Best youtube downloader? (Q3 2019) - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I know there are several threads and old blog posts from previous years about the same topic but most of the apps are completely outdated and/or no longer working. I used to use Vidmate to download youtube videos but after I switched to Note 10+ for some reason is not working, I just no longer see the download button. I tried uninstalling and installing again, installing older versions, etc. and it's not working. So wanted to see if there is anything better in 2019 but all I can find is very old threads with the same tubemate, instube, snaptube, keepvid, videoder, vidmate, etc. that they all barely work.
What app do you use now to download YouTube videos? Another good alternative is adding ss on the youtube link between the dot and the "y" from youtube, the downloads are fast but very annoying copying each link, typing the ss, moving the cursor, etc.
Is there anything more functional now in 2019? Ideally I would love an app that would let you login and download playlist of several videos like 20 videos at a time. Any suggestions?

In all honesty, Tubemate still works fine... I'm using version 3.2.8...
Never had an issue with it...

A BIG BIG thank you to BrownBoy8872 who suggested Ymusic on reddit, that was EXACTLY what I was looking for:
Can login into my YouTube account
Can download full playlist and select resolution beforehand for all videos
Downloads are extremely fast just downloaded a playlists of 62 videos 720p in no time, everything downloads in seconds while other apps take minutes
Ads, but not adware like vidmate that keeps sending intrusive notifications if you don't force close/greenify it it after use
Excellent clean design, it even has the option to remove ads and support the developer which I just did
This really feels like an Android Pie/Android 10 app while all other apps to download videos feel like 1998 symbian apps lol

Thanks, any reason why this would be superior to Ytube? Seems decent but pretty limited without the donation package and I already got the donation package of Ytube but I'm extremely happy with Ytube it's what I've been looking for for years

yes I am able to download the videos but the app is not a video player you have to selecf the right format while downloading and then I use MX Player Pro to reproduce them

Alright the dev reached out to me. At the top right next to the sleep timer there is a video camera icon. You tap this to enable video. I thought this was for uploading video like it is on the YouTube and vanced apps. I left it grayed out and this is why i didnt see video, even after I downloaded the video only links.
Anyway all sorted out.

Why can't we watch youtube videos in the browser?!

If you go to a website with an embedded youtube video, the video won't show up unless you have flash lite turned on, which is awful quality.
Now afaik on other android phones, and indeed the iphone, if you go to a website with embedded youtube videos they show up in h.264 format, without the need for flash. Why has HTC disabled this? (or am I missing something)
Let me try this again in a while (on YouTube) but I have definitely watched flash vids within the browser many times (not on YouTube that I recall though). Poor quality at best, very grainy.
I haven't tried playing YouTube directly within the browser to date simply because I like it opening in the YouTube app better (I get the option to choose this).
-------------------------------------
- Sent via my HTC Desire -
you're missing something.
most phones get redirected to m.youtube.com
some sites are still using flash 9, which flashlite can play.
if a site is using flash 10, then you're ****ed because flash 10 is only in beta and only on 2.2
It's probably the Flash Lite plugin and the normal Youtube plugin (like on other Android phones) don't work well together and HTC disabled the normal plugin.
You probably have to find a way to remove Flash Lite completely.
Or maybe you wait until there's a Froyo ROM available within a few days/weeks or so and flash this, to get the full Flash 10.1, which should work much better than Flash Lite.

I'm assuming the normal plugin is where it redirects YouTube URLs to the YouTube app? Because that's the most frustrating part about this flaw!
Yes normal is the redirection to the Youtube app.
It sounds like even with flash 10.1 you can only get to watch the h.264 version if you load that flash video, then double tap on it to bring up the youtube player.
I would prefer it to load the h.264 video by default, because it's always going to perform better than flash, no matter how hard adobe tries.
YouTube embedded vids are an exception for me in so far as not playing embedded, many other site vids are doing so in decent quality (as relative as that is). Indeed, tricking the browser and YouTube to think it's a Desktop or iPhone accessing it is simple as well as showing the Desktop view, but then, you'll just see a black area where the vid would be with a message by shockwave that "this type of content is not supported". It won't play which is odd for me due to other site vids at higher quality that do play.

Doing such a tap provokes the browser to give me the option of either playing the vid using the YouTube app or using HTC Flash app.

Just use a different browser (Dolphin for example). The default browser (htc modified) does not allow it.
Suggestion:
Go to www.youtube.com/html5 and signup.
Make sure you're signed in on youtube.com on your mobile.
Try it now.

I could, but I don't really want to install another browser just to watch YouTube videos when I happen to come across one.
I think by loading skyfire is the only way you could view most videos in the way in which you say. But also the iphone cannot load videos from within its browser, only from its dedicated you tube player, and that has restrictions like nit being able to download to twitter or facebook etc. Some people are saying though that skyfire doesnt work fire them. Works a treat for me and plays 90 percent of videos that I stumble across.

You can on the iPhone, the videos show u exactly where thy are embedded, nd then you tap them and they play.
Its stupid because so many websites use h.264 video now, which android does support, yet we can't watch them.
Not sure I follow.
I go to YouTube (the proper site) on the HTC browser, I tap on a video, it loads and plays. What am I doing right?

It is that simple actually.
The thing is videos are played in a Flash player, instead of the Youtube app. Some people want to have it play in the Youtube app.

Embedded in the browser? The iPhone can't do that.
You can change the Youtube site to see the HTML5 version. You can do that on the Desire, I guess you can also do it on the iPhone. But that's with the Youtube site itself.

What exactly changes if using HTML5 in the context of the video itself?
The stock vids the Flash app plays on YouTube are in FLV mostly, right? But when you download those vids, it offers the H.264 MP4 files. Does HTML5 allow the better H.264 MP4 vid file to be played in the YouTube app through streaming?

The Trial is full featured, and has ads only in the menu (not in the videos), but you can download and keep only 3 videos per day, so no restrictions on the streaming.
For those wondering, the app uses the 360P and 720P MP4s used by Youtube, downloads them, and plays using the phone codecs directly (although the player has a different UI).
This is similar to, say KeepVid or KeepTube in its extraction of Youtube videos.
The quality was awesome. The UI of the app, not so much.
Double Posted for some reason. :/

As far as I know, there are NO limitations on viewing videos. But if you want to actually keep it, then there are 3...per day. Need to confirm this though for myself.
nope its not 3 per day, it just state I reached my download limit for trial...
I downloaded this, good find, thanks
It's very good, but would be awesome if it linked into your Zune library (i.e. the videos downloaded appeared in Videos), but I'm not sure if that's possible or not...
The trial is 3 vids total. Figured I'd better buy it in case it gets pulled from the Marketplace

Bug or Feature?

Just want to start off by saying that this phone is amazing besides the LOS. Well back on topic.
I have the updated version of youtube that was provided here on the forum. I downloaded it and installed. Ever since i installed it i noticed that i can play a YouTube video and turn off the screen and the video will continue playing. Now i can listen to some music that have remixes but are not available to download using the app.
What is yall's opinion on that. Good or bad?

I believe this is a feature because I was recording a video yesterday and when I did a playback the sound was still going while the screen was black.... Maybe its just to save backlight battery life
I would say its a bug. Sometimes when I am watching a flash video on the web browser and I exit the browser (and I mean even kill the browser in the task manager) the video audio will play until the end of the video. I think they've got bigger fish to fry with this LOS, but after that's solved, I intend to bring this one up.

Follow-up Question: Download Resolution
As a follow-up question on Tubemate:
I've been using Tubemate for about 5 months now and absolutely love it. One thing I've noticed, though, is that sometimes when I download a video at full resolution, it doesn't play very well in any video player I have tried (stock TW Video Player, MXPlayer, VLC). The video will play for a certain length (sometimes 1/2 the video, sometimes 3/4 of it) and the video will freeze (sound continues) and then the video will restart from the beginning. If I skip ahead of the "freeze point" the video continues fine.
I know that Tubemate downloads the files in sections and stitches it together (think of old-school r.00 and r.01 files), so it sounds like the problem is that the particular section the "freeze point" is in was corrupt. If I download the video in a different format (or redownload it at the original resolution) it sometimes works better.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with Tubemate downloads.

I've had this issue before.. It happens. Sometimes I go to the download folder and make sure its really at a 100%. But I figure its the video codecs on the phone.. sometimes they just hitch a part and its all downhill from there. But tubemate is by far the best. not only do you not have to deal with ads, it gives you options to select which video size you want which is always a plus

General YouTube Vanced Being Pulled

Awful news.
Vanced apparently got a cease & desist and will be pulling all links in a few days. Current Vanced should still work until the api is updated. Possibly up to two years but Google could update it anytime. Really awful news since there is currently no good alternatives on Android other than Adguard (which thankfully I have). With Adguard, you can play a video and then click share and select Adguard and it will play the video ad free in the Adguard app but no background play and no sponsorskip.
We can only hope that somehow an alternative is released before the api is updated.

True but Newpipe is just not an ideal alternative. It's slow, the background popup player is buggy and doesn't allow any touch inputs behind the pip screen other than pulling down the notification window and selecting an app through settings. The feed doesn't include what I would expect based on my subs and watch history. I'm thankful it's available for us but it's not even close to being a good alternative to Vanced.
Mod Edit: Quote removed since post removed.
Tried using this just now but it still shows adds and has no background play. Not sure what is needed to get what you and their website claim?
Potential alternative:
Brave Browser blocks all ads and will allow PIP background play as long as you minimize video while it's playing in Fullscreen mode. Seems to work well. Just wish we could get sponserskip and dislike counter but still, this will be usable once Google updates the api.
RIP Vanced. I have Premium but i'll miss the dark OLED theme and the sponsor/reminder skips.
This sucks
Hopefully apkmirror won't take the links down, I've used it for 4 years and had no issues, my grandma uses it too haha
I've got YT vanced on all my family members phones both for root and non root
Sad news, seems all apk links have already been removed from their site already? (Can't download anything from api.vanced).
With their code being available on GitHub & old devs/mods already distributing their own builds earlier in the year, I don't doubt that this will be back in some shape or form (probably by an anonymous dev) when an update is actually needed. I can't really understand Google's decision to take this action though; no one I know personally who owns a Android device knows what Vanced is when I mention it (even the techy people) & whenever a company goes on the warpath in a attempt to destroy something, multiple clones always pop up (sometimes even becoming bigger than the original because of news stories, etc).
I downloaded the Vanced Manager apk and saved it to my Google drive so I will have it to install on phones I upgrade to in the next couple of years. I have YouTube Premium but use YouTube Vanced so I can override the video codecs and watch 4K 2160 videos in 4K instead of the limit of my phone.

hell Id say I'll start taking over the project, but the whole me vs legal Google thing is a little terrifying to think about. I can only imagine how many thousands of people use Vanced, now that Google has focused it's attention to this, they are more than likely looking at each download as potential lost revenue. My thoughts are with the dev who created/maintained this. I really hope Google doesn't try to destroy him financially. I'm certainly not a law student, but I could see them put together one massive lawsuit to try to bury the person/people responsible.

Vanced manager is just a front-end "installer" that links to a download url or api. This will probably stop working in a few days or weeks (hopefully I'm wrong). Hopefully, there will be a decent fork of vanced. It has to be completely anonymous though - and that's the tough part.
i'm still using it on my samsung galaxy core prime run 4.4.4 because youtube is no longer supported as below screenshot.I used older version of youtube vanced because it isn't compatible with latest version of it.I tried to install newpipe, youtube go.But newpipe do not have google play services to sign in google account because i want to i want to comment on video live stream on youtube.Youtube go use google play services so it allows sign in google account but it doesn't allow sign in multiple accounts.I installed vanced and it is great when it allow me to sign in google account and use multiple accounts.I'm so sad to hear that youtube vanced will cease
I hope there will be an app to replace youtube vanced when the api is updated and it will support older android like my smartphone because youtube is no longer supported on my device
