Have had bad experiences with cases where the magnets haven't cooperated and the auto-sleep feature has been less than convenient. The s pen hasn't worked correctly and sometimes the tablet has gone to sleep without me touching the power button... just because the case has been folded so that the magnet has been pressed to the back of the tablet. Cheap cases? I confess... yes they have been. But after the first one I didn't really want to risk buying a more expensive one just to end up sitting with the knife and cutting out the magnet again. So l bought another cheap one... to see if the first one had been a "bad luck buy". Well, it wasn't and the second one behaved the same way... and the third one too. Is this a typical "cheap case thing" or is it something you can expect also with the more expensive ones? The best thing would of course be if this was an optional feature... that you can disable. On my iPad it's optional with a switch in the settings. I haven't found something on the Note 10.1 though. So my questions are...
• IS this a typical "cheap case syndrome"?
• IS the function optional on the Note 10.1 2014? (Or can it be done in another way?)

Firstly I have a book cover and have no trouble. I think it is a cheap case thing. Samsung official book cover has magnets in it and from what people say they have no issues with them. In settings there are an options for the book cover in accessories section try play with those settings.
BTW: the name of my case is Snugg it was $18.

Funny thing... maybe something I should keep to myself. But what the heck. Noone here knows me anyway. I found the option now... and not only that. I had actually turned it off. I must have done it by mistake while looking for it, because I sure can't remember ever finding it. Blind or senile. I must be at least one of them. LOL
But out of curiosity. I gather it must be some kind of sensor in that area since l was moving the cover's magnet area around and when it came close to that area it turned off without the screen being covered. Does that setting control the function or does it control the sensor itself? (If it only controls the function, the S Pen would still have behaved weird. around that area.)
Well, thank you anyway. Now I don't have to wonder about the setting anymore. Now I'm more worried about how come I never found it myself. l thought I had looked everywhere... including that area. But now I found it instantly. Far from hidden (even in a settings group with the NAME 'Book cover'). Maybe time for the annual doctor's checkup.
Hi Guys,
Really anxious to order me a Special Edition from the Asus store or Amazon or B&H but, I only see it on the Asus website, saying it's out of stock and thanks to their buggy website, I can't even get notifications of its restocking via email either :crying:
So just wanted to check with you friends, here, do you guys have more information? Thanks so much! ?
I ordered mine via the ASUS store and received it last week. Was supposed to get shipped on the 19th but they said they had a delay and it was a couple of days late. You should be able to still place your order even though it's not in stock. They won't charge you until it ships so you have some time to change your mind.
+1 I'm also interested in the Special Edition, but no one has stock in US! Did they only make a 100 of these... And ebay is over priced for now.

No option to order bud, if you find a way to do it, can you please share?
How do you like the phone? The US phone working well with the local carriers, battery life, and such? Can you share some input?

I have the 64GB deluxe version and the battery life is much better than my old Note 4. Been unplugged for 12 hours with moderate use. I have outlook running for 3 accounts and all my previous apps installed to compare. Where my Note 4 would be dead in 6 hours I am still at 46%. No issues on AT&T right out of the box. Full 4G and no provisioning needed like others have mentioned. I do not miss my Samsung at all. I just wish the charging cable was 6ft.

Much appreciate the valuable feedback, my friend. What's the screen on time?
And as a Note 4 user... Probably used to the Samsung camera quality... How's the camera on this bad boy? ?
Really appreciate it again... Just so hoping for the Special Edition to be available again and a solid Root option!

Screen on time is almost 4 hours. I am at 17 hours since last charged and have been using the flashlight awhile tonight. Still have 15% remaining.
Camera is good so far, but I have not gone in depth with it. I can say it takes excellent video in medium to low light though, and the image stabilization works great. HD vids that bounce will make me sick when watching, but this is smooth.
The fingerprint sensor is fast and does not require you to wake the phone first. Just make sure to input your finger at different angles during setup.
The Asus flip case with the portal looking notification screen is more gimmick than protection. It looks cool but it attaches with a peel and stick backing and only covers the front and back. The protection it offers is minimal since it does not cover the sides at all. My Note 3 was all aluminum body and when dropped on its side without a case it punched a dent in that shattered the screen.

Thanks again good Sir... Wish that SOT was longer with a Full HD screen... I get that much with my LG V10 which is a 2K screen! Couple of other questions:
1. Does the software offer a one-handed mode?
2. Does the Camera have manual controls? 4K video recording?
3. Does the front camera have a "Beauty mode"?
4. Front camera is not a wide angle lens right?
Thanks again!
Back to the topic: Please anybody post in this thread if you get updates from Asus or see the phone pop up on the website again. Thank you! ☺

So far so good. AT&T had an issue with data service and it took them a few tries to get it to work. Eventually they had to use the IMEI number from my old phone on the SIM card to get data service as the AT&T database kept recognizing the phone as a motorola.
Camera does have manual controls and 4k video recording and it does have a one-handed mode. Front camera does have a "Beautification Mode", not sure on the wide angle.

My dads SD820 wouldn't recognize the sim card correctly either. I will have him goto the store again and have them do it
Are there any apps available to utilise the smart cover more effectively? It currently doesn't do very much.

Mine doesn't even work!
It turns the screen on for case mode when the top flap is tucked behind the phone instead of in front ..

It is a good idea, similar of what already happenned with LG and Samsung phones (that I kwow...) but only Call is really "active", as you can accept a call without opening the cover.
Apart from that I get sms notification but touching the icon on cover does nothing...
Cover does not work with third part sms apps, not even with other system apps such as calendar
it's actually not really useful coz the display will only last for a couple of minutes then it will turn the screen off.
I made a hole in my smartcase, so that I can see the notification LED. I used a tool that makes holes in a belt.
Hello everyone,
Got my wife a OP7 to replace her aging Edge 6. One of the features she absolutely loved with her Samsung was the official flip cover that had a transparent window through which you could control basic functions, like answer incoming calls or see notifications.
Does anyone have something similar to suggest for the OP7? I saw this on an ad here on XDA, actually and it looks ok; though the video in the ad actually showed that you can interact with the phone while the cover is closed, and in the description page it says that all it does is wake or put the phone to sleep. Typical chinese crap...
Anyhow, if you have any ideas, and especially if something is available in Europe, I'd love to hear from you!
Thanks!
I have ordered a cheap Chinese imitation of the Note 10+ S View case which when genuine makes the AOD display down the right edge so it is visible through the cases clear edge. I am presuming the imitation case will not do this so am asking how can I? (of course I might get a nice surprise but I doubt it!).
I'm sure I read how to do that somewhere quite awhile ago but any DuckDuckGo-ing does not turn anything useful up.
Going through settings did not prove fruitful either.
Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry, I have no idea, but I would be interested in your experience with this case, I was thinking of going down the same route, the official case being way too expensive.

I'm at the point where I think there are only 2 ways its going to happen, either the case has the appropriate bits that make it happen (which I doubt but you never know) or I have to trick the phone into thinking a real case is there.
The settings needed, in accessories it seems, to show the AOD down the right side, do not show up until the phone knows the case is there, from some quick searching it seems this is done with magnets and hall effect sensors to tell the phone the case is fitted, if the info I have stumbled upon is correct. I don't know why Samsung would not let people have the choice of the AOD down the side at any time if they would like instead of only with that case?
So if the case does not have these magnets I will play around until I get something with some small rare earth magnets and see what happens? It will be easy to glue them into the case if it works.
If none of the above works I may have to anti up for a real case....drat.
I like 'em but I'm not sure if I like 'em that much!
(it just struck me that I do not need to wait for the case to try some magnets and see what happens!).
EDIT: ok bad news I'm afraid - the AOD down the right side is NOT on the Note's screen, its on the clear part of the case which is a screen of sorts itself! The case has quite a few tricks and is probably why it costs so much. Bummer. Oh well, the cheap Chinese case will do for now while I agonize over whether to part with the dough for the real Sammy case! I may find that I don't like that type of case that I have to open all the time and I found out cheaply! That's about the only good outcome.
I'm not sure exactly which case you are referring to but the Samsung Clear view cases are just that, a clear part in the case that lets you see the screen.
So possibly some bad news, I have one of the LED cover cases, could be different but when I put the case on the phone it unlocks an app and wallpapers in the phone that let you control the case. In the LED Cover app, the case has its own serial number and strangely, the date I "registered" the case with the phone and there is a date when the software will expire in 3 years. So without access to the app, I think you're stuck.

Yes without the case to tell the phone its there and activate the setting in accessories nothing will happen. I have since found out that the info about the case having a screen is wrong, don't trust Youtube! It is the Note's screen that does everything, after watching another couple of vids I could see the AOD display on the Note's screen briefly when they opened the case.
I wonder if any app developer would like to write a small app to make this happen whenever a person would like, that would cure the problem. I asked in AOD notify thread about this. I'm sure it would not be too hard at all. I think there would be a bit of demand especially from cheap case owners!
I should know by Wednesday at the latest if the cheap case tells the phone its there, it would be nice.
So the case arrived finally.
As expected it does not do anything, its just a case i.e. it does not tell the phone it is there. The special section in accessories is therefore not accessible. No AOD down the side.
The case itself is actually quite nice, seems well made, pretty good considering it was only 5 bucks.
Having said that I don't like the case when it is open, it makes holding the phone awkward so I most likely will not now ever buy the genuine Samsung case which will be the same in this attribute. I have heard this criticism about the sammy case.
I will use it for now to get my 5 bucks worth but will most likely take it off soon enough and put the sammy silicone case back on.
A shame because I like the look of the case on the phone closed and like the screen being protected but I feel that when open the case will likely be the cause of drops so it will have to go me thinks.
So a small update; There is an app in Play Store that will put an AOD style clock down the right side of the screen, right in the right spot for these cheap cases. It is called Edge Clock for S6 but works on most devices and on the Note 10+ too.
It at least makes use of the clear part of the case, kind of like you get with the genuine sammy case but it is just a clock and costs 4 bucks.
Seems to work quite well, different colors available etc. It is not an AOD but you have to run the app which makes the rest of the screen black while it runs the edge clock. I'm using it at home so my phone is unlocked which I find convenient, I get a kind of AOD display like I would of got with the real case so I'm kinda pleased with it.
I have gotten used to the case and have left it on, the initial dislike of when the case is open has passed and there have been no case induced drops, thankfully.
Hope this helps someone.
Couldn't you just have the AOD show the clock down the right side of the screen instead?

For me, there is the AOD setting for the right-side of the screen. When you are choosing your "Clock Style" in AOD settings, scroll through the list all the way to the right, where there is a 'clock' logo, click it, and there should be 5 additional settings. The last one listed there is the right-side option.

I'm on the N975W software, which is compatible with the N975U1, as I had that flashed for a couple weeks too. (Can't recall if the side-view was there or not, sorry)

Same here.
It would be nice if someone knew which APK it is with the AOD clock down the side so it could be downloaded and installed for us "not have's"!
The app I spoke of (S6 clock) is OK but it means when using it the phone is actually on and unlocked i.e. the app does not run on the lock screen.
Another Update.
I have found a free app that does what we were really looking for, AOD down the right side on the lock screen with clock, notifications, battery percentage etc!
HooRay!
It is called Always On Display Edge Lighting Super Amoled....yeah a mouthful but it works....except for 1 small problem but easily fixed me thinks.
For some reason it uses the proximity sensor and it switches the display OFF if the case is closed?? yeah I dunno why but I am going to drill a small hole in the case in the right spot to fix that PITA problem early tomorrow morning, bit late now.
So suck it sammy, I got my cheap chinese case AND my AOD for 9 bucks (case 5, first app 4 {now redundant}) second app free!
Hope I have helped someone.
Your selecting the wrong icon select the one that looks like the clock
No need for another app
Your selecting the wrong icon select the one that looks like the clock

It does not matter which clock I select the one I want is not there.
As reported by others as well. Some have it, some do not.
Possibly a region thing, who knows.
Your picking clockface you have it it comes stock
uninstall clockface and I bet it's there
Then you will see it where it Is
Then reinstall clockface
Don't uninstall all of good lock just clockface
