The latest Galaxy S20 update is now rolling out to devices running on T-Mobile and Sprint’s network in the United States. This update was initially released in other markets earlier this week and brings camera improvements and the May security patch. Some countries had already received an update with the latest security patch at the beginning of the month, but that firmware wasn’t made available to carrier-locked variants in the US.
Featuring software version G98xUSQU1ATE6, the new update adds a close-up zoom toggle to the Camera app.

You are right that its your network who is releasing the update, but you are wrong in asking wrong person - maybe if you would wait for technical department they would give you more accurate answer to your query

But that actually *was* the Tech Support Department for Verizon, just the Chat Access version instead of the Telephone Voice access.
I think we are all in the same position - even unlocked users - no??? ATE6 was released but then ATE4 was released shortly afterwards with the June security patches. I'm not clear on whether this means certain fixes/functions were "rolled back" with the new version, or why Samsung did this. It does seem that a new version is making its way (ATF1) which we will all hopefully receive soon. I don't think Verizon is to blame here... we are all on ATE4 as the "latest."
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!
Well, crap, my dumb *ss is still on 4/9/2020 ---ATCT. :-\
The focusing of this s20+ is just crap up close.
I even had the S20Ultra and returned that within 14 days because it too had crap focusing, and was too big and my hands are monstrous.
WTF Samsung. Maybe I shoulda stayed with the Note10+
Meh
UPDATE! Well I just checked again and I guess I'm ok! Cause my S20+ says "Your SAMSUNG SM-G986U is up to date. No update is necessary at this time. OK".....

HTC-USA OFFICIAL TECH SUPPORT IS CLUELESS ABOUT THEIR OWN PRODUCTS.
Today is Thursday August 5th, 2010. I have not yet gotten the Froyo update. How do I get it. This is my scenario:
I am in USA, I have an unbranded, unlocked UK Desire (purchased the day they first went on sale in UK). My cell operator is T-Mobile USA. No, I don't have 3G and don't care. (T-Mobile USA wont offer good phones so I choose to buy good phones and give up 3g, since I use WIFI 80% of time anyway).
My firmware version still says: 2.1-update1
I have manually tried "Check Now" several times for the past 5 days to see if the update was ready for OTA download. NO. It always says "Your software is up to date."
(1) Has ANYONE from USA gotten the update on a UK Desire Phone?
(2) Does anyone know the rollout procedure? This is an unlocked phone that was bought without tied to a carrier. What kind of detection does HTC have regarding REGION of where you are located in determining when you are "next" to get the update?
thank you.
/quicksite
Currently it's only Europe that has the update. I'd say flash your phone with the Europe ROM but that would probably cause issues as T-Mo US uses a different radio frequency so you'd get no 3G.

Let me clarify:
1) I bought an unlocked Desire from the UK the day they first were shipped, the very first people at XDA developers who got a phone.
2) I chose this phone because I wanted it, even knowing T-Mobile USA sucks for not offering the phones I want -- the Hero last year, no. The Desire this year, no. Thus, I pay for European models and do without the 3G because I want the phones
3) It is also not true re just Europe. The Sprint EVO, which is the Desire for USA, on Sprint network, has the update.
4) I just spoke to HTC-USA support. They are about as incompetent as anyone to whom i have ever spoken. THEY sound like the "iPhone 4 buyer" in the infamous YouTube video comparing the Evo vs iPhone4... which is to say, they are blithering idiots.
a. I ask them when I will get my update. They said: it was already available 2 weeks ago for unlocked phones.
b. I asked where? They said: from http://developer.android.com
c. I went there while on the call and saw only a SDK download and asked, are you sure? He said, NO, no not that. You want the generic 2.2 download, because since you are not on a branded carrier phone, there is nothing that you need from the carrier.
d. I said "there is nothing here, can you find the link?"
e. After he searched he said, I cant find any link. he said "i can find a link on 3rd party sites but we cannot endorse them."
f. I said: I bought an HTC phone. How do I get an HTC approved 2.2 update?
g. he said, unfortunately, since you are in USA with T-mobile, and they don't carry this phone, you cannot get the update OTA. The signal won't reach you from the UK cell towers.
h. I said: Then how are the people in UK getting it?
i. He said: Their local cell towers are pushing it out?
j. Then if I can't get it OTA, where do I get it?
k. He says: Unfortunately I cannot find anything about it on any HTC website in Europe or North America. We do not host the downloads.
l. So how do I get it?
m. I'm afraid I don't know.
n. ME: I am calling HTC Support north america and you don't know how i am to get this update?? Should I call HTC Support UK since it is a UK purchased phone? (I was serious, not smartass)
o. No, they won't be able to help you since we have no files on UK site either.
p. This is pathetic. Will you please check with a supervisor and tell me who i should contact, or where i should leave a support trouble ticket to be able to be told where to download the update?
---
on hold
---
back
---
q. I'm sorry I told you wrong. You SHOULD be getting your update OTA.
r. How is that possible when you told me 10 minutes ago that I could not get it because it was being pushed from European cell towers and the signal could not be reached here? How NOW am i supposed to get it OTA?
s. I was mistaken. You had a WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY about 2 weeks ago and it must not have worked, so you have to hold on maybe another week or so until they come around again to your cluster.
t. what?
u. They release the OTAs in clusters, and yours has expired and so you will have to wait til it comes around again.
v. I have no faith at all in what you are telling me. Suddenly it's supposed to appear in my Software Updates -- and yet I missed the fact that it occurred already? How is that possible? I have manually checked it every day for past 2 weeks?
I then asked about IF i were to go to a THIRD PARTY SITE to download the 2.2 update, is it PHONE SPECIFIC? because that is what I kept reading HTC saying, that it takes time to port it over and test it per phone.
He said: No, it was ready 2 weeks ago, it didn't take long to test at all.
I asked: Are you sure? Isn't this supposed to have an update to Sense?
No. There's no update to Sense that I know of.
Are you sure? I thought there was? And that this was why it was taking so long. That HTC had to get Android 2.2 to work properly and have Sense work on top of it.
Not that I know of.
I asked: So, this update will enable 720p recording, and apps2sd?
He (HTC TECH SUPPORT): Well 720p is dependent on whether or not your phone is capable of it.
Me: What? I am calling HTC. Don't you even know your own phone? The DESIRE has been stated as being capable of it, as having a far greater sensor than necessary but the OS update is what will enable this feature. How can you not know that?
He: Well to be honest, I have not had a lot of time to play with the phones.
Me: I am astounded. I am a customer and I know your product line and you don't even have a clue. You have been zero help on this call. I am going to post about this whole experience on XDA developers (I am sure he didn't know what that was, anyway). I said "Are you sure you don't want to amend anything you've said?"
He: I'm sorry I got the OTA info wrong initially.
Me. Thank you, I have to go.
He: is there anything else I can help you with today?
me: Are you kidding me? No.
He: Well keep in mind you can get updates to support issues at our twitter channel 24/7.
Me: Oh please, no. is this the twitter/HTC channel?
He: Yes.
Me: You have got to be kidding me. Do you have any idea what gets posted on that channel?
He: Support news.
Me: NO! It posts about "See our latest TV ad for the Aria on Jimmy Kimmel Show tonight" ... It is crappy marketing, it has nothing to do with support. How could you have possibly made an already terrible call filled with horrible misinformation any worse? and yet you did by citing HTC's pathetic TWITTER channel which has nothing but marketing contests. Something is terribly wrong with your company's communications. I have been buying your phones for over 5 years, HTC invented the genre -- and with no disrespect intended, you have managed to malign the whole brand reputation in one phone call. Please, get your act together.
======================
So -- here I am an hour later -- and now I know that I am ABLE to get the update -- my phone being an unlocked UK phone. So please, is there anyone who can explain how. This is ridiculous.
thank you.
This may be a long shot (but might work)
Assuming you are connecting over wifi to do this then how does the phone know it is in the USA and not the EU? My guess is because when you first put a SIM in the phone, it tells it.
So take the SIM out of the phone and try again (over WiFi of course). If that does not work, see if you can manually set the operator to a UK one (such as Vodafone).
The OTA update comes over the air (duh). But when you are connected over wifi you are bypassing the carriers network and connecting direct to the HTC servers (wherever they are). So the argument about you not being on am EU network does not make sense.
Try the above and see how you go and if it does not work, sorry.
Not sure that will work, it doesn't even work for me in the UK...
My official response from HTC was similar to the phonecall repeated here, they said it is being released in batches not all together and I just have to wait until my batch comes round, potentially up to 2 weeks according to support.
My phone is also a very early one (bought on 2nd day they were in store after my pre-order from CPW wasn't fulfilled because they were somehow out of stock, despite having them in stock in my local shop!) I guess they're not releasing the update in serial number order!
P.
How long have you been trying though? I know that the EVO has had the update but what I was saying is the Desire hasn't anywhere but Europe i.e. Canada, Asia, and the USA.
You should be able to get the OTA if it's a SIM free phone with a WWE ROM but there are posts on the forum stating the the update may have been removed due to some issues.
Keep hitting that check button or just flash manually with the released ROM zip.

It's a great idea, thank you for that suggestion! hadn't even thought of it, i will try it -- despite messages afterwards saying wont even work in UK.
But what I want to know is: WTF is happening to HTC?
Really, this is becoming more and more disturbing.
The people at XDA are the people that PUT THEM ON THE MAP as their earliest buyers -- we are the early adopters of touchscreen smartphones -- longe before an iphone existed as a glimmer in Steve Jobs' eye. True, he had the Newton years ago, and hats off, as always, to Apple's exceptional product design vision. But it wasn't a phone, and it was long ago abandoned.
HTC and Windows Mobile made this whole new multi-billion dollar industry possible -- that now enables Verizon to profit from introducing and seling the DROID, that enabled steve jobs to launch the iPhone and, in all fairness, to finally get the UI right -- and take advantage of touchscreens -- vs Windows Mobile engineering's retarded tiny stylus driven tap inside 5-pixel wide box to hit that preference selection.
Then HTC ceded that business to Apple for several years as they barnstormed the industry, became the darling of engadget and gizmodo and could do no wrong. WHAT KEPT WINDOWS MOBILE COMPETITIVE were two things: HTC -- and their various UI overlays -- like touchflo -- now advanced to SenseUI -- and XDA-developers -- who pioneered so many advances that made a stylus-based OS start to work like a finger-navigable OS.
MY POINT? We, the early adopters, don't just get bragging rights. That's juveile. WE BOUGHT PHONES -- over and over and over. I have bought 5 HTC smartphones. SO I am getting a little sick and tired of being treated like **** by them. They paid multiple hundreds of millions for the whole new BRANDING campaign internationally -- to jetison the faceless image of no-name chinese manufacturer -- to a brand name of high quality phones they have always been known for.
But with that corporate makeover on the outside, what the hell has happened on the inside? WE, those of us who bought the Desire en masse in pre-orders -- were screwed over by HTC time and time again in April and May of this year as they have taken their eye off the prize -- of rewarding customer loyalty -- and now they just shoot for NEW CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS... They diverted OUR stock of shipments to RE-STOCK T-mobile UK, and other carrier sticks - so the carriers could CHA-CHING selling not just phones but service plans and data plans -- and HTC kissed their asses, while dismissing us as expendable.
It was only after we mounted a huge backlash that they did an about face and fixed that issue, but only after showing their hand, and really annoying alot of loyal customers -- these are not cheap phones -- and we don't buy the low-end crap. we buy the high end phones.
And so same thing now. WHO GETS THE UPDATES -- frikkin SPRINT in the USA with the EVO.... The CMDA phone which has no legacy tie at al to the GSM phones HTC built their reputation on. They are once again spitting in the faces of their loyal REPEAT CUSTOMER base -- because they feel they can DO so -- and what are we going to do -- STOP BUYING?
That's when hubris sets in, and it's very arrogant, and very calculated. They run the risk/benefit analyses of "what's the downside of pissing off the unlocked phone buyers" vs the UPSIDE of making our NEWEST PARTNERS -- Sprint in the USA -- and VERIZON in the USA -- happy?
I know how this game is played. I live in the heart of silicon valley. I live in the neighborhood with many google developers including the guy who product designed the G1 -- the first android phone -- and developed its UI. I onlty say this because I know the marketing business very well. SO well that it makes me very angry when I get PLAYED by smartass people who think they can pull the wool over customer eyes.
They only CAN because custimers let them. It ticked me off that XDA-devs sat on their thumbs and refused to use their enormous CLOUT when HTC was F*ing over all of the DESIRE pre-order purchasers in April and May.
I frnakly do not understand the sheep argument.. of why it is that people sit back and take it --- and sooner or later someone will post here -- dude- chill - it's just a phone, or - dude-chill -- Im sure there is nothing going on like you say. and so on.
Yeah? okay, fine. I will twiddle my thuimbs and keep looking for that update while some as*h*le who only discovered touchscreens last month and bought their EVO from Sprint quickly gets their 2.2 update served to them on a silver platter. This is nuts.
Oh. Sorry. I just riffed off of a THANK YOU post to someone who posted to help me Trust me, i greatly appreciate it, and will try it. This steam is of course not venting at you. It is at the situation and how preposterous it is.

Thank you. When you first posted I had not yet spoken to HTC... So i didn't yet understand what you meant.. sorry bout that. What does "WWE ROM" mean?
Whose site would it have been hosted on -- before there were issues?
This is what I am trying to understand. The HTC guy initially told me: You can get it from the Android site -- then use HTC Sync to downlaod it to computer and then install onto phone that way...
Then it was not available at Android.com
Then you were saying perhaps it was available from T-Mobile UK's site -- in downloadable form? Is that correct?
(NOT DIRECTED AT YOU) Why is this such a frikkin' mystery? Isn't the whole concept supposed to be: Android phones are updatable firmware phones, thus, improved features sets and functionality always as the code is improving... And phone manufacturers like HTC manufacture phones that are compliant with Google's Android OS. So why is this such rocket science?
I have an HTC phone. It's been cleared for takeoff. Android 2.2 exists for this phone. What is their problem?

Back when the 4.1 update was released for the S2, Mobilesyrup reported the date for the update. The news came the day before the update and was right. That evening on the eve of the update Bell told me that they had no information in regards to a date and the update happened within 24 hours. Basically I'm saying that these people are either A- completely retarded, or B- Really are not informed of update schedules. The S4 is scheduled for it's update for this weekend and the S3 may very well be as well.

Well I don't think I'll running anymore aosp roms after hyperdrive updates to 4.3.... That'll be awesome. Touchwiz is feature rich and dense....
Posted it on my last post but moved it here.. I was told to keep an eye on this page by a Rogers employee, relating to a 4.3 eta http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/GeneralCareSupport/thread-id/355
This is good news too! lets get kitkat official! i747m to follow. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/leaked-samsung-memo-points-to-january-kitkat-release-for-galaxy-s-4-and-note-3-s-iii-and-note-ii-by-april/
Meh, AT&T got the 4.3 OTA first. You'd think that because we pay some of the highest cellphone bills in the world, we receive updates last... what a joke.

You dont pay more than in the US, if you are, you need to talk to a csr.
Also, our network speeds dominate the us in every aspect. Tired of people bashing canadian telecom companies.

If that's really an up to date Roger's timetable for OS Upgrades, then you guys are in deep trouble. héhéhé
However, I strongly suspect it isn't up to date as Samsung is pushing hard to get 4.3 on as many devices as possible before the holidays.
Regarding your second link, the leaked Samsung memo, note that it concerns the international GT-i9300 S3, not any other variants.
Having own a Galaxy S1, I can tell you that Europe received one or two upgrades we never got to receive here in Canada even though Bell was selling the exact same international variant with only a localized modem.
These updates never came through most probably because, back then, canadian carriers had started to sell the Galaxy S2 and didn't see any point in upgrading old phones. I would expect the same to happen with the S3 even if Samsung does release a version of KitKat for our i747m.

I realize that but at the same time there will be another compatible update for that watch I'm hoping which will need all to be updated to 4.4.
Money talks - I know, I had a galaxy s captivate. Hope is all we have!
Also I'm with Fido, paying 70$ - 10 for a phone replacement option which seems to be pretty fair, and unlimited everything with 2gb of data. It's not to bad I guess?? nah 2gb of data seems like a rip off. As for speeds my area is kind of bunk but I still get 20mb/s dl on LTE.. I'm sure it's higher in spots around the city where I don't only have one bar.

I dont know where you live but building a reliable network on 2100mhz isn't easy. You only have a good 2-3km radius for effective coverage compared to 10-15 with 850mhz. You need a lot of towers. When 700mhz is available (Q2 2014) things will be very different!

I recently moved and there is no sprint service at my new house. I am trying to switch 3 numbers from sprint to at&t. I full purchased my sprint note 4 two years ago and my 2 year contract is up. I paid off all outstanding balances on my account. After talking to sprint they said the phone was too old to DSU and gave me my MSL, which I have read does me no good. They told me my phone would not work with att but I have read multiple people on here have been able to use the sprint note 4 on a GSM network such as att.
So I went to an att store and they put a activated att SIM in my phone. It made calls and had 3g data. I understand I will not get LTE on this phone from att. So then I ported my number over and got a new att SIM card, put it in and I had service and data - even though I had an "Invalid SIM card" message. att guy said this was normal. Ran 2 speed tests and got 0.15 down / 0.79 up and 0.30 down / 1.11 up. att guy said if I did a system update I might get better speeds. Didn't bother me though cause it was already better than sprints speeds in the area on LTE. I could get a web site to load in a few seconds instead of 1-2 minutes.
About 15-20 minutes later I did the same process on my moms phone a sprint galaxy s5 (this was the main number from the sprint account). We did the same test beforehand with an att SIM - both phone and 3g data worked. There was a problem at first and the guy said "it was added to the wrong band" but after he called someone and tried again he said it was fixed. After porting that number and inserting new att SIM it had no phone service or data. Also my note 4 that was working before has no phone service or data. When I try to make a call it gives me some message about connecting to a sprint operator to use a prepaid card or make a call with credit card. Also the S5 should be on the newest software update cause my mom installs it as soon as it pops onto her phone.
The att guy said it seemed like sprint re-locked these 2 phones and didn't know what to do because they were previously working on the att network. He suggested I call sprint which I did and after 3 different technicians and 45 minutes later they hung up up on me. The only question they asked me was for my DEC #. I tried calling back and told them I was hung up on, they put me on with another technician and after 20 minutes on hold they hung up again. I am going to keep trying to get someone at sprint to help fix this but it doesn't seem like I can get anyone competent to help me.
The att guy was trying his best to help, even driving to another location to pick up 2 temporary phones for tonight 45 minutes after he was supposed to close. We got our numbers put on the temp phones for the night and finally the att guy was able to go home 90 minutes after the store was supposed to close.
I was planning on trying out some new roms on my note 4, which is currently stock (I've never got a popup to install new update and never did it manually). I haven't played around with any custom roms since my last phone 2 years ago so I'm pretty rusty although I have customized all my other phones for the last 4-5 years. I also plan to switch to a galaxy s8 when it comes out.
Is there anything I can do to my phone before I go back to att tomorrow? I just backed up my game apps with helium/carbon. I'm overly tired so before I mess up my phone I'm going to get some sleep and get a fresh start in the morning. Then I'm going to install twrp and do a full backup. I was also planning on following this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059 to add the att GSM bands. Will doing this https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/general/sprint-users-easy-downgrade-to-kitkat-t3471131 help at all?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Ouch. Sounds like Sprint isn't doing you any favors and the phones won't work to capacity on AT&T.
If you're a directv customer or can switch, I think there's still incentives for trading those phones in for $650 per line ported with trade-in and getting one free phone on the unlimited plus or bundled directv plan. May take 2 or more billing cycles to apply and $150 per line credit has to be spent on account or in-store.
Can't promise offer still exists but I was considering it but wanted to wait until new phones were available and see what's available then. At the time I asked, the offer was scheduled to be available until August- I think. You may need to talk to AT&T some more. The current AT&T plus unlimited plan includes a $25/month voucher credit for AT&T paid TV services; won't pay a full but discount may help.
I'd seriously consider GSM phones if AT&T can make it affordable. You might also look at ZTE Axon mid-range phone price with flagship specs among others I think.
Edit: If nothing else, I think Galaxy Tools may be what you need to unlock those Sprint phones for domestic use.
Edit 2: You won't need that link you posted for Note 4; those screenshots appear to indicate you're already fully on KitKat. If galaxy tools agrees NK2 for bootloader, you're fully KitKat with lower security bootloader; maybe you know this but once you upgrade the bootloader, you can't downgrade it. If you were to Odin that tar, you'd actually be upgrading your bootloader and wouldn't be able to Odin NK2 stock tar again. Same would also apply to NIE and OB7 stock tars that are on the lower security bootloader.

Yeah, sounds like sprint is shafting you from using their phones.
But you are correct, you can use this phone. I'm a GSM user with an unlocked sprint note 4 to. I use cricket, which is at&t. You just won't get lte, like you said. But you will get 4g-hspa+, but it'll only show 3g on screen.
As samep stated, don't update your phone yet. Stay on kit kat, and try to use the free tools available to unlock your phone. Like gt-tools.
If all else fails, all i can recommend is a paid service i used. Idoneapps.com. I can vouche for them.
Either way you get your phone unlocked, what i would do after, is install twrp, and do a full backup, especially your Efs. And keep it somewhere safe.
I attached files. If you don't know how to use, you might want to ask someone with better understanding than me.

Hey Guys,
I have a Note 10+ Unlocked that I installed the ATT Firmware unto in mid September. I decided to do a factory reset to troubleshoot a software issue I was dealing with, and during the reset the Wifi calling repeatedly failed to initialize, giving me an error along the lines of the feature not being enabled on my account. after calling ATT about it I was told that its because I have an outside phone and they could not help. Is there a work around to get the ATT features to start working again? I have tried flashing my phone back to the unlocked firmware and then to ATT again, but that did not work so I'm definitely stumped now!
yeah man, get an international model. I did this tut with my note 9 and after having the note 10 and note 10 +, I'm sticking with my note 9

I had the same issue, I took my wife's AT&T sim that was provisioned for wifi calling and all the other features and swapped with her for about five minutes. Did the trick for me
Hey Guys, thanks for the responses!
I got my phone through Samsung's upgrade/Finance program, so going international wouldn't be feasible for me (and I understand rooting breaks Knox, which I need for work).
I did indeed utilize the ATT user data and my model number showed as the carrier variant, which confused the ATT rep lol
So I saw a similar comment to Techgoon's on the forum, and threw my sim card into an old Lumia 950, and I immediately got a message on the 950 that call protect was enabled. I put my sim card back in the note 10 and got backthe ATT locked features, so wifi calling and call protect enabled with no issue afterwards. One thing that I noticed is that I do not have a VOLTE option under carrier connectivity settings, though under my sim card information it does show I have LTE voice so I guess that's all that matters.
I do have one lingering question if anyone can help, my software version is that of the firmware posted in august, so my last security patch is July. OTA Update check claims I'm up to date, is there a way to push for the latest firmware, or is this kind of another quirk of having the Odin installed firmware?
Edit - right after posting this I received a notification that ATT Mobile Security and Call protect were removed from my account! LTE still shows under my sim information, but the IMS registration status now says "Not Registered" . It appears as though I still have wifi calling and VOLTE, but I wonder how long till I have to swap my sim around again -.-.
This whole situation makes no sense to me, I had a Pixel 3, and a Sony XZ, neither ATT phones but both worked fully with all of ATT features, so why is it that Samsung gets black listed if its not the ATT version?
I had this issue, took out the sim, reset all Network settings restarted the phone, put sim back in and everything works

what variant exactly do u have? when u say unlocked samsung do u mean a U1 device? u mention unlocking and rooting is not an option.. im curious as to wat model u have specifically as i am trying to determine which firmware is interchangeable.
In my own experiences with ATT, they are terrible when it comes to getting certain carrier features to work.
First, the phone has to be an original ATT branded one with its IMEI registered in the ATT network.
Second, you can't use the unbranded "U1" firmware (unless you flash the "U" userdata), while some features will work, VoLTE in particular will be disabled.
Third, ATT prepaid does not support VoLTE at least up until now, not even if you have the first two prerequisites fulfilled.
So, they suck in the carrier feature department, and also their data speeds are about half of the Tmobile's.
Speaking of Tmobile, even with the unbranded "U1" firmware, everything seems to work perfectly.
Just my 2cents.
Spent hours trying to get this done, what a pain in the @SS!
It thinks the IMEI2 is a physical sim!
They have to fix this crap.
Verizon's support is going down the tubes big time.
I didn't know there is Verizon Fold 4 eSim option? I preordered mine and it arrived last Monday. Activated it the same day. It comes with a new pSim, and I have to admit I am questioning the necessity of pSim if every new phone comes with one (physical sim) and I have no reason to take it out because I won't be changing plans or carriers in the foreseeable future. Why have one? Give me the option to buy a specific/no change/this-carrier-only-forever, and I can save a few bucks? Why the heck not! I am obviously aware of tract phones, or maybe I am not if that is where your question is going to lead.
Verizon - yes
New Fold 4 - yes
Activated - yes
eSim - no
interesting concept I didn't know existed.
The box came with the pokey tool specifically for sim removal. I haven't bothered to double confirm there is actually a sim in the tray that pops out. I trust them, it's there and we know the phone doesn't come with expandable micro sd ability so the tray better have a sim, or why have the tray?
If I were to pop the tray out just to look and that is the only reason for pulling it out, I have a chance of breaking something. Don't do that. That's what pilots do, and then I gotta fix it. LOL
The purpose of having esim is so you can put your primary number on it and have a physical sim slot free. This way if the phone is a work phone (or vice versa) you can have both lines on one device. Also, for traveling it comes in handy. Not sure about Samsung but I know with Apple you can actually have multiple lines registered to esim. Only two lines can be used simultaneously but (again) this comes in handy for travelers that may not have service with a particular carrier but another does, for example.
Carriers have rules too that governor the use of esim registration as well as sim lock. For example a Verizon phone on equipment payment plan (EIP) won't work on TMO on esim. At least not for the intial 60 day period from activation. Other carriers (ATT), for example won't lift the sim lock until the device is paid off.
This is why I always get unlocked devices. Always.
I have a question for you, are you getting 5g on your unlocked phone with Verizon? I got my phone on launch day from Samsung, unlocked and have not had 5g. It was working fine on my prior Note20 ultra...
Would this esim issue solve the problem?

I got my fold 4 on verizon and 5g works. It's didn't work too good at first and then I chatted with customer service a couple of days ago and now I finally get the full speed like I used to. I guess they never activated it properly before.
I've had no problems with 5G.
Unlocked running big red V in Tampa Florida.

Possibly although if it is activated you should be getting whatever services are available.
Interestingly enough, I have two VZW numbers on my Fold 4 currently. One on a physical "5G" SIM provided by VZW in the past month, and the other on esim. Both numbers are on accounts with the highest level plan.
I was in an area that barely got any signal and the number with the physical sim was bouncing between no service and one bar whereas the esim number never completely lost service. Signals for both were in the -120 to -130 dBm range so very, very weak.
It was interesting to see this, however.
I've had both lines on my iPhone 13 Pro Max the same way and often see similar results and the signals showing for each often show different number of bars as well.

Much respect, what did you say to them? How did you do it. It's failed 3 times for me. And I would kill to have Verizon on esim so I can have aren't back to is annoying at times verizon variant or unlocked?
Mine is unlocked direct from Samsung.
I probably spent a total of 6 hours of my time to get this (finally) working over a period of about 1 week. Started with the website. It detected the IMEI as esim and 5G capable and compatible with VZW. Everything looked good but it would not activate at all! Tried a second time and got an error to contact support.
Did that via chat and got nowhere fast. They opened a ticket that they said could take up to a week to get resolved! I called a few more times during this period, transferred around to different people, etc. Still no luck.
The final time that worked was even though Verizon showed up as a carrier I still had no service. I was transferred to someone else that did more TS and finally asked me for the EID. After about 10 minutes, she came back and had me power off the phone. When it came back on I did see Verizon showing up along with my number. It took a few minutes and texts started coming through and I had voice and data!
It was a royal PIA. Perhaps everyone will benefit now that Apple is switching to esim ONLY as it will REQUIRE the carriers to get their S4iT together and make this process smoother. Because this was a total cluster-f!

When I scan the cr is says my plans not setup and will not detect me
They need the IMEI 2 (esim) AND EID. Have no idea why they are having such a hard time with the newest Samsung phones! I was having the same issue initially.
What are the benefits of switching to esim? Besides having the sim slot available for an additional line or other carrier?
Not needing to carry two phones!
