I've searched but can't find the answer to this one - sorry if I've missed it somewhere. I have an unmolested T-Mobile UK MDA Vario 2 and I'm trying to install the official TM UK WM6 upgrade ROM.
On my desktop PC (which is properly paired to the phone through ActiveSync to sync with Outlook etc) running the exe results in a grey box with red text saying "Checking files on your PC" forever unless I unplug the phone. Then it will eventually launch the wizard. If I plug the phone in again and wait until it's synced and "Connected", the wizard will go all the way through to checking the existing version and starting the upgrade. However, when the upgrade starts the progress bar stays at 0% and the phone turns off!! Eventually it times out with a 260 error, and no changes have been made to the phone. The PC is running XP, but the only fixes I've seen for the 260 error are if you're running Vista?
I've also tried on my XP laptop - this isn't paired, so the connection through Activesync is just as Guest. The update still does the strange thing with the "Checking files on your PC" box if the phone's plugged in, but unlike the desktop PC the RUU won't talk to the phone at all - connection error before it can even verify the existing ROM version.
Can anyone help? I've been waiting for months to get WM6!
Cheers,
Tim
Phone just turns off?
OK, so now I've done a hard reset on the phone, paired it up to my XP laptop and told it not to sync anything. Now I get to the same stage as I do on the desktop - i.e. the phone switches itself off when the upgrade begins (at 0%), then the RUU times out with an error 260!
One odd thing I noticed is that if I plug the phone in with "Advanced network functionality" enabled (which it is by default) the PC tries to connect it as a new 10mb network card!? However, the RUU does the same thing whether this is enabled or not.
Getting desparate for help now - I've tried 2 different machines and even cleared the phone completely, what more can I do?
Cheers,
Tim
Try flashing from an sdcard. There are quite a post on it here, if you do a quick search you should be able to find the information and hopefully get your device upgraded.
It might be worth installig spl V7 from here before hand just in case anything goes wrong.

Working!
Thanks for the reply. Finally got it flashed using the instructions from here:
http://forums.cingular.com/cng/boar...thread.id=42389&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
Basically, you have to:
- Connect using Activesync and let it finish syncing.
- Start RUU.
- Activesync will close - ignore it and carry on.
- Eventually the phone will go into debug mode.
- Continue through the wizard - it won't be able to identify the existing rom version but this seems to be normal.
- Let it finish!
I was fiddling when Activesync closed - strangely, by disconnecting, restarting AS and reconnecting the wizard carried on and even identified the existing rom properly! It seems that it needs AS to connect to the phone initially, then it closes AS but keeps the USB connection open for the update.
Hope that helps anyone else with the same problem.
Cheers,
Tim
Hello all,
This could be ROM related, but I could not find any solution in the searches I've made. I am finding that QuickGPS is not updating automatically upon connection with activsync...when set to do so.
I would assume that the fix is in the registry? Perhaps someone else has had this issue and found a solution?
Looking forward to trying anything simple, before I update the ROM....
Thanks
facing same problem & couldn't find a solution
hope to find suitable fix
i THINK u need internet connection to be active on your computer 1st
If your in AS mode and connected to Internet through the PC then you can do it Manually by going to the Program and Taping on it,
If someone has an Automatic solution once you're connected to AS & PC i would like to hear about it, maybe the same solution could happen for Automatic Weather update??
Just to clarify the problem:
The PC is connected to Internet, and my HD is connected through ActivSync.
I have Internet connection using Opera & can surf websites normally using it.
BUT cannot surf using Internet Explorer , and also can not update QuickGPS manually (when click Download, I got the message "Connection Failed. Pls try again later"
Thanks if anyone can help.
Interestingly enough my issue is different.....
I can download the data when I click the "Download" button...no problem
HOWEVER, the minor issue is that it is not automatically updating and downloading on connection with Activsync.....as it is supposed to do
I think if you not able to download any updated data (at all) then you have a more serious problem. Sometimes their server is down and getting the data does not work
Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Plus here which is almost brand new and has only been used for some phone/texts/emails so far.
I connected it to a PC running Samsung Kies and it told me there was a firmware update available for this phone, so i clicked ok and had it install.
During the installation, at 22%, everything freezes and locks up, it remained at 22% for 45 minutes until (after some googling) i was recommended to just turn it off / reboot it.
After rebooting, i constantly get this icon on the screen :
Copy & paste the following in a web browser (as I'm not allowed to place a link or picture apparently)... : img267.imageshack.us/img267/930/fotofg.jpg
I tried removing the battery for 10 seconds and then boot it up again - same screen.
And it doesn't matter if its connected to the PC or not, its always that screen.
And when it IS connected to the pc, samsung Kies shows the 'connecting' screen but it never actually connects.
What do I do ?
How is it possible that someone's phone gets locked/frozen for simply trying to update ?!

Hello,
It's a big problem, but maybe can you blame samsung? However, I don't know if you have CMW, but try to boot that and than install custom rom (a zip rom). After that you can install original firmware.
If that doesn't work find a rom that works with odin, boot in download mode and install that rom, after that install original firmware.
Similar thing append to me but wile using odin i got the same screen.
What i did was connect it gain to the pc, odin detected it and was able to flash the rom.
It was pretty scary i assure you.
My advise is if the phone is brand new take it to your dealer a let them sort this out as it was not your fault at all.
If it's a brand new phone I'd use Samsung's warranty or maybe even return it.
Hello, pps! As the title says, I tried to put a different firmware for my GWA 1, via Wifi...Said and done... Proces completed successfully but when the watch started, there was no possibility to connect to my phone...
I started the watch without pairing and saw that it doesn't have any BT and Wifi Adress ( as shown in the pics...) The method to Download wireless AP-1 stopped working...
So I made a USB connector to the pins, with info found here.
I successfully put other firmware via USB - Odin but the BT and Wifi address still missing... ( see the pics )
Does ANYONE know how can I restore/ Rewrite these addresses, maybe via SDB Tool? THANK you for your time!
Write me Conversation... the new Private Message System...
Best Regards
Uuups. You allready did... my fault...
Best Regards
Issue SOLVED! I flashed with ODIN this firmware :
R500XXU1ETI1_Tizen_3File_CSC (OXA).EF_83fdd26083.zip (extracted with WinZip, and after that extracted again with EF FILE EXTRACTOR ( https://mega.nz/file/40NQ3YaL#JL5cq46ErZFoSFB-fxMmOsKBd44VDcMgUtOl8Ji8hrA )
found here : https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682953343
AND after reboot, my watch had again BT identity and connected to my phone!
Restored my backup and everything is back to normal! Also Wifi address.
Best of wishes to all that had/have the same problem!
