Is it normal that the system storage size is 27gb? Thnx
A/B partition 13.5 gb each.
Sounds about right. I have 7t Pro and mine says System is 29Gb.
Seems to be normal for the actual Oneplus 7T but is definitely not normal for Android 10 with A/B Partition. Other phones with similar OS like Pixel use around 10 GB.
My OnePlus 7, also with Android 10, had only 11GB. I am really wondering why the system size on the 7t is so much bigger.

Mine is 30gb system storage.
Same here.
For the future, when I actually need the space (bc some vendor, that makes awesome phones still refuses to add a simple combo microsd slot into the dual sim slot ),
do you guys know way to reduce that space to something more sensible ?
My good ol' XP was below 2GB and a freshly installed Ubuntu is under 5GB, so Android is never worth 30GB ...
I may accept double for the useful A/B stuff, but that's it.
(And yeah, the previous OP, including my OP6 had also more sensible System partition sizes)

Not possible. This is all thanks to Google's new partitioning scheme.
Think it's pretty ridiculous too...

I'm currently using a TP2 and I don't have enough RAM. Part of the reason and I know it's my fault is the customization of the phone with different toys and apps. This is my fault not the phone. So far the phone is working flawlessly.
What I have is over a gig and a half of a 2 gig memory card in my phone completely free. What I would like to do is use the spare memory as RAM, allowing the phone all the necessary space it needs.
If I keep going on this thought, would rebuilding the OS with the sd card as the primary install location work as well. This would give us gigs of space to install and gigs or RAM to work with esp if you have a 6 or 8 gig sd card.
Any thoughts?

You can't (as the end-user) use a storage card as Virtual RAM.
However, I believe that WinMo 6.5 does allow for virtual RAM to be used through the internal storage, but that will require you cooking the ROM yourself, etc. I've never messed around with that though, since the device I cooked for didn't have a native nk.exe. The TP2 does, however, so you can experiment away.
And remember, RAM = Program Memory, the space where currently running programs temporarily store their information for quick read access (Random Access Module).
Don't confuse it with Storage Space, which is where data is permanently stored. I think you understand the difference.
Thank you for the benefit of the doubt lol. Yes I do understand the difference thats why i was thinking if the SD memory could in essence be used to build the OS, because it is no different that the ROM in the sole exception that it's easier to remove.
But also in that same sense (and this might be a stretch) Vista is capable of using a removable memory stick as virtual ram to speed up your PC's functionality. If that is possible there, and you've got a 8 gig SD card in your phone, splitting it off for virtual RAM is hopefully possible.
Maybe even think of it this was. 9 gig SD card, almost like partitioning a hard drive. 3 setup for virtual RAM, 3 setup as storage, 3 setup for ROM access to load the OS.
Or am i thinking WAY to far outside the box of possibilities?

Eh, this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544445) will have all and enough information for you
Post 2 discusses Virtual Memory. Yea, I don't know what all that mumbo-jumbo means, since I never cooked for one of the newer, nk.exe WM6.5 compatible devices. But you'll find all the info on the new WM6.5 ROM's and cooking it, etc, on that thread. Enjoy the hefty reading!
ok just got a evo and thinking of making the switch officail from tmobile hd2 now on the hd2 android roms you can increase the data.img size to default 512 MB, 1 GB or in some cases 2 GB allowing you to install more apps on to your phone, I was wondering if the same thing was possible to do with the evo I like to have a lot of apps on my phone so if someone could point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.
11 views and not one answer seriously someone has to know the answer to this and yes i have searched and found nothing
Forums are kind of dead on the weekends.
I haven't seen anything like that for the evo since it's 512ram/512rom.
We have apps to sd - basically you can move your apps to the SD card, which is normally bigger than the ram/rom.

Obviously you can't increase it its the built in Rom space.
You can use apps to SD (a2sd) on some roms that partitions your card and puts apps on it.
yeah sorry about that and I just know on the HD2 android which I have been using on tmobile you can increase the data.img size up to 1 GB which allows you to install way more apps on your android

that is because on your HD2, the data.img file resides on the memory card, which is likely 8GB or larger, so that increase in size is possible. On the Evo, the data.img is stored on the internal ROM, which has a physical capacity of 512MB, so we have already reached the maximum capacity...

Those are the correct specs. They are the same that HTC, Sprint, and now Google have always advertised. 1 GB Rom and 512 MB Ram.
As to the OP, you may be able to change the partitions some, especially if you clean up the system partition, but it would require building a new ROM and flashing it. At least, that's the only way I know of to repartition your NAND.
Oh, and you probably won't recover way too much memory to the data partition. Probably no more than you free in system by removing some unnecessary built in apps like Quickoffice.

Hello, I was hoping current owners of the Pixel C could tell us potential buyers what the actual available storage is with this tablet if you go to storage, in the settings menu. I'm personally interested in the 32 GB model, but it doesn't hurt to get info on both sizes. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the replies, guys. Anyone with a 32GB wanna chime in?
Also, does anyone know why it issues SOO much storage? That's more than I was expecting, to be honest. It's a skin-free OS, after all. And there's no cell connectivity.
The usual reasons apply. 64gb is not the full 64gb as all figures are rounded down to zeroes. The zip/tgz file is compressed and expands when unpacked and all the boot and system files are put into place. This all needs a swap file capacity to work within and that to update system apps. My 64gb N6P has a similar available storage on initial boot.

I never thought much about reserved, needed empty space for those types of operations. But I think of my 2012 N7. 32GB, and 28GB are available. That was one of the perks of a Nexus compared to, say, a Samsung. I just feel like that isn't the case anymore.
Just got a new 7t and was surprised to find there is not much free storage space free due to the fact the system storage consumes 27gb !
So I only have around 92gb free after installing a few apps.

By default any storage will provide you 10% less i.e 13gb gone initially, the rest roughly 5-7 gb was used to be taken by system around the time of android 6, as time proceded and storage limitations reduced, some buffer is kept in the system storage if, just, incase for future proofness.

Hi thanks for the reply, I kind of understand that it’s just that I have a oneplus 5t as well with the latest Android 9 software, it also has 128gb capacity but i have more free space as the system storage is only 6gb. So that a huge difference between 6 and 27gb.
I realise it’s android 9 vs android 10, maybe it’s also 32bit vs 64bit, I’m not sure really.

I agree, I got the 256GB and also noticed that it takes up 28GB.
My previous OP6 had "only" 10GB System. (9.5GB to be precise). I still found that a bit too much but, meh, not worth the hassle.
But this time 28GB IS TOO MUCH.

Yeah OP has A/B Partitions, so you have like a backup system.
But the System OTA zip is 2.5 GB. So are there over 10 Copies of old Systems ?!
(And LOS Androids are around 400-800 MB).
So it's just crazy.
Not that I'm running out of storage soon, but that's just abou the principle.
I wont accept that some Android OS reserves 28GB for itself.
I can have dual boot Windows and Linux on my computer on that storage space ...
Has this ever been resolved / answered? I've recently got my 7t and was amazed that i'd lost 27GB before I'd started!
See here for more details. The reason is that the system_a and system_b do not really exist, they are contained within the super partition on the 7t. It's the maximum space to be allocated instead. The system_a partition is in fact only ~ 2.2 gb large.
Thai is why I went with the 256GB varient I need a bit more than 100gb if there's no SD functionality

It's still a pretty bad joke and it continues, though OP is not the only one.
It's due to Android's AB system and while I like it, it seems the way Google has implemented it, is pretty wasteful ...
https://www.pcworld.com/article/3561890/why-64gb-isnt-enough-space-for-android-phones-anymore.html
But like I said somewhere earlier too, it's even bigger than Windoze, and Windoze folder (including with all its drivers) is already bloated to 20GB ...
Also I mean, I hate Apple (esp. due to their anti repair policies, see Rossmann videos for Details) but at least they manage to keep their OS/System stuff under 7GB or so ...
And looking at reddit posts, not all variants? have that problem ... super weird.
On OP they discuss it for several pages, but no solution.
So is there really no way to just shrink that dumb partition to a more sensible size ?
I would like to join this thread. I have Oneplus 7T too with 30 gb system partition. Thats awful: how 128 Gb chopped by 30? I don't belive that there is no solution to get rid of partition ab thing. I don't need seamless updates. That blowes my mind.
No I don't think it's possible to get rid of it, it's probably part of the newer Androids anyway.

But if that's really the case, we should be able to resize it to some more sensible amount.
I just don't know the commands for that and can't really risk to brick my phone at the moment
Oneplus roms are bugged and their storage reporting is BS (use something like DiskUsage for a legit estimate of what the "partitions in your phone that can have data written to" are actually taking).
I just spent some hours trying to figure out why a base OP6 (still running 10.3.0, but I believe the point is still the same for other models) was having almost half of its disk filled by system... and it turns out that has nothing to do with the problem. In fact, I'm wondering if "system" is even actually measured, or if instead they aren't just calculating it by proxy of "used space we know something is occupying minus used space of the things we know".

Twenty-five frigging gigabytes were being taken by this gf_data folder, which seems to contain the logs of more or less every god damn phone unlock attempt since the last time the phone was wiped.
After some googling-fu, this folder seems to relate to the Goodix fingerprint sensors that Oneplus is using since at least 3 years.
I had hoped this heap of poo could be cleaned from the proprieties of some system app, but after searching all the firmware for strings, I have only found references to the disaster in \vendor\lib\ with drivers libgf_hal.so and libgf_ud_hal.so.
Good luck trying to fix that without root!

I get that the system uses a lot of storage, but nowhere near this.
If you download a firmware file it is about 4 to 5 GB.
There is no way this gets extracted to 44GB
In my opinion Samsung is cutting space to market their cloud service and or bigger devices

If that was the case then why offer 512 or an SDcard. I mean of course they want to sell more devices but thinking they are trying to use this to push cloud services seems a little far fetched.
If you haven't already decided to move to the cloud, I dont see how 44gb out of 512 will push you there. That is without even considering the SDcard.
