Hi there.
I bought an htc one m8 today and absolutely love it but I am trying to find out if my phone is defective.
When I go into the camera app and click that square with 4 circles at the bottom (the button that you have to press that takes you to the options page which asks if you want to take a Selfie, Camera, dual capture, video, pan360 and zoe camera), it will make a static/ticking sound. It will again make this same ticking sound when I click the back button to get out of that camera menu. I'm trying to figure out if that's just a sound effect or if it is not supposed to make that sound? Sounds kind of strange to be a sound effect lol. Can you guys check your htc one m8s and tell me if your phone also makes a tick/static type of sound when you click it and then click the back button? Thanks:fingers-crossed:
I attached a photo of the square with the 4 circles just in case.
Much appreciated:laugh:

Hey, thanks for the reply! Can you instruct me on how to disable touch-sounds? I can't seem to find that option in the camera settings app :fingers-crossed::silly:

Hi I just realized that my touch sounds option was never checked so it was never on but I am still getting a crackling sound? Just checked my friend's phone and his does not do this so I will definitely swap this one out for a different htc one m8 tomorrow.
Thanks though
If you don't find camera option you can try handset option button or can decrease your phone sound.
I tried an M8 today and found that it has ticking sound on booting and when playing music, looked like a hardware issue (voltage or something) so I returned before paying a $
The seller tried a factory reset but the issue was still here.
Weird to see these kind of issue on a 770$ flagship phone nowadays.

Listen, my device does not make any static sound. Turn your sound/music volume all the way down & see if it still does it. There is a known defect that starts with static sounds & clicking that can end with a broken camera lens. If you don't hear it with the sound turned completely off, then it is just the sound effects of low volume. If YOU DO HEAR IT with the volume completely off, then you are possibly in possession of one of the faulty devices that have an issue that can cause a cracked camera lens.

Not so weird. You find issues on $5,000 to $20,000 4K LED panels too. Anything that is mass manufactured is going to have some problem devices that either slip through QA/QC, or fail shortly after passing thru QC. You'll also find defects occasionally on $300,000 vehicles, $10,000,000 planes & $100,000,000 structures. It happens.

Hi All,
Does anyone know how to get this working on our beloved HD's? I hate the way the screen goes completely black during a call, we can't use the light sensor to tell the phone that the call has finished and it is away from your ear (so screen comes back on a la iphone), and i keep doing things during a call with my ear!!
So this seems like the ideal solution - but i can't get it to work!!
I've copied over the file to the windows folder, then soft reset. Changed the registry entry for phoneLockEnable to 1 in HKLM/Software/HTC/Phone but still no joy!
All help would be greatly appreciated.

DF

Beside this transparent canvas, where can I get the orginal canvas?
I am using a offical ROM but I don't see this function!

that's interesting, because my screen doesn't go blank during calls and it happens quite often that i accidently disconnect a call (i suppose because i hit a button with my ear).
so in search for i solution i found in Advanced config a tab Light sensor > Light sensor polling which i set enabled. the explanation says "uses light sensor to automatically turn screen off when the phone come near from your ear to answer a call". so this should set it like the i-phone does, right?
hence when i tested it, the screen still was on, even when i put my thumb onto the light-sensor.
is this because i don't have a stock rom (i use Duttys HD V1.9b XTREME) or is there something i can do about it.
it would be really nice to have the screen locked when i answer a call and to outomatically unlock it if i remove it from my head to use some function on the screen..

Hi take55,
Yes, i'm aware of the advanced config tweak (also in HD Tweak), and as you correctly state, the screen should/will go blank on call connection (i'm running kwbr's A Touch Of HD 3.3.4 and mine doesn't, even with tweak applied!!).
Unfortunately, when the call ends and you move the phone away from your ear, the screen still stays blank????? I've read somewhere on these forums that it never will work like the iphone (not sure why, as the light sensor should recognise that we've moved the phone away from our ears).
So that is why i'm trying to get this other method to work. What i have noticed is that with the bmp copied over to the windows folder or with a cab i found by A-Math installed, my dialler locks up after every call (as if the transparent phone lock is in place) but i can't actually see it. None of the screen works and i have to soft reset. Maybe something is stopping the bmp to show on the phone....who knows.
It also might be the fact that this was designed for the Diamond (found the cab on the Diamond forums).
Just hoping some genius here might now how to sort this.
I've attached the cab file i've found, give it a try and see if you have the same issue as me.
Regards
DF

It has nothing to do with the BMPs but with the registry setting that the CAB also makes. It sets HKLM\Software\HTC\Phone\PhoneLockEnable to 1, in wich case you'll have to press the power button to unock (no need to soft reset). For the BMP to work the phone/dialer software will have to support it, otherwise it just locks the phone in the usual way: black screen, power button to unlock.

I've also found this problem to be quite annoying during a phone call but have found some sort of way to deal with it.
Firstly my ROM isn't tweaked, its just the basic one already installed.
After a call is connected, the screen switches off. But if you need to access the screen again during a call, I just press the "Back Arrow" key, one of the four hard buttons on the bottom which brings the screen back up again.
If you press the phone button instead whilst the screen is off, the screen lights up again but it puts the call on hold.
This probably isn't the best way to deal with this, but it seems to work for me for the time being, hope this helps anyone else here.

Useful info - I found this particularly annoying yesterday during a ouple of calls.
Also discovered Gyrator tries to turn the phone screen and was laggy - which was even more annoying!
Everyone!!!
CHECK THIS OUT - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=489034
Answer to all our prayers - a screen lock which uses the g-sensor and not the light sensor.
Now, when a call is connected, holding the phone to the ear blacks the screen, but when you bring the phone down (to use the keypad or something), THE SCREEN COMES BACK ON!!!!!!!
Tried and tested on kwbr's A Touch Of HD v3.3.4 (probably the best manila2 ROM out there!)

I found a clicking sound when I tap the phone on the top.
I have figured that it might be because of the camera lens,
because when I open the camera app and focus on something close the noise is gone.
I had the same noise with my nexus s but not as loud and clear as this phone.
Please anyone check if you have the same noise,
Thanks
Nope.

I have noticed random clicks when using the phone that sound like the camera lens or shutter. Probably some software bug
I noticed some clicking and realized it was the volume rocker. Hold the volume rocker and then tap the phone. the clicking stops on mine. I read around that the GSM Versions have a tighter volume rocker while the LTE models have the loose clicking one.
Settings-->Sounds-->Touch Sounds?
I turned them off because the sound wasn't always in sync with the actual screen touch. In fact, it was way out of sync far more often than not.

After reading the OP i started taping my screen and heard a slight click noise when i got up near top left quadrant of the screen. After reading this quoted post, the clicking noise is definitely the volume rocker for me.
I've never noticed it before and its not a big deal for me
Eh. Normal. I get it on my gnex. Had it on my n1.

Same here. It is definitely the camera...
Yea, its definitely the camera. Mine is somewhat annoying, whenever I set the phone down it makes a rattle sound, if I take my case off and tap around the camera it makes the sound. If I open the camera app and do it, its even worse. After opening/closing the app it gets better. Must be something with the shutter/lens in the Phone... Not sure if its on all devices or if we got a bad batch?
Its not the camera. That's the part of the phone that cause yur phone to vibrate via text or phone call ect, ect.....I noticed it a few years ago with my BB.

i dont have a clicking noise when tapping the top of the phone, but have noticed that my back cover is making a clicking noise. when i tap it, it seems to indent (piece of sh*t plastic, nexus one was hands down the best quality phone i've ever owned)
Some thoughts on my HTC One X: I love this phone it's amazing however there are 3 little issues I have encountered .
1. Video recording constantly goes out of focus (i upload and unboxing video of the HTC Bluetooth speaker and you can see the camera issues there).
2. Text message notifications do not work properly if at all, on three occasions I missed txt mssg because I didn't get a notification, I only saw them when I was looking up a contact or by browsing through my widgets.
3. The menu button is placed in the top right corner for many apps which forces you to reach for it,this button should have been placed in the bottom of the display for more convenience since that is where you hold the phone from.
Finally, while typing this, I realized that when using text trace, if you notice a word was mis typed after moving forward you cannot just double tap to get word suggestions or remove it,you have to back space the whole word. I hope HTC can issue a software update to address these issues.the sooner the better

1. That's Constant Auto focus, just turn it off in settings.
2. Reset your phone, I have no issue with Text notifications.
3. That's nothing to do with the phone, it's the way the App Implements the Menu button.

Strange issue. My note 2 has made the same lock sound when I press the power button to lock my screen (camera click sound) since day 1. Today it changed... it now makes a sorta chime when pressed to lock and a more musical chime when I swipe to unlock. Looked everywhere and cant figure it out. This is driving me crazy as ive had the phone for 2 years and changed nothing in my end.
Any help is appreciated....thanks in advance!

Morning,
Is there a way to add this on our s10, so we can turn the sound off?
Stock rom with patched twrp and magisk.
Thank you
As far as I know there is not an option...I just put my phone on silent mode
Workaround turn system sound to silent, you can leave all other sounds on.

I do that already fella, thou can be a little nuisance turning down and back up, instead of just isolating camera click alone.
Hopefully one day down the line, it will be possible.

Not really unless you need system sounds for a specific reason, personally all system sounds are annoying. It can be left at 0%
I found this in sound settings. Hopefully it will do what people are looking to achieve. Camera Feedback at the bottom.
I think it's a csc feature that enables it in camera settings.
If rooted, you could delete or rename the camera sound.
Code:
/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
