How to reset the touch buttons instructional - MTCD Android Head Units General

This thread is not asking how to reset the touch buttons down the side of the panel screen.
First go to Settings... Car.. Factory settings.. password 126
Then touch Key study category at the top
Next Touch Key Study

First the system will want you to calibrate the touch screen.
The system will ask you to touch+. What you should do is touch the red number 1 in upper left corner then touch the red 2 in the lower right corner. Then touch Ok. (Could not get clear image for the screen calibration step)
Next touch the touch key you want to assign (e.g. Power button)
Next choose the short press and the long press action you want to assign to the touch button. Then touch Ok.
Repeat for all of the other touch keys. Note that you may not be able to assign a long press action to the volume up and down touch buttons.
Touch Save Exit once you've assigned all of the touch buttons. You can touch reset to start over it needed.
Hope this information helps. This tutorial can help you set the power button to do power off instead of mute volume as set by factory.

The part of this workflow that is kind of counter intuitive is the touch screen calibration step that comes up when you touch on Touch Key Study. Don't touch the center of the screen. Just touch each red number. If you miss touching the numbers just press cancel and start over.
They have you do this as it provides offsets relative to the touch buttons on the side of the screen.

Nicely written. We could use more like this to try to help reduce redundant questions. The pictures are a nice touch as they may help international readers.
I followed your instructions on my head unit out of curiosity about the screen calibration. Good job!

thanks a lot, tried around but your instuction made me set my buttons right !!
BIG THANKS!!!

Good write up, no issues there.
As an observation, it doesn't seem to matter if the information is written up, most, particularly new members that join for "free support" or because their reseller has long stopped responding, won't read anyway.

True that @marchnz A little searching on XDA could find answers for many issues that the "free support" users have with these units. In the times I've corresponded with the resellers the language barrier was a really big problem talking to the Chinese resellers. I've had both good correspondence and really bad with them.
It's users like you, me, and many many others here that help make the XDA forums very useful to people all over the world.

Agreed. Seems like most people want to be spoon fed answers and solutions without reading threads like this one or even searching.

Frustrating isn't it.
Also, consider that the dubious resellers of these units, inadequate and often nonexistent support of their products, bypass consumer laws that legitimate resellers of branded products have to abide by, and which legit resellers fund out of a portion of their sales - grey-box sales errodes consumer choice in the end as legit resellers disappear or they stop developing products.
It's a consumer choice.
I believe those that sign up on XDA for support of these grey-boxes, that dissappear after receiving an answer and time from members that do contribute, should in fact receive the same support they paid for - NIL.
The answers are here, don't feed the leeches

True that we have a choice when we purchased a gray box unit. Thing is that for the most part these gray boxes offer flexibility (albeit with some quirks and bugs) that currently can't be found in the name brand units.
I wish there was a name brand unit that could offer plug and play compatibility out of the box without having to buy extra hardware like iDatalink Maestro boxes and other add on costs. For the most part the gray boxes can be a dumpster fire thrown together mess fraught with bugs. Guess we end up picking and choosing what's acceptable and what's not.

So many devices....

Hey all. Ever notice all these different devices we have here at xda. It's kinda hard to navigate sometimes when I'm looking for devices. Just a thought, maybe we should get them organized by manufacturer or something. It'd make browsing around the forums much easier and reduce a lot of cluster on the forums.
What do you think?
On my Inspire 4G
I think that's a great idea
Try using the search box in the top right corner, saves you all the time in the world.....
Hope that helps..........
Try using "compact view" on the homepage to sort them better
I think it would be better organized if it was more like AndroidForums.com
nice idea...
I agree with the compact view but it still leaves a lot of clutter among the list of devices. Now if it were sorted by the manufacturer it would make the initial forum page much smaller, maybe even only 10-15 sections. Or even for a little reorganization put the devices by the same maker all together instead of a mixed list. Cause the newest devices are at The bottom but are all still mixed among makers. It'd also make new members easier to navigate the forums when looking for their device.

Not sure I understand you. From what I can see on the site, I can search a device by OS or Manufacturer. I have a yellow Drop down menu in the top right side of the site that splits everything by brand or OS.
Rageing you're saying the exact idea I was saying. Just how its sorted by os or mfg but if it was setup like that by default it makes a great first impression for new users and for fast easy searching among the forums

Categorising them by Manufacturer would make a lot of sense.
This would also help distinguish general forums from the device specific ones.

I am not very active on this site mainly because my old phone was never given a forum here(Moto Backflip) but wanted to comment anyways because I hope to be more active now that I have a D2G. Anyways in regards to this issue at hand, I am sorry to say but really? I dont mean to sound like a smart.. but you really expect people to read that? Much less for new members to find it..
I think maybe what people mean when they say sorting things by device is like this:
Motorola: Category
-Flipout(forum)
--General(sub-forum)
--Accessories(sub-forum)
--Development(sub-forum)
-Droid 2
--General(sub-forum)
--Accessories(sub-forum)
--Development(sub-forum)
Then if you set the sub-forums not to set on the forum index, this shortens the forum index substantially making it much quicker and easier to find your device. Like I said I am just assuming on that, so if I am wrong, this would be my suggestion on the matter.

How so? If I go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php and then scroll down, I will find HTC devices in-between samsung and motarola ones, etc... that is not what I call 'sectioned by manufacturer'
I am a new user, but this is not so confusing for me.

Google, Samsung, HTC or Moto: Patent this idea before Apple does!

Concave capacitive touch buttons.
I hate capacitive touch buttons, but it seems like mfg'ers want to move away from mechanical buttons.
In that case, at least make them CONCAVE so that they don't get accidentally pressed ALL THE TIME!

So while I like this, I think it would have to be dependent on the situation. Taking the GNex as an example, it might give a movie some weird reflective glare when a video is being displayed full screen.
Definitely some good food for thought though!
Sorry OP not a fan of this idea.
Maybe make a small nub above the buttons so you can feel them but IMO lighting works just as well.
Besides with the Galaxy Nexus setting a standard in on screen display, and with ICS phones coming from Acer and LG already sporting the design, I am sure all other manufacturers of Android devices will follow.
And...when I think concave I think Apple home button...no thanks.
I hate it to but don't think it is the future. Its all about muscle memory after time you will just know were the button is just like typing

That patent is too general. That's like saying you're going to patent the "back" button that is on the top left of every iOS device in apps.

Why not? Apple patented "slide to unlock".
With that being said, I hope Google patented ICS's software touch buttons. I wouldn't put it past Apple to patent them just to file another lawsuit.

Well, apple got away with some very general patents that they are using to hurt android. One such example is a patent to "touch a contact and dial the contact's phone number on a mobile device."

Had the Gnex since Xmas and the soft buttons always accidentally get hit at some point still.
Ideally, would much rather have hardware buttons, but I think what's contributing to the soft buttons is also mfg'ers trying to achieve bragging rights by having the thinnest phone. Physical buttons need travel.
There was a time when mfg'ers were clammering to see who could put out the smallest phone. But my friend in Japan said that the phones there were trending to be bigger and soon come to the US. Lo and behold, he was right!
It seems like deja vu with the thinness game. I'm glad some Android blogs are talking about how we actually we prefer a little bit of thickness for a more practical phone, ie, has a bigger battery and physical buttons. Hopefully, mfg'ers will get the message.

Neither Android nor WP's need to fear their existens... In Germany (where I live, at the moment) they have stopped selling/they've been told by law to stop selling their I-devices here So, noone should start panicing Anyways, Samsung is stopping supplying Apple with tech. so they will not be able to produce their devices in future...
So stop panicing, guys

Bottom Button Light Alignment

So, I just traded my Galaxy SII for a One X on Craigslist. He told me of this problem before, but hey, I didn't care. The phone functions perfectly fine. The one issue that I'm just annoyed at is the bottom button alignment. I don't know if this is common or not (I tried finding other posts but I didn't find any), but the lights behind the buttons are a bit to the bottom left. But when I press the buttons, they respond, the lights just... aren't behind it? Sorry, I don't have a great camera (used my Captivate) but I tried my best. It doesn't seem prominent, but it really is in the dark. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or can I possibly send this to HTC (if I just tell them I bought it from AT&T, I don't know how they would figure out I didn't. I have the original box too)

well try factory reset once and if the issue is still there then you can talk to htc customer care and send it to them {if the phone is not rooted}

Here is my issue. I already called them and they told me that they could diagnose it and possibly fix it. If I don't want to have it fixed (due to a high price for the services) I am required to pay the $40. So basically, I'm screwed.
Looks to me like the LEDs behind those buttons somehow got shifted. Can’t imagine something like that passing quality control at HTC, perhaps the screen was replaced by the previous owner and whoever responsible did a shoddy job.
Look very closely at the very edge of the screen and the thin black strip surrounding the screen for tool marks. This is how you take off the screen of the One X, the process is likely to leave some marks at the pry points (especially if it was done poorly). If you can see marks, that is a very good indication that the screen was replaced. IMO there is nothing much you can do without taking it apart and re-aligning /replacing the LEDs.

Yep, I just looked and talked to the guy and he said he did open it once. I think I'm just going to leave it as is because the phone functions perfectly fine and I don't even use those buttons that much (I'll just stop them from lighting up with an App). I was also expecting a problem here and there seeing as the phone essentially cost me 160 off contract. Thanks for the help.

Question Display problem with new Fold 3

Got my new Fold 3 today, set it up and immediately noticed that something was wrong with the screens, both large and small. With certain apps such as Google Maps, Samsung Browser, Chrome, Amazon, etc., I have spots on the screen that seem to get stuck and merge into lines when scrolling. This happens on both screens when opened and closed. I've tried Wipe Cache, Factory Reset, and a few other options. Seems to be a hardware issue. Probably a GPU failure if certain hardware acceleration is required. In some apps it doesn't happen at all like Firefox, Youtube, Samsung Gallery, Facebook.
Anyone with the same problem?

Out of the box it should work.
It left the factory like that more than likely
Factory resets solve little* and worse the issue is likely to reoccur if the root cause isn't found.

Well saying things in favour of Samsung does not mean that one is a Samsung executive, and complaints about Samsung doesn't always come from an Apple executive, or an Xiaomi executive. It is exaggerated.
Actually in my opinion folding phones are only a proof of concept and still a long way to become, reliable, and durable, to use. Also it doesn't really brings a ton more than normal phones, considering that they are just pocketable tablets with a less durable screen and less battery life. Sorry to pry but could we get a tl;Dr of what those rights are? Could be useful for people in those regions if they have problems and find this thread.
Although regardless of your regional rights OP wants a working phone right? So returning it as soon as possible makes sense. Iirc in the UK returns are possible up to 7 years later but the sooner you do it the more likely a manufacturer is to help without questions.

Hey all!
I bought the s pen pro for my fold 3. As a pasive pen it works, but i cannot get it to pair for smart bluetooth capabilities even if i press and hold the pairing button. Has someone experienced this? Is there any fix?
had the same issues. had to go into phone settings and type in S Pen... and play around in air action settings.
Thanks...got it. Completwly different to what youtube videos show.
Small tip when messing in s pen settings in air actions you can unpair if the pen is acting up

yea it definitely didnt work straight out the box like the earbuds do
I got lucky and mine paired immediately. Even told me how much battery life it had right out of the box which was 10%.
As soon as I turned mine on, I got a pop-up on my ZF3 to pair it. Then when I switched to SPen mode from Fold mode, I got the same pop-up on my Note 20 Ultra
My s pen pro will not connect to fold 3. It does great with tab s7. I am switching to z fold mode and nothing. My fold does not have any settings for pen or air settings anywhere. Any suggestions? Return pen as defective or is it the crappy Samsung software again? Tried the turn on and Off. It flashes blue. NOTHING. Blue tooth does not see it.
There are instructions that come with the pen, and it was ridiculously easy to pair. However, I'm at a loss finding any use for it, so haven't used it since the day it came (it was free with the Samsung credit). What does everyone use it for? (Gestures are useless to me as I won't remember them.)
You seriously can't remember for gestures that are the exact same in each Direction the only probably used to ever you can't be that brainless not trying to be rude come on the only problem I have is whenever I pulled the pin out I have to reconnect it every time for gestures to work and it's not like I can return the item

How is that not trying to be rude? Yes, I would not be able to remember what the gestures are or are for.
