Is this a new or refurb 2XL I got? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I got a Pixel 2 XL (128 GB)as replacement for my dead OGXL which I received today. But I wonder whether this is a refurb model. Those of you who bought the phone brand new, did you noticed any such stickers like this? I am from India, so if there is any Indian 2XL owners here that would be even better.

A more important question is this: does it matter? I mean, if it works as expected then it really shouldn't matter.

@Ragarianok: The difference is that the OP could be one of those unfortunate souls who purchased an unlocked device and had it replaced under warranty, only to find out the bootloader was permanently locked.
@ithehappy, new Pixel 2XL devices didn't come with that sticker. At least, mine didn't.

Could you please tell me what that logo on the sticker means, the knot like one I mean? Also whether R stands for Refurbished here? I am a bit too old to search for all these myself.

I don't think the knot has any particular meaning in regards to the rest of the label, but I'm still looking. This label, in general, says the device complies with European health and safety regulations. The wastebin with the X through it should be self explanatory.
A refurb would be clearly marked in some fashion so you knew it was a refurb. For example, one of my 4TB external drives has "Recertified" stamped on it while the other drive does not. That is because the first drive was sent in for warranty service and returned with that label stamped into the plastic housing, while the second drive has worked flawlessly from the first day it was used.

Dead pixel One X

Just noticed a dead pixel on the screen. Will i get a replacement if send it to HTC in UK? I bought it on ebay, new and locked on T-mobile, so i don`t have a proof of purchase or something like that, only the IMEI stickers.
one dead pixel does not normally count towards a warranty replacement - thats for any company, not just HTC. you normally would need three or four

might unstick it. try running it for about 20 minutes
If it doesn't work, speak to htc live chat tomorrow morning, arrange for them to pick up your device, and send it back to you. taken about 10 days,, they picked up mine on wednesday via UPS, it is in repair at the moment!
Again, please use one of the existing threads about dead pixels, screen issues or other complaints. There are plenty to chose from

Sticker on the back, is that normal?

I recently bought a second hand T-700 and it came with a sticker on the back with the model, serial number, internal storage size and a barcode.
The guy who sold me this devices didn't gave me any receipt (even if I asked for it) and it was a bit vague on that.
I've never seen similar stickers on other devices so, since it is a second hand device, i'm wondering if it is refurbished or even stolen XD.
There's a way to check if it is a legit device?

Verizon says they can't activate a Google pixel xl

Bought a Google pixel xl off swappa. Says he never had the phone activated. I think I read that if a pixel is on fi it won't work on another network. Took the pixel xl to Verizon to get a new sim. They asked for the ime number. His tablet said Verizon can't activate the device or acknowledge the device because it's not a Verizon device or something. I did do a network reset in settings. Any ideas?
My Pixel XL and wife's Pixel are both Google purchased phones running on Verizon. All I did was take the sim chip out of my Google purchased Nexus 6 and put it in my Pixel XL. My wife's old phone had the wrong size sim chip so we took it into a Verizon store to get activated.

Project Fi devices can be used on other networks as long as they have been paid for in full and the device is no longer linked to a Project Fi account. I don't know the specifics of Verizon though. If you buy a Pixel from Verizon the bootloader is locked. If you buy a Pixel anywhere else the bootloader can be unlocked. If the Verizon rep told you they wouldn't active a non Verizon device it's possible that Verizon changed their bring your own phone policy (which is something some carriers like Virgin Mobile do not allow you to do) or that they changed their policy specifically for Pixels because they don't want the unlockable versions on their network. It's also possible you got a bad customer service rep who was misinformed and that you need to call back and speak to someone else.
There are also a couple of other possibilities. You might have purchased a stolen phone that is blacklisted or that your seller is on the up and up but needs to contact Project Fi to deregister the device with them before you can register it someplace else. I've had this happen with other carriers when I sold used phones I no longer wanted to keep.
I'm thinking about selling my Pixel XL because I'm not thrilled with it and contacted Pixel support yesterday to get some info. They said there was no restriction on my selling the device (which isn't even 6 weeks old) and that the warranty from the Google Store and the extended warranty I purchased could both be transferred to the new owner.
The thing you read about Project Fi devices not being usable on other networks was a temporary glitch where they were black listing former devices in error. It isn't Project Fi policy to prevent members from taking their phones to another carrier or selling them as long as the phone has been paid for. If you purchased a Pixel through the Fi Store rather than Google you can't change carriers with that phone until its been completely paid for.

Good luck.
I actually bought my pixel XL from Google, and got on a plan with Verizon. Originally they said they couldn't do it. They asked for my imei and kept telling me it wouldn't allow the phone to be activated or that it was invalid.
I knew a bit more than the Verizon rep, so i asked if he can just use his phone and Imei to activate the SIM card, and then I'd take the activated sim card and slide it into the pixel.
I had to help a friend do this also, Verizon is picky when it comes to phones not purchased from them. And they are real quick to say "since it's not a Verizon pixel it won't work", at least that's what I got multiple times

I knew that was it! He kinda acted shady abt activating it. Once he entered the IMEI number do you think the phone is now flagged by Verizon on their system?
Do they have to have the IMEI number anyways?

It isn't flagged. You got a VZ rep that didn't know what they were doing. Very common. Go to a corporate store, better chance of finding someone that has a clue.

That will work perfectly for you.
I got my Pixel yesterday, from VZW, it was the last one they had. I dropped it this morning, which cracked the screen, and was thinking of getting one from Gooble. So I can unlock the bootloader, I prefer my own Android builds, even though there's really not a lot of bloatware on this device and it is running Andy 8.0 DP3.
I'm on the fence, I cannot get by without a phone, friends are recommending many different devices (so I will develop some ROMs, of course), but I really want a Pixel and Verizon is my only option for a carrier...

I will. Gotta do the father's day stuff in a few and then I'll stop by to activate my Verizon n6. I think it's a easy activation, it's just the Reps and their sales tactics. I have read that the Verizon Pixel can't be unlocked now with the new update. Just a heads up

Be careful. I bought my first Nexus 6P from an Amazon seller and she was a scammer --although her feedback looked good when I made the purchase. She provided a tracking number and the day it was supposed to arrive I anxiously waited. Then I got a text that the package was delivered but I had no package. Initially I thought UPS had misdelivered the package but then I noticed that according to the tracking number it had been delivered to a completely different state. I checked her feedback again and found she had done the exact same thing to a bunch of other buyers. When she wouldn't return any messages and her feedback kept going down it was apparent she was a scammer. I reported her to Amazon and it took them two weeks to suspend her account --during which time she sold at least 30 more phones. It also took forever to get a refund from Amazon since it involved a fraud investigation. I'm much more careful with third party sellers on Amazon, particularly for anything expensive although third party sellers offering cheap Chinese knock off products are also very common on Amazon. Like I said, be careful. People have reported buying new computers from third party sellers on Amazon that had bootleg versions of Windows installed with a key generator program that was still installed on the computer.

How do you know if it's a 3rd party?
Activating my Nexus 6 at Verizon then using that same sim to power my pixel XL worked like a charm.

Verizon pixel 2 warranty , I am not on Verizon

I bought new pixel 2 xl on swappa. I checked imei on BYOD and recycling imei checker, checked fine. However when I tried checking on warranty Google support said it is not eligible. What could be the issue? Do I have to activate it on Verizon ? How do I do that if I am not on Verizon (TMobile).See part of the chat below.
James3:06 AM The tool does not allow us to pull up the information for the device as this device is not eligible for warranty options from Google, you will have to check with the retailer for this case. But till the time the we are not able to pull up the records with the IMEI number of your device.
Me
Thanks , when you say device is not eligible is that for all Verizon pixel or there is issue with this specific device?
James3:15 AM It's not for all Verizon pixels nor the device. James3:16 AM There might be any issues with the Verizon team. May be because of the IMEI is not updated.

What Google means is because you purchased your phone from a reseller, any warranty you may have is with that reseller and NOT Google. When you purchase through the Play Store, the phone is automatically registered and THEIR warranty (and return) terms are much better. Many ppl buy the phone and are shocked to discover they cannot return the phone to Google, they have to deal directly with the reseller who may or may not have an agreement with Google. This is especially common with people who buy the phone in unsupported countries, or buy it in a supported country and then move to an unsupported one... and then have a warranty claim. No doubt you got a better deal through swappa, maybe you should consider purchasing an insurance policy on the phone.
I read that it is based on imei if you buy it from Verizon. He also said that they would normally would have access to imei but in this case they don't. I want to know why. Also this phone was never activated before. Also Google offers 2 years warranty on all new pixels even Verizon ones.
Basically what does this mean ?

Verizon sucks, but now what?

I bought my Pixel 2 XL off eBay with the hope of rooting but didn't check to make sure whether it was a Verizon or Google variant but unfortunately I got a Verizon variant. I know everybody's going to say sell it and buy a Google one but I can't afford to right now. Is there anything I can do as far as customization? I'd wanted to try substratum but unfortunately upgraded to Pie. Anyone have any ideas?
Installing a custom launcher and an icon pack is still an option, and there is ad blocking available that doesn't need root. That's about all I can think of.

Send it in for a refurbished unit, alot of them come back unlocked versions.
Well, you are 100% right about Verizon, they do suck big-time. Sell that phone and get the Google unlocked one, even if you have to borrow the money. Good luck.
@d33dvb: That's a bit difficult. Ebay is not an authorized reseller according to Google's Terms and Conditions, and thus he doesn't have any warranty at all. Plus, how do you define "alot" here? Based upon my recollection of events, the bulk of the refurb devices sent back were Verizon units.
I was so impressed with it I didn't decide to root till after the warranty was up so now I'm stuck with it. I may try to sell it but I'm just mad at myself for not doing more research on root for it before I bought it.
