The quality of 1080p video is terrible, according to Eatmycomputer:
http://eatmycomputer.com/2011/11/20/eatmycomputer-take-the-galaxy-nexus-for-a-1080p-walk-round-town-london-town-that-is/
Maybe they got an early pre-relise device or is it always this bad? Can someone who has a Galaxy Nexus check it out?
watched it and about 10 others on 4 phones, they are all pretty crappy, even the 4s which seems to be the best...
it will never be production quality, but it is 1000x better than what i have got so far with the Desire so will be happy with that.
The quality isn't poor so much as the auto-exposure settings which is resulting in poor shots, this could be improved with software updates or by manually setting the exposure.
1080p video samples, raw and unedited:

It feels like taking the video under water,
and most of the sample video on Youtube are the same.
The video quality of this phone is indeed terrible
It's a cellphone. Don't be blinded by 1080p!!11
Jerky video no matter you slice it. It is what it is.

Just tried it and it doesn't seem that bad. At least it's continuous autofocus.
Just like with photos, resolution does not equal quality.
I dont see why everyone thinks its so bad, for a cell phone its pretty damn good for everyday use since you will pretty much carry it everywhere with you, much better camera then my thunderbolt had thats for sure.

Yes, I don't mind having 5MP before seeing the video sample.
The "under-water" like feature for video is not acceptable at all.
Hello, i bought a new Arc S. I found, that camera produces really low quality pictures. Is there any way to improve compression? I heard, that CM has a improved quality camera.
Thank you
Hello there
Unfortunately, there is currently no option available to improve the crappy quality of the camera output (compression).
Neither CM7 nor MIUI have any significant improvement in this area.
Are you sure you bought an arc because my arc takes good pics but it isn't an arc s but I find this hard to believe maybe your only taking pictures in the dark ?
Check your settings. Some phones have the camera set to poor quality from start.

I've bought an Xperia Arc S too about a month ago, but in my opinion the camera is fantastic! Maybe you have to set the camera in high quality. My camera was also standard at 2 MP 16:9. Now I'm using 6 MP 16:9 and the pictures are great, even in the dark.

Resolution is already set to 8Mpixels.
Which other settings could I check?

I'd recommend 6 MP, because it has a 16:9 instead of a 4:3 format.
Mine works awesome with 8MP...
Could you post a pic made by your cam?

I would also recommend you post the picture you have taken, x10 and arc are best known as their 8M camera, they should be able to take impressive picture compared to all the phone available back then and even able to compete among all phones on the market to date

I don't understand people who say Arc camera is crappy.
It's the best I've ever used in a mobile phone to date.
It can't be compared to my compact camera but it's a phone after all
and the results are more than decent for quick shots.
I don't say my arc is perfect but It's not really that bad in taking picture .
I'm ok with it ...
Using 6MP 16:9,
maybe Your lens is dirty ! clean it if it's needed.
arc is one of the best camera phones out there.if not the best.
Best camera 2011/2012, it won that price

The camera is great - no 2 opinions about that.
But after I downgraded from .62 to .42 with data&system wipe, because of the root, my phone started to take really low quality pics in low light - identical conditions, the same camera settings, but now pics appear with a great level of noise, nomatter how I adjust the settings. On videos also. This is my second time downgrading from 62, the first time without wipe - everything was OK, but now I think smthing must have gone wrong - lots of noise and heavy purple dots...
Any ideas how to fix that, cause I really miss the good low light pics - one of the reasons I bought it.

Maybe some users are expecting a miracle out of arc's camera (e.g. comparing the pictures against DSLRs' large sensor and lens)
Its great for casual shots and videos imo.
It even won an EISA award.
The camera is great, the software is horrible. MIUI and CM7 support to change the jpg compression, which the stock ROM doesn't. The jpg compression sadly ****s up everything and destroys the overall quality of the shots.
I find the quality of the arc's shots to be great, I don't understand why so many people complain. Yes the output file is pretty small for an 8MP resolution photo because its been compressed to ****, but I don't really notice this, even when plugging into my 42" TV it still looks great (until you start to zoom in) Take a range of shots, when shooting in darkness you will find a decent amount of noise but this is just the Exmor-r working wonders - without it, you'd find you'd just have a very dark picture.
Like many people already said, I'm totally happy with the picture's quality of my ARC, especially on 6MP 16:9. I love the colors, the tones, the clarity.. I'm sure that Sony (still SE for me ) will improve a little about JPEG compression in next ICS release..

Exactly. Only my old Nokia N95 comes close, but that also was a little sony carl zeiss optic if i recall correctly.
Arc S camera is crappy.
I know it, because i used a Samsung mobile for a long time before Arc S, to take more than 4K pcs photos, so i can compare them.
It makes a lot of color noise under low light conditions of scenes.
Even a bit better when the light is enough, but then it makes white burned photos
The objective is distorted (fish eye aka barell), and also makes color noises in its corners.
The video record of this mobile is blurred, shaked, in low light condition makes color noises too.
You have to use Noiseware, or similar software to remove unwanted color noises from photos which are dotted by Xperia Arc /s
I don't know what is the meaning of the Exmore r, because i can't find a reason, maybe it' s only a commercial thingy
Sorry for my bad english.
Has the quality of the camera improved with this update?
i've never had a photo quality issue with my nitro, regardless of roms, now refresh speed, diff story, it's improved but other than that the camera takes very high quality pictures as it always has across all roms i've used.

Thanks for the response.
Guys,
Just a quick q before I go and purchase this set. Is the G3 plauged with the same laggy low light video recording like the G2? That was the one thing that put me off the G2 big time coming from a Galaxy S4. I have been searching online to see a low light video test recording but I have been unable to find one. Everyone keeps talking about the camera, low light shots and laser focusing, but no one mentions how good or bad it is in low light video recording.
If you own one already, can you please shed some light? Or better yet, can you post a video somewhere? Something with a lot of moving subjects in very low light. This would really be useful to me. I know it does 4K too, but not entirely sure of how good that is either. A video of both would be great.
Furthermore, what is your take on this phone? How much better is it compared to the G2? I have had a G2 for 6 months now. The battery life is the best I have experienced but it gradually declines in strength or maybe its the amount of apps that I keep putting on it. I have done a full reset twice to fix the problem, but the battery is not as good as it was when I started using the phone. I wish there was an app that would give true usage of the battery, I dont trust the android battery app.
Anyways, lets focus on the most important questions, whats the video like in low light?
What I have heard the G3 is better in low light but still have the watercolor effect. The shutter speed is a bit lower than G2 some reviwer said. I'll think that low-light is an Achilles for most cameras with the same sensor, optics and pixel. This is what HTC wanted to fight with the 2um sensor and Apple with 1.5. Still it's more or less the same technology as before and the results should be in line with that. Better software and other ways of doing stuff like focus but the baseline sets the restriction.

The best part is it can all be edited and configured!
Will be ditching my S5 for the G3 ASAP! and I'm a heavy camera/video user.
I'd like to know the answer too..not just about low light, but in general, regarding the video.
Don't forget, we have a modded camera.apk now, thanks to Gishnu and Hendrickson.

It's low light 4K video of Hong Kong, hope this helps.
I'm curious about it too, and also if it can cope with very high volume recording, like videos of concerts and stuff...

That's better than any cell phone I've ever had!
Hey, Mix 2 is going on sale tomorrow in India and at the last moment I'm confused whether to buy it or not. The main concerns being camera performance, the sound quality and the display. Help me out please:
Display: After rooting is anyone able to get videos from youtube and other sites running full screen (i.e. 18:9)?
Also do you feel the absence of AMOLED screen of QHD?
Camera: I've heard from multiple sources that even though the camera sensor is same as in g6, it doesn't fair as well because of software drawbacks. Has anyone tried the google camera port to find any improvements in camera quality?
Sound: Is it decent enough for watching movies with another person?
The Screen is bright and has nice colors.
I do not notice that Landscape video is "letterboxed". Having com from phones with large top and bottom bezels, a little extra black space on the sides disappears.
Sound is a little low, but good quality from the speakers. No problems if you connect a BT speaker.

What about the camera? I heard picture quality isn't great because of software drawbacks. Is it so? Could you try the new google camera v5.1 for any improvements?

I do not notice any difference in the camera and with my former phone, a Nexus 6P. Supposedly the Google HDR+ camera port improves the quality, but I have not bothered yet.
