Wifi Calling option gone! - Samsung Galaxy A70 Questions & Answers

Iv just noticed that the wifi calling option is gone/broken with latest firmware (for me thats the 1st of Jan update here in the Uk and using O2 network), and yes i have it enabled within O2, its 100% the firmware, there was no errors in the update so i guess samsung done goofed.
It will show for few secs when you restart the phone and quickly go to the phone/dialer app, open the settings and choose wifi calling, then it will grey out shortly after, when you close app and reopen it the setting will be gone completly like it never existed, even the quick setting for it will be gone.
Just letting people know as they might have same issue.
Just noticed that VoLTE calls option is also greyed out now, worked perfect before the firmware update too
Did a clear partition cache but no luck either

Wifi Calling issue

This morning I decided to do the lollipop update, everything seemed to go well and im pretty sure my wifi calling was working after I did the update, now later on this afternoon I cant get it to connect its showing a wifi calling symbol on my notification bar with a slash through it and keeps telling me Wifi Calling connection error, anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks!!
Yep, I'm getting the same thing today. It happened the other day and I restarted my phone and it resolved itself. Today a restart hasn't fixed it. No idea why it's not working. Nothing has changed with my phone's software. Doesn't make any sense.

I didn't try WiFi calling since the update last week, and sure enough, I had the same issue. I even went as far as doing packet captures on my network to see what the issue was. I found a few "fixes" on the Sprint forums but none worked. So, I have two SSID's at my house, one is 2.4Ghz and one is 5Ghz (a new access point) I always connect to the 5ghz here at the house (but I don't use wifi calling at my house). So, for the heck of it, I switched my connection to the 2.4Ghz and turned on Wifi calling and BAM! It worked(I had previously used wifi calling on this network when I was testing it out when I first got my phone last year)! I switched back to the 5Ghz, didn't work. What I did to get it working: While I switched back to the 2.4ghz AP, i went into SETTINGS-WIFI CALLING, pressed and held on the 5Ghz network and tapped "remove", then re-added that SSID to wifi calling and now it works.
Please note I also have "Wi-fi Range Alert" and "Update address Notification" selected in Wi-Fi Calling settings (three dots on the upper right hand) and it did ask me to update my address information (and I saved the information). Not sure if this is critical, but I can only say this fixed the issue I had. Also note that I had previously tried:
1) Clearing the cache from APPLICATION MANAGER-ALL-> WFC SETTINGS and WI-FI CALLING
2) Dialing ##72786#
I can't say for sure doing the above two things actually did anything to help.
Earlier I tried reprovisioning my phone and it didn't fix it, also tried other things, so decided to give sprint a phone call a little bit ago and they had me go through the provision process again but they were refreshing it on they're end and it fixed the issue, hope the same works for you!!
Edit: Maybe that's what I didn't do was clear the cache before provision, I did it after wards!

It was fixed, now its doing it again, I bet its this sweet modem that im renting from Comcast, what a joke of a company
Having the same issue sperradically. Literally just before clicking on this thread I went to my phone and it had the symbol with the exclamation mark, pulled it down said "Connection Erro..." tapped on it, made a 'boop' sound then nothing) which is what I had since I got home around 5:30 today... and by the time Ifinished reading these posts, it went back to "WiFi Calling is Ready"
today I wonder if they were doing maintenence or something since a lot of ppl had the problem, (for me I first turned it on day-before-yesterday and it worked great till today though I might just have been lucky) I tried turning it off and on, I tried forcing stop and restarting, re-setting my location, etc and I still got the same error till just now, so... yeah... Sprint WiFi Calling seems flakey... (I have a skype in/out account I've been using for calls since I dont get decent reception and was hoping to replace it with this, but...)
Same here, decided to update this morning and WIFI calling is dead Jim. Tried reprovisioning after a cache clear, no change. Still dead, which sucks because I depend on it due to my in house signal being so poor.
Anyone have any other ideas?
If your desperate you can do what I did to solve my lack-of-reception...
Set up Skype
Add a skype-in number (~$4/month iirc)
Add skype out subscription (~$4/month iirc)
Activate "Google Voice Integration" on your sprint account
Add the skype-in number to google voice
turn off voice to the sprint mobile device (inside google voice)
Now when people call your number it gets routed through google-voice to skype, which will ring on your phone like normal. (just dont plan on getting a Gear because so far I've found NO way to accept/place skype calls using the gear)
Follow up that has fixed my issue with WFC after the 5.01 update on my Note 4.
Contacted Sprint via Chat.
updated Profile and PRL under system update in settings.
Pulled the battery for 30 sec and restarted. Turned on location and updated E911 settings and I'm back up and going.
Update:
For the last two days I've had no issues with wifi calling except when I went to town (where I dont need it anyway) it even reconnected and worked when I got back home. Dont know if it was a fluke or I've just been lucky, but it seems to have stabilized for me (at least for now) will report back it if acts up again.
UPDATE 2:
welp, looks like I jinxed myself. not been able to use wifi calling all day now...
Noticed a pattern though, last time it did this was when it rained, I wonder if wifi calling requires the GPS to be connected so rain kills it. (or it might be a coincidence, just something to think about)

Don't rent modems from the cable company. Usually its a cheap piece of crap. For what they charge you to rent the modem you can buy one on anazin/newegg and it'll pay for itself in less then a year

Note 5 Wi-fi Rapidly Switching On And Off

Firmware: 6.0.1
Model: SM-N920A
UPDATE: Problem solved. Turns out it's an issue with the WIFI scanning in LOCATION, not in the wifi settings. While I still think this is an issue with the firmware, at least there's a way to get it to stop freaking out until they get it fixed.
Whenever I turn on the Wifi, it will often begin a cycle of rapidly turning off and back on again. If you watch the switch that indicates 'on' and 'off', it's constantly fluctuating between the two. -Immediately- after the switch shows it's turned on, the text just below the switch says "turning off.." and it turns off, immediately afterward turning back on, and the process repeats constantly until the phone dies.
Something is either forcing it to turn off, or forcing it to turn on. I've tried adjusting the settings for my third-party texting app (Textra), and even after disabling the entire app and using the stock one, the issue persisted.
I've tried restarting, I've tried clearing the cache via the bootloader.
I've exhausted the entire suite of options in settings for anything Wifi related, no configuration of settings has resolved the issue, including turning off wifi scanning.
I've tried entering the combination of "#", "*", and 0's and 1's (can't remember it off the top of my head) to access the wifi settings to turn off the power saving, but my phone under the listed model and firmware showed no such option.
The problem persists in any location, so I know it's not anything to do with the network I'm trying to connect to.
The only way I've gotten it to stop is going to the wifi settings menu, and rapidly tapping the switch while it constantly goes back and forth. I've managed to get it to stay in the "on" position, but that's the closest thing to a fix I've been able to find.
I've combed through many threads in the AT&T Note 5 troubleshooting topic, and can hardly find anything that describes this particular issue, only with wifi "not staying connected" or other obscure descriptions that upon further inspection were -not- the issue I'm having here.
Were it up to me I would root the thing and put stock Nougat on there and be done with it. But alas, AT&T has removed that option.
I am willing to do a factory reset, but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this issue and if there is any other way to solve it, so I can avoid it in the future.
Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Like I said, I've exhausted all possible options in the menus relating to wifi.
This is what I see when I go into the "Advanced" settings in Wifi.
Network Notification (on or off)
Hotspot 2.0 (on or off)
Keep wifi on during sleep (never)
Auto connect to AT&T wifi (on or off)
Install network certificates
MAC address
IP address
That's all there is. I just factory reset my phone, restored it, and the problem in the OP persists.
I rebooted it in safe mode, and the problem still persists. At this point, it looks like it's an issue with the individual handset, unless there's anything I've missed. This is beyond frustrating.
Sorry but can you explain to me how you stop this from happening?
Mine going crazy from time to time, drives me nuts, and i can't stop it.
Btw this doesn't exist on my AT&T Note 5 --> Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Kill AT&T Wifi Direct and AT&T Hot Spots.. Remove them as System Apps also.. You should get a message that it is replacing it with the stock version somewhere along this path then your wifi will work flawlessly again even with 5GHz, go figure I guess Google does a better job at WiFi.'
Edit: (sloppy instructions)
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
"MORE" top right corner
CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS
<disable AT&T smart WiFi and anything else that is AT&T or Samsung, including theme nonsense if you want)
Now remove it from Apps....
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
Force Stop AT&T Smart Wifi. Disable AT&T Smart WiFI.. (Select Storage in same screeen, restrict background data.. Remove permissions)
I realize some of my steps are redundant but AT&T will update stuff then turn those apps back on somehow.. But not if you gut it like I described above

WiFi calling

Hey Guys,
Moved from the original pixel to the S9. On the pixel you could turn on WiFi calling through an option on the phone dialer. I can't see the same option on this dialer. Went into Vodafone and they told me that the phone defaults to WiFi calling when the signal is poor. Is this the case or am I being fobbed off? Making calls is really poor when in my house.
Cheers
It needs to be switched on in Connections/WiFi calling in Settings.
i believe it only works it the phone is bought from Vodafone - i know i asked them once and said only Vodafone phones can do wi-fi calling
Bobbed into three today to ask about it even unlocked handsets should have the Wi-Fi calling option she said wait for the samsung update which is out on Friday so hopefully all handsets follow suit

This seems to be carrier dependant. With a three SIM I do it see the option but I can if I switch to an EE one.

I have wifi calling available on my s9 plus which I bought direct from Samsung, go to the dialer, click the 3 dots in the top right corner. Then select settings, scroll to the bottom and you will see the wifi calling option which can be toggled on or off
It's not on mine I'm on three UK but on BTU handset
I'm hoping the update on Friday will give me the option
Sent from my SM-G965F using XDA Premium HD app
Ok so here's the kicker...the option appeared and I turned it on. Since then I have factory reset my phone (massive battery drain). Upon booting back up the option had disappeared again. Spoken to Vodafone and they have disabled and enabled it in my account but still no option to turn it on on my phone. Also got the march security update last night and still no option. This is driving me crazy
I've also got an S9 direct from Samsung (BTU), on Vodafone UK
- I'm assuming because they allowed WiFi calling on the S6, S7 and S9 with non-Vodafone firmware, that they'll allow it on the S9. It's the only thing I really need.
I hate carrier firmware, but would flash for WiFi calling as my signal at home is rubbish - I flashed my S8 on Three to get WiFi calling and VoLTE. But I'm a bit scared to flash the S9 on Vodafone in case I get the German CSC issue crop-up (does anyone know exactly what conditions cause this to happen?)
I'm not actually too fussed about VoLTE on Vodafone as their 3G signal is pretty strong everywhere (apart from at my house!), but with Three VoLTE was vital to get a reliable signal in a lot of places.
What is this update on Friday (today?) - is this confirmed or is this just something that the Vodafone staff (or Three?) are fobbing people off with? First I've heard of it.
And it's gone again...trying to explain to the "technical" guys at the call centre results in me losing my temper and them supposedly ringing me back in 1 hours time because it will be fixed... Seriously getting p****d off!!!
Any further news on this?
I've got the toggle set to on, but still no wifi calling (just says not connected to network when trying to phone). I have also noticed the toggle switch appear and disappear at will - normally restarting the phone gets it back
So I'm guessing the only "fix" is to flash the three firmware on it?

Hi, i checked the Three website and the s9 doesn't yet show as compatible for Three wifi calling, i'm assuming that when they do it'll get enabled via a carrier settings update or something for unlocked phones (my unlocked iPhone worked this way).
For a list of the compatible handsets got to the website, not sure what the rules are about posting links so search for 'three wifi calling' and it's the top result in google.
True it doesn't list them, but upon speaking with three they state the device is supported for WiFi calling, but only if purchased directly through three. Reason for this is the device them comes with there carriers software to enable the feature.

Ah thanks, in that case it's false hope for me and i'm now completely stuck! really don't want to flash firmware.....
I'm on O2 and what they have you do is download My O2. Select the option to enable 4G and WiFi calling and it checks compatibility and activates it within 24 hours. Then follow the guide in this thread to enable WiFi calling.
The only problem is I can't tell if it's working or not. It does appear that the line is open longer. My current router doesn't provide the depth required to monitor traffic on devices connected to it. Annoying.
There seems to be a software issue with the s9 and wifi calling. For me, its available (Icon shows in taskbar) , then next minute it's gone. After a reboot it comes back. I made a wifi call when I saw the icon again, and it switched to 4g mid call and the icon didn't come back again until after yet another reboot. It always bombs out pretty quickly after a reboot. I woke up this morning and saw the icon return on it's own this time (hadn't rebooted since last night) only for it to then disappear yet again. It's very buggy. Got an iphone here too which annoyingly works flawlessly with wifi calling so it's not an issue with my router.
Wifi calling
I just pull my notification panel down all the way and wifi calling is just there I'm assuming you have to be connected to use it. It would be good if it was able to use wifi signals while you were out without having to be connected. Touch wood my calls have been good so I only use it at home when phone reception is not as strong

On a U.K. DUOs model on O2 WiFi calling is fine.
Do remember the phone is a bit picky about the WiFi network and at some places just wont enable it.

Htc M8 Er05 Wifi Calling Invalid Sim Card

I have an unlocked HTC One with a venom Rom. I have been using it for a number of years and am happy with it. I used a different phone for the last few months then went back to this HTC. Now, when I connect to wifi I get an invalid sim Er05 notification that comes up and I cannot get rid of it by swiping or any other means. When I press on it WFCService is displayed. Wifi Calling is not available to me. This is a Canadian phone but I think the carrier was Wind or someone who might have got their phones from T-Mobile.
I have read a lost of posts on this and the suggestion is to turn off wifi calling. When I try to do it, the box for it is unchecked and wifi calling is marked as disabled. I cannot check the box to enable it.
If I disconnect from wifi the notification disappears, but if I reconnect the notification reappears and can't be removed. I have tried reinserting the sim but it appears that this is a t-mobile feature and you need a proper t-mobile sim or you will get this error. But I have been using this phone for years and not seen it before. I have tried deleting the wifi calling service, but it recreates when the phone reboots. I have reinstalled Venom twice and cleared the cache and dalvik and that does nothing to help. I have booted in safe mode and still the notification appears. I would like to delete wifi calling permanently but do not seem to be able to.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this. The phone is rooted.
I flashed a backup from a few months ago and the problem is resolved. This means it was not the sim card or anything related to the phone. The only changes that I know were made to the phone were that I added three apps. Advanced task killer (I think this is the one that started the issue) Amazon and Grace Remote. I think one of these likely caused the wifi calling to activate even though it was disabled.
Of note is that I no longer have a wifi calling option at all in my settings. It is not there at all. Instead there is an "Internet Calling" option that cant be turned off but can be set to internet or internet and data.
Something glitched and I think it was one of the apps I used. Likely advanced task manager, but perhaps it was grace remote(an app to control my internet radio remotely). I doubt it was the amazon app.

Anyone else have Wifi Calling problems since update?

Just updated to Pie and cant get wifi calling to work. I have a constant pop up showing wifi-calling, tap here to confirm or update emergency location information. When I tap it says this may take a few moments, then never finishes and gives me an error
I got the popup one time, and it seems to have gone through, but I haven't made a call that I can say was definitely a WiFi call
Figured it out. Had to re-enable all my apps through bk disable and was able to proceed and set up everything
