I'm pretty sure I know this answer, but it never hurts to double-check one's self...
I have a xt1922-9, with Cricket service (bought it 2nd-hand so not positive if it is locked Cricket, or if he bought it an unlocked but just also used Cricket as his service provider). I know that always before I have been told that there is absolutely nothing possible to do with ANY cricket phone (such as rooting, flashing custom rom or anything else), due to totally impossible to unlock the bootloader, which is required for any/everything...
Is that still the case, or has a miracle been found, that makes it possible for me to be able to use the info/guides posted in this g6 play's forum to at least even root my xt1922-9 or be able to get Pie on it, or ANYTHING???
View attachment 4917599View attachment 4917601View attachment 4917603
ALSO, since my phone is still on Oreo, is there at least any hope of mine ever getting Pie?
I thought I'd touch base by doing a quick skim through the forum and then do a search for any recent discussion about it. Since I found nearly nothing even mentioned recently AT ALL about att/cricket, I figure that is a bad sign of no miracles on it. However if I just assumed & didnt ask, I would feel like a fool if there has been a breakthrough lol.
Thanks alot for your assistance!
Apparently no one will answer HOWEVER IF someone is kind enough to respond, How do I find out if my phone was bought originally unlocked OR if it's always been carrier locked??

Easiest way to find sim lock status is insert a non ATT/cricket sim.
You likely cannot root, that requires an unlocked bootloader.
But you can try

The xt1922-9 should be a moto retail unlocked phone. You should be able to flash any of the roms at https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/jeter/official/RETUS/
The auto software update usually gets disabled if the bootloader got unlocked, so no more OTA updates. If you're not experienced in flashing roms, you can try the Lenovo MOTO Smart Assistant. That utility sometimes has the newest firmwares available.
yes I confirm that Android 9.0 is working on Cricket g6 forge with fastboot, with the link above Jetter, simply done with RSD Lite
grrrrrrrrr
Okay, according to motorola's bootloader unlocking site (after I entered my string etc), NO mine isnt unlockable for some reason.
Since from what I understand on the links sd_shadow, fcohen, & GuestSupreme all posted, I must have the bootloader unlocked before I can update it via any of the methods...
Is my understanding correct (basically it's impossible for me to get the upgrade since my bootloader shows no unlock & everything has unlockable bootloader as a pre-requisite)???

Did you try lmsa?
There's a post link in my
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/guide-flashing-motorola-firmware-t4042039
It will say if there's an update available.
SOLVED!
I finally have the android pie upgrade! The thread "Pie??" in this forum worked even though my bootloader showed unable to unlock via motorola. Thank you!!!
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW- Don't fret too much because it is much easier than it seems. Thank you!

Sometimes the updater app just doesn't work.
I would try LMSA's Flash Rescue or flash update option.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/update-moto-lenovo-moto-smart-assistant-t3951714
It's the best option for devices with a locked bootloader.
Looks like both ATT and cricket have Android 9 available
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/jeter
If LMSA doesn't work you could try RSD lite if you have a Windows 7 pc
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/guide-flashing-motorola-firmware-t4042039
Your device says it's on ATT software channel, but there's also a cricket software channel, so I'm not sure.
You could also try
Code:
fastboot getvar all
I believe LMSA will give you an Android 9 update option (moto blur 29.128.63.xxx)
And it select the correct channel.

Now that the Verizon version is unlocked, is it possible to install the stock Google firmware onto the Verizon model (and subsequently get regular updates from Google, not Verizon)?
The updates still come from Google, regardless of where you bought the device. In fact, if you had a google store version of the pixel witha verizon sim, you would still get the X build as it has a different radio tuned for VZW.
Flashed the google images after unlocking the bootloader and after a few min the verizon build ended up being an update. So far, there is not way to avoid the verizon build unless you are rooted ...

The only difference between the V and X builds are the radio.
So they must identify by Imei, which is which.

In the bootloader thread there was speculation about how they tie each image for which phone. Some speculated about phones being recognized for their IMEI, SIM,CID, etc etc etc but nothing conclusive. The other day I met a person who got the phone from the google play store and have verizon but his latest build remains NDE63V, not NDE63X. Quiet honestly, I'm skeptical as of which is really the difference.

That doesn't surprise me, It took a week before I got the update. Its a staged rollout, just like any other OTA is.
The question is mine too, I am going to buy a verizon one that the bootloader can not unlock, now we know uts possible to unlockit, I would like to know if possible to flash google play stock on verizon?

If you can unlock it, yes. But if it comes with 7.1.1 or you let it update to 7.1.1 before you unlock it you are done. It will be locked without a way to unlock it.

Verizon phones:
If it has 7.1.0 then you can unlock the bootloader.
If it has 7.1.1 then you cannot unlock the bootloader.
If you cannot unlock the bootloader then you cannot flash older firmware to circumvent the bootloader lock.
If you want to flash ROM's then do not buy a Verizon phone with 7.1.1 already on it.

Unlock your bootloader right away, before you take any 7.1.1 updates.
Then in the future before taking updates, research on XDA first to find out if it causes any problems.

If you update before you unlock you will not be able to unlock. Don't matter where you get it from. VZ and Google's update are the same. The google update our full flash to 7.1.1 will lock you. Probably for good.
So if I unlock my bootloader, in 7.1.0 It'll maintain the bootloader unlock atleast in 7.1.1? It'll still allow OTA updates? On the fence on what I want to do with the Pixel but would rather dePixel8 it while i have the chance.

My PixelXL came with NDE63P. I used depixel8 to unlock it. After that, it has taken 7.1-NDE63V, 7.1-NDE63X, and 7.11-NMF26O updates through Verizon without relocking the bootloader. I have messed up the phone several times and easily flashed the factory image to fix up each time. Instructions here in the xda PixelXL Forum are helpful. Custom recovery, kernel, or root will stop OTAs from installing.
Whatever you do, be sure to unlock it before taking updates.
Is it possible to overwrite the Verizon/EE bootloader once it is unlocked? So that the bootloader can be relocked and unlocked at will post updating to 7.1.1?

Great, thanks for clearing that up. Seems best to stay clear of Verizon/EE models if I want to be able to unlock and lock at will.
---------- Post added at 12:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:46 PM ----------
Having said that, having to wipe the user data with each unlock makes it pointless relocking it as I want it mainly for app data backups.

Don't relock, we have seen lots of people brick phones that way. If you are trying to pass safteynet then flash a kernel that bypasses it.
hi, so I was trying to unlock the bootloader before attempting to use an AOSP pie rom using this guide on the official LG site http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
Anyway when I come to step 9, I type "adb reboot bootloader" and the phone reboots in fastboot mode. Then when I type "fastboot oem device-id" the phone freezes and I have to press the power button to restart it, meanwhile in the powershell command page it says
Code:
C:\Users\chahi\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools>fastboot oem device-id
FAILED (Write to device failed (No such file or directory))
fastboot: error: Command failed
I checked my drivers and everything seems to work perfectly fine. I am at my fifth attempt and I'm beginning to feel pretty desperate. If anyone encountered the same problem or could help me solve this I will be very thankful !
Thanks in advance.
NB : I'm on windows 10 and my phone is running the korean pie rom.

I cannot 100% say what the cause is with certainty (I have the Sprint version and I absolutely hate this piece of trash) but others have reported similar issues from actually having a different variant that was cross-flashed to the EM model and sold as EM when it's really a Sprint version (for example). What happens when you enter your IMEI number in LG site, does it return the EM variant or something else? That's where I would start (unless you have already done this and confirmed it's EM). Non EM versions lack the full ADB support so we can't unlock the bootloader. This is the same point I lockup as well but mine was not intended to be unlocked.

Thank you for the quick response !
Yes I actually typed my IMEI in the LG site and it gave me a gray OK so I guess I truly have the EM version ? (knowing that only the EM is supported idk) Are there other methods to make sure I have the EM version for sure ? Also worth noting that I bought the phone new from North Africa so it must be the european version and not a carrier one.
Thank you !

Not that I'm aware of but if the LGdev site let you get the unlock code then I will assume it's real as they do validate it. Normally I would suggest to reach out to LG but that's a waste, they won't help. In fact they shutdown the dev recently because of unlock requests so they don't care about us so that won't help you. I'll do some research and see if there's any official way to help but hopefully others will chime in with the answers.

Good luck with LG, they most likely will do nothing to assist you. That's my biggest gripe with LG, they suck with customer care nor give 2 craps about us, the customers. My LGG7 sucks so bad, it's barely usable but they will not do anything to help me nor Sprint so I'm leaving both once my horrible lease is up. All I can say is to sign the bootloader petition and leave LG, it's the only way they will ever change and even then, they probably won't. They will soon be out of business just like Blackberry's downfall and for the same reasons. They don't listen to the customers and change, nor did RIM with activesync, now RIM is a mere fraction of what they used to be, LG mobile is next. I hear so many complaints about LG devices, not just LG mobile but the entire company. All the same type of complaints across all LG products, no customer support when the device stops working and they pass the buck every time, and locked bootloaders (for LG mobile).
There is no unofficial unlock yet, that's why I'm so unhappy with the piece of junk! If I could unlock and install my own flavor of AOSP then it would be an entirely different story and I would fix my own issues and have an awesome device. Instead the jackalope in charge of LG decided to keep the bootloaders locked with no support to unlock (except for EM) but even that barely works (your issue).
I don't know what else to say except LG SUCKS, LG is terrible. I so wish I hadn't let the Sprint rep bully me into this horrific device. I should have stood my ground and not accepted the deal which came with this expensive paperweight (LGG7).

Are you 100% sure this is not SIM unlocked using a modified octoplus (I have already gone down this path) so I bought my own octoplus. I am pretty sure all these "unlock" are merely SIM unlocks and not bootloader unlocks. I've investigated this pretty deep and it was only SIM unlocks not bootloader. As far as I'm aware, there is no hacks or mods to unlock the bootloaders for any LG G7 as of yet. eBay results are all SIM (which is simply using oct to apply the US-unkocked m ok model unlocking the SIM).
If you can find a REAL bootloader unlock method that works and unlocks my bootloader, I will PayPal you 20-30 bucks (I'm not joking). There is no method yet that anyone I know, knows of.

It's not sim unlock
It works by installing g710em bootloader and then flashing an unlock.bin .It's actual bootloader unlock. You can probably even do it yourself on a octopus box but I'm not sure what does it allow and not allow you to do.

Hey Piatch, i'm stuck on your same situation!
I have a new LMG710EM taken a month ago in a store, today with the Pie release (I'm in Italy) I found some time to unlock the bootloader, root, debrand (my G7 is TIM branded) and update to Pie.
I'm not new with LG, I come from G2, G5, G6 and now G7, never a problem (apart from the slowness in the updates I like them).
Well, just your situation, only the wording is a bit different, to me it says FAILED (Write to device failed (Too many links)) then the phone reboots and freezes in G7 logo and I have to press the power button to restart it, like yours.
I've tried everything, even reading online, different USB cables, different fastboot versions, but nothing worked.
Then I unbranded via lgup refurbish option to have a clean install and reinstalled all, thinking that maybe the new OS would solve but nothing, same message.
Can anyone help us?
It is the first time in several years that I have not found a solution.
Thank you in advance

I've tried everything, even reading online, different USB cables, different fastboot versions, but nothing worked.
Then I unbranded via lgup refurbish option to have a clean install and reinstalled all, thinking that maybe the new OS would solve but nothing, same message.
Can anyone help us?
It is the first time in several years that I have not found a solution.
Thank you in advance

Hi f0ster, I did not find any solution because I was lacking the time and tbh the skill to do it. I think we can't unlock the bootloader while under Pie ? Maybe if we roll back to Oreo, then we can unlock it and then update to Pie again ? I don't have the skills nor the confidence to safely flash Oreo on the G7 (I had bad experiences with bootlooping on the G3 and G4). Maybe you could try this way and see if it works out for you ?
I have one Moto Z2 Force (XT1789-05), bought from coolicool.com, I didn't know device came Unlocked Bootloader, Device rom had problem with many apps, I googled and found one topic in XDA developer to Install Stock Rom, I downloaded and Installed India Rom, it's worked somehow fine, but still had problem, I downloaded Verizon Rom, Android 8, after Installed Android 8 Verizon Rom, Locked device bootloader immediately, now device stuck at Welcome Wizard in Android 8, after select language I got this message: (Please wait, this may take a few minutes) this is proof video (http://ahmn.co/Upload/IMG_0161.MOV), after this issue, device already locked, I can't unlock, because need to go to the Developer Option in Setting, I stucked in Welcome Wizard, there isn't any bypass, So, I start to search in Google, XDA-Forum, Android Central and more, I created many threads, many requests, no one can't help me, I tried to reach google developer support to the tell to me how can I bypass Android 8 Welcome Wizard, there is must be a way, but I can't find it, now I can access to Android Recovery and Bootloader
1. if you help me to FORCE UNLOCK device without need Developer Option in setting my problem will solve
2. If you help me to Bypass Android Welcome Wizard, access setting and enable OEM Unlock
3. If you help me to update the device from Android 8 to Android 9 Verizon ROM via ADB Sideload or Update from SD card in Recovery mode
4. If you have any idea to how can I fix it
Extra Information: I bought Belkin and Uni USB-C to Ethernet Adaptor to help me bypass Android 8 Welcome Wizard, I bought WSKY WIFI Adaptor because device Wifi can't find any network (I found QR setup by tap several times in Language Selection), after this section need to download google device policy apk, my device can't find any Wifi Network and my Ethernet Adaptor can't help me either, So, I just remained with my phone, and I can't do anything,
Please, someone, help me
My Device SKU: XT1789-05
These coolicool phones always come with the wrong firmware install, the simple solution to that is to flash the correct firmware which is plain old RETAIL. Solved. That's for anyone who might have or end up with one of these phones.
As for your phone and since you're in the situation you are I'd flash VZW pie. That isn't the correct firmware for your phone, but you've got a locked BL with VZW on it now and nothing is working. Since your ultimate goal is to flash pie anyways, that's what I'd do. Maybe that will clean up your system enough to enable oem unlock. If you can get your BL unlocked, then you're half way there. Surely by now you've realized that you haven't got many if any options.

You need to elaborate. Is oem unlocking grey out? Are you signed into google services? Do you have wifi and/or radio?

You shouldn't flash firmware from other variants like att, etc. However, if you're able to flash those firmwares and not get any permission denied errors then your bootloader is unlocked, which is good. If you have NOT flashed a pie firmware, good, do NOT do it until everything is up and running and you're sorted. If you have, then you'll need to use pie firmware to fix it since once you flash a pie modem there is no going back to an oreo modem.
Run this command from bootloader/fastboot mode and post back your output.
PHP:
fastboot getvar all
You can omit your imei and your serial no. for privacy.
Hi guys,
I recently got a Moto Z2 Force XT1789-05 variant from Brazil which apparently tried to force an update to the pie but it must have been the wrong firmware so it lost imei and wifi. And it seems to relock the boot loader and have returned to oreo. Then I can not activate the OEM unlock, I even tried to use the internet from the PC via USB but still does not enable the option. I'm not sure what else to do does anyone know what to do ??? Help
Sorry my bad english

Its here
Since it's an -05 variant, with retbr, and has had pie flashed in some form I'd try flashing retbr pie firmware.
Firmware - https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmwar...ubsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
Flashall - https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4812854&d=1567089696
adb and fasboot files - https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4781024&d=1561215357
General guide on how to flash. Use the firmware and flashall I posted. - https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/how-to-return-to-stock-sprint-t3694783
It might not correct your problem, not sure how much of a mess is going on there, but this will be a good starting point. Just pay attention to what is going on and what (if any) errors you receive.

Nothing yet, I tried what you sent but as it has the bootloader locked I believe it is preventing.
Will I have to stay connected 7 days to enable OEM unlock?

No. You just need to sign into google on your phone to enable oem unlocking. Might try pairing bluetooth to get a connection if possible. Might try using the lenovo moto smart tool to see if it'll do a rescue on it. With a locked bootloader typically you can only flash official signed firmware that is either the version or newer. Again, depending on what kind of mess you've got there you might not get anything to flash.

I logged into my google account, but it doesn't enable OEM unlock yet, so the mess was big on it.

I'm in the same situation, I've tried everything, I've had several people helping me, I have the same model and variant and I can't recover at all.
As far as I know I have an att branded xt1789-06 factory unlocked on MetroPCS service
Completely stock, running Android 8..
I see some of these threads talking about the xt1789-06 phones and all this and that and it gives me hopes that I can do something with my phone now.
can anyone point me in the direction to find out the information on exact version numbers and release board or any kind of information like that.
as to if I can even progress on rooting or bootloader unlock.
Looking at this page... Idk what one I need exactly ??

I believe ATT was XT1789-04 just like TMO. Plus you can't unlock the bootloader on an ATT. -06 was Retail or European I think, not exactly sure there but I know it was global not US. Look by the charger port to verify model. You can also run the command
PHP:
fastboot getvar all
to see if your device is unlocked, and you can also look at the iswarrantyvoid line to see if it ever was (yes).
Don't flash anything until you can verify, save yourself a headache.

Code:
fastboot getvar all
If you are looking to flash firmware
You are looking for model number, software channel, and codename
You found the model number and software channel in setting.
You could verify codename with Devcheck
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.devcheck
I've posted some more info on my

If you are looking to unlock the bootloader
There is really only one way to know

They will either give you a unlock code or not.
