Guide needed for G710ULM11g rooting, backup and installing Magisk with Viper4Android - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have the mobile with the following information
Code:
Android version
8.0.0
Android security patch level
November 1 , 2018
Baseband version
MPSS.AT.
4.0.c2.9-00045-5DM845_GEN.PACK-1 .160685.1 .163435.1
Kernel version
4.9.65
Build number
OPRI.170623.032
Software version
G710ULM11g
The OEM bootloader unlock option is enabled in the developer's settings.
I have been searching around , however wasn't able to find the required information in a coherent manner.
I would appreciate if someone can guide me in the right direction for the following:
1. To be able to load custom recovery and make a unrooted original stock backup of the current ROM - to be used in case I need to revert to stock.
2. To be able to root on the current ROM version, or if the higher versions are rootable can/do I need to upgrade the ROM, as I am getting the OTA upgrade message (haven't done it as yet).
3. Load Magisk and all sound enhancements , at minimum Viper4Android (and Dolby if working).
4. Load Sony Walkman Music Player
5. Which root hide to use with Magisk so the root is not detectable for finance/banking applications. Not sure if google pay or similar applications would work that way.
Thanks for reading and your suggestions.

1. You can do this through edl. Guide is available.
2. Magisk root works on all the roms. Custom recovery does not work on stock 10, so you will have to extract boot partition and patch.
3. Viper4android works. Dolby no idea...
4. Don't use. Don't know.
5. I use magisk hide itself for some work and covid tracking apps. Banking apps no idea.

Man, you actually have the perfect model to root. The firmware you're on already gives you access to fastboot and you can unlock it, root it and install TWRP all through fastboot. Afterwards, you can upgrade to Pie using LGUP and still stay rooted with Magisk. I will link the thread. It's a bit confusing because somethings were deleted, but if you need help let me know.

After this you can install a custom kernel. Look up TNO Kernel in the G7 threads. Also, any audio mods will degrade the sound quality of the G7. Viper is not 64bit and it will resample all of your audio to 48k. Other mods will stop you from being able to output 24bit audio or interfere with how the Quad Dac is meant to operate. Just pay the 8 bucks for USB Audio Player Pro and you'll be good. It's a music player that can bypass androids upsampling and it is made to recognize your specific DAC and make initial adjustments accordingly. You can download a Magisk module that will allow you to change the fingerprint of your device to pass safety net and use banking apps. There is a Sony music Magisk module as well if you can't live without it, but USB Audio Player Pro can be used with Bubble Unpnp to stream from your Google drive folder, or use the Air Audio app and Magisk module to stream while avoiding too much degradation in audio quality. Then, when the official Android 10 ULM update comes out, you many need to use QFIL to update and keep root but until then you only need the modded LGUP.

Thanks for info, I am not entirely sure but I understand using this method you have to load the bootloader of another mobile model from LG, will this have any effect on the remaining functionality of the mobile itself.

The network speed indicator gets in the way of the center clock. Is there a zip to either revert back to default or just move the clock back to the right or just remove the indicator lol? Also what is the csc fix?

So I flashed v3.1 but still am having the issue. I installed the apk too. I'm guessing the bottom line is don't fix permissions on this Rom on the 920P. And since that seems to be a requirement for the fixes to work, those are not options either for us. I'll try reflashing v3 then 3.1. Seems like that should fix my issue.
Anyone have an MD5 for 3.1? Also is everyone's fingerprint scanner n private mode working? Thanks!
Wiping data required? So we have to erase absolutely everything (even pics and media) on the phone before we flash? Regardless, thanks for the rom!
edit - talking about coming from 5.1.1

Not necessary. I dirty flash new versions, but as you probably know, A clean flash is always recommended. Roll the dice if you're comfortable.

Here to report everything is working fantastic!! Everything works right out of the box. No issues yet.... remember to flash a kernel first guys (for 920P) before you report any issues!

Well considering this kernel was working on Twisted project and the OP did not specify a requirement of a specific kernel, and I the kernel i had worked ok on twisted
I wanted to know if this required a specific kernel.
Also I wanted to know if anyone had a recovery flashable version as my video card took a **** yesterday and it's gonna be a couple days before newegg delivers my new one.
But in typical autistic 10 year old fashion, rather than be actually helpful you just had to be a condescending prick.
I bet that works out real well for you offline.

as for your problem....
I was able to fix this by rolling back a google play services version and then updating by the way. Took a few trys but it stuck.

Dude are you serious? YOUUU sound/look like 5yr old here. Stop being childish and take this crap somewhere else. This is for development purposes, not childish BS.
Glad you fixed the problem you were having though :good:
@phelony
I sincerely apologize if I've done anything to offend you. Not my intentions at all.
The reason you need to flash a G920P Kernel after is that as stated in the following change log. The Rom already includes a Kernel, which is for the G925P .
I'm not familiar enough with the G920P to recommend a Kernel . If your device has one that is highly used, I can add it to the OP.
OFE-deodexed v3.1
Added libs from G925PUPU2BOGA to fix lib Stagefright hack
Disable increasing ringer-assuming this was happening.
Removed carrieriq
Build.Prop tweaks for media added
Added unikernel v6 0001- thanks @djvoleur
Good work on the rolling back of the google play services version :good:

HTC One m8 hide root

Hi,
First of all I'm new here. I have recently rooted and installed Lineage OS on my HTC One m8. I have noticed that one of my apps (Adidas Confirmed) does not support rooted devices. Therefore I just tried (15 min ago) to flash SUhide on my phone. This resulted in a boot-loop and I therefore had to restore my device. Is there any other way to hide the fact that my device is rooted? As far as I know Xposed framework isn't out yet for Android 7.0 and I can't get Cydia substrate to work with root cloak. Btw I have S-off (not sure if this makes a difference to why the methods I have tried didn't work or not. Just wanted to mention)
Thanks in advance!

There's no Xposed Framework for Nougat. Maybe he can try to use Magisk. Magisk has option to hide the root.

No, you don't need to. S-OFF is giving you more permissions, like to flash h/k mod on sense rom or to flash firmware easily.

I cannot give you a definative answer concerning your ROM mut I too have a rooted HTC One (M8). Post rooting I tried various ROMs from Cyanogen mod but none of these were very up-to-date for long and Android has been quite vulnerable since most manufacturers take an expediant and cynical view when it comes to supporting non-cutting edge hardware (HTC was one of the worst) and supplying security patches. I should add I try to avoid Google and the big social media platforms because I am not prepared to trade privacy (hand over personal data) for the sake of functionality. So, I have been using Moke ROM - MK60.1 Android security patch 1 April 2017. I tried usin MK71 Nightly OTA release but found them unstable - they lost dialer and network functionality after 24 hours. This is where my comments become more relevant. I have several proprietry UK banking apps installed including FinTek ones. None of them is supposed to instal on a rooted device, not at least without saying 'rooted - no go'. Under settings, developer options root access is controlled. The options are: Disabled Apps only ADB only Apps and ADB. None of the Fintek apps function but the main legacy bank app does even though it is not supposed to. In conclusion it seems to be that the app has code capable of interrogating the phone OS and detecting rooted status. Depending on the quality of the program it may correctly determin rooted status, or not. It is highly unlikely there is any intervention available to the rooter to combat this.

Thanks for the reply! In the meantime, I have bought a Samsung galaxy s8 and put my HTC One m8 on a shelf. However, I remember that I managed to solve the issue somehow through Magisk and their "hide root function". It may have been because of an update to the Adidas app or a Magisk update, I am not sure. Hope this was somewhat helpful

Magisk is indeed a solution. It's been updated to (currently) hide root successfully from Safety Net. Although Google may update it again, and break the hide function. So the cat and mouse game goes on. But so far topjohnwu is aggressively keeping Magisk updated to bypass Safety Net.
Apps may use other methods to detect root besides Safety Net. But Safety Net is probably the most common method. Magisk works for me, in hiding root from Netflix and banking apps on my current device (OnePlus 3T).
More recent versions of SuperSU also have a function to hide root (current version is 2.82). I personally haven't tried it. But reports I've read are positive.
Xposed is a no-go, as far as I know. It inherently breaks SafetyNet. So whatever means the Xposed module used before to hide root, won't work now. Again, AFAIK (haven't personally tried, and not really an xposed user).
Also note that some custom ROMs may also trip Safety Net. And if so, there is nothing the Magisk Hide and SuperSU hide function can do about that. But I think this does not apply to Lineage (hide still works).

Which Roms can be installed with QI15 firmware

I have purchased yet another note 4 for the grandson. His firmware is QI15. Original plan was for me to use it, but since my Pixel 3a XL is still yet a lease I might as well use it. Plus it is a lot faster anyway.. His mother does not have the money to buy one for him, so I figured what the hell, he can have it.Which roms can he use.. I no longer have mine, but will root this if it is still possible.. From reading you can't downgrade from MM to LL. But can you downgrade to a earlier version of MM? Thanks.
inYes, that is correct but also cant downgrade the bootloader/modem. That is because of fused 5, binary 4. and te old official stock 5DQ15 .tar md5 can be fashed via Odin. Any other stock firmware below that has a fused 4 and flashing will result in a bricked device.
If your already on 5DQ15 and wish to flash customer roms then use TWRP and make a back up of all partitions to external sd. The any custom rom for Sprint Note 4 (sm-n910p) on Marshmallow are/should compatible. Basically, follow the instructions provided by the rom developer but do not flash a different bootloader or modem. Other than that follow all other institution. For best results, start in setting , sustem update and turm of automatic updates then update PRL and Profile beforehand. Developer Option and usb debugging enabled.
Rooting the Sprint Note 4 on 5DQ15 still possible? Yes 100% SuperSu or Magisk are the preferred root methods.

[/COLOR]https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...are-customizations-mods-roms-kernels-t3960353
Also recommend you start with a stock deodexed rom as a base before flashing other custom roms. Rom only
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...tock-deodexed-debloated-pk1-12-11-16-t3517454
or
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-t3568075
then reboot and give it time to properly set up set up. Check if hotspot is visible setting and check your apn settings. If all looks good and it should the return to TWRP and once again make a back up and rename (2019-10-05-deodexStockNoroot.....) so not to be mistaken with any other backups. After that flash root .zip and/or a custum rom of you choice.
I use the BeastMod r61 kernel by Freeza on a N4 Dtux V9 Legend rom. Fixed issues with network connection.

inYes, that is correct but also cant downgrade the bootloader/modem.

Also recommend you start with a stock deodexed rom as a base before flashing other custom roms. Rom only

or
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-t3568075
then reboot and give it time to properly set up set up.

I 100% agree that not being able to downgrade sucks big time. I hear all the hipe about new Android OS updates but there are advantages of older versions. In 2018, I searched for a replacement with a lower bootloader but simply couldn't find one. Knowing that peope were bricking there device and Odin fails I decided to get one in fair condition. Being the type to mod and flash yet unsure of what ir how to do that as custom roms are specific to bootloader and modem. I figured, I'll practice with a cheap on incase I hard brick. At the time there didnt seem to be specific information on what rom worked with 5DQ15. I started out with Stockist Plus tidbits Q15. My old Note 4 was on [MOAR v2.1] [ULTIMATE Note5 Hybrid] on lollipop 5.1.1. and had lost of customizations prebuild. So going from the Mother Of All Roms (MOAR) on lollipop to Stockish Q15 on marshmallow, just sucked. It didnt take long before I started taking calculated risks with flashing and porting, even from other models and variations. Stepping out side the box but within boundaries. For instance, the n910f is an international version but much of its software is compatible with the n910p. For instance, this one works on n910p with most stockish roms on Sprint Note 4. With Custum roms it may conflict depending on the setting. If stockish rom or custom rom come with a "rom control"app (interface) and .zip in the link bellow come with "rom control" app thin it is not compatible. One cool feature is it adds "multiple user" in setting.

These n910f worked for me and has the advantage of separate .zips moding specific parts but warn that one of these .zip in the link , I believe its the "settings theme" .zip when flashed removes "hotspot" from the settings. Just 6.0mm zips are compatible on dq15 n010p.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/theme-customize-galaxy-note-4-n910f-t3017621
The GRX is one of my favorites for stockish roms. It can be compatible with custom roms but its a complicated process. Im guessing it should work with the N7 hybrid rom. Its relatively easy and offers nice smooth customizations. Its a good idea to chech the setting of both settem and "setting GRX" as to avoid conflict. If you find it on XDA even better. For me, I find it to be the best thing on 6.0mm.

And the PK1 hotspot mod will work as long as the hotspot is in the main settings.

If you install Busybox with the N7 hybrid kernel I offer a suggestion.
Busybox by Stephen (Stericson)
I never installed the Dr. Ketan rom but I did look at the Touchwiz launcher provided in the .zip and it is a MM. Dont know why you got FC's . Most likely its our latest firmware that to blame.
Wish I could remember what it was I flashed to get that in my settings as I think I remember you wanted that feature.

[GUIDE] Installing Viper4Android on Android Pie with February 2020 security update

Hi
I recently modified my Galaxy A8 with android pie and wanted to include Viper4Android, but there appeared to be no support for it at first. This turned out to not be true, and I could not find any comprehensive guide that told me how to do it for android pie, but it turns out there is a way!
I am not at all a root-expert and I do not understand the specifics of rooting. I am not responsible for any negative consequences to your phone. I also have some little anomalies on my phone as a few com.sec.xxxxx files are not found by the Titanium Backup app, whilst it appears according to the internet there should be. Therefore, I recommend you only do this if you can reinstall your stock firmware easily until more people have given conformation that my guide here works.
Requirements:
- Custom Recovery like TWRP
- Root with Magisk (other root apps like SU don't appear to work, as the specific module which this guide relies on is Magisk-only
- Viper4Android APK found here (this guide is for Oreo, however it worked for me with my work-around)
- SELink set to permissive.
(I had to download a custom kernel to do this, as terminal commands, SELink changer or Knox deletion did not work to change SELink for me. I used Quantum Kernel (found here on XDA in development thread section), which works with the february 2020 security update. Great custom kernel btw!)
So you install the Viper4Android APK. This app will not work properly because it's meant for Oreo of course, so then you install the Viper4Android FX module found in Magisk, then you open the app you just installed and follow the prompts. The app GUI should change and look more modernized than before. Say yes to the driver installation and give the app SuperSU rights.
You should be good to go from here. Please do tell if my guide works for you.
All credits go to the amazing developers of the respective softwares. I only wrote this guide to make the road for the next guy like me easier. Have fun with Viper!

Root and use as a dedicated music player

I am on indian firmware which is currently unrootable . Which firmware should I install to easily root the phone? Also is it safe to install other model firmware? Need to just use it as a dedicated music playback device. Calling is not required.

Did you ever go through with this? I'm doing the same thing and would like to hear any advice.
Why root if all you want is a music player?
Disable all the Google junk.
Get PowerAmp paid version, done.

Well, that's why I was looking for adriansiv to share his experience!
I've done this previously with another phone (Samsung galaxy s3 mini) and it worked great, but in 2021 there doesn't seem to be the same need for rooting. I'm running DotOS on my G7 and use Neutron Player and USB Audio Player Pro, and it does the job, however there are still features of the phone that I don't need (Messaging app, Phone app) and I can't disable them. With root I could pare back the phone to its bare bones, but it's not essential.
(By the way, this is nothing to do with the G7's suitability as a phone - I managed to pick up a pre-owned device for £50 so I couldn't refuse!!)

You can package disable either will an app that allows real time control or by ADB edited
I like using the package disabler because some apks you might occasionally need so you can easily switch them on/off.
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.
www.packagedisabler.com
Samsung is also using their SSC bt codec which be useful if you use the Buds+, Live or Pro. SBC be a downgrade from SSC. With Samsung the only other viable HD bt codec option is LDAC.
A rooted phone may be better especially for a music server. If offline the only security risk is bt.
Try stock and see how that works, then modify if/as needed.
Make sure the device has the hardware audio specs you need!!!

I'll check the package disabler out, cheers. I wasn't aware that was possible so it's perfect.

It not longer disables Google play Services so you'll need to do so in app settings.
It does disable all bloatware and most services unless they are hidden system Administrators like Samsung Pay.
It will run in safe mode too so be caution what you disable. I never boot looped a device with it but don't disable critical apks like the launcher.
If you boot loop the device with it a factory reset will be needed to purge it. Or some fancy ADB commands
