLUTIONS WHATS THE PROBLEM, IS IT THE PHONE???
Are u rooted.... if u are have u tried other roms with multiple wipes before the flash? Also my old evo did that after i rooted it and i could not find a fix but luckily i broke the screen an got a new one that dosent have that issue!
i forgot to ask are u saying a full reboot or just to the boot screen?
My first guess would be that you deleted something that the system needs to run. I believe you cannot delete friendstream, calender, etc some stupid apps that you might believe are completely useless but somehow HTC integrated them into the system as necessary system files.
Also did you fiddle with your SetCPU or kernals? Using setcpu to alter your CPU frequency can result in system crashes and different kernals have different set vcores. If the vcore is too low for your chip it does not have enough juice to operate properly and therefore crashes.
If you are stock then I'm not sure what it could be...
no this phone is not rooted (itz cuz i dont know how too lol), and its exactly how it came when i first got it,
the only things im running is
launcher pro plus as my default launcher. and just normal widgets like fancy widget and custom icons nothing major.
everything works perfect, but it keeps restart itself after a do alot of multitasking, cuz usually a app will get the "Force close" when its not working but for me it just freezes and restart itself , it goes to the "Sprint logo & 4g start up" just like how it would do when you first start your phone, the only thing is doesnt do is that it doesnt shot the HTC EVO 4G IN THE BEGGINING, JUST THE SPRINT AND 4G LOGO, than everything reloads itself on the screen.
and it was like this before u switched to the new launcher?
Interesting... Have you scanned your phone for any malware? Perhaps there is something there that should not be.
Here is what I would do:
Factory reset and run the phone stock without any apps for a day. If you still have issues - switch phones ASAP.
If you do not have issues after the reset, start installing one app at a time till you find the one that is buggy.
Hope this helps.

yes, i install and uninstall the launcher and did a factory reset to the phone and it still the same way.. just seeing if other ppl have had this problem, if its the phone itself or the sprint service connection.
I'm really surprised your phone is not rooted. I was going to guess you were OC'd just a little too high. My Dad had similar problems with his unrooted EVO before the 2.2 update. I never narrowed it down but I think it was a problem with Beautiful Widgets. I loaded a bunch of non-root apps on his phone (LP, handcent, BW, etc.), trying to set him up, and he was plagued with reboots so he wiped it all and went back to 100% stock. I still can't convince him to root.

Its a combination of things really.
1) HTC is not known for having the best build quality. Motorola, for example, is light years ahead.
2) The Android marketplace is not regulated like the Appstore. You will frequently get force closed apps because 1) Apps are regulated by the devs, not Google and 2) there is just a huge abundance of Android phones with many differences between them.
Your phone should not be resetting itself. A force close is different than a reboot. I would call HTC/Sprint and ask for a different phone. Might want to add the fact that none of your friends Evos do this so it is singled out to yours specifically.
thanks, i might just do that but all sprint ever freaking does is that they gonna do a reset of the phone and i already did that, I KNOW WHAT IM DOING WITH MY PHONE,
and it would be nice to learn how to root, cuz i been thinking of doing for a whileeee after 2.2 update...and see if i can fix this problem.

My 2 cents:
Don't root with a problem already present. 99% of the members here will not be able to help you with any of the issues you might run into. Only the developers will be able to help with real issues. That being said, since you already have a problem the worst thing you can do is void your warranty by rooting.

This is not accurate..
80% of the members here ARE able to help, but 90% of those members will choose not to if you are rude and disrespectful like some other people choose to be.
Rooting your phone may very well fix your problems.
It may not help at all, but many of the roms available are far more stable than stock.
Uninstall all of your non-stock apps and see if the problem persists. If it does not then you know it was a software problem and you can either take the plunge and root and go from there, or reinstall your apps one by one and see when you start having problems again. If you uninstall all non-stock apps and you still have issues then you may have a hardware problem in which case you should try to get your ohone replaced especially if you are still in your 30 days.
Keep in mind that even if you root and technically void your warranty a) your warranty being void is at the discretion of the CS rep you talk to and b) rooting does NOT void your insurance and your insurance covers manufacturing defects at no cost to you.
Try to learn some basic troubleshooting habits and avoid things like: homophobic comments, advising members to kill themselves, excessive swearing, calling people trolls when you are clearly being a troll yourself, and you will get all the advice you ask for.
Unrevoked has been pulled temporarily for some bugfixing so rooting 2.2 is actually not possible right now until they re-release it, or you find a copy of Unrevoked 3 somewhere (which is a bad idea, only use an official copy made available by the Unrevoked team) so take some time to read up, ask questions and understand some of the fundamentals of what you are getting into before you do something like break your wifi and not realize it's an easy fix then come on here and freak out.
Rooting is intimidating before you do it the first few times, but if you follow the guides to the letter and stay calm you'll be just fine. Just don't forget the staying calm part. There isn't much you can do to your phone that is irreversible, it's just a matter of preparing for potential problems and knowing what steps to take to recover from them.
If you are remotely inclined to learn how to root your phone then do it!! But only if you have enough time to devote to what will soon become your new hobby/obsession, it's that much fun

Look in a mirror.
No offense, but why is this still an issue? If OP did a factory reset, which is assumed to bring the phone back to a clean stock, and this problem still persists then the obvious solution would be to get a replacement. Yes, a replacement could take some time to arrive, but if this is a hardware issue, any amount of troubleshooting on the software side wouldn't matter. Then again, maybe you have a faulty micro-sd card and could be simple as swapping for a new one. Anyways, if you did a MSL/factory reset to a clean slate and your phone still intermittenly reboots, go get a new one. Good luck.

Agreed! Refrain from rooting because that will void your warranty.

I think what he meant was weather or not this still happens without installing launcherpro at all, when you're just running the default launcher. Also, does it still happen if you remove/uninstall all of your widgets/apps? If yes, and this still happens with no widgets running, and no apps installed, you may want to talk to Sprint about an exchange.

[Q] Issues with S3 Hotspot

Hi everyone,
First of all, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for being such a great resource in the past. I have performed many roots via guides on here.
My real question, I was super excited to get KitKat and immediately accepted the AT&T Software Update...2 hours later I realized that my Portable WIFI Hotspot app was no longer functional due to the upgraded OS. I figured a factory reset would be fine since it wasnt KitKat when it first came to me, sadly it wasn't.
Does anyone have any advice for a work around? I have unlimited data with AT&T right now and do not wish to sacrafice that for hotspot services but it is a very convienent feature to have when I am on the go. I've thought of rooting, reverting (which didn't work), and search hours in the app store testing different ones.
Any and all advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance guys and gals!:good:
There is no way around it without rooting, until they create another app, unless there is one that I don't know about. You need a modified framework file in the system directory, which cannot be accessed without root permissions. I'm guessing that you were using foxfi, like so many others around here. I might be wrong.
And next time, please do some research before accepting these toys, I mean OTAs. (I keep calling them toys, because the only reason I see why we so quickly rush to these OTAs is to play with them.) There is plenty of useful information here at XDA for you. Don't just look to fix your problem and then run. Some of the purposes of OTAs are to prevent rooting and block tethering (Foxfi has been broken a couple of times). When you do some more reading, you will see all of the problems that many are having around here after jumping to play with this new toy, I mean update, without waiting or doing enough research.
Personally, one of the best things I have done with my phone is not accepting this latest OTA.
ya, I completely regret not doing my usual research. I thought I read somewhere that you cant root this current version as well. If you can root, if someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it, if not I can take a look around after work
The app was Portable WIFI Hotspot
Here you go if you need to root. It's in the general section.

[Q] NEED HELP!!! apache has ruined me

I recently read a post, I don't know where now, but it had to do with a hidden Trojan/malware. That was started in 2013... After reading, thinking back to when this really started affecting me Feb,26, 2015. I noticed some strange things mentioned in my service log from around that date. The post mentioned how it places a high tracker in some obscure app. Unfortunately I got the bug, BAD!!! So not knowing about this until I made it worse by plugging my phone into my computer... I'm sure you can figure out the rest. My everything is screwed now. My HTC one m7, is the only device I can use period, now. I tried to root, and couldn't. Then downloaded another root checker, and it said my device was already rooted. Is there anything I can do(on my knees begging). This has to be the worst inter-web experience ever. Any and all ideas, advice, similar problems, links, and time are greatly appreciated. Thank you

My phone is the only thing I can use... I have to install Windows again on my lap top... I have a new disc and what not. I'm just worried that he'll just take that over as well.. so phone, but I could use some tips in how to do it for the pc as well and if I'll ever be able to get my email. With my last ten years if web activity, Xbox one and everything else I had.... So pissed
for the phone, i recommend an ruu. in case that bug is somewhere on the phone waiting for another PC victim. It sucks that you will lose everything but its hard to figure out what file is infected and if you restore any file after format you run the chance of it happening again
as for the pc. if you can reboot to safe mode you can use a tool called Combofix. it will sometimes fix problems due to worms or viruses. I've used it many of times i cant fix it manually.

Someone please help!!!

I deleted some texts from my phone by accident and it is of great importance for me to retrieve them. I've heard the way that Samsung phones work is that even though the texts are deleted, they are stored on the phone in a dormant memory and are only "recorded" over once the phone runs out of other free memory. My phone is no where near that threshold of running out of memory, so I know they are still there. So I tried to root the phone myself using some site I think was called (Kong or konga or something like that) and it did not work. Does anyone out there know how to help me? I really really need those messages back.
Thank you.

I know rooting alone won't help me, but its a starting point. And I paid for some software that should work if the phone is properly rooted.... However, if you have another way to retrieve those messages, I'm all ears! Any help is greatly appreciated, trust me. Lets put it this way... If someone can help me get these messages back, I'd have no problem sending them a gift as a thank you. (thats how important this is to me)

Did you try the application that I linked in the first line? You install on your PC and plug in your phone. There is a free-to-try version so that you can test without risk.
Post back here what happens.
This is so frustrating.
So this is the app I tried first before I even came to this forum. I even paid for the full version and it won't work. I could be a complete idiot, but I literally tried it for 3 hours one night, and then another 3 hours on another night. I'm literally having ZERO luck when it comes to this issue. I did this program, it tells me it failed to root the phone. Then I download another program to root the phone and then that program tells me that "root failed". So I feel like I'm f'ed no matter what I do. Advice???
