Call Recording for Both Ends Gone FOREVER?? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

My home destroyed by devastating fire February 8, 2015, and still isn't rebuilt because loan servicer, Ditech and now LoanCare, wrongly and unjustly withholding insurance loss proceeds. We're in a cockroach-infested apartment so cramped to teenage daughters sharing a bed.
Had excellent recordings of our conversations prior to Android 9 - T-Mobile forced the upgrade (or I dropped the ball on preventing it - so now call quality went downhill fast. Was using xCall and very pleased with results.
I know the locked bootloader issue hasn't gone away, so pure rooting (pretty sure) not possible.
Best alternatives??
Many thanks for any help you can offer!

High pitch squeal / squeek / fax tones during phone calls

Anybody running into this? I bought a GNex about 2 weeks ago and when on a call I get a high pitch squeal randomly. Loud... like pull the handset from my head loud. The person on the other end doesn't hear it. I called VZW several times and they say they haven't heard of this. My wife got the same phone when I did and it happens to her, too. My twin got the phone about a week later and his is fine. I took the phone in to VZW earlier this week and they mailed me a replacement... it does it also. I changed the ROM to the Open Kang ROM to see if it might be a software thing... still doing it. Very frustrating. It happens when sitting in my office on 4G or 3G, when driving, etc... no real rhyme or reason that I've been able to figure out. The squeal happens every 3-15 minutes without any real pattern. I don't see any notifications or anything that are new after the squeal takes place.
If anybody else is experiencing this can you post? If you fixed please advise! Thanks!!!

Yes, that happened to me when i was running stock at first too. Once i flashed AOKP 4.0.3 and franco's kernel, I haven't had that problem at all. It was REALLY annoying, sporadic, no rhyme or reason. It was also waaayyy louder than i thought the speaker could ever get ironicly enough. Also dont know if the new radios might have helped too, I flashed those separately because they aren't included on the 4.0.3 roms. Hope it helps =\
I called Verizon about this again today. I had enough trouble with one device that they sent me a second device. The second device does it too. Very frustrating. The device is also much slower than my old Incredible. I officially hate this device. Should be faster with a solid connection to 4G. I'm going to see what is necessary for VZW to somehow get me out of this device and into anything different. Hell, at this point I'm ok with an iPhone... anything but this.
I'm going to use this thread to track what I've been doing in the hopes that it can help others if they are dealing with VZW with this issue.
Dec/11 - bought the GNex new. Had the squealing problems and talked with the store I bought it from. They thought it was an app and suggested I make changes to my apps. I did that for a week or so and they finally exchanged the phone for new.
Jan/12 - new device arrives. Same trouble. I dropped the stock OS and went to the OKP OS. Same trouble. Figure I'll take notes for vzw and see if I can figure it out. What I found...
Seems to happen when talking with other mobile users, never to a land line. Later narrowed it down to only other vzw users, did not happen when talking to at&t users. Later narrowed it down that it only happens to other vzw users who are using the GNex device as well.
Called vzw last week after growing frustrated again. They had me do some troubleshooting on the device and re-provisioned my account. Same trouble. They sent me another new device. I put this device back to stock and relocked.
Feb/12 - 3rd device arrives. Stock OS, no apps installed. Had the same problem that same day. Called vzw the next morning and they had me put the device in safe mode so that they could determine if the problem was hardware or software. If you didn't know there was a safe mode now you know. Boot holding the down vol button until you're in the OS. Immediately had the same problem.
Called vzw back and demanded a different device. They told me they couldn't change the device because I was outside of 14 days. No kidding, I wouldn't be outside of 14 days if vzw hadn't been asking me to do all of this troubleshooting. I finally agree to pay full retail price if they credit my account for the past 3 months of troubleshooting. Nope. They make me upgrade eligible and I went a completely different direction to an iPhone hoping that this stupid squeal would be gone. I'll sell the GNex for close to retail on Craigslist at this point.
Mar/12 - iPhone is running for a day and I talk with my wife (GNex device). The squeal is there but MUCH SOFTER in volume. I will talk with my brother as I leave work tonight because I always have trouble with him on the phone. Hopefully this will help me know for sure.
What I think I'm finding is that it's not necessarily my GNex that had a problem... it's the reception from OTHER GNex users that is causing me the trouble. My wife has complained about the problem as well but at a much lesser frequency and only when on the phone with me. We don't talk on the phone that much. The curious piece is that my brother doesn't have the problem.
More to follow as I figure out for sure whether or not the iPhone has the same problem. If so then it's not my device, nevermind that I'm on my 4th device in 3 months. VZW has been entirely worthless through this process and has made me fight the entire way. Their customer service is horrible and the managers that I have been talking to should be fired. I can't believe they allow managers to talk with customers the way some of these guys do (especially this last Paul LaFranky dude (not sure about his last name)).
So I just came across this thread while doing my normal daily browsing here and find it interesting.
My nephew who has a SGSII here in east coast Canada on Bell txt'ed me earlier to ask if I ever get a "crazy squeal noise from your phone when you're trying to make/receive a call".
It's not all the time. He said it happened about 4 times in the past few months and it's only a land line. He doesn't make a lot of voice calls, mainly the 1 land line (work). When it happens, he hangs up and calls back and it's fine.
It may be completely unrelated to your issue. He's on stock gingerbread.
Anyway, thanks for posting the details and keeping record, i'll follow this for sure.
I have now had two calls today with the high pitch noise. At this point it is def not my device as I'm now on an iPhone. Good news is I can go back to the gnex. Bad news is that I'm all but certain that gnex devices are somehow SENDING these tones. With as unhelpful as vzw has been I'm beginning to think I may simply need to call those people less often... So annoying. I'll call vzw in the morning and see what they have to say. Ugh.
Mine does it too. It is my second one as my first stopped working on 3g so they replaced it. The first phone did it too. I just live with it.... I dont talk on phone much.
I get them as well with the GN, but I was also getting it with my thunderbolt from time to time.
My brother is upgrading to 4.0.4 today and will drop a new OS on his GNex. Once he does that I have asked him to call me to chat for a little bit. It would be great if that takes care of the problem! Fingers crossed. If that doesn't solve the problem I will call VZW with the additional info. If it does then I'll go back to the GNex and sell this new iPhone.
Update - called VZW to have my account updated with the latest notes. While on the phone the lady I spoke with acknowledged that there is a KNOWN ISSUE FOR THIS PROBLEM with Samsung devices. The devices that she said are affected are the Galaxy Nexus, the Charge and the Stratosphere. Samsung is supposedly working on an update that will address the problem. No ETA for that update.
I sure wish someone had told me about this sometime over the past 3 months of troubleshooting... it would have saved me the money for the iPhone as well as the hassle with vzw. Hopefully someone here will get some good out of this.
How odd. I have a VZW Nexus, but have not encountered this issue. I don't often make calls, but they sound fine when I do.
The problem is on the other end for the person you are talking to... they will hear a high pitch squeal from time to time. Mine would do it as often as every 10-15 seconds or so or could be as little as every half hour (or not at all depending on length of call).
I have talked with my brother a couple times today after he upgraded to 4.0.4 and haven't had the problem at all. I wonder if that update includes some work to fix this. ??

[Q] Sprint Galaxy Nexus Problems

I bought my SPH-L700 through wirefly.com b/c it was $50 cheaper than getting it directly through Sprint. It arrived last week, and I couldn't have been more excited.
Unfortunately I'm now extremely anxious, and am second guessing whether I even want this phone.
The audio is so low, and would vary from one app to the next, even one minute to the next. After browsing the forums and Google, I installed Volume+. The volume problem is better, but I'm not happy that I have to install a 3rd party app for something like this.
The TTS voice changes sporadically when I'm using Google Navigation. The voice sounds all nice and pretty most of the time, but then will switch to a basic computerized voice.
The battery life sucks - but I don't need to say anything more about that, we're all aware of that.
I've had really crappy experiences with bluetooth headsets. I talk on the phone often when I'm driving, so I really want a solid experience. I'm on my 3rd headset now, and all 3 have had popping, and audio fading in and out. My latest, a BlueAnt Q2, sounds great when streaming Pandora or listening to Google Navigation directions, but as soon as I get a call it sounds like crap. I just got off a call and the other party was griping about how bad I sounded to him too.
I'm 100% stock, unrooted at the moment. Is there a ROM that addresses these issues? Any other suggestions to improve this stuff? I really want to love this phone, but it's making it difficult...
TIA
Most custom ROMs will fix the audio issue for you. I'm not sure if the TTS problem is related to the audio volume or not, but I know that I have fewer issues understanding what the navigation is telling me to do now that the volume issue is fixed.
For battery life, what do you consider terrible? What is your average screen on time, and total time on a single charge? Good/bad signal strength? Have you looked to see if you're phone is entering deep sleep?
As for the bluetooth headset, I've got nothing there as I don't use one.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Luckily I'm at my desk most of the day while I'm at the office, and have my phone plugged into my computer - if I weren't, I wouldn't make it through a full day.
Oh and another thing I forgot to mention in my first post - when I use the camera, my phone gets REALLY hot. Just one or two pics, then I back out to the home screen, and turn off the screen - but the battery starts to go really fast at that point, unless I turn the phone off and back on.
Signal strength is usually around 3 bars during the day (that's another thing - I miss the 4G I had on my Epic. Wish we could get 4G on this bad boy sometimesoon...). I'm on wifi at home.
I'd never heard of Deep Sleep until I read your post. I just installed CPU Spy to see if it enters that state... and it says 46% Deep Sleep.
Heating up from taking pictures is not normal. You might want to get WF to replace it.

Wish I could help but don't have a Bluetooth headset.
For the phone getting hot when using the camera issue, do you have instant upload enabled on Google+? If not, do you have a similar auto-share service enabled? I had instant upload enabled for G+ initially, and when I started taking a bunch of pictures, my phone would get hot. Not because of the camera, but because the phone was uploading a bunch of pictures. All the radio usage caused the phone to get warm. Turned off instant upload, and haven't had the problem since.
Yes, I did have instant upload enabled. I've disabled it...
But the bluetooth issues are a big deal for me. I'm in the process of exchanging the phone for a new one through Wirefly. For the record, their "standard" exchange policy is to have you send your phone in, THEN they send you the new one. For a mere $400 deposit, they'll send you the new one up front, then refund the deposit when they receive the returned unit. This is SO much fun.

As a suggestion, should've gotten it through Sprint. They send you a replacement model, and if you don't ship back your old phone in like 2-3 weeks, they charge your account. Much easier, but I understand the frustration, don't blame the Gnex for that.
Anyways, try either SlimICS for a basic ICS rom, or AOKP. Haven't had a single problem with it on my GSM Nexus, or my gf with her Sprint Gnex. Hope this helps.
I got it through Wirefly b/c it was $50 cheaper. In the end, the deposit (for an "advance exchange") is refunded, so it's a moot point - just annoying. (I never blamed GNex for that part Just the battery life, audio levels, bluetooth audio quality, etc.)
Thanks for the ROM suggestions, I'm probably going to take the plunge and root the new phone when it gets here. I usually wait a year or so before rooting a new phone, but we'll see.

Oh as for the battery life, same thing I told her, turn connections off when you don't need them, such as Data, GPS, Bluetooth, etc. Lasts her like 2 days now on a single charge.

You're not alone - I actually just posted on this on another thread - as follows FYI;
I was expecting to find more people talking about issues with the 4.1.2 upgrade - does appear to be a minority (that I am unfortunately in)
Since upgrading, my (sim free) Note 2 has gone from being just about perfect in operation and behaviour to suffering;
- Daily episodes of freezing (often requiring a battery out to reset)
- 2 or 3 times a day it will randomly re-boot itself
- whilst typing on keyboard often suddenly goes very laggy
- battery life has *defnintely* worsened (probabbly by around 15% or so per days use - it does deep sleep though)
- calendar view/settings reset themselves every re-boot (annoying)
All the above annoy the cr4p out of me, as I am super picky with my phones/devices and I'm pretty dissappointed with this - given the phone was SO slick pre-update. I can't stand to have a buggy phone, so unless there's an update to cater for these issues very soon (.3?) it's S4 for me.
(I would roll back to .1 in a heartbeat, but looking at how to do it, it's tantamount to a rooting processs in it's 'complexity' - you guys may be adept at such things, but to me they just look like an uneccessary ball-ache - shame there can't be a kind of 'macro/apk/idiots program' that does it all for you! But there you go, I'll have to suffer for now and see which way to jump in a few weeks I guess).
My advice? DON'T upgrade to .2 - I can't see any discernable benefit in day to day use, but I can see a LOT of irritating downside.
Very pi55ed off
Glad its not just me, it's doing my head in
Can we not just back track to 4.1.1 via odin ?
Id do anything to go back to 4.1.1 as I can't cope with the daily lock ups and stuttering
Can anyone advise how to get back to 4.1.1 ?

Yes you can roll it back and the article I saw on how to do it did mention Odin - (I found a 'tutorial' on how to do that a couple of days ago). Thing is as I read on and on and on through it, it's just not something I want to touch (for now....) as it looks like there *may* be some potential risk.
Anything with 'odin' involved I tend to assume involves rooting and frankly looked too complex to me and beyond what I'm prepared to venture into - plus I really can't be bothered to root mine (partially for the same reason), as - given I can (and do) run a custom lancher, I just have no need.
I may have a rethink if nothing transpires in the form of a fix for this screw up....

well took my phone into my local Samsung repair centre and its now en route to Samsung as they tried 3 times to re flash (they say its deeper flash than via odin) and it failed so it looks like my motherboard has failed and needs a new motherboard which will of course generate a new imei also (pain as I have it registered for mobile phone insurance) ......
Im so glad I didn't try to repair myself !! my local repair centre is martin dawes in moss side Manchester superb set of chaps so much better than carphone warehouse where I thought id have to go
will hopefully have my phone back in a week fingers x
Blimey - that sounds pretty terminal - I guess if that is the case it has to be some sort of co-incidence surely? As opposed to being (entirely) attributable to the .2 upgrade.
I have no clue where my local Samsung specialist is, so I will struggle on in the meantime - however, the problems are getting steadily worse it seems....it's now re-booting itself about 5 or 6 times a day at random intervals!! :crying:

If your in the uk here is how to find out where your nearest location is
http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/location/supportServiceLocation.do?page=SERVICE.LOCATION
If you go on the Samsung website for the country your in , if your not in the uk go onto the Samsung website for the country your in and select support and they normally have a link to either ring them or locate your nearest service station
Good luck hopefully yours is just a software error - mine came as a complete shock that my motherboard was goosed
and it also means a new imei to
let us know how you go on

Tmobile Note 3 Cyanogenmod 12. CANT CALL 911!!

Hello everyone. I have a Note 3 with the most recent CM 12 nightly on it. Most recent Teamwin recovery. I have done a cache wipe/factory reset/pull battery ect. and there are no other mods on the phone.
The other day I tried to call 911 because some guy was road raging on a girl driving on the freeway. To my dismay the phone went into emergency call mode and then just hung at "dialing" forever, no ring or call connect was accomplished. I then hung up and the phone changed to "hanging up" status but never hung up the phantom call. It took a reboot to bring the phone back to normal operation. This happens every time 911 is called. This is a serious issue, I love CM otherwise but this is a deal breaker. I have searched high and low but cannot find a "fix" nor am I finding any other posts on people having the same issue. I'm assuming because people don't frequently call 911. Any ideas?
Maybe when it becomes "official" you'll be able to call the cop's.
Pp.
Yeah but you would figure this would be a priority over other fixes, such as issues with themes, in each nightly. I mean who's going to try CM 12 out for testing with this kind of calling problem?
Flash junkies don't think about these things until it's too late.
Maybe you should flash a "working" rom for now until cm12 becomes officially fixed.
I just run stock rooted on my phone, had my fill of bells and whistles during my captivate and S2 days. And the notion about battery life is bunk with CM, stock /debloated can perform just as well or better.
Pp.
Yeah I think I'm going to go that route as well. Too bad. I liked CM, but will probably not go back. It's too much of a hassle.
At least I brought the issue to light though
I found this out the hard way also. It just hangs on the emergency screen.
My family was attacked in our rental van in Puerto Rico. They broke out multiple windows and bent the sliding door in before we could speed away. I had to use another phone to get 911.
This still hasn't been fixed as of the 4-9-15 nightly. Pretty sad that they don't think this is an important feature.
For people wanting to test this themselves, call into your local dispatch center (preferable) or police department on their NON-EMERGENCY number and ask if you can make a test 911 call. If they are not busy they will usually let you. When you dial 911 tell them it is a test call and that you got permission from the dispatch center or police department to make the call. You may be fined if you don't get permission first.
CM12 has been my first experience with Cyanogenmod, what are the chances of this issue being corrected? Anyone with more experience than I, do you think the note 3 will see an official release? Not being able to make a 911 call in an emergency is very worrying.

What the heck did you do with your rental van that caused an attack on your family, and of all places, PR?

We were in Fajardo near the ferries. We had stopped along the side of the road next to the ocean to punch in directions on google maps. A thug passed us on a bike and then attacked a pedestrian behind our van on the sidewalk. The thug was choking to death the pedestrian and my mom who could see it from her vantage point in the back of the van yelled stop. The thug then started attacking us. Keep in mind this is in broad daylight around 3pm. Both my parents, who are over 65, and my wife were in the van. The police never responded to our location after calling 3 times. They claimed they couldn't find us but never called us back when they couldn't find us or told us they had given up searching. They were never coming. We finally had to ask a parking lot attendant we found to help us to the police station.
Later I found out that a pregnant american tourist was abducted, raped, and murdered near our location in 2009. She had her throat slashed. Needless to say we won't be back any time soon. lol.
The whole experience was surreal and felt like something out of a movie.
@mircury, that is crazy. In a case like that I would have used the van as a weapon and backup over the thug and his bicycle.
I used to live near Fajardo years ago in Cayo Santiago and saw my share of stupid people.
You never know.

Need help with bad call problems on Tmobile

I'm using the international version of the Mate 20X on Tmobile. It used to be great, once having a call for an hour in a basement where my wife's S9 couldn't make the call successfully.
However, in the last few months, the call quality has gotten worse in a very specific way. If I'm significantly inside a building (i.e., not near the windows) I can hear the person on the other side perfectly well, but they can't hear me at all. I have to run over to a window for them to start being able to hear me.
Around when this first happened, I had just moved where I was sitting in my office, so I assumed that area was particularly bad, but now I'm noticing it everywhere in buildings. I haven't been accumulating hard data to prove this, so maybe I was just extremely lucky in the first few months I had the phone (and my old office was right by a window) but I suspect things have gotten progressively worse.
Has anybody else experienced this, and maybe has some suggestions? With this, and not being able to use wifi calling, I'm not sure it makes sense for me to keep the phone, and I don't want to downgrade to a Note 10+.
