Got answers from both Bell Canada and Samsung Mobile Canada Facebook pages and both said they are not aware of anything as of today.
So, basically, I think the answer the OP got was just a load of crap.

Back when the 4.1 update was released for the S2, Mobilesyrup reported the date for the update. The news came the day before the update and was right. That evening on the eve of the update Bell told me that they had no information in regards to a date and the update happened within 24 hours. Basically I'm saying that these people are either A- completely retarded, or B- Really are not informed of update schedules. The S4 is scheduled for it's update for this weekend and the S3 may very well be as well.

Also, our network speeds dominate the us in every aspect. Tired of people bashing canadian telecom companies.

If that's really an up to date Roger's timetable for OS Upgrades, then you guys are in deep trouble. héhéhé
However, I strongly suspect it isn't up to date as Samsung is pushing hard to get 4.3 on as many devices as possible before the holidays.
Regarding your second link, the leaked Samsung memo, note that it concerns the international GT-i9300 S3, not any other variants.
Having own a Galaxy S1, I can tell you that Europe received one or two upgrades we never got to receive here in Canada even though Bell was selling the exact same international variant with only a localized modem.
These updates never came through most probably because, back then, canadian carriers had started to sell the Galaxy S2 and didn't see any point in upgrading old phones. I would expect the same to happen with the S3 even if Samsung does release a version of KitKat for our i747m.

I realize that but at the same time there will be another compatible update for that watch I'm hoping which will need all to be updated to 4.4.
Money talks - I know, I had a galaxy s captivate. Hope is all we have!
Also I'm with Fido, paying 70$ - 10 for a phone replacement option which seems to be pretty fair, and unlimited everything with 2gb of data. It's not to bad I guess?? nah 2gb of data seems like a rip off. As for speeds my area is kind of bunk but I still get 20mb/s dl on LTE.. I'm sure it's higher in spots around the city where I don't only have one bar.

I dont know where you live but building a reliable network on 2100mhz isn't easy. You only have a good 2-3km radius for effective coverage compared to 10-15 with 850mhz. You need a lot of towers. When 700mhz is available (Q2 2014) things will be very different!

As of right now the strong rumor is that it will be reased in the 1Q of 2013 for the Note 2 and the GS3 However this is for unlocked GSM phones. As always if you want the latest firmware get a Nexus device or get a internatiol version of a phone. If you buy your phone from a cellphone provider like VWZ or ATT etc........They will hold at the min the update for 6 months before they give it to you. Gives them time to add in all there bloatware.
As always if you have helped you with the post please Click Thank:laugh:

4.2 does not have any juicy things like 4.1 has so I don't need it now. If it comes then it is fine otherwise I don't need it. The toggles are already there and I have continuous input already available so nothing much required. This is me and others might want something from features of 4.2

Only Nexus devices get updates direct from Google.
For the Note 2 they will come from Samsung, or if you're unlucky, from the carrier.
Best thing to do is keep checking on XDA.

I already have the GN8 wifi and want to get the AT&T LTE verison. I can live without root if I can install 4.2.2. Is 4.2.2 available for AT&T GN8? I only see the GT-N5120 and the device number is different for the AT&T model.

Canadian s3 i747m 4.3?

Any news on 4.3 for i747m? I see that a lot of Canadian users are asking about the leaked update for AT&T. But anyone whose been reading them knows that the modems aren't the same.
Samsung Canada is saying late November, but then the carriers have to test it as well. I would normally think we wouldn't get it until next year but since the update adds compatibility with the Galaxy Gear, I would imagine Samsung is urging carriers to hurry with it.

In all fairness, Rogers has been fantastic pushing updates for all the devices I've used in the last year or so. So i sort of expect it anytime now. Tho I don't use my S3 hardly anymore, so I really don't care lol.

ALL NORTH AMERICAN (sgh-i747/m) galaxy s3 confirmed lollipop!!!

((((((((((((((((((((((So today I was on Samsung's Canadian website and decided to do a live chat with a representative about the S3 (SGH-I747M) and ask if the two year old handset will be updated to 4.4.4 or even 5.0.
I was shocked by what the rep told me: I've included screenies for proof that i am not lying go ahead and hold your S3s to the sky and bask in the glory of these wonderful screen shots.)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
ABOVE IS OUT DATED INFO CHECK REPLY BELOW FOR MORE ACCURATE INFORMATION REGARDING THE LOLLIPOP UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY DEVICE INFO:
ROM: SAMSUNG STOCK KITKAT 4.4.2 FIRMWARE
BASEBAND: I747MVLUFNK2
BUILD NUMBER: KOT49H.I747MVLUFNK2
CARRIER: BELL
All sgh-i747/m users will recieve lollipop via ota!!!!!!
AT&T, Rogers, Bell Telus and all other carriers carrying the SGH-I747M GALAXY SIII will recieve the Lollipop 5.0 OTA Update directly from samsung. I have now confirmed for all North american s3 users...Proof available in the screenshot included.
Even though there are rumors, I would take what the csr's say with a grain of salt.
I gave my s3 to my niece and it would be nice to get 5.0 but it may be tough to see the difference between kk and 5.0 since both would be running touch wiz.

Yes but touch wiz right now is more cartoony and now that we know we are getting lollipop we could expect a more s5 like design but more lillipopised.

They are not rumors anymore. I've given proof that all i747m will receive lollipop. I tried to confirm with Samsung US but they would not say anything but told me to wait and not believe any rumors that the s3 will no longer be supported. they also hinted that something is in the works, when Samsung Canada specifically confirmed that it will receive the update...only one conclusion: samsung US is keeping quiet about the update.
I had a Motorola Atrix HD and Motorola's tech support team and David Schuster of Motorola also said KK was coming to the Atrix HD and it never happened. Let's hope Samsung's CSR is right.
Even if this is true, what about root?
You spoke with a csr who could tell you anything they'd like. Kinda like s csr telling me they were installing fiber optic for my building, that was 7 years ago. Until there is public word from Samsung, carriers, or until it starts actually rolling out..... It's still a rumor.
I also am a bit sceptical. That csr never said Google had yet sent the update to Samsung, he did not say that Samsung had received the update, nor did he say that Samsung had made their changes and sent the updates to the carriers. The csr gave a flow chart but did not state if the process had actually been started. Also, once the carrier receives the update from Samsung it can take months to get released, at least based on AT&Ts past history with my first device.
IF THEY RELEASE IT, we'll let you know! IF we decide to release it! Any day now!

Verizon and system updates : what I was told

I was on hold for 15.min today waiting to speak with Verizon tech support service, and certainly felt they would never answer. So I clicked on their text they sent while I was on hold, supposedly that would connect me with their tech support.

So immediately my call was terminated and I had to wait but then got to text with text support (image above) They told me that Verizon has zero control over release of system updates, that they come directly from Samsung, and that I should call Samsung and they gave me their number.
Here is the transcript with some info redacted:

When is Verizon issuing Galaxy S20+ system update g986usqu1ate6?
M______:
Goodafternoon my name is M_____ Can i have your first and last name along with the phone number also the pin ?
(My name). DIGIT_REDACTION , PIN_CODE
M_______
Thank you what can i help you with ?
Please tell me When is Verizon issuing for Galaxy S20+ the system update g986usqu1ate6?
M______&
We dont issue software updates sir
Only Samsung does
(Me) but you release them
Sprint and TMobile users ready have the update
M_______
If you would like that information for when samsung will send the software updates for the customers in the area you can reach out to Samsung support to get that information
Nonsense
M_____&
We do not release them
We do not send software updates
We dont have the ability to do that
Only the phone developer does
(I then copied info on TMobile releases from another website)
The latest Galaxy S20 update is now rolling out to devices running on T-Mobile and Sprint’s network in the United States. This update was initially released in other markets earlier this week and brings camera improvements and the May security patch. Some countries had already received an update with the latest security patch at the beginning of the month, but that firmware wasn’t made available to carrier-locked variants in the US.
Featuring software version G98xUSQU1ATE6, the new update adds a close-up zoom toggle to the Camera app.

Okay soo Samsung are the ones to send those out they send them out by carrier and location ..................
(Me) So.... Samsung has it own communication towers and TMobile users already got the update but Verizon users didn't?
Cmon...
So I paid $1200 for a Verizon S20+ phone with a camera that focuses worse than my old Kodak ?
Seriously!
Well Verizon got my.money. Ok. Fair enough.
Peace.
M______
The update has nothing to do with the towers you can contact Samsung at 1 (800) 726-7864

So, my friends at XDA, tell me I'm wrong and I'll shut up and just wait here with my can't focus at close range for s*hit S20+ and wait for Verizon/Samsung/whoever to release the update.
You are right that its your network who is releasing the update, but you are wrong in asking wrong person - maybe if you would wait for technical department they would give you more accurate answer to your query

But that actually *was* the Tech Support Department for Verizon, just the Chat Access version instead of the Telephone Voice access.
I think we are all in the same position - even unlocked users - no??? ATE6 was released but then ATE4 was released shortly afterwards with the June security patches. I'm not clear on whether this means certain fixes/functions were "rolled back" with the new version, or why Samsung did this. It does seem that a new version is making its way (ATF1) which we will all hopefully receive soon. I don't think Verizon is to blame here... we are all on ATE4 as the "latest."
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!
Well, crap, my dumb *ss is still on 4/9/2020 ---ATCT. :-\
The focusing of this s20+ is just crap up close.
I even had the S20Ultra and returned that within 14 days because it too had crap focusing, and was too big and my hands are monstrous.
WTF Samsung. Maybe I shoulda stayed with the Note10+
Meh
UPDATE! Well I just checked again and I guess I'm ok! Cause my S20+ says "Your SAMSUNG SM-G986U is up to date. No update is necessary at this time. OK".....
Another update from the crack team of specialists at TeamVerizon TechCentral
"Unfortunately we do not know when the update will be released. We are not provided that information. I can try to Google it and see"

That was helpful.
The carriers release the updates.
Verizon is always slow to release updates.
Verizon also has terrible support.
This isn't a Samsung problem.
