Question Google Play Services FC and battery drain - OnePlus 9 Pro

Since today I'm getting constant Google Play Services FC and huge battery drain and also phone overheat because of Google Services.
Anybody else? I'm on 12.2.6.6 EU. Phone is almost unusable now.

It's apparently caused by recent Google app update. Reverted to factory version and now it's fine.
Can anybody confirm issue?

There was some google services error from google side....

Yes, confirm on 9 Pro this morning. I revert it and everything is ok now.

Strange, updated back after revert and it's fine now. Maybe we need to clear cache/data. But it's some kind of bug at Google's side. Many reports in Google Play store

Also safetynet is failing right now

No, safetynet passed. You must be rooted

Hi, I just thought I'd share this with y'all if y'all haven't seen it before. Check & double check please, because it's been a while since I last checked into the play service drain issue. Anyway I was just hoping this might could help someone and props & many thx to the dev gloeyisk.

I am rooted. Everything was just fine until today's google issues

Ok. So you will probably need to wait for Msgisk Hide update. Non rooted devices are fine.

[Q] Google Services - huge data usage

Hi all,
This morning I received a notification from my provider , that I have used all the data within my bundle.
I started investigated what was using this because normally I use about 20% of the entire bundle.
I found out that google services used 400 mb within 2 weeks time !
After searching some time I found some older threats pointing out this was due to a android update.
I immediately thought of the release of 4.3
I made some logging with logcat, and the log shows the data is indeed used to download the OTA update.
I am running an AOSP rom 4.2.2 RasSaber.
But this rom does not have an option whether to check for OTA updates or not.
Can anybody tell me how to stop this OTA from being tried to download over and over?
Everytime my phone gets restarted, it tries to download again.
Code:

Bump.
This has started happening to me too. I'm running cm10.1 20130706 nightly. I've seen this happening to people using the nexus 4 and other custom ROMs.
Has this issue been fixed yet in a newer nightly?
same here
having the same problem.
It uses up all my mobile data. 500MB.
I am running liquidsmooth in Nexus 4.
I love android. But This is really pushing me to iPhone.
same thing for me with aokp ... as a workaround i restricted "google services" in mobile-networks. But this has of course downsides.
Isn´t there anything to prevent the download from happening again and again ?
Same here Google services has used 0.9GB in 2 days. Same as the OP I was informed by my supplier. Bit worrying and is there a fix?
Guys I am facing such extremely annoying Google Services (DownloadManager in BBS) battery drain + mobile/wifi data usage issue and I have been searching for some hours.
First of all I have tried the most answered solution - clearing the data of all those stuffs related to Google Services - well it did not work so well.
Then I don't think freezing download manager / factory reset / restrict background data / disabling google services framework are good solutions as I myself did not make changes related to this recently so a factory reset should not be needed, plus the other mentioned solutions would cause syncing issues with Google and this doesn't suit my lifestyle of heavily depending on various google services.
Many of you have proposed that the massive download / repeated downloads are related to downloading the 4.3 OTA and that might be possible according to the similar file sizes as well as logcats you have found. But on the other hand one of the solution - disabling Network Locations settings has also stopped the "download" triangle from constantly staying there when my wifi is on. Therefore we can conclude that it is partially related to the 4.3 OTA download which cannot be disabled on our custom ROMs, as well as partially about the stock Network Location settings.
Fortunately after many posts that do not provide a feasible answer I have found this xda post which addresses the issue related to the Google Play Store 4.1.6. Some of the users have reported that 4.1.10 has fixed the issue and some even said the newest version 4.2.9 is over the internet since 25/7 together with 4.3 update.
Not sure why such critical update did not roll out to the unluckily bunch of us from Google, but I have found the Android Police source about 4.1.10 fixing the "Network Location bug which hogs the battery" and hopefully this will stop the DownloadManager wakelock as well as the crazy battery drain + data drain by Google Services.
I haven't tested this thoroughly because I will probably need a day to check out whether it stops the crazy behaviour but I would just like to share with you guys my founding as soon as possible so you guys can try it out together with me. The latest Google Play Store 4.2.9 apk can be downloaded from Android Police here.
Hope I have helped! Good luck to you and me!
will give that a try .. however i have my doubts that new play store will prevent the phone from downloading OTA.
And actually I wonder why our fantastic Custom-ROMs have not disabled this (OTA-check etc..).
I have had the same exact problem yesterday, I am on a pre paid plan and the stupid thing used all my credit by downloading 112mb (I'm sure it would use more the instant I add credit) but it does nothing on wifi. If it is indeed an OTA issue with 4.3 the only fix maybe to flash android 4.3 to stop the OTA from downloading said 4.3? Just a thought. I will try it now as I have free time and will let you guys know if it works. It really is a stupid problem to have.
I am on Slim ROM, I thought the OTA service was not included in most of the custom ROM's so it won't look for an update, how come it is doing it anyway?
I have the same problem, over 1.5gigs downloaded in 2 days.
Used up all my mobile data and uses my wireless at home!
btw I'm using Nexus 4
Well this is new, Download Manager just started using my Wifi used about 50mb (it would be more but I only noticed the wifi being used and installed the app) so maybe around 80mb. I've attached 2 images, if anyone can figure out what's going on or get in contact with google somehow and let them know what's going on. I don't want to add anymore credit to my account because I fear it will just be wasting money.
I'm going to flash 4.3 now and see what happens. Will update asap cause this is ridiculous.
UPDATE: Flashed 4.3 and got rid of all the google bloat (maps, earth, hangouts etc) cleared cache and dalvik cache in recovery. Sent $10 credit to my phone and so far all is well, Google services only used 14kb so far (this is on mobile data) I will continue to use mobile data for the rest of the day and weekend to see what happens. So far it works:
So flash 4.3 and it seems the update is no longer pushing or pulling from the servers.
UPDATE 2: About 5 hours in and Google services are not going crazy as before. It really could be an OTA update issue, I should have tried the play store update mentioned by Miasmic but I was so frustrated I just flashed. If someone can try and confirm Miasmic's method we could all save other people from this trouble.
This still sucks and google owes me $20 US, how an update was being pulled from Slim ROM I have no clue.
So in conclusion flashing/updating to android 4.3 cured my problem. Hope it helps someone else who has these troubles, or at least you can cut your data being used up before you reach a cap or lose all your credit like me.

Thanks for the constant updates! I myself have confirmed that updating the play store does not work. Finally I copied the old good FOTAkill.apk from gingerbread times to /system/apps and it stopped all the google services data hogs. However seems like my Hangouts app is not receiving messages since then.
I am also planning to upgrade to 4.3 as soon as I got the time. Sigh Google, what a cool way to **** up all of us custom roms users.
Here's how to disable the OTA download on any ROM
Install Autorun Manager from the Play store.
Then enter its recommended advanced mode.
Go into the settings and enable the following: system entries and system app disable.
Disable com.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Recieve r under Google Service Framework
It would be great if the OP could be updated with this
@joshuab227,
I did this but... Can it be that this fix also disables app updating in the play store?
A bunch of free apps was updated, but the play store didn't showed them as.
I couldn't update my apps to new versions via the official/original play store.

I don't think it disables play store updates.
I still have pending updates showing in my play store for a few apps I have chosen not to update (maps and talk) after disabling the system update service
EDIT : Just double checked if play store is still updating correctly by uninstalling my Skype and restoring an older version from titanium backup.
The update for Skype showed up immediately when I viewed my apps in the play store.

FOTA kill prevent any OTA from downloading to your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30205683
Hi, just wanted to check in and confirm that I do have the same issue. I'm on AOKP 4.2.2, maybe it is an AOKP issue, that they didn't disable the OTA functionality completely?
I remember when 4.2.x or even 4.1 was rolling out, I had the same issue, also on AOKP rom.
I had to switch to stock 4.2/4.1 until AOKP released their update.
It's really annoying though.. I'll raise a bug for AOKP.
So only solutions is disabeling the receiver or installign FOTAkill.apk?
What does FOTAkill.apk disable? only the OTA or also other Google Services?
I cannot tell for sure that it is only blocking OTA updates because I have not seen the code.
But my auto upload of pictures to google+ is still working.
I haven't experienced any other stuff not working anymore.
Only thing is that it stopped downloading that OTA every time my phone rebooted
Thats a good test when you want to make sure you don't have the issue anymore ....

Android Auto Glitches on Mi max Global 8.2.1

I use the Android Auto app all the time in the car. And usually (in the past) "ok google" commands work great.
But now, on my Mi max, Google tells me to unlock the phone before using voice commands.....but the thing is, it IS unlocked (android Auto is open, and the screen is ON).
Any ideas??
thanks in advance.
Btw....I love this phone.
In an update, I have sorted out the problem. All I did was update Google Play services and now everything seems to be working fine. Just thought I'd share the solution.
Hi..
Which Google Play services are you running?
I have this problem and Im running the latest version of Google Play and Android Auto on MIUI 8.2.2 but im still having this issue
Thanks

Getting about 6hours SOT. Also, after clearing both Play Store and Play Services cache/data, and rebooting, I now have a certified device and was able to re-add my debit card to Google Pay.
Playstore uncertified is fixed now! Google fixed it today!
Google Playstore uncertified issue with Beta3 is now fixed. Just clear data of Playservices and Playstore and reboot. You will then have Certified PlayStore!
Is anybody's fast Charging not working after this update? Worked before. Not rooted

Cool
Unrooted -
Google Pay works fine for me.
App suggestions now show in the app drawer. Also weather now shows on the lock screen (didn't show for me in previous beta - just had a blank space)
None of my apps crash and everything works fine.
Not the best battery life still (but that's more for my device being nearly 2 yrs old and being used heavily rather than any software issue).
How are you guys clearing cache for play store??mine says unidentified

Google has stopped

"Google has stopped" messages are driving me mad, had it for quite a while and assumed a fix would roll out as I report it every time.
Have tried Force Stop and clear cache and data on every Google app I can find, including Chrome.
One of the solutions I saw online was a factory reset, but rather try everything else first.
Anyone had the same and resolved it without a factory reset?
Redmi Note 5 Pro, not rooted, running Android 8.1 and Miui 9.6

Same phone same issue, just drive 200 miles with the pop up coming up every 15 minutes on sat Nov, very annoying!
Also noticed "ok Google" isn't working via voice command anymore
Yep, can overlook pop-ups while it's in my hands, but car cradle and Waze is a real ball ache.
I don't use Ok Google.
What have you tried to fix it?

Fwiw was working fine the other day and nothing major had been updated, infact the only updates were Google drive and calender two days ago so not sure what's caused it.
Same issue here after updating to MIUI 9.6
I've been having the exact same error ever since I updated to Android Oreo a few days ago but on a Redmi 5 Plus device :/
same issue
only i haven't done any update as I was running on mobile data only. reported to miui but they want additional information because they cannot reproduce the issue
Excluding Google app from battery saving should solve this issue, at least for me it worked!

Just exclude from battery saving.
I don't use that app and my Battery Saving mode is off above 60%.
Just got another Google has stopped as I type and charge on 96%, so I don't know whats causing this.
Uninstall the updates to Google app. Something is causing this, I was getting this on Pixel Experience 8.1 as well, until I rolled back to prior version. Same for Android Messages, screen would just flicker black and would not open app properly until i rolled back to previous app version.

Play Store Crashing

Has anyone started experiencing this within the last few days? I generally know my way around Android, and I've tried several troubleshooting steps, which I'll outline below, but to no avail. It's random, but persistent, with no recent updates to the system.
•Tried clearing phone cache from bootloader.
•Tried force-closing Play Store + Play Services, and clearing cache for both.
•Tried booting to safe mode, it still happens.
•The only recent app I've installed is for a Ravpower portable filehub/router. Note: no crashing occurred after this app was installed.
•Tried removing all updates for both aforementioned apps, and allowing them to reinstall the current version.
•Tried installing and running 2 different apps that provide analysis on version and other potential conflicts for Play Store/Services, ran all applicable items.
The obvious statement to make is that I'm hoping to avoid a factory reset. I loathe all the work after restoring what's available between Google and Samsung backups. If anyone has any pro tips, please enlighten me!
Edit: this is the 5G variant, carrier is AT&T, and firmware is N976USQS2BTE3.

I am running the most recent store, and all is fine, something else must be the issue
I figured it out. It was a rogue app trying to auto update over wifi while I was on mobile data but the play store wouldn't let me see what app it was.
Good to see you found the cause, btw, which app caused the trouble? Just to be aware of it
Circling back to this. The issue has returned for me, and having already gone through the painstaking process of resetting my phone, and reinstalling everything, I have two theories but can really only test one of them reliably:
1. VPN - I use ExpressVPN, and I noticed that sometimes the Play Store crashes in a never ending fashion and sometimes I can go hours or more without it happening. This could be due to my VPN preventing some kind of connection, maybe? Despite the fact that the Play Store opens fine, and will even allow me to scan for updates and begin to apply them if I'm quick enough before it crashes. *I'm testing this theory now by trying different tunnels within ExpressVPN*
2. An application. Without divulging more than I care to, I definitely have apps that can't be found in the Play Store. They're plenty safe, but I could see there potentially being conflict there somehow in terms of Play Store maybe trying to reconcile them when it's compiling apps. This would be almost impossible to troubleshoot without uninstalling all non-Play Store apps, then reinstalling one by one, waiting several hours, then repeating the process until an app is installed that once again causes Play Store to crash.
Another update: among the items I've tried this morning, I can effectively eliminate the VPN theory that I previously posted. I discovered it didn't matter if I was connected to VPN or not. I also discovered that the YouTube Vanced application was likely the culprit, as once I unlinked and relinked my Google account within it, the Play Store doesn't seem to be constantly crashing. Time will tell, as I don't know if this actually fixed it, or if it's just coincidence. Something for others to check on, if they happen to use the YouTube vanced application.
One of the other things I did was to follow the instructions on the Google support page that outlines how to troubleshoot Play Store crashing. This included removing all updates to the Play Store, and allowing it to update itself again. So, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the crashing ceasing either.
