Stupid Evo Tricks - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If the phone is ringing and you want to ignore the call, simply turn it over and lay it face down. The ringer will go to silent and the caller will be sent to voicemail at the end of the rings.
Anyone else have any other little tricks?
Edit: This is different from the "quiet phone on pickup" feature/preference. This will 100% silence your phone and works wether that preference is set or not.

I like the fact that the screen turns off when it's up to your face.

You can get an app like LED desire light to use the led flash as a VERY bright flashlight

I tested it and it doesn't work for me.

What would be nice is to have it go to speaker phone like my TP2 did when face down.

I'm torn on this, it's a cool feature... but sometimes I feel I pull it away from my face and instinctively go to turn it on when I notice the screen is off, then as I am pressing the power it turns on and then back off!
Thankfully I am slowly getting used to it and subconsciously knowing that it'll turn on...

I forgot to say that flipping it over doesn't shut the ringer off on mine.

wierd it works for me

Wonder if it is a setting somewhere in the phone menu or possibly an app. I am going to guess an app. What happens when you are in a call and flip it over?

Use LED Light with Camcorder and Video with flash.

not really a software trick, but... the fact that fingerprints get cleaned off after keeping the phone in the pocket some some time. Hop in the car, drive around, pull out the cell to do some GPS, screen is CLEAN aka. no glare

Menu >> Settings >> Sound & Display >> Quiet ring on pickup
Check mark it to enable or vice versa.

Does the updated text selection feature count as a 'trick'? I don't remember having it on my 2.1 ROMs for the Hero. Either way, it's infinitely better. (To me).

I already have it enabled. I know that my ringtone goes quiet when I pick it up. I had my GF call me and I flipped the phone over and it didn't go to VM on her side.

Who said anything about flipping the phone over sending the call to voicemail ? It only quiets the ringer, until the call ends up being routed to VM normally

I've only gotten that to come up once for me and I don't know how I did it. It's just like the iPhone though.

Anyone know of an app that will switch the phone to speaker phone if you place it face down? ....found one it is called Flip Speakerphone

Thanks! Flip Speakerphone is awesome!

I don't think a mod is required for this.
Doesn't Settings > Sound > Uncheck "Quiet ring on pickup" do this for you?
not exactly
this option gives you a posibility to quiet a ring when your phone make a move during a call(doesnt matter in which direction).
But even if you turn this option off, ring will end if you put your device on a screen
Untick the above option and it should ring with out quiten ring tone. Works with my Desire.
The OP is right: the phone still goes silent when turned face down even with that box unticked.

Call reject/Answer by Voice Command

I have messed around with the phone and tried everything.. I have come to realize that the voice call rejection and answer works only when the phone is on ring mode, and no vibrate feature is on.
The problem is I keep my phone on vibrate pretty much all the time, is there a tweak or mod that could be made to make the feature work also on vibrate mode?

Any ideas about what we could do about getting it to work while on vibrate?

Maybe edit whatever apk controls the Incoming call screen.
Incoming call probably calls event listeners that check for volume state before initializing voice support.

Even if u tried to edit Pk files just to get it working its no guarantee that it would work since u got 2 things going on.
1: The ring tones which is trying to pass through the the unit so that u can hear.
2: the unit then vibrates but since the sensor doesn't have time to react all it hears is the constant bbbzzzzzz or bzzz bzzz bzz depending on how u have it, it's not gonna recognize ure voice or any sound going through since all it hears is the bzzzzzzz coming from ure phone, only sY is to turn this off.

Could you explain exactly what you mean by bullet 1?
Alternatively, if you change the vibration patter to something with long gaps and short vibration intervals, the sensor wouldnt have to fight to separate your voice from the vibration.
i havent even tried it yet

ment to say that while the sound is trying to pass throught both ringtone and vibration would effect the sensor from being able to detect ure voice even if u have multiple vibrations or just 1 long vibration.........since the vibration is really strong it shakes the phone so it also bounces back and forth of the ground
u could try it by decreasing the vibration to a minimal vibration and try to see if it works, let me know how that works, could change my mind on this.....

Vibrate mode not working

I feel like I have to be missing something dumb here. I can't get the G3 to be in vibrate mode and vibrate when I get a text or call. When I get the call the screen just lights up to the caller screen. It doesn't even vibrate when I have the ringer on. Under settings -> Sound, I have Silent mode set to vibrate then the Ringtone with vibration checkbox goes grey. This is what my sound settings are in the screenshot. What am I missing?

your not the only one i have missed quiet a few calls because this phone isnt vibrating
Good to know you are also having this issue. I just got it on Friday and I haven't dropped it. The phone won't even vibrate when I switch it into vibrate mode like my S3 did. It vibrates when I turn the phone off so I know that it can vibrate. It has to be a setting that we are missing. I am trying to stay away from a hard reset of the phone.
Settings-sound and click Vibrate. Turn strength up. I found it rather weak. So changed Vibration type to a loner ong and boosted strength some. Helps
idk. no problems on my side

It's not that. I already had that set to Vibrate. I get vibration from other apps like Facebook when I have a notification. I checked the default texting app and it's set to vibrate always.

Ok, now it seems to be working. I restarted the phone and it went through the optimizing apps screen. I wonder if it was having issues still after I tried switching to ART runtime. I switched it back to Dalvik yesterday but it maybe didn't optimize everything.
I've been having the same issue. It fixes itself whenever I restart but keeps coming back. I have the at&t version in case that makes a difference.

Having same issue, on rooted Verizon. That option stays grayed out...anyone find the answer to this?
I just updated to lollipop and I'm having the same issue. I can't get my texts or emails to vibrate at all. Picture in the first post is accurate for me. Vibrate mode active and notification and touch sliders are greyed out.

yup, that's the fix I also found for this problem. Restarting fixes it.
A new official update popped up two days ago and the vibration stopped working after it was installed. I tried rebooting, I even did factory reset, but still not working. Help?

Mute & Unmute

OK, if the watch doesn't make a beep, what's up with the mute/unmute option from the pull down?
That's my WTF moment with the 360.
Also, why it's the vibration so light? I missed so many notifications.
It mutes the vibration and stops cards from showing up.
Mute just means you won't get notifications from your phone. Yeah I was confused at first too.

Mute Sounds without Vibration?

Is there any way to mute all notification sounds without vibration? When I'm working I don't want my phone to make any sounds or vibrate while it's laying on my wooden desk. I'm coming from Samsung Galaxy devices and there was always an option to mute ALL notifications, sound and vibration. Am I missing something? Shouldn't have to turn on Do Not Disturb for something so simple that I'm sure many people use.

Lower the volume all the way down then push down again further and the phone will go into a full silent mode except alarms.

Why "shouldn't have to turn on DND"? What you want is exactly what DND does. No sounds and no vibration. You can even choose which notification can go through with priority mode

Yeah I agree. I use the DND toggle all the time right before I go into work. You don't even have to leave the lockscreen.

They can if you turn off the option which blocks it. Look at the settings under "Block visual disturbances".

I don't understand why turning the volume all the down with the rocker turns on vibrate instead of just turning down the volume. DND presents you with a myriad of options that make muting your phone take more steps than necessary. My S7 had DND and I never had to use it, guess why? Turning down the volume actually turned down the volume and nothing else. I could even mute the phone with the screen off or locked so no I shouldn't have to use a "feature" that takes more button presses than necessary.

That's cool you could do that with the screen off. There's a couple simple ways to do DND from the lockscreen. One is double tapping the screen (or press power) and volume down all the way until you get to vibrate then press volume down again to mute which then turns DND on. You can also get out of DND with the volume button too. Someone mentioned this already. Or you can double tap to wake (Or press power), slide down the the notification menu, tap DND toggle. Both are not many steps really and no unlocking necessary.
