Make use of smart cover - Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design Questions & Answers

Are there any apps available to utilise the smart cover more effectively? It currently doesn't do very much.

Mine doesn't even work!
It turns the screen on for case mode when the top flap is tucked behind the phone instead of in front ..

It is a good idea, similar of what already happenned with LG and Samsung phones (that I kwow...) but only Call is really "active", as you can accept a call without opening the cover.
Apart from that I get sms notification but touching the icon on cover does nothing...
Cover does not work with third part sms apps, not even with other system apps such as calendar

it's actually not really useful coz the display will only last for a couple of minutes then it will turn the screen off.

I made a hole in my smartcase, so that I can see the notification LED. I used a tool that makes holes in a belt.

Samsung flip cover

So I got a flip cover from the Samsung US website and it doesn't snap on my note. The little prongs are very short and don't even line up properly. A couple of the corners seem to snap on, but the other two don't, and the whole cover just doesn't stay on at all. Really crappy manufacturing from an original Samsung accessory. Very disappointed with Samsung on this one...
are you using this on International Note? The back cover of US model is not compatible with the International model.
And sometimes you really need to apply some pressure to snap it in place first time.
I'm using the international flip cover with the international Note and am very impressed with the quality and finish. Fits like a glove and looks exclusive too.

Personally, I don't like the booklet/diary cover type case on the Note...
In taking or dialling a call, you have to flip it all the way to the back of the phone (just for the sake of it.) For me it's kind of awkward to hold on with the flip cover being flipped at the back.
I like the flip down cover case more. No hassle, just flip it down when your going to use your Note, and flip it up again when your done using your phone.

Yes.. I agree, I got one with the note when I bought it 4 months ago, and I didn't really like how you have to fold it back to make/receive a call. I took it off and now its just sitting in my drawer and now I am using my note without any case as it just looks good without any case. I just didn't want to add any bulkiness as its already a big phone...
just bought a flip down leathercase (black), Now I'm really not feeling awkward in using my phone...
Using the flip diary cover back then was a cumbersome part really on my end to use my phone (especially in calling)... Now that I bought the flip-down leathercase....
I get the ease of use and better protection already .. all rolled into one

The Samsung flip cover is nice and thin, but I gave up on it because it does not fit in the Car Dock or the desk dock. I would like one same in concept, but flip over the top - just like the Palm Tungsten T3 I used for years.

Bending the cover/lid all the way to back, is not my take of convenience... IMHO..
I would prefer the flip-down cover, where if you would use the phone (taking/receiving calls or what-nots), its just a simple way of flipping down the cover, no strain needed at all.... (as compared to the diary/booklet type where you really have to exert some force bending the face cover all the way to the back of it and hold it with with your hand).
That's just my take anyway... I guess to each its own.. whichever suits your fancy..
Why u should NOT USE that flip cover..
People I am giving you a video review of why u should NEVER USE that flip cover if u love your Galaxy Note..n after watching it u will agree with me..

We five friends took 5 notes at the same go and got the same flip cover by Samsung, free with them,
3 out of five were perfect fit, however two of them were not completely flushed with the body as described by you, they replaced both of them in a week one was a fit and one was plagued with the same issue.
The retailer told that it was a known issue with the last lot of covers that he received.(He claimed returning 16 of those covers and directing four people to service center)
So this time we were redirected to a service center where they adjusted some groves on the phone and the same cover flushed properly with the phone.
All the three notes without the issues were for guys and the other two belonged to girls LOL ha ha ha well that's a different story.
Off topic:
I am not happy with the build quality of the flip covers as its just few weeks old and the leather(or whatever it is) is already peeling from different places had to use tiny bits of super glue..........
Confused
My people out here just wanted to know if there is any difference between the SGN I7000 and the ATnt version, HW wise am asking that too not internal.
Cause the other day I saw a hard case and holster for note, it was advertised just for SGN atnt 717, but not for I7000.
So my question is will it fit both?? Or is there any difference in the contours of the phone body??
TIA

Actually the atnt version is slightly smaller than the international version, but includes 4g lte. Also the exynos processor is faster than the snapdragon processor found in the atnt version. Also, the atnt version has 4 soft touch buttons at the bottom of the screen and the international version has 2 soft touch buttons, with a physical home button between them.

The Samsung flip cover is not that bad - it gives a fairly ok rear protection to SGN and gives the phone a classy look when viewed from the front.
The only protection for my SGN i still need is a screen guard
The add-on stock Samsung Flip cover is an eye candy alright, and I agree.. it gives a classy and sleekness on the phone itself.... BUT
comfortability and usability wise... it's another case already... I totally dislike the usability of it... It is not convenient (for me) using it especially on taking or recieving calls, It is totally cumbersome and awkward to flip it all the way to the back of the phone...
My vote still goes to the flip down cover... usability and comfortability for me is my first and primary concern, and that's all that matters to me.
The flip cover has a cutout for the speaker, so you could just leave it closed while taking a call. Granted, it's still uncomfortable to use with it flipped back.
No way... I'd rather prefer having my cheek pressing on the Note's glass surface rather than the cardboard cover itself..
don't you think it's too much awkwardness already? (flipping the cover all the way to the back of the phone and now talking and pressing your cheeks on the hard cover)

Keeps the glass cleaner, IMO.
They are pretty cool, and useful. It's saved my phone a couple times so far.
Got a cool green one for flash and a black one for cash (work) lol...
And the felt backing on the flip cover continuously wipes the screen clean of all fingerprints and such

Official LG Quick Cover

Got my nexus today and the official quick cover I ordered came with it too, even though the order indicated part dispatch. I had assumed this meant the case had been delayed.
Have to say it is a very nice case, feels great, nice snug fit and it is really thin. While it is still bedding in the front flap is lifting slightly when closed (see pic) but I am sure this will give a bit in the next few day's.
Not worth £35!!!!! But it is a nice case. If the spigen one is as nicely made (seem to be looking at pics and reviews) then it will make them a bargain
Nice, but I REALLY miss the Nexus sign from the back...

Yes, correct. Notification light is obscured by cover.
LG/Google case design = FAIL
Time to get out the drill or hole punch, shall I take the phone out of the case before I begin drilling?
haha, there aren't many pictures with a broken screen yet so do it! ;p
where did you get the quick cover? Play store?

Yes, play store.
Was in new gadget blindness mode and didn't really think about the cost, at £35 it is a bit too much.
I reckon at that price the hole punch cut out for the notification light should go for about £4 on eBay

You had me going there for a moment - I had to reach all the way past my keyboard at work to test your theory.
Phew, I am not an idiot after all, although most of my daily actions would prove otherwise, LGoogle have forgotten to poke a hole in their case!
I will have to ring them and see if they can mail me a hole upgrade? If the makers of polo mints can remember to put holes in their products, I don't see why LGoogle can't
What do you think Google will charge me for postage on a hole?
I really like it but to bad the nexus logo on the back is lost
Id love to get this but losing the nexus logo is a no go for me. I think ill just buy a real bumper.
Does that mean that the front flap isn't magnetized? I'd heard it was and that when you open it, it unlocks your screen.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I have the case as well myself. The flap IS magnetised. The magnet is actually located above the volume buttons, so that when closed the magnet touches the screen glass over the volume buttons.
And I agree, while the case is nice, it definitely isn't worth £35, more like £15 and that's pushing it.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Ok...how did you guys get the case? When I look in the Google Play store, it says "coming soon". I'm in Canada (eh?) and never have any issue purchasing other stuff. I got the white Nexus 5 and thought the white flipcase would look SIC!!!
I received my Quick Cover with my Nexus 5 on Monday. First time I have used a case like this and I must say I am impressed. It feels premium (perhaps not £35 premium) and does not add as much bulk to the phone as I expected.
I for one am glad it has no notification light hole as the light used to wake me in the night on my bedside table.
One question to any other owners, is the rear too thick for wireless charging to work?

Pretty sure wireless charging is fine with this case, think I read it somewhere?
I am sure LGoogle wouldn't overlook this, especially considering they are releasing a charger for the nexus devices too.

The hole in the picture is at the top for the earpiece so you can talk on the phone with the cover closed...
What happens if the flap is closed, you receive an incoming call and open the flap? Does that automatically answer the call? What happens to a call when you close the flap?
Thanks for your feedback.

Opening the flip just turns on the screen. All it does is it saves your pressing the power button. You still have to swipe to unlock if you have it turned on, still have to enter your unlock code etc. When there's an incoming call, after opening the flip you still have to swipe to answer/reject/silence the call. And closing the flip doesn't end calls either, it just turns off the display, or the speaker hole on the flip would be pointless.

Spigen Slim Armor View for Nexus 5

Check out my video review on the Spigen Slim Armor View:
https://wwwyoutube.com/watch?v=Kqc0gUDvueU
One thing I forgot to mention in the video is the auto sleep/wake function. This allows the screen to sleep just like with regular usage. When you wake the phone using the standby button the app will still be running.
I do not have enough posts to place an external link in a thread, so you will have to put a dot after the www in the link.
It would be great if someone could post the proper link.

Their app really really sucks. I don't know why I thought it'd be good. Mostly all of their products suck I'm kinda happy with the case but still have issues with it. Under the window its still plastic not rubber so the plastic is resting right on the screen and the front cover is really thin and it bugs me just because I can press down on it and it will touch the screen. I don't have a screen protector on it so this is a concern. Its alright but I'll definitely be looking for a new case. Hard to hold while texting and the hinge is kinda crappy. They say 360° but I don't see how they got 360 when that means a complete rotation. It flips on its back and that's only 180°. But at least it doesn't cover the camera.

Again to dig up the old topic...
but...
... no reason to start a new thread as anyone looking to buy this case should be able to find all opinions in one place.
I bought this case have extremely mixed feelings.
1, it's a great case. It fits well. The buttons require a little extra effort to push, but no big deal. Supposedly the flip cover is removable, but I haven't seen how to do it without breaking the hinge. I'm sure it can be done, but I'm afraid to push things. Definitely it makes the phone bigger and heavier, but I don't see that as a bad thing as honestly the phone is a featherweight without a case. One minor issue with the physical build, is that the bottom edge of the view window brushes the screen of the phone while closed. Being plastic, I'm sure it wouldn't affect the glass screen. However, it does appear to be starting to leave a worn spot on the screen protector of my phone after only a few weeks. Something to definitely think of if you use plastic screen protectors.
2, the software is incredibly incredibly terrible. Whether you use 3rd party or the official Spigen app, they both bite the big one. I can't review each separately because I swapped between them constantly as new problems appeared, and forgot which one had which problems. But problems included: battery usage. phone calls not answering. phone calls answering themselves. can't connect bluetooth outgoing calls without opening flip cover. randomly lists previous calls as still ongoing. Additionally, though this isn't technically software, you have to be exceedingly careful not to even get near the proximity sensor while using the phone or it will trigger the app. Even with a 2 second proximity delay, I found it was very hard especially in landscape mode (such as taking pictures) to not accidentally trigger the sensor. Also, having the light sensor covered renders auto brightness non functional.
In the end, I still use the case. But without proper software support, I'm not sure it is worth $45. I ended up just putting widgets on my homescreens on the top 1/2 of the screen so I can see them with the flip cover closed. Answering the phone requires the ol' open the flip cover deal. That's better than the terrible software.
As far as protection... considering my Nexus 4 shattered from a drop onto dirt, despite having a Ringke Hybrid Fusion installed, I was looking for better protection. It appears this offers much better protection. It has already survived a 3 foot drop, initiated by a cranky cat, from a piano to a hardwood floor. Only time will tell, of course.
If you don't mind NOT having the software support... I feel this might just be the safest your Nexus 5 can be without placing it in a firesafe filled with expanding foam.
My buddy ordered this case a while ago, loved it, then hated it. Some of you were concerned about the view window touching the screen and potentially scratching it, well it did, for him at least. He now has a dull line across the middle of his screen. Almost the whole width. This only took 2 weeks of use. Just a little FYI for those interested in this case. You'll definitely want to use a screen protector with it.
Yeah my screen got deep scratches as well I can see them on the otherwise of my now installed screen protector. Its a nice case. Terrible window. And terrible app. The Galaxy S4 view armor had glass in the case itself. I bought this because I thought it did too.

I have bombed spigen's email with complaints and they do not even bother to reply - it's such a shame that a company would make a great case, with promises of a functioning app and not follow through. My brother (note 3) and my gf (S4) BOTH bought this case on my recommendation and they love it bc it just works. I know it's different bc we dont have the magnets to trigger the innerworkings but sheesh just give us something relatively useful and it would be okay.

I'd be willing to give a little pass on the proximity sensor issues if those were the ONLY issues.
Sooo, spigen supplys the case but no app?
Or does anyone have more info then that, i ordered the case before i read up on it in here... and now i have it laying on my desk and i am not sure if i sould unpack it or not.
Without the app the window is pointless... and i could have ordered the slim armor instead and saved a few bucks ...
but i really liked the idea of having my screen protected by a secon layer of defense .. first one is obviously a screen foil ...
can anyone confirm that the app is really missing or am i just to stupid to use the search function?

Galaxy S8+ Unofficial Clear View Case + NFC Sticker Pads

Right guys/gals this is for anybody who is technically minded
I have bought a third party clear view case ( I know i am sad) everything is nearly the same magnets kickstand etc.
My question.... Is their anyway to get the flip cover to work like the original reject calls etc?
Now if I under stand it right the case needs magnets and nfc to work so the phone can recognize that the case is a attached. The magnets are their but I m pretty sure the nfc isn't as the phone doesn't recognize the case.
Here is the technically minded bit... I have some nfc sticker pads and was wondering if I attached one to the case and somehow got the nfc sticker to work with the phone. would this be a way for the phone case to work like the original turning screen on/off and rejecting calls etc.
I know you can use apps like Tasker to have the proximity sensor turn the screen turn off and on but this is a big battery drain and also would not give me options to answer calls etc.
Thanks guys/gals for your patience
I don't think none of these cases uses NFC. I tried them while NFC is loud and they work just the same.

Note 10+ AOD along the right edge?

I have ordered a cheap Chinese imitation of the Note 10+ S View case which when genuine makes the AOD display down the right edge so it is visible through the cases clear edge. I am presuming the imitation case will not do this so am asking how can I? (of course I might get a nice surprise but I doubt it!).
I'm sure I read how to do that somewhere quite awhile ago but any DuckDuckGo-ing does not turn anything useful up.
Going through settings did not prove fruitful either.
Thanks for the heads up.

I'm at the point where I think there are only 2 ways its going to happen, either the case has the appropriate bits that make it happen (which I doubt but you never know) or I have to trick the phone into thinking a real case is there.
The settings needed, in accessories it seems, to show the AOD down the right side, do not show up until the phone knows the case is there, from some quick searching it seems this is done with magnets and hall effect sensors to tell the phone the case is fitted, if the info I have stumbled upon is correct. I don't know why Samsung would not let people have the choice of the AOD down the side at any time if they would like instead of only with that case?
So if the case does not have these magnets I will play around until I get something with some small rare earth magnets and see what happens? It will be easy to glue them into the case if it works.
If none of the above works I may have to anti up for a real case....drat.
I like 'em but I'm not sure if I like 'em that much!
(it just struck me that I do not need to wait for the case to try some magnets and see what happens!).
EDIT: ok bad news I'm afraid - the AOD down the right side is NOT on the Note's screen, its on the clear part of the case which is a screen of sorts itself! The case has quite a few tricks and is probably why it costs so much. Bummer. Oh well, the cheap Chinese case will do for now while I agonize over whether to part with the dough for the real Sammy case! I may find that I don't like that type of case that I have to open all the time and I found out cheaply! That's about the only good outcome.
I'm not sure exactly which case you are referring to but the Samsung Clear view cases are just that, a clear part in the case that lets you see the screen.
So possibly some bad news, I have one of the LED cover cases, could be different but when I put the case on the phone it unlocks an app and wallpapers in the phone that let you control the case. In the LED Cover app, the case has its own serial number and strangely, the date I "registered" the case with the phone and there is a date when the software will expire in 3 years. So without access to the app, I think you're stuck.

Yes without the case to tell the phone its there and activate the setting in accessories nothing will happen. I have since found out that the info about the case having a screen is wrong, don't trust Youtube! It is the Note's screen that does everything, after watching another couple of vids I could see the AOD display on the Note's screen briefly when they opened the case.
I wonder if any app developer would like to write a small app to make this happen whenever a person would like, that would cure the problem. I asked in AOD notify thread about this. I'm sure it would not be too hard at all. I think there would be a bit of demand especially from cheap case owners!
I should know by Wednesday at the latest if the cheap case tells the phone its there, it would be nice.
So the case arrived finally.
As expected it does not do anything, its just a case i.e. it does not tell the phone it is there. The special section in accessories is therefore not accessible. No AOD down the side.
The case itself is actually quite nice, seems well made, pretty good considering it was only 5 bucks.
Having said that I don't like the case when it is open, it makes holding the phone awkward so I most likely will not now ever buy the genuine Samsung case which will be the same in this attribute. I have heard this criticism about the sammy case.
I will use it for now to get my 5 bucks worth but will most likely take it off soon enough and put the sammy silicone case back on.
A shame because I like the look of the case on the phone closed and like the screen being protected but I feel that when open the case will likely be the cause of drops so it will have to go me thinks.
So a small update; There is an app in Play Store that will put an AOD style clock down the right side of the screen, right in the right spot for these cheap cases. It is called Edge Clock for S6 but works on most devices and on the Note 10+ too.
It at least makes use of the clear part of the case, kind of like you get with the genuine sammy case but it is just a clock and costs 4 bucks.
Seems to work quite well, different colors available etc. It is not an AOD but you have to run the app which makes the rest of the screen black while it runs the edge clock. I'm using it at home so my phone is unlocked which I find convenient, I get a kind of AOD display like I would of got with the real case so I'm kinda pleased with it.
I have gotten used to the case and have left it on, the initial dislike of when the case is open has passed and there have been no case induced drops, thankfully.
Hope this helps someone.
Couldn't you just have the AOD show the clock down the right side of the screen instead?

For me, there is the AOD setting for the right-side of the screen. When you are choosing your "Clock Style" in AOD settings, scroll through the list all the way to the right, where there is a 'clock' logo, click it, and there should be 5 additional settings. The last one listed there is the right-side option.

I'm on the N975W software, which is compatible with the N975U1, as I had that flashed for a couple weeks too. (Can't recall if the side-view was there or not, sorry)

Same here.
It would be nice if someone knew which APK it is with the AOD clock down the side so it could be downloaded and installed for us "not have's"!
The app I spoke of (S6 clock) is OK but it means when using it the phone is actually on and unlocked i.e. the app does not run on the lock screen.
Another Update.
I have found a free app that does what we were really looking for, AOD down the right side on the lock screen with clock, notifications, battery percentage etc!
HooRay!
It is called Always On Display Edge Lighting Super Amoled....yeah a mouthful but it works....except for 1 small problem but easily fixed me thinks.
For some reason it uses the proximity sensor and it switches the display OFF if the case is closed?? yeah I dunno why but I am going to drill a small hole in the case in the right spot to fix that PITA problem early tomorrow morning, bit late now.
So suck it sammy, I got my cheap chinese case AND my AOD for 9 bucks (case 5, first app 4 {now redundant}) second app free!
Hope I have helped someone.
Your selecting the wrong icon select the one that looks like the clock
No need for another app

It does not matter which clock I select the one I want is not there.
As reported by others as well. Some have it, some do not.
Possibly a region thing, who knows.
Your picking clockface you have it it comes stock
uninstall clockface and I bet it's there
Then you will see it where it Is
Then reinstall clockface
Don't uninstall all of good lock just clockface
