I've been told that this variant is "hard-locked" and it's impossible for it to be rooted without unlocking the bootloader. I was also told this with my sm-g900v and it finally got unlocked. So I was wondering if any developers have this phone and know how to switch "CSC" codes similar to how the "SM-G900V" was officially unlocked by switching it to a developer phone.
Can someone tell me if the magisk root method works on the A505U1 stock firmware? I don't want to risk bricking.
I have the same a50 Sm-A505u1, I dont know if they have oem unlock implemented into the developer options yet, hopefully within a few more updates they will add the option to unlock the bootloader.

Switching the CSC won't add the toggle because the model number is encrypted into the phone's processor.
Yeah you would probably have to do individual work on each locked variant depending on firmware. Even then it's a longshot to get any exploits to actually work, seeing how this phone doesn't have a removable battery I can only imagine the hard bricking risk. On my S5 I always backed up all my partitions on an SD card but I had root on that phone to do that.

I know it's a little off topic but the system ui demo mode also doesn't work nor does the hidden menu. Hopefully a few updates will add more functionality to the phone.

I contacted samsung and they are saying that this phone cannot be oem unlocked, it sucks but I think after they are about to stop updating it they might add the toggle in the developer options.
Is the bootloader already unlocked since I bought the phone factory unlocked from Bestbuy. Could I root it now?

Hey guys I am new here. I tried unlocking my s3 via the UMTS/Network lock method but it wont work since my phone is on Android Version 4.3
How can I use Odin to unlock my s3 for use with Telus? I don't care about tripping knox as it's a hand me down and doubt It has any warranty or anything left.
You will have no choice but to unlock the phone via unlock code. Using Odin is not going to allow you to downgrade and unlock.

Gotcha, looks like I'm gonna have to pay someone for an unlock code. What are some good reputable places?
I would look for someone on ebay with a good price and good feedback. That's what I did for my Note 3 and Motorola.
I used the following thread a couple of years ago and have been switching between Rogers and Telus sims without any issues. Phone was originally Telus locked. This worked on 4.1.1, not sure if it will work on later versions of Android?
---------- Post added at 05:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:13 PM ----------
PMd you the link. Let me know if it worked, I'm curious if it's still a valid method.
Using the 4.1.1 method on a phone with a 4.3 or newer bootloader may hard brick the phone.

Please use search before you start useless threads. You have found info about CF Auto Root from Chainfire. It will only work with an unlocked bootloader and the US Snapdragon versions of the S8 and S8+ have a locked bootloader. So it will not work. There are several thread about this and a post from Chainfire himself stating on US versions it will not work.
No, CF-Auto requires unlocked bootloader. The only reason files for devices that are locked down is because the site runs automated scripts to generate root files. So it'll work if and once the bootloader is unlocked. But for now, both will not work.
thanks for letting me know
Update on unlocking bootloader?
Wondering if anyone has any information on whether or not there has been any progress on unlocking the bootloader for the US versions of the g955u <snapdragon> yet? I know that the new unlocked versions of the phones came out recently and was wondering if anyone had a crack yet?

I believe those are carrier unlocked; NOT Boot Loader Unlocked.
I had a feeling I was buying the wrong version of S8 plus, is that why OEM is no longer in developer options?

CF-auto or Odin?
So I've been waiting as impatiently as everyone else for the US998 to show up on LG's bootloader unlock list. It still isn't there.... BUT: if you add it there, IT WORKS!
Go to the LG Unlock Bootloader page ( hxxp://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev ), make your account, and get to the unlock form. Enter your IMEI and Device ID as directed.
In Chrome, right-click and inspect the drop down for Phone. I changed LGUS997 to LGUS998 (see picture: hxxps://imgur.com/a/vTJWx ).
Confirm, Agree, then check your email!
REMINDER THAT UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER WIPES YOUR DATA AND VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY
No idea if this would work for any of the carrier models... I kind of doubt it. I'd bet the US998 already has the allowed IMEI range in their backend, but somebody should give it a shot!
Long overdue edit (sorry!): This only works for the open market US998, not the US Cellular US998, the open market V30+, or any other carrier models . Be careful buying used! Also, the hxxps links are because I haven't posted enough to be able to post external links; replace hxxps with https.
Personally i have a H930, but this is great news
Hopefully will attract more devs to this wondeful device
Finally! Just got my key, will give it a go tomorrow. Thank you!

That is an interesting point.
I told my friend who is a coder about this and he said that the text shouldn't actually matter, at least normally.
So it's possible as long as you select LGUS997 it'll work ( or possibly any other option ).
About ready to unlock mine, and as with previous rooted phones I never had any DRM issues. Wondering if streaming apps like Spotify will still work properly?
2. Unlocking the phone will disable certain functions of your phone.
When unlocking the bootloader, the DRM protection of your phone will become untrusted.
Some applications which require DRM protection may not work anymore or block certain functions due to this untrusted DRM.
Common examples are applications which offer download/streaming of paid multimedia content like music and movies.

I take it that the system returned a "model not supported blah blah blah" message?
Maybe that's why they haven't announced unlock availability; they just haven't gotten around to whitelisting the V30+, and are planning to do them both at once. You know, because editing the unlock info page is hard, wouldn't want to do it twice

Before someone lights up their flamethrower, note that LG has models with bootloader unlock available but ADB commands not supported. So just because e.g. TWRP has been installed on some V30 model (H930?) does not mean it will work on US998 open market version.

I was just recently messing around with my CID and MID. Can you get to "setting", "security". About 3/4 way down is "SIM Lock" settings. If it's locked it probably has a PIN or password. You should be able to toggle it off and on.

Actually, I don't have such setting. The phone was from T-mobile. I usually just use the app to unlock. This time, it did not work. I guess the original owner may still own money to tmobile.
Right now, I already have a custom ROM and can't go back to the original ROM even I made a backup with TWRP.

Yea you might be right about the previous owner owing in it. Or if they don't, maybe it hasn't been unlocked from T-Mobile. When I paid off my M8 I had to call T-Mobile and can get an unlocked code from them after they confirmed it was paid in full and that I had an active account for at least 6 months.

The only think I don't understand is (sorry, not android developer ), that why we can't unlock sim for a s-off htc 10. Yes, I am sure. Every ROM works, but not all with all carrier. I had the same thought as yours and turned out that it did not work.
I installed several different ROM and tried the original stock ROM. It only recognize the tmboile.
The funny thing is that, I tried Lineage 15.1 and unlock the sim with the code. It worked. However, when I tried 14.1, it does not recognize my SIM again. 15.1 is not good for my phone. The "home" button did not work

You're right in assuming what S-Off does. But I believe the SIM card is controlled by the carrier. So when they "lock" a SIM card it is done on the carrier's level where they use the IMEI number of the device to toggle an activation lock so that that IMEI number can't get activated on any network. When they give you the unlock code, they essentially release the IMEI number of that device from any activation restrictions. Being S-Off will give you the ability to "unlock" the SIM so that you can use other carrier's SIM cards, ie, AT&T device on T-MOBILE's network, etc.
I may be corrected if any of the above is incorrect. But I'm pretty sure this is correct for the most part.

However, I disagree some part of the above. The SIM unlock is NOT done at the carrier's level. As far as I understand. The SIM lock is a restriction on the somewhere on the phone. I have gone through many other posts in the forum. For example, for M9, you can just overwrite some bytes on the phone to archive that. Unfortunately, no such thing for HTC 10.
The unlock activity is only on the phone to allow it to use other SIM. There is no communication to the carrier.
Thanks,
Steven

Usually ebay is a good place to check
I'm pretty sure I know this answer, but it never hurts to double-check one's self...
I have a xt1922-9, with Cricket service (bought it 2nd-hand so not positive if it is locked Cricket, or if he bought it an unlocked but just also used Cricket as his service provider). I know that always before I have been told that there is absolutely nothing possible to do with ANY cricket phone (such as rooting, flashing custom rom or anything else), due to totally impossible to unlock the bootloader, which is required for any/everything...
Is that still the case, or has a miracle been found, that makes it possible for me to be able to use the info/guides posted in this g6 play's forum to at least even root my xt1922-9 or be able to get Pie on it, or ANYTHING???
View attachment 4917599View attachment 4917601View attachment 4917603
ALSO, since my phone is still on Oreo, is there at least any hope of mine ever getting Pie?
I thought I'd touch base by doing a quick skim through the forum and then do a search for any recent discussion about it. Since I found nearly nothing even mentioned recently AT ALL about att/cricket, I figure that is a bad sign of no miracles on it. However if I just assumed & didnt ask, I would feel like a fool if there has been a breakthrough lol.
Thanks alot for your assistance!

Easiest way to find sim lock status is insert a non ATT/cricket sim.
You likely cannot root, that requires an unlocked bootloader.

The auto software update usually gets disabled if the bootloader got unlocked, so no more OTA updates. If you're not experienced in flashing roms, you can try the Lenovo MOTO Smart Assistant. That utility sometimes has the newest firmwares available.

Okay, according to motorola's bootloader unlocking site (after I entered my string etc), NO mine isnt unlockable for some reason.
Since from what I understand on the links sd_shadow, fcohen, & GuestSupreme all posted, I must have the bootloader unlocked before I can update it via any of the methods...
Is my understanding correct (basically it's impossible for me to get the upgrade since my bootloader shows no unlock & everything has unlockable bootloader as a pre-requisite)???

Okay, according to motorola's bootloader unlocking site (after I entered my string etc), NO mine isnt unlockable for some reason.
Since from what I understand on the links sd_shadow, fcohen, & GuestSupreme all posted, I must have the bootloader unlocked before I can update it via any of the methods...
Is my understanding correct (basically it's impossible for me to get the upgrade since my bootloader shows no unlock & everything has unlockable bootloader as a pre-requisite)???

Did you try lmsa?
There's a post link in my

It will say if there's an update available.
SOLVED!
I finally have the android pie upgrade! The thread "Pie??" in this forum worked even though my bootloader showed unable to unlock via motorola. Thank you!!!
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW- Don't fret too much because it is much easier than it seems. Thank you!

Sometimes the updater app just doesn't work.
I would try LMSA's Flash Rescue or flash update option.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/update-moto-lenovo-moto-smart-assistant-t3951714
It's the best option for devices with a locked bootloader.
Looks like both ATT and cricket have Android 9 available

If LMSA doesn't work you could try RSD lite if you have a Windows 7 pc

Your device says it's on ATT software channel, but there's also a cricket software channel, so I'm not sure.
You could also try
Code:
fastboot getvar all
I believe LMSA will give you an Android 9 update option (moto blur 29.128.63.xxx)
And it select the correct channel.
