GCAM with aux lens working [No Root] - OnePlus 7T Themes, Apps, and Mods

Today i found a thread here on xda claiming that a developer named Wichaya has a gcam port in which all the lens work completely fine.
I went ahead and downloaded the latest version and loaded the respective config file. Everything works perfectly in the port. I'll share the link for everyone to try and test it.

All lenses are working... but in my case, the macro lens cannot focus. Anyone else is experiencing this?

Installed on my OP7T and everything seems to work correctly. But does anyone know which "AWB in HDR+ Enchanced" setting is best? It gives me 3 options (Pixel 3, Pixel 2, & IMX586).
I don't really notice a difference between the 3 options.

Our phone doesn't have any dedicated macro lens, instead it uses ultra wide lens for taking macro photos when using OnePlus camera app I think,, though I'm not 100% sure about it. 7T has 48MP wide (main rear cam), 12MP 2x telephoto and 16MP ultra wide. That's why a specific 'macro' button isn't there in the Gcam screen on 7T, like it shown on that XDA thread which I think that phone has a dedicated macro lens.

I clicked 3 photos in 3 different AWB settings and i can say that Pixel 2 AWB has the warmest color rendition whileas Pixel 3 AWB has somewhat lowered down warmth. The IMX586 AWB has the closest to real life color rendition. You can test it in greenery and blue skies, where the difference is clearly visible

Can someone help me understand the 3 buttons that's appear on the botton left hand side after loading the XML configs. I am interested in the first two actually. One with the SUN icon and the second with the finger pointing.

This makes sense, considering that's what sensor the 7T uses.
I could be wrong. I honestly do rarely claim to know what I'm talking about
However, seeing that it's apparently still being used in newer models of OnePlus as well as numerous other manufacturers and models (262 in total, counting the 7T) according to this kimovil.com page, I wouldn't be surprised if before too long we start to see improved versions of the algorithms used in this camera on other (arguably better) models find their ways to the 7T.
Edit:
Check out GSMArena's camera compare tool between the 7T, the Asus ROG Phone 2 and the Nubia Magic 3. All three use the same sensor. Since the sensor's the same, it begs the question: Is the hardware between the sensor and the OS any different, or is the improvement of photo entirely in firmware?
I wouldn't mind having photos like that ROG 2 come out of my 7T! Look at any fine detail area, but I like comparing the "Series 2013" on the five-dollar bill of the "good light" sample. I gotta say though... I didn't look at the "low light" sample before, but our 7T (stock) does better in low light than the other two I chose for comparison. Maybe there's something to be said for it -- especially considering night-time photography is a thing I want to play with...

Yes, there is a lot of difference in the algorithms of every smartphone vendor. Despite all of them having the same hardware, the details, color, white balance etc. all come out to be different. Like everybody wants to have GCam because of the Image Signal Processing it provides, which is way better than any other manufacturer.

Any idea how to enable 10 bit recording in bt 2020?

It works but slow motion recording crashes the app. It also takes time to switch between the cameras. Any solutions for these issues?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is what I have been waiting for since getting this phone. Wow what a difference this makes. My only question is how can I adjust the sharpness of the front selfie camera? Like all Gcam apps the selfie camera is way too strong and the sharpness needs to be toned down but I cant find any of the settings to do this.

Any possibility of getting full resolution with Gcam mod, it is giving only 12MP in rear camera

I've been using this mod for quite a while but couldn't figure out a way to get the DNG (RAW files) working well with any editing apps ??*

Using newest Wichaya 3.1.1 and it is fantastic. Very accurate pictures, (too accurate, if you have an ugly face like moi. The night shot is slightly slower than stock, but works well. Also, the macro actually zooms closer than stock by a good margin! Use the wide angle lens and just zoom in!

Do the aux lenses work with the new Android 11 beta?

Updated my OnePlus 7T to Android 11 Beta 2 and, unfortunately, it looks like the only lens working is the main one. The others just show a black screen but at least it doesn't crash.

P10 Camera Talk Thread

anyone have success in running google pixels camera on P10 for HDR +, and what other camera apps You use ?
I use Cortex camera for quality slow photography (multi processing) like S8 but much more frames (s8 takes 3 photos and combine them) Cortex use 10 - 100 photos for best quality.
I also use A better camera, but still missing Super sensor option on P10 for best output.
Stock camera use too much sharpening for landscapes and distance objects, but it is fine for near objects...
I've not had any problems with the stock camera and can't get Google pixel camera to install.

Looks mostly fine to me when shooting horizontal panoramas. The only vertical panorama I've shot is blurry on one half and I don't like manual switching between shooting vertical and horizontal panoramas. Overall I like samsung's panorama user experience better but I think I'll live

Yes but stack bw & color photo? result is fine details but also some noise is present.
The P10 raw image have very high dynamic range. So it can stack them like the Pixel does.

Just casually run into this thread (I own a Mi5s) since I have also looked for alternatives to Google's multiframe hdr+.
On the Mi5s Cortex works wonderfully on low light still subjects. But my favorite app is Snap Hdr Camera on multiframe Nightmode (usually set to 4-8 frames) for those shots that require iso 400-2000, much faster than Cortex, and better than Better Camera on my phone. Incidentally Almalence, Better Camera's developper has licensed its technology to Huawei in the past.
Is there a way to completely disable all the beautification and bokeh options for the front camera? I don't like the effect at all and disabling it every time can't be the only solution.
That's weird. On my phone, it's only on if i left it on the last time I used the camera..

Will ported GCam take advantage of the S20 Ultra hardware?

Hello,
I have a silly question but I am very curious about it so I thought I would ask the experts .
Would a ported Google Camera take advantage of the S20 Ultra hardware or would it produce exactly the same photos as on Pixel? For example, would the Portrait mode improve for photos from the rear camera since S20 Ultra has ToF sensor and Pixel doesn't?
Or would pictures in general improve assuming there would be pixel binning from S20 Ultra and Google's HDR+?
Thank you for your insight
Rule of thumb is GCAM will always increase quality, Historically a custom build would need to be built and will most likely need root to take advantage of all 3 cameras. Most likely it will only be main cam.

So essentially while one could use GCam in certain situations it would never be a 100% replacement of the Samsung camera app, right? That's a shame, from the S20 Ultra reviews the picture quality (HDR) looked quite inconsistent which is not something I ever experienced with my Pixel, hence the idea of using GCam with S20.
I was especially curious about portrait mode from the rear camera with ToF which my Pixel doesn't have -> hopefully improved object separation, and Night Sight (if pixel binning is done on hardware level + software processing from Google).
I'm guessing pixel binning is done on hardware, so you'll only get 12MP photos from the main sensor using GCam. Historically only the main sensor + wide angle are exposed via camera2 API by Samsung, so those lenses will likely work fine. Remains to be seen if telephoto is exposed as well, GCam on that hardware zoom could be dope.

Pixel binning is done on the SW side. You can't change the size of the sensor hardware wise. It's always a 108mp sensor, and the SW bins it down to 12mp.

Well yea it's done in the software but I mean to GCam it'll likely show up as a 12MP sensor due to the firmware Samsung will bake into the ROM, meaning for our purposes it's essentially at hardware level. In their camera app the default is 12MP so that will likely be the format exposed. You see this with the selfie cameras in current Samsung phones which are 10MP but cropped to 6.5MP by default, and that's the only resolution we get in 3rd party apps.

I'm no expert, but I'm not sure this is the case. Guess time will tell.
Do you know if Samsung offer some custom camera SDK?
I mean Camera2 May be insufficient for the 108mp nonabinning sensor. Your average demosaic algorithm will make pitiful mess out of it.
So I think anything but dedicated software will make mess out of the camera.
Ideally one would like to set different exposure timing for the 9 sub pixels and do some weird maths to get large sensor like dynamic range for example. That is what is hot about this sensor. Running stupid software written for regular 12m sensor is waste.
I just took some photos at Best Buy, dont think Gcam is needed. Pics looked really good.

In my opinion, it is way too early to put much stock in any reviews being done on the S20 Ultra camera. It is so early - only a few handsets out right now - more will be shipped this week - and like most past samsung devices, Updates that improve and often fix issues that were discovered pre launch or even post launch, will surely address the issues (most if not all) that have been raised by these early reviews.
Bottom line, Samsung is putting a lot into the success of this phone and most of that success will be driven by it's camera. You can be sure that Samsung will do everything possible to make it the best that it can be. IMHO.

I think if eventually will, the level of functionally ported over will be a different thing.

Does S20+ Exynos camer has HDR issue?

Using Galaxy S20+ for about 2 weeks but noticed the HDR processing of the camera is very bad & everything in the sky is very over exposed and blown out. Every time taking a picture in indoor having a window on the shoot ether the sky on outside is very blown out or there is no light in room & some time both happens together. I'm wondering is there any HDR mechanism at all in the camera?

If you mean by the white tint at the curtain, thats the glare from the light on the camera lens. Can't be avoided by software.
I'm the old days, hdr is obtained by taking the same shot with higher exposure setting, normal exposure setting and lower exposure setting and combine all 3 into one.
In modern camera, it is done automatically and usually only up and down a few steps.
Unfortunately for your case, it require more than just a few steps. The brightness difference is just too great between outside and inside.
If you really want to take those unimpressive shots, what you can do is focus outside and set the exposure for outside. Then switch on the flash and use it as fill in flash. The shot will come out better.
But honestly try to take something better.

I'm taking about the blown out sky.
It's because the camera is exposing for the dark interior, and the sky outside is far too bright for even HDR to compensate for.
As mentioned, you can set the exposure for the sky outside, and use a fill flash to bring up the brightness of the room you're in.

There is no hdr in the world that can salvage that unless you do it manually or use an dslr and adjust the steps to larger steps.

why gcam over xiaomi stock cam app?

I'm using redmi note 8 for about 3 months. And i took pretty pictures with stock app. I tried gcam after I've seen a lot of people are using it. I mean why? First of all i couldn't use my ultra wide or macro lens. And ultra wide really captures nice landscape pics. What am i missing? I am doing a wrong thing with sticking to stock app? I just need enlightening
GCam produces higher quality pictures as far as i used it. The HDR mechanism is much more refined, the low light performance is miles better than the stock app, and you can use all the lenses using the right GCam build.

Question What is the zoom lens for?

Hi all. I am debating the switch from the regular 6 to the pro.
Looks I will be getting bigger higher refresh screen (pro) which is curved (con) and with worse battery life.
One thing that is not clear to me - is the zoom lens used in any other situations than when actively selecting it? For example - which of the lenses is being used when you select the portrait mode in the camera app? Is it using the telephoto lens to battle the fish eye effect?

It's a 4x telephoto, which is a lot for portraits (so portraits are taken using main camera at 2x magnification).
No, it's not being used for enhancing ultrawide. I suppose it's also because if the same reason mentioned above (OnePlus uses it's 2x tele for this as well).
Telephoto is really only useful for zooming 4x and up all the way to 20x, when photos are still kinda useful (depending on a scenario), thanks to being a 50 MP sensor and some Google's AI magic.
I take a lot of zoomed pictures and I don't mind curved display. Battery is okay, 6 hours of SOT are real for me, usually on social networks and news scrolling. Sometimes I play a League of Legends, than it will drop to 4-5 hours.
Zoom lens is for... zooming in. I would think that would be self-explanatory?
It kicks in when the magnification reaches about 4.5x. Switching between sensors is exclusively a matter of changing the magnification level, not by "selecting" a particular camera. There are other details considered before switching sensors, such as exposure requirements.
You can tell which sensor is in use by briefly blocking sensors with your finger. When you see your finger on the screen, you found the sensor that is in use.
Yeah, thanks
What was not clear to me was if it is being used when shooting portrait photos, as some phones (e.g. Oneplus) do.
Looks like this is not the case.
I will stick with my vanilla 6 then, not missing out on much, subjectively.
