Did you ever go through with this? I'm doing the same thing and would like to hear any advice.

Why root if all you want is a music player?
Disable all the Google junk.
Get PowerAmp paid version, done.

Well, that's why I was looking for adriansiv to share his experience!
I've done this previously with another phone (Samsung galaxy s3 mini) and it worked great, but in 2021 there doesn't seem to be the same need for rooting. I'm running DotOS on my G7 and use Neutron Player and USB Audio Player Pro, and it does the job, however there are still features of the phone that I don't need (Messaging app, Phone app) and I can't disable them. With root I could pare back the phone to its bare bones, but it's not essential.
(By the way, this is nothing to do with the G7's suitability as a phone - I managed to pick up a pre-owned device for £50 so I couldn't refuse!!)

You can package disable either will an app that allows real time control or by ADB edited
I like using the package disabler because some apks you might occasionally need so you can easily switch them on/off.
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.
www.packagedisabler.com
Samsung is also using their SSC bt codec which be useful if you use the Buds+, Live or Pro. SBC be a downgrade from SSC. With Samsung the only other viable HD bt codec option is LDAC.
A rooted phone may be better especially for a music server. If offline the only security risk is bt.
Try stock and see how that works, then modify if/as needed.
Make sure the device has the hardware audio specs you need!!!

It not longer disables Google play Services so you'll need to do so in app settings.
It does disable all bloatware and most services unless they are hidden system Administrators like Samsung Pay.
It will run in safe mode too so be caution what you disable. I never boot looped a device with it but don't disable critical apks like the launcher.
If you boot loop the device with it a factory reset will be needed to purge it. Or some fancy ADB commands

DON'T DO IT! Be careful.
From what I can see, they want you to unlock your bootloader, which is nothing special and the preferred (only one) root method, mentioned here...
You should think about backing up your DRM-Keys first by using this method

thank you for your reply, bro.
Funny, how people are looking to root their device but re-think about rooting it. Don't even think of rooting your phone if you're unsure about what you're doing. Might as well just buy an iPhone and forget about modding your phone to its full potential.
Seriously, I don't even give a damn about warranty and DRM keys. I bought the phone, and it's mine. I should have full control over it and modify it as I want, say unlock the bootloader or whatever it is, hey it's my money well spent why should I care less... The only problem that will come in is when you put your Z5 premium dual into water and it starts to evaporate on your camera lense then you should send it to Sony for warranty or just send to any mobile phone shop and spend some money. Come on the moment your warranty is over, your phone will become obsolete, Z7 will come in hand.
Edit: Anyway, enough random rant. If you still wanna root your phone check this out for the DUAL variant... http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/complete-noob-friendly-guide-to-t3426220

before rooting please tell what is your Z5p
1. version E6xxx
2. what is your stock build number (last three digits) .170 ?
3. do u know rooting? and its risks and its privileges ?
now,
if you are having SONY z5 (z5p) (any variant) with LOLLYPOP rom ( sony version ending with .170 )
there is simple way to
1. ROOT
2. and backup your DRM KEYS
kingroot can root androild 5.1.1 (32.0.A.6.170) (many says kingroot is unsafe and it takes device info to china servers) ( so they might be true)
once you have ROOTED 5.1.1 ,
download this https://github.com/DevShaft/Backup-TA/archive/v9.11.zip and take your DRM KEYS BACKUP
READ INSTRUCTIONS at
https://github.com/DevShaft/Backup-TA/releases
once backup is taken, just download and flash kernel for your variant from here

I have a Z5P, but it's running Marshmallow (6.0.1) - is it possible to root it?
And is it possible to root it without losing all my settings and resetting everything to factory defaults?
Also, why are the DRM key backup important? What do I need them for?

Q. is it possible to root z5p on 6.0.1?
A. YESSS
Q. without loosing settings data?
A. NO
Q. why?
A. because rooting z5p running on 6.0.1 / kernel 3.1x; require unlocking bootloader. and the momment u unlock you boot loader (a) your internal storage / TA Partitions gets Wiped (b) and you looks your DRM keys / FIDO Keys
Q. why do u need DRM keys?
A. frankly , have rooted fone, and i never had chance to save my keys! because you can only save yoru keys on LP kernel! and MM kerna don't have workaround! , i have kernel having DRM stimulation fixed so X-reality and camera 4k feature works fine.
DRM keys are Digital rights managment keys comes in play when Sony software running in xperia validate themselve and runs with full features!. modified kernal has drm stimulant installed so kernel still report these setting/software that keys are there (even when they arent)
Fido keys are required by Google authentication login.
having drm keys / fido keys/ backup is a PLUS point!, if you don't have . then still for me no biggy!

So it won't be possible to root and run the original ROM? I guess that means I miss out on future OTA updates :-/
Seems like a lot of hassle for little gain :-/
Also it seems I probably won't choose Sony again, I feel that when I pay good money for a phone, I should be able to use it as I please. And Sony is actively trying to stop me from doing that.

it is Original Rom, just kernel is MODIFIED to give you root access.
- sony OTA don't check your root access it only refer to unlock/lock boot loader and push OTA. if you RELOCK your bootloader by (flashTOOL)
http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php , your device will get OTA.
- remember after any major system OTA your root access will be gone
- All major devices Samsung / HTC / LG / SONY / Huawai has extra securities enabled from Android 6x.x making hard to break and gain root access.
- Oneplus3 , Xiomi phones and others have one click root enable feature (from developer options)
- but yes i agree, Sony went one step ahead with DRM keys. feels like making deal with devil in order to have root access. breaking sony devices is Pain in the XXXX
- I prefer rooted phones as they give you freedom to control your ram and remove bloatware.
- I also prefer xperias because they are more reliable and once rooted they get even better!
- i have rooted x5p and works like a charm (6.01 / .253)
z5p modified STOCK kernels can be found at (version .253) https://mega.nz/#F!KwZhjLIK!uNbDzR6lCXMaaW7jKFS1WQ!vogFiYiL (respects to @KbaB.BroS

people have misconception about devices! many of my literate/ job holding friends thinks that Android is Samsung galaxy / note series ONLY! , for them if galaxy s6 is failing, S7's battery is xploding then its a failure of ANDROID!
for such people , YES i agree they shouldn't try tasting the custom cooked modded Android! , better buy iphone / lumia !
I agree with you! I bought sony , its expensive as compare to other devices! , I should hold BETTER control over my hardware than sony! its my hardware now! and i will take care of it! i know i can take care of it

Moto G5 not compatible with Android Auto?

I can't find Android Auto on the playstore on my phone, and when I go to the playstore from my PC it tells me that "This app is incompatible with all of your devices."
Is it really incompatible, or maybe this is because Android Auto is not yet available in my country?

As far as I can tell the only requirements for the app itself is android lollipop and above so it probably is geo restricted
Since I don't have your device anymore I can't check
I have included the app in the attachment below though for you to install yourself
It is compatible, I am using it and installed it from play store. Maybe clear the Play store cache? AS pointed out you can also just install the apk (also from apkmirror)
Thanks. Are you using it with the G5 or the G5 Plus?
What is strange is that it is telling me that it is incompatible with my device, and not that it is not available in my country, as it happens with some other apps.
Is it is safe to install it with an .apk, and would I receive updates if I do it that way?

The apk I posted was downloaded by myself from the playstore so totally safe
You would only get updates if It is available in your playstore & even then you may have to uninstall & reinstall depending on app signatures if different in different locations

Thanks. If I can get confirmation that it should work with the moto g5 (not the plus) then I will try it out.
Any reason why Google would have country restrictions on Android Auto? The cars are the same, the apps (maps, music etc) work fine, so why place restrictions on Android Auto? Apple doesn't seem to have any such restriction with Car Play (in my country at least)

Why do you need confirmation to try it? Just try it - it will either install or say app not installed
Like I said the only min requirements is lollipop so no reason why the app won't install
Some apps maybe geo restricted for licensing purposes - if Googling why the app isn't available in your country doesn't come up with anything the only thing you can do is contact the app developer

If you know my reputation around here you know I provide support
I used to be a recognised contributor but left xda for a while
Also I provided the official twrp for this device
So looking through my past posts/threads you will see the kind of support I provide
Of course, I mean you work on twrp for g5 and yet someone still manages to be suspicious
I am not suspicious I just want to know if it actually works! If this is not a country thing, maybe they marked this phone as incompatible for a good reason. I don't yet have a car with Android Auto so I can't fully test it now. Maybe it would run on the phone itself, but then fail to connect to the car (I've seen reports of this happening for several phones including different versions of the Moto G). Or maybe there is some other kind of bug that only shows up once connected to a car...

The only person that can answer your question would be the app developer
Would be quicker & easier to test yourself as the chance of someone with a moto g5 & the car you might have with android auto support would be highly unlikely
In these situations it's always better to just try yourself or contact the app developer for support
I installed the apk that TheFixItMan has provided and it works fine, on both the phone and a car I tried it with for a few minutes. Thanks!
As it was said previously I can't update Android auto from the play store now, so I assume at some point it might stop working properly. Should I just get a new apk every time I need an update?

What apps do I lose on root?

I couldn`t find some kind of list of which apps I lose access to if I root the Note 10/10+.

Secure folder, Samsung pay and any app that makes use of knox
Most other apps can be made to work with tweaks

Most important question you should ask , What do i gain by rooting ? ad blocking ? system ui theming ? all of these things can done without rooting but if you are using exynos version you will get most of lost functionality by going custom rom route.

If you want just root + Stock ROM
- Secure folder
- Samsung Pay
- Samsung Pass
- Samsung Health
- Google Pay - There are some workaroun, search XDA
- Many banking and other app but should be fixed with magisk hide
but I believe those app can be run if you reboot to device without root.
From above many things can be fixed with some patch like
- Secure folder can work
- Samsung health can work
- Samsung Pay can be used with Gear watch
only samsung pass won't work but you can use Google's auto fill option instead.
Good to know all these things. I decided to root it when it arrives. Thank you.

Is rooting difficult and is it really worth rooting? Isnt it possible to mess up your phone / void warranty? Seems like a big risk just for a little customization

Yes it is worth rooting in any aspect.
Rooting is not "little customization" rather then deep changes "under the hub" and "risk" is only for those who doesn't know why and what to do with rooted device.
And warranty ?...Really, due to "effective" Samsung "support"...who cares about warranty...

The OEM bootloader unlock option is enabled in the developer's settings.
I have been searching around , however wasn't able to find the required information in a coherent manner.
I would appreciate if someone can guide me in the right direction for the following:
1. To be able to load custom recovery and make a unrooted original stock backup of the current ROM - to be used in case I need to revert to stock.
2. To be able to root on the current ROM version, or if the higher versions are rootable can/do I need to upgrade the ROM, as I am getting the OTA upgrade message (haven't done it as yet).
3. Load Magisk and all sound enhancements , at minimum Viper4Android (and Dolby if working).
4. Load Sony Walkman Music Player
5. Which root hide to use with Magisk so the root is not detectable for finance/banking applications. Not sure if google pay or similar applications would work that way.
Thanks for reading and your suggestions.

1. You can do this through edl. Guide is available.
2. Magisk root works on all the roms. Custom recovery does not work on stock 10, so you will have to extract boot partition and patch.
3. Viper4android works. Dolby no idea...
4. Don't use. Don't know.
5. I use magisk hide itself for some work and covid tracking apps. Banking apps no idea.

Man, you actually have the perfect model to root. The firmware you're on already gives you access to fastboot and you can unlock it, root it and install TWRP all through fastboot. Afterwards, you can upgrade to Pie using LGUP and still stay rooted with Magisk. I will link the thread. It's a bit confusing because somethings were deleted, but if you need help let me know.

After this you can install a custom kernel. Look up TNO Kernel in the G7 threads. Also, any audio mods will degrade the sound quality of the G7. Viper is not 64bit and it will resample all of your audio to 48k. Other mods will stop you from being able to output 24bit audio or interfere with how the Quad Dac is meant to operate. Just pay the 8 bucks for USB Audio Player Pro and you'll be good. It's a music player that can bypass androids upsampling and it is made to recognize your specific DAC and make initial adjustments accordingly. You can download a Magisk module that will allow you to change the fingerprint of your device to pass safety net and use banking apps. There is a Sony music Magisk module as well if you can't live without it, but USB Audio Player Pro can be used with Bubble Unpnp to stream from your Google drive folder, or use the Air Audio app and Magisk module to stream while avoiding too much degradation in audio quality. Then, when the official Android 10 ULM update comes out, you many need to use QFIL to update and keep root but until then you only need the modded LGUP.

Thanks for info, I am not entirely sure but I understand using this method you have to load the bootloader of another mobile model from LG, will this have any effect on the remaining functionality of the mobile itself.

Android 12 personal build

If somebody wanna to try my personal build of phh treble A12 with 01/05/22 security patch let me know and we figure out how to share. Keep in mind I don’t use Telegram .
Some info:
it's made with mind for regular use of device as phone not fancy or gaming machine.
Sms,calls,voip calls,navigation priority for me.Very slim rom!
I’m not put here some warning – you already understand all risk when using custom roms! Right? If not what are you doing here!
In short - phh aosp gsi and all credits to him and team.
Tested and adjusted for Nord10 5G BE86AA ATT provider, vendors 11.02 and 11.03, not rooted unlocked bootloaders.
Runs already w/o trouble over 2 mnts on 2 phones.
English only (no localization), diff keyboard layouts works,su, rw system, MicroG with sig spoofing, bromite webview, patched Captive portal (read here),
Cloudflare dns,dev option enabled, soft display option.
Removed useless overlays for phone, fixed voip call sound, ims, prefered network 5G enable, media sound over BT works.
Voip calls tested on Signal,Wire and WhatsUp with domestic and oversea calls.
My bank app working fine,gMaps works (but I’m using Magic Earth),fingerprint,otg-usb,Bluetooth in 2 cars, bluetooth to my pc.
I left pph treble app in case.
Many small changes, some hard coded some in build.props
I don’t use any google stuff or g Pay ,Amazon pay or any other pays so don’t know would it work or not. If you need it get something like pe and enjoy google+aftermarket s**t.
Only Foss apps
You need Calendar,Calculator,Messenger if you don’t like Signal (preinstalled) and good Music app.
I’m personally using Signal,Wire and Element, my wife Signal,Whatsup, security camera apps w/o trouble. Some apks not upstream versions.
I'm old school Linux guy - don't fix if it works is my philosophy. But on rw system you easily can rm and install what ever you like or update from Fdroid.

I'm sorry I am really confused about the right method coming from a samsung device where the procedure was quite different. Dont I need vbmeta.img or something? Inside the file the installation method is as below:
unlock bootloader,no root needed.
Tested on android 11.02/11.03 vendor, not sure about 10
RW version.
from terminal:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot reboot fastboot
fastboot flash system nord-S-RW.img
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot
Enjoy!
Some times take upto 5 min to boot,
if not try restart again
Which method do I use?
