Hello, I am trying to get into the recovery mode/factory reset of my LG G8 Canadian Model.
Volume down + power method does not work neither does temporarily releasing the power button.
Does anyone with a Canadian G8 know how to enter recovery mode on this specific model?
Try power + volume up. I've got the Sprint model, and needed to do a factory reset when trying to unlock my bootloader. The guides I found online said volume down + power, but that never worked for me. Volume up + power did.

I tried that method, but that does not work for me.
I'd there any other possible combo (anyone on Canadian G8)?
You have to press Volume Down + Power, when the LG logo appears let go of the Power button only and press it again right away (when the logo is still visible)

That does not work on my Canadian G8
Oddly enough, all of a sudden, I'm able to consistently get into recovery mode with Volume down + power. Previously, I managed to pull it off once by accident, and that was it. I recently switched my A/B slots, so that I could roll back my software to G820U20e, so that I can unlock my bootloader whenever I decide to stop being lazy. Perhaps there's some kind of bug on G820U20f, if you happened to be on the latest update like I previously was?
Anyways, for me to get into recovery, I power off the phone (and not plugged in). I press and hold both Volume Down + Power, but I never let go of either button until I see "Recovery Mode Loading..." on the screen.

From the sounds of things, you might just have to re-flash your phone. You can download the firmware files from here: https://lg-firmwares.com/series/lg-g8-thinq/
If this helps anybody, my particular G8 had its IMPL set to 0, so I flashed the engineering ftm onto my G8 and the standard recovery combo is working again. I also can boot into fastboot now using the fastboot combo.

Mine isn't hardware modded. Mine is one with a replaced motherboard directly from LG.
The Xiaomi firehose doesn't even work with it.

Hi guys. Im pretty experienced with android but this one has me stumped. My buddies brother has a stock/non-rooted optimus g e971 on Rogers. He changed his screen lock password and forgot what it is. Of course he never register a Gmail account so I can't recover that way. I figure no problem. Shut down, pwr+vol down to factory reset. Well nope doesn't work. It flashes the lg logo twice then boots like normal.
Ok so I figure I'll just put it in download mode/fast boot to do the factory reset. Tried pwr+vol up. Nope. Vol up+vol down+pwr. Nope. Vol up+vol down and plug usb+pwr. Nope. It just flashed the lg logo twice then boots like normal. I've tried multiple variations of each holding the pwr for different lengths of time, always with the same result.
Anyone have any suggestions? It's not bricked, and the vol keys are working, it just won't go into any modes.
also I dont know if he has hardware encryption enabled (of if thats even an option on this device) but would that even prevent me from getting into factory reset / download mode?
Also I check that the vol rocker is working. when it is on but screen is off, if i click the vol rocker either way it wakes the screen.
I have a similar problem. Here's a thread I made about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-intl/help/enter-download-mode-t2883542.A couple of guys had some ideas.None worked in my phone but maybe you're luckier.
If you haven't done that already you should try going into download mode by pressing power up+down and plug the cable, don't press the pwr button.
If you find a solution pls let me know .
Yup, you shouldn't need to press the power button for download mode.
First, make sure you have the LG United Mobile drivers installed on the PC you're using. Then plug your USB cable into the PC (not the phone yet). Simultaneously press and hold the Vol +/- buttons, and hold for 10 seconds. Then while still holding the vol buttons, connect the micro usb to the phone.

Doesn't work either. If I hold +/- for 10 sec then plug in the usb it flashes the lg logo twice, then goes to the battery charging screen. If I hold +/- for 20 sec then plug in the usb it flashes the lg logo twice then boots like normal.
after reading this post i went and tried if i also cant get into the recovery and the same happened to me, the LG logo just flashes and nothing happens. mine is stock E975 (4.4.2).
worked for me.

Android has SD card encryption disabled by default - but if it was enabled it shouldnt disable recovery/fastboot - right?
Even if the bootloader is locked, i should still be able to get into fastboot/download mode, and/or recovery, right?

Hi There,
I have got a GT-i9591 FCC ID: A3LGTI9195 SSN: -I9195GSMH
I have managed to boot into download-mode via adb.exe reboot download and then
to flash clockwork-mod via heimdall.:fingers-crossed:
BUT: then one has to boot into recovery mode IMEDIATELY, but without a working
3-button-Combo phone boots the OS and the clockwork-mod is gone away.
Searched the net for hours....
Is there any chance to root and mod the phone?
THX

Just to make it clear once again :: Press and Hold Volume Up, Home and Power ---- Recovery
Press and Hold Volume Down, Home and Power --- Download mode. Please try these steps
after removing and reinserting the battery. Just to make sure your key presses are registered
properly. Check to see those keys are not flush into the frame. If so then go to service centre
and have them fix it.

Maybe your phone is carrier model. If that is so, then the bootloader is unlocked.
That could be a reason why u are unable to access recovery.

There seems not to be any branding at all. How can one test, if it is a carrier model?
Is this good or bad if the bootloader is unlocked?
So, is there any chance to excange the kernel, so towelroot will be able to
root the phone.

Shame on me:
the home button has a tricky hardware-bug
Thank you all!
I have the t-mobile LG G$ (H811) and can't use the hardware keys to reboot into recovery.
I have CM13 and TWRP installed (previously had CM12.1/TWRP with the same issue).
I can use software to reboot into recovery, but not the hardware method.
I have tried all the combinations I can find, basically consisting of:
-turning on and pressing the power + volume down or power + volume down + volume up
-releasing power for 1 second when the lg logo comes up
-pressing the power again
No matter what I try, the phone continues to boot as normal.
I can easily get into download mode though
Is there any way to reboot from download into recovery?
I had a problem with a bad CM flash that bootlooped (not the bad lg bootloop problem) - and my only way out was to re-flash stock and go from there - it was a time consuming pain. I am just trying to figure out some way of booting into TWRP recovery - I can't seem to get the recommended keypress sequence to work.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Real hard, but I finally got it to work. It is all a matter of timing. Power button needs to be released (and pressed) before the unlocked bootloader message comes on, but not too soon.
Even knowing that, I still only get it right 50% of the time.

I found this sequence to work best for me.
First hold volume down then press power down
When the logo shows up, release power and then press again.
Soo.... I messed up and edited the build.prop specificly the ro.build.type property. I tried to enable some debug options without validating if this would be a good idea (hint: it's not).
It seems that this has bricked my phone, the first LG splash screen shows up with the powered by android, and the second animation just keeps loading forever (making the phone very hot). And the LED flashes blue continously.
I did manage to get the device visible in ADB but it tells me that the device is offline so I can't do anything with it.
Tried booting in recovery mode (holding power button + volume down) but it just own't go into recovery mode.
Some extra info of what runs on my phone:
- version H815
- Android 6.0
- bootloader unlocked
- TWRP installed
- Rooted
- XPosed installed
Any idea on what I could try to fix it? (I guess stuck with a brick but oh well).
Thanks!
What do you mean, by it can't go into recovery mode?

Go to downlod mode either use lgup or lg flashtool to reflash the firmware that you are on... Do u remember which firmware you were on ?

I meant that it just boots 'normally' when I press those buttons, it shows me the first LG logo and the second animation just hangs, whatever I do. I tried all sorts of combinations with the power button + volume down. (Keeping it pressed, briefly letting it go after the lg logo and repressing them).

I don't know exactly which firmware I was on but I can't even get my phone into download mode (same as my other response, pressing volume up doesn't do anything).
The recovery and download mode used to work but I have no idea why it doesn't now...
When booting the phone, hold the power button and volume down button simultaneously, when LG logo appear, push the power button again. You should see the white screen, where you choose "YES" twice. Then the phone should kick you into TWRP or different recovery mode.
But how the hell editing build.prop can mess with recovery and download mode? Sounds incredible

Yeah I have no idea why the buttons aren't working for me. After a lot of searching I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/soft-bricked-device-t3248144
Which is basicly the same thing I'm experiencing, ADB comes online for just a brief second (kept spamming the reboot recovery command) and got in TWRP and I just flashed another which worked fine.
Odd thing is, even now my phone works I can't start recovery or download with the hardware buttons...... oh well, thankfully adb works as it's supposed to.
Thank you all for your help!
Hi all,
Have a brand new (to me) v500 that i bought and was able to root, flash twrp, and flash crdroid on yesterday. Today i flashed standard AOSP but now i'm stuck in a bootloop and cant figure out how to access twrp any more. Previously with crdroid on it i was accessing the bootloader/twrp via an app. So far all i can get to come up using hardware buttons is the download mode, and ADB isn't recognizing the device.
Any advice? I tried following a guide to revert to stock using the LG Support Tool but cant find the R&D tools to complete the tutorial.
Any help is appreciated.
Bump - $10 USD to whoever can help me solve this first
To enter twrp via buttons on v500:
Press and hold Power Button + Volume Down
When the LG logo shows up, release the power button only
Now press and hold the Power and Volume Up button while keeping your hold on the Volume Down button
When the factory reset screen appears, release your hold on all buttons
Follow On Screen Indications to make factory reset, but instead you enter twrp

b0li gave an invalid TWRP entry instruction.
Read How to enter recovery mode using key combination post #2.
In TWRP, do advanced wipe without internal storage.
Before you flash the ROM, check its checksum carefully to see if it is identical to the one on the server.

It turns off because you hold 3 keys and don't release them.
You must press them simultaneously and then release them immediately.

That did the trick, can't believe it was just because i wasn't pressing the keys exactly right. I was able to get back into TWRP and reflash the ROM so now everything is working. Still having trouble getting usb to recognize the device, so i can't flash anything else on there at the moment.

Perhaps the problem is not the usb socket or cable.
Blow out the socket with compressed air and try again.
If that doesn't work, then your OS may be a problem.
In this case, try [LIVE-ISO][FWUL]adb/fastboot without any installation and driver issues.
I tried another computer too, same result - the tablet recognizes the connection so it starts charging, and despite the USB settings in dev options being set for MTP, it doesn't connect.
I'll try your link later, but it seems like its a problem with the tablet compared to computer.

You can always transfer data using microSD or via WiFi tethering.
If via WiFi, I recommend the SwiFTP server - simple and reliable.
I tried to update Lineage and am running into an issue now where as soon as the LG logo pops up, a message that says "Secure booting error! Cause: boot certification verify" pops up almost immediately so I can't use the hardware buttons to get into TWRP. Any ideas around this one? Thanks again all!
