I have an Nvidia Shield Pro with the original 500 GB hard drive. It is either from 2015 or 2017....not sure off the top of my head. I believe the hard drive may have failed as when I turn on the device it just sits on the Nvidia logo and does not boot. In addition, I can hear a beeping noise coming from the Shield.
What are my options to get this back up and running? I do have a 250 GB SSD laying around. Is it possible to throw that into the Shield Pro and if so, how do I get the drive "prepped" for use in the Shield?
Thanks,
Chris

Check out the SSD thread for instructions. If your drive is 100% gone you have lost your DRM keys and will no longer be able to use apps that require them. The thread has all the directions for grabbing these keys.

I would let you know that the beeping noise is Bad. Shut down the drive and try to extract your widevine keys ASAP. I lost mine because my drive failed and I only could recover the first 3.3 MB of the drive.

I am the proud owner for 3, Nvidea Shield pro 500gb. So of course one drive has crapped out, lets call it 3rd, and the 2 working ones 1st and 2nd. Yes it is the drive and not the shield, I am a computer tech and tested the drive to confirm. So I am also a Linux Guru, and successfully cloned the mechanical drive from 1st , to an ssd same size, using linux DD command. However when i put new drive in the 3rd shield it wont boot. I get the Green LED on for about 1-2 seconds then nothing, hook up to a computer and see APX mode. Take the new SSD back out and put it in the 1st ( cloned shield ) of course it works. OK, take good SSD and put it is working 2nd, I get same Geen LED for 1-2 seconds. Light Bulb moment, This tells me that the drives are Married/Paired to the original device. So APX mode does not nessasarily mean dead for ever, just not the correct drive in the Shield. Nvidea techs, or anyone, please , please ,please tell us how to correctly replace a dead drive from a working shield .

lol the platters are basically the same , the disk controller/driver motors and buffers are the big diff. besides my array was SATA. what happened is that my old nforce board had a fan over the southbridge that stopped functioning. it overheated and begin working erratically until it just stopped. this is a big piss off cause that board isnt available anymore and i lost the array. so I upgraded to a pentium d 925/ 4coredual-vsta board from asrock. got to keep my old geforce 6600 and can upgrade slowly. I had to use my backup computer with unbuntu and my powerbook for a little over a week. it wasnt a super experience but it worked. then on top of all that my DSL modem died! I have a cisco adsl modem on its way but now Im using a backup dsl modem.

I've run MySQL, MSSQL, Access, Alpha ISAM on x86 TSR, all on Adaptec/Promise RAID IDE/SATA and Adaptec, Perc, Compaq, DPT... RAID SCSI all under business application, monitor the bad sector count as they rise on IDE/SATA, SCSI just keeps truckin... Then there was always the little problem with the raid tables being stored on the drive under IDE/SATA media, when the disk is full, the tables get overwritten... -Nice feature for creating more disk space...
It has been my experience that cheaper media cannot take the pounding of constant writes when OS flushes cache to disk, beyond that, the features of the cheaper raid solution just don't fall within mission critical requirements.

it really depends on the manufactuer. google just finished a drive reliability study concluding that there was no real difference between any particular drive manufacturers enterprise and consumer drives as far as reliability go. I have had only 1 consumer hard drive fail on me in over 10 years. all I had to do was mount it upside down though and it keeps on trucking. the diff between scsi and ide are in the way the controller writes data to the disk and reads. the platters are for the most part the same. more expensive drives have better motors heads and on board controllers and warranties. in either case it was not the drives that failed it was the nforce raid controller that overheated.
Hey guys, i don't know if this has been addressed before or not. Is it possible to use the Evo as a USB Host, that is to say, (in my case) connect my DSLR to my Evo and download pictures so i can upload them to tumblr etc or flash drives to get files etc.
or am i just shooting in the dark here?

do you have a cable to even connect the two? micro to mini (if its a canon/nikon, if im not mistaken) micro to micro (pentax), beause else you'll need a powered hub according to the first link posted.
I just thought to start researching the status of otg usb and usb host mode on the evo. And to my surprise this is the only crappy thread I've come across. I cannot find an anwser as to if the evo has the hardware to support it. I know that the n1 droid and maybe the incredible support usb host mode even if u need a single its still something I want to know. I would drool over connecting usb flash drives, keyboards, game controllers etc to my evo. Someone else please show interest in this.
i concur. i'd love to be able to plug my ipod/DSLR/flash drive into my phone to upload/download files. i'd be willing to donate to make this happen

It's a similar device to the Evo, so maybe there is hope for the Evo to get it?
would like to bring this one back I just got a program called DSL controller it says my phone wont do usb host. Not sure if there is a kernel I need or if there is a ROM I can run etc.
I just ordered the cable I need for my phone and camera. So if anyone knows of a ROM that may do this please advise.
Any one try this yet? Do not want to spend the money till I see some one had it working
I too desperately wanted this to work... After buying the host-mode cable, trying various methods to allow "host-mode" on the evo, and trying a bazillion different combinations of settings - the DSLR controller software *always* gives me a "your device does not support USB host mode" error. I'm afraid this is dead in the water. DSLR Controller does, however, work nicely on my Asus Transformer tablet
I just got my kickstarter edition and was trying to sideload apps through usb port in ouya. At first when I plugged in the usb lights went on but nothing showed up on ouya. After fiddling the USB drive and pushing in a bit more, the drive showed up. I realised that any USB I try I have to insert it and fiddle it till it gets a connection and carefully leave it at that angle otherwise it wont detect.
Anyone else facing same issue?

android doesn't natively support ntfs in the first place. Samsung and a few other phone/tablet manufacturers add their own ntfs drivers but android on its own doesn't have them and the license for a company to add them is quite expensive (ntfs is patented and needs licensing from Microsoft) so I doubt the ouya has the drivers.
The usb issue sounds like a dodgy connection between the socket and motherboard, most likely a broken solder join (applying pressure as you are will cause further damage btw). An email to ouya support might be in order. Or if you are brave a quick session with a soldering iron should have it sorted easily.
Loose connector can also be fixed by applying pressure to the topside of the socket to bend it inwards but you can do more harm than good, an email might be an idea again.

So what file system other than fat32 does android support cause I was kinda annoyed when my ext3 drives didnt get recognized, I thought they would have drivers for them since its a linux format. So far I've been able to get fat32 and ntfs to work.

FAT16? Thats pretty much it. Ext3 drives do work on android but I think some root + terminal usage is needed first. ExFat and NTFS are both patented so arent guaranteed to work on all devices unless the manufacturer has licensed the patent, technically custom roms adding support for these filesystems would be in violation of the law but I doubt M$ would bother chasing it up.
My usb port its working well. I bough an usb hub with 5 ports and also works too. Now i have connected 2 memory sticks, cable keyboard, cable mouse and 360 xbox controller
This usb hub doesnt need to be outpowered, the own usb port into ouya handles with it without problem

You don't need that app. From skimming the page I think ouya already does all of that out of the box. Read through the threads about file format compatibility.

I have my 2TB NTFS drive running properly on my ouya but you need 2 things to make it work.
First you have to root your ouya second you need an app called "stickmount".
There are other apps that should work but stickmount works great for me.

USB Fix
Hi, I'm not sure how common this problem is. but, here's what fixed me.
First off I emailed OUYA support:
They replied to update firmware and test with wired mouse at "play" screen. at that point if the mouse does not work, you have verified there is a problem with the port itself.
Their next suggestion was to return it to the store where I bought it.
So, Naturally, I took it apart:
BEFORE YOU CONTINUE:: look at the usb port on your assembled console. inside you will see 2 prongs along the inside. they provide the required tension to keep good contact on the 4 usb connections and serve as a ground. Try using a small exacto knife, screw driver, or even a toothpick to bend them in a tiny bit. you want it feel snug when you inset a usb device. Not Tight, you shouldn't have to force it, but it shouldn't feel loose.
IF THAT FIXED YOUR PROBLEM:: then... go have fun! otherwise, read on.
SIDENOTE:: you might want to mark/note the orientation of the the console lid before removing, it's not overly obvious which way it goes on at reassembly.
The USB is part of a USB HDMI unijack, soldered onto the board.
SIDENOTE:: The board is grounded to the frame via a stamped metal prong that acts like a latch preventing you from removing the board. Do yourself a favor, use flashlight, don't break the prong.
Once, you have it out the solder joints you are concerned with are the 4 larger ones in a row (not the 4 that ground the housing of the unijack)
After re-soldering those 4 I can use a 16GB ntfs no problem.
None of my USB Storage Drives would work! My PSx Controller did though.
It required a Factory Reset. Now all my drives are working as they should.
There is a FAT32 format tool posted over in the Ouya Forums:
http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?3589-Formatting-Hard-Drive-to-FAT32&p=35834&viewfull=1#post35834
Format your drive using that tool. If that doesn't work, Factory Reset and try again.

Not sure. But USB 3.0 flash drives are getting pretty cheap. You can pick up a 32gb sandisk ultra for about 15 bucks at Walmart or 16 for $10. If you don't mind waiting, I'm sure you could find them even cheaper online.
Its not really a solution but the faster the better. Have you done any basic trouble shooting? Maybe remove it then reinsert and wait a couple of minutes? Reboot with USB in, reboot without then insert...if using a hub try it without.
I haven't had any issues but I'd be surprised if aftv mounted every flash drive on the market. That's rarely the case on other devices. Good luck.
*I don't think the format matters. Aftv should automatically format and prepare the drive.

You may want to check in Developer options. I think if you have ADB Debugging or Unknown Sources (can't remember which one) enabled it won't recognize the usb port. At least that was the case with the latest firmware.
BOOM!!!!! Solved. Turned all dev options off and it recognised it straight away. Will check them one by one later on. Thank you good sir!!!!

I need some help and advice from someone who knows what they are talking about.
I have a Nextbook Flexx 11 and I love it! Most people who own one generally do love them. it is an 11.6" 2 in 1 tablet with detachable keyboard. I am currently dual booting windows 10 and Android 4.4 kitkat. Im using Android X86 and no one I mean no one can get the audio to work on baytrail, not even the dev himself, so its virtually useless
My question is:
My computer and the Pipo w3f both use the baytrail z3735f and most of the other hardware is similar or the same. It is UEFI and the secure boot can be and is disabled. I found a guide and images to use the dual boot bios and android/windows OS's for the Pipo w3f here:
http://techtablets.com/2015/03/pipo...s-and-how-to-flash-the-pipo-w3f-to-dual-boot/
Can I do this to my PC (The Nextbook Flexx 11) without screwing it up?
Here are my specs for the 2 PCs:
Nextbook Flexx 11:
http://www.hardreset.info/devices/efun/efun-nextbook-flexx-11/specs/
Pipo w3f:
http://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/b25e327f
Anyone? Please?
Just curious did you try? Would not advice you to do this because some of the specs are not the same especially display resolution and lcd size and even if they are the same only one setting in the bios can make your device a brick.
I have been doing my own research into the audio issue with these devices and feel I may have some information that may help. I have a tarp backup of the Nextbook Ares 8a which uses the exact same board as mine and yours. Also I noticed this comment in my own recovery log files before. In the very beginning of the log it states "device has no real sound card" which leads me to believe it uses a virtual sound card or one that has been programmed in. The x86 versions of Android would not contain the programming for such a card as most tablets have one built into the board itself. You may be able to fix the audio by coping the lib.so files for the sound from a Nextbook backup and it may fix the audio. You would have to add a comment in the manifest file for each added file. I found 3 or 4 files that were commented that may need to be copied. After discovering this I am almost positive that is why there is no working sound when installing x86 on these Nextbook devices. I would be more than happy to try this modification but my nextbook does not boot... Hope that helps
---------- Post added at 08:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:30 AM ----------
You could try flashing your Nextbook with the image from the other device you posted about above but make sure you make a backup before doing so. It does not take much difference in the configuration of 2 devices that use the same system board to brick a device. I gave my suggestion above simply because the ares 8a and the ares 11a virtually use the exact same board. Only difference in the configuration is the screen size and ram. Your pill w3f device may have a completely different configuration for their sound or memory or the screen may be made by a different manufacturer which would most likely cause major issues and could damage or brick your Nextbook. Flashing anything that was not made specifically for your device is extremely risky. However they are both Intel based devices which utilize plug and play and can handle most configurations. Something Intel is very well known for is it's universal compatibility.

I'm not so sure that's exactly true, the Ares 8A uses NX16A8116 or NX16A8116k while as far as I can tell the ares 11a uses NX16A19132SPX but admittedly, the boards look very similar and perhaps only differs in revision number. But in either case, I am sure that the Nextbook Flexx 11 is different than the Nextbook Ares 11a as one comes with windows and the other with android. So to make the comparison between the two would be under the wrong assumption and I can guarantee the motherboard for the Flexx 11 is different than the Ares 8A as I just took my Flexx 11A (NXW116QC264) which uses a NXM1106BFP motherboard and it doesn't even look like the board for the ares 8A.
I appreciate the good intentions but would advise the OP against what you're suggesting to be similar when there seems to be a mistake of differentiation in the particular model being discussed. (See Nextbook Flexx 11A & Nextbook Ares 11A (Gen2))

As for the OP, I'm willing to volunteer as tribute if you happen to have another mirror for the files (as the ones on the page you linked seems to be overwhelmed and extremely slow to respond--appears it's linked to a Google Drive account), my Flexx 11 has been bricked ever since I changed a BIOS setting and won't boot at all. If I have it connected to the keyboard then it will light up but that's it. Nothing on screen, can't be detected when attached by USB to a PC, nor will the microUSB power on a thumb drive plugged in. So, worth a try if I can even get into the EFI shell. But, I'll keep trying to download and see what I can do...
I apologize as it appears you are correct that the 2 boards are indeed different. I should have done my research better before i posted that. However it appears you and I seem to have a simular problem with our devices as I too messed with the bios settings and cannot get it to boot or do anything but sit at the first nextbook splash screen. However i think i may have figured out what settings i changed that messed it up. I actually have 3 nextbook flexx 11a devices. In bios there is an option in all 3 to either boot to windows or android however i changed the usb option that makes the micro usb port work in host mode or to my own belief makes it into a charging port and otg connection without needing the otg adapder. This has caused an issue as windows does not see the device now as i need an otg cable to hook it to windows and that seems to reverse the effect since it is already in otg mode. My next option is to take 2 usb cables and make both ends into micro usb and hook it to a rooted tablet and see if since i removed the need for an otg adapder if the tablet will read it in adb. If that made any sense at all... give me your thoughts on this as i am now using the board from one of the other 2 nextbooks and those are the 1gb ram versions and i need to fix the 2gb version which is much much better.

Also. Have you tried hooking a regular keyboard up and smashing the Esc key at boot. It should boot it to the bios which worked on one of my 1gb versions.

There's no need for apology as it would seem no harm no foul since the OP hasn't seemed to come around to reply in any sort of meaningful way. Though I am inspired by your humility and would admit I vaguely recall spending too much time looking into the matter before making that response, so I may have been too involved to be so precise in the details whereas a brief, call check, may have sufficed.
And to you my apologies as it's taken me a global pandemic and a a few months, nearing 2 years just to get back to you. Seems the notification email slipped through the cracks but somehow funitan's reply set one off.

I can't remember what I changed specifically because I do remember fiddling with the settings to see what some of them that were labelled less obvious to see what it would do. And of course, to my dismay, it suddenly stopped showing any sign of on-screen life. However, that does sound like something I'd enable because I might've been trying to install linux on the little guy in the hopes of speeding it up. If that's the case, then even plugging it into one of those micro USB hubs with an HDMI port and card reader didn't seem to do the trick.

Omg, when I read that it totally made sense and also made me chuckle to myself because I thought you were going to say, you were going to do a double otg to reverse the reversed OTG lol but clearly that was just my wild ADD imagination trying to sneak it's way into the conversation. Since it's been awhile since then I'm hoping you already tried and wonder if you had any luck?
BUt if it's not obvious, I'd say that was a good idea when you brought up using ADB, I mean heck I recently came across an old thread of mine for debricking an Asus device and was considering using the FTP debricker on the nextbook just to give it a try so if you haven't already, I'd be chanting, Dooooo it doooo it doooo it!

I've tried a lot of things but I'm not sure if i tried that one. I do rememeber plugging in a regular keyboard, trying to load a bootable OS on a micro sd card, tried to boot a usb live boot, heck I even bought an EPROM flaher to try and clip on to the bios to reset it with a more hardcore hardware style hack but couldn't get it to read a signal (just too newb honestly). Afer the EPROM flasher I said I need to stop committing time in my life to this fruitless endeavor and wrapped her up and put her under the bed....but now i'm thinking of taking her out after discovering your post from years ago.
Though there's a good chance I'll be immediately reminded of a past attempt and think, oh yea i did try that, it didnt effin work, and probably imagine throwing it out my window another 50 times before leaving it on a desk somewhere for a couple weeks so that every time I walk by it I could waste energy looking at it in resentment like it did something to deserve being a bricked device...until I finally say, man i need to clean up, and wrap it up and put it away again LOL

Have you tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting the batter? How long did you wait for it while it was "stuck" More than a day or just a few minutes?
Yes I also tried by disconnecting the battery and leaving it connected for at least 2 hours but remains blocked
When I disconnect the battery it takes several restarts for the nextbook symbol to appear again but then it remains blocked
i also tried hooking a regular keyboard up and smashing the Esc key at boot but it is the same result
I also tried to find a key like F12 to have the choice of boot and launch a usb boot windows key but not found or impossible to start
So in summary:
1° if I turn on the nextbook with the power button, here is the result: NEXTBOOK is displayed on the screen but remains frozen indefinitely
2° If I turn on the nextbook with the power button and keep the ESC button pressed here is the result: Esc is pressed Go to boot options is displayed on the screen but remains frozen indefinitely
Qui peut m'aider ?
There is nobody ?
