Camera Shutter sound not in menu - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Morning,
Is there a way to add this on our s10, so we can turn the sound off?
Stock rom with patched twrp and magisk.
Thank you

As far as I know there is not an option...I just put my phone on silent mode

Workaround turn system sound to silent, you can leave all other sounds on.

I do that already fella, thou can be a little nuisance turning down and back up, instead of just isolating camera click alone.
Hopefully one day down the line, it will be possible.
Best wishes :good:

Not really unless you need system sounds for a specific reason, personally all system sounds are annoying. It can be left at 0%

I found this in sound settings. Hopefully it will do what people are looking to achieve. Camera Feedback at the bottom.

I think it's a csc feature that enables it in camera settings.
If rooted, you could delete or rename the camera sound.
Code:
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg

Stupid Evo Tricks

If the phone is ringing and you want to ignore the call, simply turn it over and lay it face down. The ringer will go to silent and the caller will be sent to voicemail at the end of the rings.
Anyone else have any other little tricks?
Edit: This is different from the "quiet phone on pickup" feature/preference. This will 100% silence your phone and works wether that preference is set or not.

I like the fact that the screen turns off when it's up to your face.
You can get an app like LED desire light to use the led flash as a VERY bright flashlight

I tested it and it doesn't work for me.
What would be nice is to have it go to speaker phone like my TP2 did when face down.

I'm torn on this, it's a cool feature... but sometimes I feel I pull it away from my face and instinctively go to turn it on when I notice the screen is off, then as I am pressing the power it turns on and then back off!
Thankfully I am slowly getting used to it and subconsciously knowing that it'll turn on...
I forgot to say that flipping it over doesn't shut the ringer off on mine.

wierd it works for me
Wonder if it is a setting somewhere in the phone menu or possibly an app. I am going to guess an app. What happens when you are in a call and flip it over?
Use LED Light with Camcorder and Video with flash.
not really a software trick, but... the fact that fingerprints get cleaned off after keeping the phone in the pocket some some time. Hop in the car, drive around, pull out the cell to do some GPS, screen is CLEAN aka. no glare

Does the updated text selection feature count as a 'trick'? I don't remember having it on my 2.1 ROMs for the Hero. Either way, it's infinitely better. (To me).

I already have it enabled. I know that my ringtone goes quiet when I pick it up. I had my GF call me and I flipped the phone over and it didn't go to VM on her side.

Who said anything about flipping the phone over sending the call to voicemail ? It only quiets the ringer, until the call ends up being routed to VM normally

Anyone know of an app that will switch the phone to speaker phone if you place it face down? ....found one it is called Flip Speakerphone
Thanks! Flip Speakerphone is awesome!

Ringer Volume, Vibrate, Silent...annoying by design?

Here's a paraphrase from my wife, who is using Mango on a Samsung Focus. I couldn't answer her question, so maybe someone else can?
So I usually have my phone on vibrate, and I just turn the volume all the way down to enable vibrate.
Question is, how do I switch to completely silent?
When I use the volume button, the volume bar appears, and I can tap the icon on the far right to switch between ring, vibrate, and ring+vibrate. Where's silent?
If I go to Settings > Sounds & Ringtones, I can switch from vibrate to silent. Now, turning my volume all the way down puts the phone in silent mode, and tapping the icon on the volume bar switches between ring and silent.
Seriously? Must it be that tedious? Is there no way to have vibrate and silent both concurrent options? Can someone PLEASE explain this to me? It's driving me nuts.

As she already discovered, you can set it in settings. I don't see why it's tedious. If you do have more choices, it wouldn't be an one click switch. As far as I can tell, my Android phone does exactly the same thing.

Your wife is totally right.
This is the kind of stupid details that make WP7 so annoyning on a daily basis.
You will also notice later:
- that you cannot edit forwarded emails
- that you cannot select and send a PDF document
- that you cannot delete a bunch of pictures in the picture hub
- that you cannot add 2 mobile phone numbers to a same contact
- that you cannot paste a number into the phone dialer,
etc, etc, etc....
"Annoying by design" is a good definition of WP7 indeed...

You're kidding right? How about each press takes you to ring -> vibrate -> silent? That's what I call not tedious! And it's still a one click switch!

This very tedious…why aren't silent and vibrate both options up front? Basically, for my options I get to have ringer and just ONE non-ringer. I can have "ringer or vibrate" OR "ringer or silent." And I have to go to settings in order to choose between those two options?

Whoa, bro. Me, my wife and 4 other extended family members have made the switch to WP7 without looking back. I have very few gripes about the OS, and those I do I'm pretty forgiving of, new as it is. I haven't been bothered by any of those things that you were, but I can understand how they might frustrate some. I, for one, am happy to give them a little more time, because the OS experience in general WAY more than makes up for it.
This particular issue, the vibrate vs. silent issue, just seemed so obvious, that I was honestly hoping I was just being clueless and someone had an answer for me.

I take it Arturo is a notorious naysayer.
I think the killer thing is the ringer volume and media volume cannot be separated....
Normally,I set my alarm to the highest volume for the morning. Then, I'll bath and go to school.
On the way to school,I basically use headphone to listen to music...and Crap, the volume on the headphone almost hit me to deaf....

That's two clicks to go from ring to silent, not one. Right now, for people who don't need vibrate, it can be done in one click. You also can't go from vibrate to ring in one click. Right now, for people who don't need silent, it can also be done in one click. So basically you are punishing people who needs either vibrate or silent just so that you can go from vibrate to silent in a single click. What if I want ring and vibrate, should I have a forth choice?
I am not saying one way is necessarily better than the other, but you are making a different compromise that may not please everybody either.
Android also chose to have a two choice switch rather than three choice switch. There maybe some apps that would allow you to do it differently via a widget though.

I am not saying it's worse, I am saying it's a different compromise and not necessarily a better compromise. Personally, I prefer ring and vibrate, which is not even supported in your solution unless you have a 4 choices option.
My preferred solution is to open up the APIs to developers and make the OS customizable. Unfortunately, I think that's too Android for Microsoft.

As far as I can tell, the alarm volume is separate from the the other phone volume settings. Regardless of the volume settings, it seems to start off relatively quiet and get progressively louder as you let it go. Even with the phone on silent or vibrate, the alarm still goes off.

Um...4 choices (ring, ring+vibrate, vibrate, silent) is the ONLY way it should exist, as far as I'm concerned. I could care less whether all you use is ring and silent; if all I use is ring+vibrate and vibrate, ALL 4 options should be exposed ALL the time. You cannot convince me that allowing 4 options at a time inconveniences people so much that other people should be inconvenienced completely.

So you will need to click three times to go from ring to silent? Not to mention you will have to remember which comes after which. How is that any easier than click setting->ringtone->vibrate?
If you have to have 4 options, then either have two buttons (ring/silent, vibrate on/off) or have a drop down list. Either would require only 2 clicks at worst to jump between options.

All Ring/Vibrate/Silent options should be exposed, all the time. PERIOD. You should very VERY rarely need to go into settings, and certainly not to switch between two commonly used modes.
Counting "steps" is a valid way to talk about complexity. For example, someone could say "WP7 only requires one step, long pressing the camera button, to go from standby to camera. iPhone and Android require at minimum 2 steps: unlocking the phone and tapping the camera icon."
This cannot be applied to what I'm asking for, however! Tapping up to 3 times in the SAME PLACE to toggle between 4 ring modes is NOT 1 "step" more complicated than tapping 2 times to toggle between 3 ring modes! That's like saying that the volume rocker is poorly designed because you have to click it 30 times to get from the highest volume to the lowest volume!
I'm dissapointed by options in mango. I liked far more the prvious ringer or vibrate. I'mean why should i ever want an option to ring without vibrate. Thats a personal choice and let it be sationary, it belongs into settings menu.
About sound levels, I agree, that ringers / notifications should have sepperate controll, sth like nokia phones have, like 5 levels and thats it. And they should fix the bug if there is appointment notification in calendar then alarm clock does not work...
It's the little niggles that annoy people the most
Fortunately they're probably the easiest to fix
Hopefully this will be changed in an update, like saving camera settings was. I'd like to be able to click the icon when you press the volume rocker to go Ring and Vibrate, Vibrate AND then Silent.

[Q] camera - ticking/ static sound?

Hi there.
I bought an htc one m8 today and absolutely love it but I am trying to find out if my phone is defective.
When I go into the camera app and click that square with 4 circles at the bottom (the button that you have to press that takes you to the options page which asks if you want to take a Selfie, Camera, dual capture, video, pan360 and zoe camera), it will make a static/ticking sound. It will again make this same ticking sound when I click the back button to get out of that camera menu. I'm trying to figure out if that's just a sound effect or if it is not supposed to make that sound? Sounds kind of strange to be a sound effect lol. Can you guys check your htc one m8s and tell me if your phone also makes a tick/static type of sound when you click it and then click the back button? Thanks:fingers-crossed:
I attached a photo of the square with the 4 circles just in case.
Much appreciated:laugh:

Hi I just realized that my touch sounds option was never checked so it was never on but I am still getting a crackling sound? Just checked my friend's phone and his does not do this so I will definitely swap this one out for a different htc one m8 tomorrow.
Thanks though
If you don't find camera option you can try handset option button or can decrease your phone sound.
I tried an M8 today and found that it has ticking sound on booting and when playing music, looked like a hardware issue (voltage or something) so I returned before paying a $
The seller tried a factory reset but the issue was still here.
Weird to see these kind of issue on a 770$ flagship phone nowadays.

Listen, my device does not make any static sound. Turn your sound/music volume all the way down & see if it still does it. There is a known defect that starts with static sounds & clicking that can end with a broken camera lens. If you don't hear it with the sound turned completely off, then it is just the sound effects of low volume. If YOU DO HEAR IT with the volume completely off, then you are possibly in possession of one of the faulty devices that have an issue that can cause a cracked camera lens.

Not so weird. You find issues on $5,000 to $20,000 4K LED panels too. Anything that is mass manufactured is going to have some problem devices that either slip through QA/QC, or fail shortly after passing thru QC. You'll also find defects occasionally on $300,000 vehicles, $10,000,000 planes & $100,000,000 structures. It happens.

Notifications get stuck on silent

I put my Note 10+ on silent at night and it's on vibrate when I'm at work.
When I put it back on sound via the pull down panel, often the notifications do not go back to full sound which is rather annoying.
Is this a known issue?
Personally, I use "Bixby Routines" to set the locations where phone is on silent/vibration and on sound.
The volumes stay as they were when it changes and it works seamlessly.
Like you said, at workwhere I need it silent, it uses GPS to determine where I am and changes to vibrate , when I walk through the door at home it turns all sound back on.
Neat little feature that is hidden on the phone like soooo many awesome things...

LOL, it's a new feature exclusive to Note 10/10+...
Tried to install Bixby Routines onto the Note 9 but it fails...
To find little nuggets of information and awesome features, youtube is your friend... 90% you may already know but there are always little surprises there too, like how to send an sms at a certain time even if you don't have your phone with you. Good for espionage... Also you can set a reminder from a received sms to sound at a certain time and the message will show up on the screen again.
Always learning....
I have this same problem. It's rather annoying
I have a similar issue, but, in my case ALL notifications sound, except gmail, I've been trying anything that I could think of to no avail, I finally gave up and made a macro to sound when a gmail arrives, it's just a work around, but works
Same issue when using Volume buttons and Bixby Routine
Please let me know when someone figures this out. It is rather frustrating! So when I use Bixby Routine it knows the location of my workplace and automatically changes my phone to vibrate mode and when I leave work it changes the sound to turn back on. The only issue is that everything goes back to normal (ringtone, media, system, Bixby voice) except for notifications!
Even if I adjust my phone using just the volume buttons instead of the Bixby routine it would change everything to vibrate but when I change it back the notification sound is the only thing that stays silent while everything else goes back to the setting I originally had it at.
Ugh... I already cleared my cache with the physical button I thought it worked but it went back to doing the same thing...

Themes / Apps / Mods [APP][11.0][12.1][13.0] AOSP DIALER with Proximity checkbox (call recorder incl) + macro

Since proximity sensor on F3 is fairly useless/non stable on calls I compiled the [A11/A12] AOSP dialer with proximity checkbox. Install via Magisk.
Set dialer as default phone app (reboot) and check proximity ON (so proximity doesn't work anymore...)
In call :
you can either use your powerbutton or double tap on statusbar to dim screen.
or you can use a small macro add-on I made - Call_AutoScreen_On-Off_(F3) - which auto dims screen when call is started and auto lights up the screen when call is ended. How to :
install MacroDroid
import the unzipped macro
give permissions where needed (reboot/don't forget to nuke proximity in dialer ofc).
thx @anuppoudel for testing as well
Added A12 AOSP Dialer
Thank you @raystef66 for providing such a useful solution, most needed
Since I got the F3, I've gotten used to just manually locking the screen before I put the phone to my ear. So, what advantage do I get from using your modified app?
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your work! I'm just curious...

Ok, thanks...
1. The screen is locked with the app, but I have to manually dim the screen by pressing the power button? Hmm...
2. When the call starts I have to switch loudspeaker on and off again before I actually can hear the one who's calling (or the one I am calling resp.) over the earpiece (is there any solution for this bug out there? or has it even been solved and I'm still doing it out of habit? ).
Unfortunately, it seems that this mod would make the whole dumb workaround procedure even more frustrating (for me)

U can choose not to use. Dev is sharing his solution out of goodwill anyways

Point of this all is to nuke proximity sensor (more stability during calls) and let the macro do the job of auto dimming the screen when call gets active and waking it up when call's done. No more no less. So no more pressing the powerbutton or whatever.
Even with the macro running during call you can easily dt2w or press power button to wake screen. Dim it again by pressing the powerbutton again (or double tap statusbar). But how many times does that happen? Not much for me.
For you it does apparently because you have to press loudspeaker. Well you can as you did before on the other dialer you had. Only thing now is that proximity is disabled as well. So more stability.
In the past even with just pressing the power button I had wake-ups during calls. Proximity is unstable so therefore diabling it is the logic solution (for me).
As mentioned above, it's up to others to use it or not.
PS : in macro you can easily add some time to it before screen auto-dims so you have time enough to tap your loudspeaker. Or even add a speakerphone task. Up to you.

Unfortunately, the problem with the proximity sensor is extremely unsatisfactory - a feature that always worked reliably since my first smartphone was mightily screwed up by Xiaomi. I guess everyone who makes several calls per day is annoyed by the behavior and is looking for solutions. Therefore, it is of course highly gratifying if among the annoyed users there are also a few developers who can program solutions.
My frustration with the proximity sensor was not meant to blame the dev for not bringing a solution that works for me - the criticism is solely for Xiaomi. As I said, I appreciate the developer's work! Therefore, sorry if my post came across with a bad mood... I'm glad that the workaround app offered by the dev helps many users

Thank you for your answer! Earlier I was still unsure, now I know: the loudspeaker on/off "game" isn't over on my device - I just tested it. For an outgoing call, I have to deactivate the loudspeaker only after the ring tone, otherwise the earpiece remains silent. Unfortunately, this ring tone sometimes starts after 1 second, sometimes after 5 seconds - and sometimes without waiting time the call starts immediately. So, I don't think it's possible to create a universal solution with a macro.
The thing that works for me, on the other hand, is that the phone stays locked until I unlock it (lucky me! ). Initially, this accidently wake-up also happened to me, because I came to the fingerprint sensor with the index finger or thumb - but here I have now also re-educated myself
Anyway, thanks for not resigning yourself to the status quo and continuing to look for solutions!

Apologies if this is off topic but this thread will likely attract the right eyes.. Dialing hasnt been my big problem yet..
How do you deal with pocket wake up ?? Face unlock (maybe tap to wake ??) the position of the fingerprint reader mean this thing is constantly awake and pin lock failing in my pockets.. Driving me crazy.
EDIT :::
Testing it (pixel experience plus) my phone never senses, in any orientation.. Others report some form of sensing.
Upright.. hand to phone.. hand over phone.. I am not getting anything.
It wakes on movement.. It wakes to attempt face unlock (I guess).. It wakes on screen touch,, it never overrides that despite there being an option to prevent accidental wake up (which has no noticeable effect). I dont see what combo of settings may be correct here.
Its currently flat out unusable.. Its a mobile phone which you cannot put in your pocket and which wakes as you carry it. People cant be just accepting this...
Both ZIP files added over Magisk? Or one with TWRP and one with Magisk?

Can you please compile it for A12 too? Because most of the A12 roms doesn't have call recorder now. But your aosp app works good on A12 but has some minor theme problems.
Thanks in advance

I second this. I like having call recording when I call automated robot calls than I don't need to pay a attention and if I miss something I can relisten to it without a problem or with headphones if it was to quiet. It also works to set people up but in my state it's illegal to record someone who doesn't know their being recorder. So you would just be getting yourself in trouble to.
