I have a Verizon LG G3 VS985. I just got it today, whipped the ioroot on there, etc.
So now that Google has decided they hate SD cards I've been having a ***** of a time getting backups going from my SGS3 to the new phone. I finally made a local backup, and then using a PC copied all the local backups to SD. I tried to do it to the LG G3, but when I plug it in to my PC after installing the verizon drivers, it says it will perform better plugging it into a Superspeed USB 3.0 port... and the copy would take 6 hours instead of 3 minutes. The port it is plugged into is one. It works with 2 USB 3.0 drives and my SGS3 as one... why does the G3 not recognize that?
The phone is not actually USB 3.0. The cable might be, but Android phones are known to have issues with USB 3.0 ports.
LG G3's are not USB 3 able because USB 3 cables are designed differently (well, use a different connector) then USB 2.0 spec cables.
You can tell the difference because the USB 3 cables will look more like a cable that plugs into the Note 3, it has an "extra" nub on the connector. It would be impossible to plug a USB 3 connector into a G3 unless in the last two days they have created a new USB 3 cable that only requires a USB MICRO B 2 connector. If they did, please link me because Ive been looking everywhere =)

So how come my galaxy S3 doesn't whine about connecting it to a USB 3 port and I get massively better speed than with the G3?

It should still ready fine, however, it will only read/write files at the USB 2.0 speed. There should no be any issues, I would try another micro usb cable, and or USB port. Or you could just use a micro sd card and pop all of the files on there from your PC which will probably be faster.

Because your G3 requires a higher amperage for full charge speed then your gs3.

I've tried 2 other cables now, and both USB 3.0 ports on this laptop. I'll have to try at work and see if I have USB 3.0 ports there. It's just weird, the same port and cable have no warning with other phones (my rezound and gs3 both didn't whine) or with usb 3.0 flash drives. Just this phone.

I'm not sure how that would affect data transfer speed... Charge speed, sure. Data transfer speed though...
I ended up just popping the files on the internal of the gs3 and copying them to the computer, then to the sd card while in the gs3. Then just put the sd card into the g3, where it read fine.

I just tested mine with a USB 3.0 port on my PC without any issues. I also tried a USB 2.0, and again no issues. I don't have an answer, it could be your phone, or a setting on it. What mode are you using to transfer files PTP,MTP or the LG PC Suite?

MTP. But since it's verizon it has a weird default of "connected as installer" which isn't even in the options, then I have to choose MTP.

Because your phone is not usb 3 and requires a 1 amp charger for faster charging speeds. USB 3 VERY RARELY has 1A ports, they are usually between 500-700mA which means when you plug your phone into the computer you aren't getting the full amperage needed to fully charge speed at capacity. Combine those two issues and you get the error you get about plugging the phone into a higher speed port. If you are having problems with transfer speeds being that slow, either your phone, cable or port are borked. Try reinstalling/updating your USB drivers, try new cable or check a different phone with the same USB power requirements if you want to test where the problem is but you will NEVER get USB 3 speeds because you do not have a USB 3 port on your phone, you have USB 2.0 HS

Have you tried LG's PC suite to transfer files? It works fairly well, I know its not idea, but it may help out.

it is. I agree 100%.
This may sound strange, but if you look at the USB port inside the G3 you can see that it has additional connectors in it, recessed deeper in the socket, either side and on the end of a small plastic tab that goes from top to bottom in a square shape (about 2mm in size). Perhaps these are causing PCs to incorrectly detect a USB3 capable device?
USB 3.0 on LG-G3
I am running CM13 nightly 031316 on an LGG3 D-851. I have a dual ended USB 3.0 thumb drive It has a USB 3.0 standard connection on one end and a micro USB connection on the other end. Reading these posts am I understanding that the LGG3 will not recognize the thumb drive? Or will it not recognize just being connected to a USB port on a PC?
Thanks
I have a usb c to usb c i-orange cable plugged into my computer and when I try to enable Fast File Transfers I get "USB 3.1 Unavailable. Make sure you're using a USB 3.1 cable. The other connected device needs device also needs to support USB 3.1" My ASUS Maximus VIII Hero motherboard supports USB 3.1 and I have the right cable. Has anyone actually gotten this working? Running Windows 10 64 bit and have the latest drivers/firmware for my system.
Thanks
EDIT
****Nevermind**** BE VERY CAREFUL ORDERING i-Orange CABLES on AMAZON.*******
When you select the USB 3.1 i-orange cable there is a list of color and size options below. All of them but 2 cables are USB 2.0 Type C connectors and not USB 3.1 The usb 3.1 type C cables are only 3.3ft, the longer cable I chose is actually a USB 2.0 Type C cable.
The industry is making type C a nightmare to deal with, there should only be 1 type C to type C cable.

I didn't know about this but today was the first time trying to transfer files from my HTC 10 to my pc through the usb 2.0 port using the official htc cable that came with the phone and it was painfully slow. I have 3.0 ports on the back of my pc but I know it shouldn't be this slow. I'm transfering files to a Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Stuff that should only take 5-10 seconds to transfer takes like 3-5 minutes.
I have fast file transfer working on an A-C USB 3.0 cable (not USB 2.0)
You have to enable "charge mode" then the option is available.
Fast file transfer doesn't work in normal MTP mode.
BTW Monoprice has high quality cables for very inexpensive.
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
I bought a USB3.1 gen 2 cable from Amazon (support for 5Gbps transfers for the HTC 10, but can also do 10Gbps for future-proofing), and connected it to the USB3.1 port on my motherboard (ASUS x99-m WS), but speeds are still definitely not USB3.1 gen-1 5Gps.
Transfers may be working at USB3.0 speeds (which does ~1-1.25Gbps IIRC?), but transfers are definitely not working at USB3.1 gen-1 5Gbps speeds.
I tested this by transferring a 700MB file from PC to phone internal storage (not SD card), then the same file back to PC, and it transferred slowly.
Transfers were slow even though "Fast file transfer" selected by going to USB charge mode and enabling Fast file transfer.
Does anyone have USB3.1 5Gbps transfers confirmed working? What cable/mobo are you using?
[UPDATED] Moved my comment to a separate thread here.
My computer won't even recognize when I have the phone connected via a usb-c to usb-c cable. Works fine usb-a to usb-c, but not when I go to either of the 2 usb-c ports.
Is there a different driver i need for my computer to recognize the phone on usb-c?
(it's a usb-c to c cable provided with a pixel phone, so should be decent quality)
tl;dr As per title, does it work for you?
I received a new OTG cable I ordered, a Type C to Type A USB 3.0 OTG cable and for me OTG seems to be working in USB 2.0 speeds only.
In Settings > USB connection the "Fast file transfers" option is greyed out so at least according to that it's in USB 2.0 mode right now.
I tested it with my Kingston DT R3.0 thumb drive and I only got sequential read/write speeds of 22.5/15.6MB/s when transferring data to/from my HTC 10.
HTC 10's internal storage is capable of ~ 160/110MB/s sequantial read/write respectively.
And the Kingston thumb drive is capable of 200/50MB/s seq. read/write respectively.
Hence it would be nice to be able to take advantage of the faster transfers..
So, what gives?
a) HTC 10 doesn't support SuperSpeed in host mode
b) bad cable
Regarding b, I'd rather not dissect this cable. It was cheap but it's nice quality. And I need it..
The connectors are both of correct versions so that's not the problem and judging from the thickness and stiffness of the cable there's a bunch of copper running inside so all of the pins should be connected.
Hi all,
Current owner of a P2XL 128GB, running the .025 Nov patch. Everything works as expected, except, when I try to copy some data from my laptop using the USB Type A-C cable.
USB transfers (using a third party type A-C cable) are extremely slow. I mean, it took me well over 15-20minutes to copy 39MB of data in around 25 pictures. Similarly, it took me well over a minute to copy 2 x mp3 songs around 15MB combined. This baffles me...
I have used this same cable with my Nexus 6P for a long time and had no data transfer speed issues and I also used this same cable to do all the unlocking and flashing earlier on the P2XL. Although I believe P2XL has a USB 3.1 spec Type C port, whereas the 6P was USB 2.0 spec.
My old cable (USB 2.0 spec):

New USB 3.1 spec type A-C cable I have just ordered:

Any of you experienced slow data transfer speeds or have any suggestions?
Problem resolved by using a different usb cable and PC. There is no problem with the phone.

Hey there,
I bought a new USB Stick (Corsair Flash Voyager GTX 512GB USB 3.1) as external storage for my ZenFone 2 but if I connect it with a USB OTG cable it does not even start up (the LED from the USB Stick does not flash).
Now the testing started:
Does the cable work? Yes it does, I have 2 different USB OTG cables and both work on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (Lineage OS 14.1 - Android 7.1.2 Update 19th April 2018) WITH this Stick! -> that means, the cables are fine!
Does USB OTG not work with this device?
I connected my (realy) old 2GB USB 2.0 (OCZ ATV) and the LED is flashing and I can read/write to the Stick.
Maybe there is some trouble with USB 3.0?
My Kingston FCR-HS4 USB 3.0 cardreader does also work fine! ([email protected] if I write some files to it - Idle: [email protected]).
Does the stick need to much power?
I have a 'USB Safety Tester' that is just like a USB Multimeter (Volt & Ampere). I connected it with the stick to my PC and the SGS3 and it start up with about [email protected] at my SGS3 and [email protected] If I write some files to the stick it is about 0.2A max.
Then I wanted to see how much load can the USB connector (ZenFone) deliver. I connected the USB OTG and the USB Safety Tester to the ZenFone and then put a USB cable to the SGS3 to charge the battery of the SGS3 -> Idle Voltage: 5.04V Charging Voltage: 4.94V-4,95V @ 0,36A.
OK as you can see, it has enough power to handle the stick.
But what I realized if I connect the stick with the 'USB Safety Tester' is, that the ZenFone turns off the power (at the USB Port, not the device itself) instantly if I connect the stick to the phone.
After that I cant use other devices with the cable, not even the Tester without the stick (or any other device connected) - at first I have to disconnect and connect the cable again and the Tester start up!
But every time I connect the stick, the power turns off!
Any ideas how to solve that, I realy want to use that USB Stick.
Btw. I formatted it as exFAT and even as FAT32 (with the Software Fat32Formatter) - it makes no difference (because it does not even start up for sure).
Btw2. I dont know if this makes a difference but the stick is not listed as "Devices with Removable Storage" , it is listed at "Hard Disk Drives" on my PC (Win7).
