[US998] Bootloader Unlock Achieved!!! - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

So I've been waiting as impatiently as everyone else for the US998 to show up on LG's bootloader unlock list. It still isn't there.... BUT: if you add it there, IT WORKS!
Go to the LG Unlock Bootloader page ( hxxp://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev ), make your account, and get to the unlock form. Enter your IMEI and Device ID as directed.
In Chrome, right-click and inspect the drop down for Phone. I changed LGUS997 to LGUS998 (see picture: hxxps://imgur.com/a/vTJWx ).
Confirm, Agree, then check your email!
REMINDER THAT UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER WIPES YOUR DATA AND VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY
No idea if this would work for any of the carrier models... I kind of doubt it. I'd bet the US998 already has the allowed IMEI range in their backend, but somebody should give it a shot!
Long overdue edit (sorry!): This only works for the open market US998, not the US Cellular US998, the open market V30+, or any other carrier models . Be careful buying used! Also, the hxxps links are because I haven't posted enough to be able to post external links; replace hxxps with https.

Personally i have a H930, but this is great news
Hopefully will attract more devs to this wondeful device

Finally! Just got my key, will give it a go tomorrow. Thank you!

Good news. can not wait to unlock it.

I tried the same trick in Firefox with my v30+ but it says it does not support unlocking the bootloader. I'll just send mine back. Enough of this BS, LG
---------- Post added at 02:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:48 AM ----------
I tried on both Firefox and Chrome using that trick, it says unfortunately it is not supported. If I say US998U for the v30+ instead, it says 9 more tried then it is locked.

I tried in both Firefox and Chrome, using US998 (it says it not supported). If I choose US998U, then it says I have 9 more times. I will be sending this back on Friday.

If bootloader unlocks, there is still the question of whether it will support ADB commands to enable TWRP and root.

So they did listen to all my tweets!
HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN ACTIVE AND WE DIDN'T KNOW? Did they basically wait six weeks after the V30 was released and didn't announce it?
LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

So it is easier to hack the system than the device, well done. Can't wait for my phone to arrive. Thanks!

Great news, now US devs can join on the development

Got the unlock code/bin for one of my V30, but LG says the V30+ is not (yet?) eligible.
Unlock .bin attached to this email.

So. Have anyone with US998 managed to flash TWRP yet?

Yeah. With all of the action leading up to this point, I'm expecting more of a reaction. Super curious to see how this pans out.

I've got the unlock code for one of my V30, but I'll mess with it this weekend. I'll also get the unlock code for the other V30. Hope the V30+ is allowed soon.

It seems that renaming the drop down item probably isn't necessary? Has anyone tried it by just selecting LGUS997 and using their IMEI and Device ID?

That is an interesting point.
I told my friend who is a coder about this and he said that the text shouldn't actually matter, at least normally.
So it's possible as long as you select LGUS997 it'll work ( or possibly any other option ).

About ready to unlock mine, and as with previous rooted phones I never had any DRM issues. Wondering if streaming apps like Spotify will still work properly?
2. Unlocking the phone will disable certain functions of your phone.
When unlocking the bootloader, the DRM protection of your phone will become untrusted.
Some applications which require DRM protection may not work anymore or block certain functions due to this untrusted DRM.
Common examples are applications which offer download/streaming of paid multimedia content like music and movies.

I take it that the system returned a "model not supported blah blah blah" message?
Maybe that's why they haven't announced unlock availability; they just haven't gotten around to whitelisting the V30+, and are planning to do them both at once. You know, because editing the unlock info page is hard, wouldn't want to do it twice

Right. Plus they gotta wait for six weeks to pass after release date for the V30+ or whatever.
Can't do it immediately on release. They have to AGE the phone properly, like fine wine.

Before someone lights up their flamethrower, note that LG has models with bootloader unlock available but ADB commands not supported. So just because e.g. TWRP has been installed on some V30 model (H930?) does not mean it will work on US998 open market version.

[LG V35 KDZ] [AT&T/Fi/Amazon] July Update Fi Variant

Not a lot happening with the V35 in the dev community, apparently, but the update came out today for my brand new Project Fi LG V35.
I've seen requests for the KDZ file in various threads, so here it is if anyone can use it.
KDZ File on AndroidFileHost (MD5: c3daf5a98064086d86a3d78b35b6ab9c)
So this file would be all that's needed other than a patched version of LGUp to change my At&t variant to the factory unlocked variant?
I just got notification for this update on AT&T

I'm currently interested in doing this as well with my ATT variant since I'm missing a few features as a T-mobile user, but I don't want to brick it if I mess up the flashing process.
Did anyone successfully flash the FI KDZ to an AT&T version or no?

I dont think anyone has tried and someone would need to make a patched version of LGup for the V35.
I love the V35, but I really don't think I can live without root. If there's anyone who may be thinking of starting any development on this, I'm more than happy to test things out on my Project Fi V35!

I wish we were given a dedicated forum. I feel like it would help. Requests just say use a tag. They made one for the V30S which is not only completely dead, but it's basically the V30. Our V35 is very different.
Totally agree with this post... Feels like v35 owners got the middle finger on this one

Agreed. I wish we had our own forum. I did find some info on developer options directly from LG. Sadly the V35 is not on the list of devices they will allow you to unlock.

Every Twitter rep says it won't be. If you look, the US V30 isn't actually there either. Only the European ones.
I really like the phone but I'm considering returning it because of LG's unwillingness to allow us to unlock the bootloader. It would be perfect if it were possible.

How long do I have to return to Fi, I wonder. I may have to pick up a P2XL or just wait for the 3. I like the Nexus line for developer options alone. I hope some one finds an exploit otherwise. Sucky. Why have the developer options and OEM unlock availability in the settings? LG, you anger me.

According to Fi's return policy, you have 15 days from date of receipt. I ended up returning mine since it seems like development here is bleak. I did see that @runningnak3d is turning his attention to the US T-Mobile LG G7 variant. Maybe he might turn his attention here too after? :crying:
Please correct me if the info I just looked up is wrong....
It looks like there are only two models of the V35 -- the Korean model, and one for AT&T?
EDIT: OK, so there is the carrier unlocked Fi version, the Korean version, and the AT&T version. The rest of this post still applies, but change any 2s to 3s
If that is the case, and neither has an unlockable bootloader, then I seriously doubt it will ever happen.
Most of the TZ is on the CPU starting with the SD845, but more importantly, the abl (what used to be aboot, also called the apps bootloader) is encrypted. It is no longer possible to decompile it to try and find any exploits.
Well, let's just say *I* don't have what it takes. Since it is decrypted when the phone boots, it would be possible to dump RAM while the phone boots .. but that is some expensive equipment.
On the V30, an exploit was found by someone just randomly flashing an unlock.bin from another model. It turns out that before they patched that exploit, that ANY unlock.bin would unlock the bootloader. However, this was on a model that LG allowed to be unlocked, and the RSA key was the same on all other models (except the H932), so they could just cross flash.
Let's just assume that was possible on the V35, next is getting TWRP onto the phone. I was able to find an exploit in laf for the H932 due to the fact that there are many models, and the carriers like to build their own firmware. So, you end up with not just holes that LG left in, but holes that the carriers themselves add because they don't know what the eff they are doing.
So, back to the V35....
With only 2 models, and neither of them having official bootloader unlock, and only two different versions of laf to work with, I don't see it happening.

I should clarify, unlocked as in carrier unlocked. That is the model I have. I'm not familiar with LG devices, but there isn't even a way to boot into the bootloader.
Yea, I hate to say that it is impossible (I did that for the H918, the H872 and then the H932 and ended up proving MYSELF wrong) but this isn't looking good.
With the V20, G6 and V30:
A - Had models that had officially unlockable bootloader support from LG
B - Could decompile aboot (on the V20 and G6 at least)
C - had LOTS of different versions of laf to work with.
I will download the KDZ and take a look though...

Is anyone having trouble unlocking the bootloader on the european version? (LMG710EM)

hi, so I was trying to unlock the bootloader before attempting to use an AOSP pie rom using this guide on the official LG site http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
Anyway when I come to step 9, I type "adb reboot bootloader" and the phone reboots in fastboot mode. Then when I type "fastboot oem device-id" the phone freezes and I have to press the power button to restart it, meanwhile in the powershell command page it says
Code:
C:\Users\chahi\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools>fastboot oem device-id
FAILED (Write to device failed (No such file or directory))
fastboot: error: Command failed
I checked my drivers and everything seems to work perfectly fine. I am at my fifth attempt and I'm beginning to feel pretty desperate. If anyone encountered the same problem or could help me solve this I will be very thankful !
Thanks in advance.
NB : I'm on windows 10 and my phone is running the korean pie rom.

I cannot 100% say what the cause is with certainty (I have the Sprint version and I absolutely hate this piece of trash) but others have reported similar issues from actually having a different variant that was cross-flashed to the EM model and sold as EM when it's really a Sprint version (for example). What happens when you enter your IMEI number in LG site, does it return the EM variant or something else? That's where I would start (unless you have already done this and confirmed it's EM). Non EM versions lack the full ADB support so we can't unlock the bootloader. This is the same point I lockup as well but mine was not intended to be unlocked.

Thank you for the quick response !
Yes I actually typed my IMEI in the LG site and it gave me a gray OK so I guess I truly have the EM version ? (knowing that only the EM is supported idk) Are there other methods to make sure I have the EM version for sure ? Also worth noting that I bought the phone new from North Africa so it must be the european version and not a carrier one.
Thank you !

Not that I'm aware of but if the LGdev site let you get the unlock code then I will assume it's real as they do validate it. Normally I would suggest to reach out to LG but that's a waste, they won't help. In fact they shutdown the dev recently because of unlock requests so they don't care about us so that won't help you. I'll do some research and see if there's any official way to help but hopefully others will chime in with the answers.

Good luck with LG, they most likely will do nothing to assist you. That's my biggest gripe with LG, they suck with customer care nor give 2 craps about us, the customers. My LGG7 sucks so bad, it's barely usable but they will not do anything to help me nor Sprint so I'm leaving both once my horrible lease is up. All I can say is to sign the bootloader petition and leave LG, it's the only way they will ever change and even then, they probably won't. They will soon be out of business just like Blackberry's downfall and for the same reasons. They don't listen to the customers and change, nor did RIM with activesync, now RIM is a mere fraction of what they used to be, LG mobile is next. I hear so many complaints about LG devices, not just LG mobile but the entire company. All the same type of complaints across all LG products, no customer support when the device stops working and they pass the buck every time, and locked bootloaders (for LG mobile).
There is no unofficial unlock yet, that's why I'm so unhappy with the piece of junk! If I could unlock and install my own flavor of AOSP then it would be an entirely different story and I would fix my own issues and have an awesome device. Instead the jackalope in charge of LG decided to keep the bootloaders locked with no support to unlock (except for EM) but even that barely works (your issue).
I don't know what else to say except LG SUCKS, LG is terrible. I so wish I hadn't let the Sprint rep bully me into this horrific device. I should have stood my ground and not accepted the deal which came with this expensive paperweight (LGG7).

Are you 100% sure this is not SIM unlocked using a modified octoplus (I have already gone down this path) so I bought my own octoplus. I am pretty sure all these "unlock" are merely SIM unlocks and not bootloader unlocks. I've investigated this pretty deep and it was only SIM unlocks not bootloader. As far as I'm aware, there is no hacks or mods to unlock the bootloaders for any LG G7 as of yet. eBay results are all SIM (which is simply using oct to apply the US-unkocked m ok model unlocking the SIM).
If you can find a REAL bootloader unlock method that works and unlocks my bootloader, I will PayPal you 20-30 bucks (I'm not joking). There is no method yet that anyone I know, knows of.

It's not sim unlock
It works by installing g710em bootloader and then flashing an unlock.bin .It's actual bootloader unlock. You can probably even do it yourself on a octopus box but I'm not sure what does it allow and not allow you to do.

Fantastic then I will investigate this new theory and if it works, reply to everyone. I've been waiting for this since day 1 with this terrible G7, I HATE this device and OS.

If does exist, I can't find it on eBay or the internet, only SIM unlocks. I will keep checking but I don't see anything to unlock the G7 bootloaders.

hi, so I was trying to unlock the bootloader before attempting to use an AOSP pie rom using this guide on the official LG site http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev

Hey Piatch, i'm stuck on your same situation!
I have a new LMG710EM taken a month ago in a store, today with the Pie release (I'm in Italy) I found some time to unlock the bootloader, root, debrand (my G7 is TIM branded) and update to Pie.
I'm not new with LG, I come from G2, G5, G6 and now G7, never a problem (apart from the slowness in the updates I like them).
Well, just your situation, only the wording is a bit different, to me it says FAILED (Write to device failed (Too many links)) then the phone reboots and freezes in G7 logo and I have to press the power button to restart it, like yours.
I've tried everything, even reading online, different USB cables, different fastboot versions, but nothing worked.
Then I unbranded via lgup refurbish option to have a clean install and reinstalled all, thinking that maybe the new OS would solve but nothing, same message.
Can anyone help us?
It is the first time in several years that I have not found a solution.
Thank you in advance

Hi f0ster, I did not find any solution because I was lacking the time and tbh the skill to do it. I think we can't unlock the bootloader while under Pie ? Maybe if we roll back to Oreo, then we can unlock it and then update to Pie again ? I don't have the skills nor the confidence to safely flash Oreo on the G7 (I had bad experiences with bootlooping on the G3 and G4). Maybe you could try this way and see if it works out for you ?

SM-A505U1

I've been told that this variant is "hard-locked" and it's impossible for it to be rooted without unlocking the bootloader. I was also told this with my sm-g900v and it finally got unlocked. So I was wondering if any developers have this phone and know how to switch "CSC" codes similar to how the "SM-G900V" was officially unlocked by switching it to a developer phone.
Can someone tell me if the magisk root method works on the A505U1 stock firmware? I don't want to risk bricking.
I have the same a50 Sm-A505u1, I dont know if they have oem unlock implemented into the developer options yet, hopefully within a few more updates they will add the option to unlock the bootloader.

Switching the CSC won't add the toggle because the model number is encrypted into the phone's processor.
Yeah you would probably have to do individual work on each locked variant depending on firmware. Even then it's a longshot to get any exploits to actually work, seeing how this phone doesn't have a removable battery I can only imagine the hard bricking risk. On my S5 I always backed up all my partitions on an SD card but I had root on that phone to do that.

I know it's a little off topic but the system ui demo mode also doesn't work nor does the hidden menu. Hopefully a few updates will add more functionality to the phone.

I contacted samsung and they are saying that this phone cannot be oem unlocked, it sucks but I think after they are about to stop updating it they might add the toggle in the developer options.
Is the bootloader already unlocked since I bought the phone factory unlocked from Bestbuy. Could I root it now?

SOLVED xt1922-9... Hoping for a miracle

I'm pretty sure I know this answer, but it never hurts to double-check one's self...
I have a xt1922-9, with Cricket service (bought it 2nd-hand so not positive if it is locked Cricket, or if he bought it an unlocked but just also used Cricket as his service provider). I know that always before I have been told that there is absolutely nothing possible to do with ANY cricket phone (such as rooting, flashing custom rom or anything else), due to totally impossible to unlock the bootloader, which is required for any/everything...
Is that still the case, or has a miracle been found, that makes it possible for me to be able to use the info/guides posted in this g6 play's forum to at least even root my xt1922-9 or be able to get Pie on it, or ANYTHING???
View attachment 4917599View attachment 4917601View attachment 4917603
ALSO, since my phone is still on Oreo, is there at least any hope of mine ever getting Pie?
I thought I'd touch base by doing a quick skim through the forum and then do a search for any recent discussion about it. Since I found nearly nothing even mentioned recently AT ALL about att/cricket, I figure that is a bad sign of no miracles on it. However if I just assumed & didnt ask, I would feel like a fool if there has been a breakthrough lol.
Thanks alot for your assistance!
Apparently no one will answer HOWEVER IF someone is kind enough to respond, How do I find out if my phone was bought originally unlocked OR if it's always been carrier locked??

Easiest way to find sim lock status is insert a non ATT/cricket sim.
You likely cannot root, that requires an unlocked bootloader.
But you can try

The xt1922-9 should be a moto retail unlocked phone. You should be able to flash any of the roms at https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/jeter/official/RETUS/
The auto software update usually gets disabled if the bootloader got unlocked, so no more OTA updates. If you're not experienced in flashing roms, you can try the Lenovo MOTO Smart Assistant. That utility sometimes has the newest firmwares available.
yes I confirm that Android 9.0 is working on Cricket g6 forge with fastboot, with the link above Jetter, simply done with RSD Lite
grrrrrrrrr
Okay, according to motorola's bootloader unlocking site (after I entered my string etc), NO mine isnt unlockable for some reason.
Since from what I understand on the links sd_shadow, fcohen, & GuestSupreme all posted, I must have the bootloader unlocked before I can update it via any of the methods...
Is my understanding correct (basically it's impossible for me to get the upgrade since my bootloader shows no unlock & everything has unlockable bootloader as a pre-requisite)???

There's a post link in my

SOLVED!
I finally have the android pie upgrade! The thread "Pie??" in this forum worked even though my bootloader showed unable to unlock via motorola. Thank you!!!
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW- Don't fret too much because it is much easier than it seems. Thank you!

Sometimes the updater app just doesn't work.
I would try LMSA's Flash Rescue or flash update option.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/update-moto-lenovo-moto-smart-assistant-t3951714
It's the best option for devices with a locked bootloader.
Looks like both ATT and cricket have Android 9 available
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/jeter
If LMSA doesn't work you could try RSD lite if you have a Windows 7 pc
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/guide-flashing-motorola-firmware-t4042039
Your device says it's on ATT software channel, but there's also a cricket software channel, so I'm not sure.
You could also try
Code:
fastboot getvar all
I believe LMSA will give you an Android 9 update option (moto blur 29.128.63.xxx)
And it select the correct channel.

8 Pro Amazon & Alexa built in

Purchased the Oneplus 8 Pro at a discount of £154.00 from Amazon UK. Arrived next day brand new from or fulfilled by Amazon. The 'phone is exactly as OnePlus store EXCEPT the bootloader is LOCKED. OEM unlock in developers options is greyed out. Android debugging - OK, Dev Ops - OK. Unable to unlock bootloader = no root. .
Tried the unbrick approach - still no unlocking.
There is no branding of any kind that I have noticed.
So it's back in the box, back to Amazon & wait for Black Friday.
Unless there is another way to unlock bootloader.
Hope this helps others making that money parting decision.
So, many thanks for the input from everyone.
I obviously had a senior moment. I skipped accessing 'tinternet trying to be a smug mister.
I have now got the oem unlock the right colour, the device is unlocked & as I write rooting the unit.
Thanks again for sharing the info. (Return cancelled)
Wow that's crazy, have you tried oxygen updater?
OnePlus phones really shouldn't be locked down like that, shocking from Amazon.
What model / variant is it?
You should be able to adb uninstall apps btw, just Google it.
Ordered something similar

UK/ europe model, IN11BA OOS 10.5.8 out of box, OOS 10.5.11 back in box.(MSN Tool)
The OEM unlock was greyed out from first start up. My usual routine with onePlus phones: Power on run through initial setup (no sim), enable adb debug (I missed the OEM button 1st time - I'm getting old), enable advanced reboot. Update drivers on PC, then unlock bootloader, root etc;
I agree that it is very unusual for a Oneplus phone to be unbranded and locked down. It may be the Alexa built in partnership the thing is I did not notice the Amazon app on the phone.
It would be great if there is a work round for this before it goes to the courier tomorrow.

MSN didn't make any changes.
Would using fastboot to flash another ROM still require an unlocked bootloader, also is the 'lock' for the OEM unlock before any other partitions.

It's assume the OP actually did that.
But good to know cheers.
