LG G7 annoying RAM problem. - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

It seems to happen that when my G7 Thinq has no more free RAM left, kills running apps like Spotify, Play Music(not any more), Netflix and others. It kills them even I started recently, or I am listening to music, or I am using Maps while driving or streaming Netflix to Chromecast. So it makes no possible to use these apps normally. I am thinking of buying a new phone just because of that. Does anyone know a solution? I tried being updated, hard reset and uninstalling the apps that more RAM consume.

Wich Android version are you using? Had this problems with the stock verizon rom , too much bloat
Crossflashed the canadian android 10 and everything is miles better .
But uf you dont want to crossflash try to disable the carrier apps , if using chrome switch to a less ram intensive browser and avoid duplicated apps

i'm on android 10 and have the same problem it even disables live wallpapers

Thanks for answering. I did all the LG updates, I am stock rom updated. Mine is not verizon, just normal LG bought in Europe. I don't use chrome or duplicated apps. What you mean with "carrier apps"?

Some carriers have preinstalled apps like games and apps , some of them are very heavy on resources .
Are you using pie or android 10 ? May I suggest trying the smart doctor app , I usually advice against the use of the apps , but this looks like some background process that refuses to let go , run the smart doctor app , Is built in to the phone , after that close all the apps from the recent apps screen , reboot the phone and see if that helps .
If it persist , would you mind upload a screenshot of the ram usage ? It may give us a clue about whats happening .

Thanks for the help, man. It is Android 10. I just used Smart Doctor, and I will check the next days if the problem persists. About memory usage, I will upload in the next days, but it gives the following averages(24h):
3.4 GB
Normal performance
Total memory 3.8 GB
Average use 88%
Free 452 MB

I have tried things like that, but this settings are confusing to me. I am not sure what means to allow or refuse an app to work, etc.

[Q] How to disable apps from running in RAM

Hi,
I've been using CM9beta2 on my Wonder for a while.
Now my phone it's starting to get too laggy so I'm trying to free up as much RAM as possible (having around 50MB available doesn't seem enough!).
However, many apps are always running, even though I disabled everything I could in the settings.
For example, google maps keeps regularly eating 5-10MB RAM, sometimes google Play too, etc...
Is there a way to keep apps out of RAM?
How do you do it?
The only solution I find otherwise, is to get the apk, and install apps when you need them, then uninstall them immediately...

Thanks, but... wouldn't Auto Killer Memory use more battery (or RAM) than having the apps running?
I mean, having smth that checks every few minutes running apps and that closes them... then they reopen again, and the Auto Killer closes them again, and so on... doesn't seem the best solution!
Am I wrong?

It really depend , but I try it and actually getting better result .
With CM9 rom there is a way to disable the apps that you don't need , just go to setting menu, chose manage apps, click the apps that you don't use , and click disable . But you have to make sure the apps that you disable WILL NOT effect other apps that in use . :silly:
Hi...there are two ways to do what you want to do....
The first is as you say to delete and re install the apps as you need them.....
The other way is to NOT delete them, but to FREEZE them. (This is the better option, and the option that I use) there are several apps that will do this, titanium backup (paid app) and Gemini app manager (free) to name two.
I use Gemini and it does EXACTLY what you are asking. You have to be rooted in order to use either of the apps I mentioned....but if you're using a custom rom, I guess you already are. Both apps are available in the Play Store, and there's an online tutorial on how to use Gemini....just Google it.......
Hit thanks if this helped
CM9....I don't have to...I just......can

[Q] No multitasking & stopping home screen

Hey guys!
I have some problem and I'm trying to find some answers but so far no success.
If you guys can't help me then nobody else!
So I have 2 problems and in my opinion they are connected.
The first is that my home screen is closing (stopping?) and opening (redrawing?) itself almost all the time - after YouTube, Chrome, even after closing this forum! Obviously not all the times, but really frequently - it's getting REALLY annoying now. I'm trying Nova launcher now but it's still happening - not that often though, but still.
My other problem is that I have literally no multitasking. If I open my chat app (Whatsapp or Line) and go to Chrome to check out a webpage after I go back to the chat application it had to reboot - like I opened it for the first time! Same thing is happening with Chrome when I check out message for example. For reference I tried out my dad's cheap (compared to G3) phone and it had 4 apps running at the same time (Camera, Chrome, Line and even a game) and all of them was working! Not even one had to restart when I was switching between them...
What do you think - is it normal? (Obviously I'm using the 2/16 version - I was fooled by LG when they said G3 is optimized for 2gb...)
What can I do? Is there anything to do? (Except waiting for a miracle OR update. )
Thanks,
Wikh

Sounds like you're running out of RAM and apps are closing (normal for Android if it runs out of memory).
The G3 is a resource hog.

try flashing the 10J firmware from the kdz thread in general it reduces system ram usage a bit
also maybe install greenify and use the nonroot modus to kill apps that you don't use I never went above 2.2gb of rams so that is in your ballpark
quick and easy fix.
Don't listen Or believe anyone who tells you that The 16gb/2gb ram version Is any less powerful than it's 3gb ram variant. LG isn't playing around when it tells you that Both versions of the phones are equal.
Coming to the fix : you would've discovered it by now but if not, here goes..
Turn on developer mode by hitting build number under software, them just scroll down in developer options to turn down animation scales to half or completely shut them down.
Doing this will bring true real time multitasking on your 16gb/2gb g3. The additional ram on the variant is nothing but a novelty. 2Gb ram is more than enough for almost anything you'll throw to your g3.

[Q] Boost Ram/Disable Auto Start App's

Looking for a App that does as above without taking up much memory in the background whilst doing so. I trialed Smart Booster app and it allowed me too disable auto start for apps I don't need and hibernate others etc but sorta felt like the app itself drain my battery just as much as the apps that were auto starting. Thanks in advance
It's not free, $1.49. But it's worked for me in the past. Personally don't think it will be very useful on this device.

Why do you want free RAM? Free RAM is wasted RAM. Android doesn't need you to constantly clear the RAM. It's actually bad to do that because you need to use more CPU power to recompile the whole app when you open it again until we fully switch to ART which pre-compiles all apps.
Also Android by design will dynamically close apps to make room if it needs more RAM than you have available. Plus not clearing it will safe battery because the CPU will run less cycles when you use apps.
That's just my opinion, however I'm sure you have a reason as to why you wan to clear the RAM. I just thought it was with mentioning the above in case you didn't know.

There's a free version if the app that allows you to freeze apps still, but it won't let you do batch operations if I remember correctly.

How to prevent Android from killing apps?

So, I have this issue, where most of my apps can't stay in recent apps overnight. They all get killed, all but 5 I have noticed. I did the battery optimization thing for all apps I use on a daily basis. I have edited build.prop file and added sys.keep_app_1=com.whatsapp and so on for the rest of my apps. I also did that in the local.prop file. None of it worked. How to prevent my phone from killing apps overnight?

If you are rooted you might try the app LSpeed and use one of the build in RAM profiles.
I am rooted. OK, I will try it. Thanks. It shuts my app very VERY aggressively. For instance, I was watching some youtube video yesterday, and in the other app I was searching for some products and was going back and forth between YouTube and Google Chrome, and every couple of times it restarted YouTube app, even though I was using it 2 minutes ago.

Well, then you probably need a custom rom. Android One is known to be optimized for dumping non needed tasks. You could try to disable battery optimizing for the apps you would like to stay alive.
Tried that too, didn't work.
My previous phone was 2Gb running android 6. Now i have a mi a2 life 4Gb and it is OK except for 2 games.
Apparently there's some AI that learns what you use but after many weeks no change.
Most apps open pretty fast. It's only these 2 games that I run daily. Annoying to have to wait for them especially since the old phone was able to keep them cached.
I tried the low-memory config (magisk module) but it didn't help. I guess android has changed its algorithm. I'm resigned to it.
It's insane. What's the point of having 4, 6, 8 or 10GB of ram if you can't use it?!
Connect it to a monitor, install Taskbar app and SecondScreen app, enable Freeform windows and turn your phone into a mediocre PC. Assuming you can get all the resources back from OS's hidden service threads of course.

Android 10 has a known problem. Rebooting helps. For how long seems to vary. I get a week or so, some people only get a day.
I had the same problem when I was unrooted during the Android 10 update crash. After rooting and installing Lspeed again, Android is not killing apps anymore as I set these settings

Question A greenify app for OPO Android 13

Hello everyone and a happy new year to all!!
I run a business with my phone and used greenify to close all background apps (ig, fb, Twitter etc) from opening up and distracting from business text and email notifications popping up. And also saving battery.
But obviously I learned the greenify isn't being updated for a while and it's a nightmare to easily close certain apps I need closed. I still use it but it takes like 10 mins to close apps that I have chosen to be hibernated.
Is there an app for android 12 that I can use that actually works and closes my background apps in 10 seconds?
I wholeheartedly appreciate any answers!
Thank you all and please stay safe.

I use Ice Box to freeze and defrost apps when I'm not using them.
Thank you for your reply, I'm assuming that you're rooted?
And also when I do greenify all the apps (which takes forever) you know how when you want to share something, you hit "share" and Android opens up all the suggested apps to share with, that causes all the apps to wake up, does that happen with your method?

Hi, servicly is a good alternative for greenify, but for this to be operational android phone must be rooted..
Thank you, I was not trying to go the rooting route, I used to root and install nightlies like a mad man years ago. But now I'm out of the game. Just one question with that. Do you lose Ota updates rooting? Thank you very much.

No, freezing the app disables it until you launch it again. The other suggestion of Servicely may fit your needs better. Both require root.

You still get OTA updates when rooted, just have to do an extra step after installing to keep root. Install OTA but don't reboot yet, then install magisk to inactive slot, then reboot.
Oh I see, if I root then get the Ota it'll disable root and will have to root again. Got it.
But are you 100 percent sure that "share suggestions" don't open up all the apps? Because greenify froze my apps too but like I said before the "search suggestions" would reopen them.
And also does servicely and the other apps freeze quickly? Unlike greenify now that takes like 5 seconds each app to force close. Was so used to greenify it was so easy.
I really do appreciate your help and patience
For my part, i use a battery monitor app called BatteryGuru which has an option for doze configuration which puts apps in hibernation and your device in deep sleep same as the shortcut for sleep in greenify.

BatteryGuru needs a set of permissions achieved with adb commands. There's how to guide in app.
Both icebox and brevent are good to go, neither requires root, you need to do adb or wireless debug though, easy to use and I also recommend Shizuku which helps a lot for non root but high previliege actions
Hello, and thank you again. But it seems like these apps are for doze. I'm more looking for an app that "force stops" apps. Preferably like a batch force stop like greenify did.
I want to pick and choose which apps I want running and which I don't.
Thank you and happy new year

Icebox works great with root. Never tried it without. It completely disables target apps like they aren't even installed on your phone. They don't show up in the share menu. The free version tackles 10 apps max. For more, you need the full version.
What @terlynn4 said about rooted OTA is correct, with the qualification that you will need to download the full OTA (4gb+), not incremental.
I'll definitely dabble again in rooting if needed be. Had so much fun with it since the first Android. But then just got older and busier and stopped sadly.
Now with this new oxygen colorOS crap it's a nightmare.
Does anyone know why greenify technically DOES work but takes so darn long to go thru its cycle on Android 12? Or is it just our OS that's like that?

It was definitely all good until Android 12. Now even the other apps that were like greenify do the same thing and take forever to cycle thru the apps and force stops them. I wonder why
Maybe because android 12 already "optimizes" apps and has a background app check that shows which app are running since when. Maybe not an expert here.I
know this is off-topic but If anyone is interested in a good close to stock android 12 source custom rom, i highly suggest StagOs 12. It spoofs a pixel 5 so you get all pixel 5 features. I like it very much.
I went on background check and there's only 2 apps there with a date that says March.
Dumb question guys/gals like I said since I haven't rooted in a looooong time.. If I root will it erase my phone? And if so what app do I use to make the best backup so I can keep my apps and data associated with it before I root. Love you all for the help.
