Hey all,
I was given an S9 (Exynos version, unlocked, SM-960F/DS) that had TWRP installed on it, but was stuck in a boot loop. After messing with it for a while, I stuck it in a drawer and forgot about it until recently, when I pulled it out and decided to just restore it to stock. I downloaded a ROM for that specific model from this site ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/official-firmware-thread-regions-t3765015 ) and flashed it using Odin. This got the device to boot fine to the setup, but it defaulted to German, and rejected any SIM I put in it, even though the phone was originally unlocked. So my question is, now how do I remove the SIM lock again? I'm guessing I'll first have to wait the 7 days for the OEM unlock cooldown to elapse again so I can reinstall TWRP?

TWRP/Root/Custom has nothing to do with SIM locks, you'd need a sim unlocking service for that

Then why would the phone start demanding a PUK for any SIM I insert into it after flashing, when it didn't before? The SIMs work on any other phone I try them in.

Because certain SIM unlocking services depend on you not wiping the phone in order to keep the unlock
You'll need to unlock it again using a paid service

The phone was never locked to a carrier -- it was purchased sealed, factory unlocked.

In that case check it has not been IMEI blacklisted due to non payment of contract or reported stolen, you state in your OP it was given to you
If it is IMEI blocked there's nothing XDA can do to help you

What I meant by that was that a friend of mine handed it to me to try to fix after he messed with it in TWRP, getting it stuck bootlooping in the process. He had bought it factory unlocked. I checked the IMEI, it's clean. It's demanding PUKs for any SIM I put in it, even though those SIMs work in other phones; I tried a Ting SIM and a Cricket SIM.

Well the only thing I can think is to flash a stock firmware for the region you are in, pick a carrier firmware to force the CSC change, Multi-CSC that contains Germany will default back to that if that is what the phone's original CSC was, but I doubt CSC is causing this
O2U CSC (United Kingdom) for G960F is a single CSC, flash it using CSC and not HOME_CSC along with the other 3 sections
But it seems to me this was not originally a factory unlocked handset, it was unlocked by an unlocking service and sold as one
If that doesn't work, pay for an unlocking service

Is there a way I can find out what carrier the phone thinks it's locked to, or would I just have to get SIM cards from around the world and try them?
Can I do this without enabling OEM Unlock (so without letting the phone run for 7 days)?

Samsung Phone INFO will tell you the current CSC, but if it defaulted to German either you flashed a German firmware or that is the default CSC
OEM unlock is only needed for custom
Flashing a Multi-CSC ROM such as BTU for United Kingdom will have the greatest chance of it defaulting to it's original CSC
I used that app, and it indeed says the phone's CSC is German, Deutsche Telekom from what I could tell. I tried flashing a number of different FW packages (including the UK and Singapore ones) but it still defaulted to German each time.
I tried going to their unlock page and entering the IMEI, but they have no record of it being sold by them.

Like I said, try flashing a carrier branded firmware like O2U, it cannot default to German if that CSC is not included
Flash using CSC and not HOME_CSC
Sim lock is on its own secure enclave chip, so if this was truly Sim unlocked then it isn't even possible to "relock". Either was unlocked in an unreputable way, or is IMEI blocked as mentioned before.
So I just got time to re-visit this project. I flashed O2U firmware, and it defaulted to English and shows the corresponding CSC. The phone is still locked, and I checked a bunch of IMEI blacklist checkers and each one comes back clean. At this point I accept that the phone is actually locked by a carrier, so I need to instead figure out how to get it unlocked, and to do that I need to figure out what carrier it's locked to. Like I said earlier, I tried entering the IMEI into Deutsche Telekom's unlocking page, and they have no record of them having locked that phone. So how would I go about figuring out what carrier it's locked to? If that information is on its own secure enclave chip, is there any way to read it?
Afaik german providers are forbidden by law to simlock phones for several years already. Problem must be somewhere else.
Try entering the PUK of any SIM if that's what's requested. It should be on the full size SIM, else contact your mobile network operator.
Hey Guys,
Just wanted to check whether any working methods are around to change the CSC of a Note 10+
Couldn't find any guides apart from the ones which are in Note 9 Sections.
Any support on this is much appreciated!

Im also looking for a solution for this. SamKey's paid service is apparently supporting this but im unsure of the method their software uses and its a paid service. Users in Australia (like me) are having issues with RCS services through Telstra (TEL) because the Open Variant bought direct from Samsung not having the correct CSC. Some users have reported changing the CSC through SamKey successfully.
I have tried flashing with Telstra firmware but no luck.

I initially did *#272*IMEI# and was able to switch between CSC. When I switched to XAA, I was stuck and could not able to use the *#272*IMEI# anymore.. So I had XAA/XAA/ATT.. I saw many were stuck.
Found a solution that worked for me is as follows. Try at your own risk.
Downloaded the tool from
https://www.mysterious-dev.com/2020/05/changecsc-all-samsung-free-tool-android.html
and downloaded the ChangeCSC Software tool.. . watched the video couple of times.. The process lets you install custom THEME.. I was getting "Update" "Delete" and "Buy" ..
What did was
install another random theme
then went back to the program and clicked change CSC again
this time when I choose the custom theme pack, I saw the "Try now".. after that I followed the instruction to about phone->legal and clicked on CHANGE Carrier Android 10 and VOILA!!! I got that CSC change page.. I saw XAA was selected and I changed to TMB... after that "Sales& Network Code Change" and clicked ok.. .The phone restarted and saw the T-Mobile logo!!!!
I even tried the *#272*IMEI# and this time it worked and showed me the CSC screen!!!
Hope this helps anyone who is stuck...My phone now says TMB/TMB/ATT!!!

Hello,
Prior to doing the process. I used smartswitch and backed up my phone completely.. I also did factory reset the phone.. *** Since I was going to use a new method/tool, I was not sure so wanted to make sure it does not interfere with any existing account/app on the phone. Once I was able to get to the CSC screen and changed to TMB, I went back again to make sure do a factory wipe and start complete fresh out. Hope this helps. Good luck!

hmm.. don't recall if it wiped.. I already had T-Mobile sim inside.. so when I saw the CSC selection page and as soon I choose TMB it restarted and came with T-Mobile splash Page, at that point I know it worked, so before even finishing up the boot process, I rebooted in recovery and did the factory reset

I had to do the CSC changing today and it simply rebooted and displayed the new CSC logo. It was with AT&T and when I change it to TMB. I get the T-Mobile boot logo.. I was able to get back in to the device without loosing any data.. The CSC showed TMB/TMB/TMB.. But I noticed the ringer/notifications sound still remained the AT&T settings. So to answer your initial question, my phone didn't get wiped out when switching the CSC.
Thx

I have found *some* Samsung models can still change CSC via firmware flash in Odin by following these pre requisites...
- disable find my phone
- sign out of Google and samsung accounts
- developer mode .... enable oem unlock
- flash a single CSC stock firmware in odin (do not use home-csc)
- phone will be completely wjped but after first boot and running setup, CSC will be change to match new firmware
Have any one tried

Has anyone had success with installing carrier firmware on an unlocked phone from a different carrier? I am able to flash XAA (unlocked) software to the phone but haven't had success with verizon software. After installing the unlocked software, I lose the original T-mobile screen when powering on along with all the bloatware. However, if I try to flash verizon firmware onto it, it reverts back to T-mobile screen, bloatware etc.
I've tried the following:
TMB-->VZW (fail, stays TMB)
TMB-->XAA (success, even changes phone info to SM-n975u1)
TMB-->XAA-->VZW (fail, reverts to TMB)
VZW software used was for SM-n975u as that was what people had success with when I looked through forums.
I'm going to leave it with unlocked firmware for now but would appreciate any tips with flashing verizon firmware. I'd like to get all the verizon features if possible.
Are you trying to use you T-Mobile SIM card with it as Verizon? If so, newer firmwares will prohibit that due to the SIM detect function.
Thanks for the response. No, I'm using my Verizon sim card. The call, text, web actually work fine. I was just hoping to get functions like Verizon Voicemail, call filter etc.
Did you boot your phone with the VZW SIM after flashing XAA? You have to do this before flashing the VZW firmware. That's worked for me when I went from ATT --> XAA + boot with VZW SIM --> VZW
Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
No I havent tried that yet! Will attempt it when I get home from work and update the post. Thanks guys!
I flashed xaa and put in my vzw sim, restarted the phone and then tried to flash vzw. Unfortunately that did not work. Still comes up Tmobile.
I'm trying to get my unlocked att Note10+ to Verizon. I hope flashing will get this to work
As of now, I think just using the unlocked xaa firmware is your best option. Download the xaa firmware using samfirm or sammobile and flash it with Odin. It seems to be working fine for me currently. I cant get all Verizon functions like Verizon Voicemail but I haven't noticed many other issues.

Are you flashing the Verizon Userdata as well in Odin?
do anyone have stock firmware for SM-N975U trying to remove the frp on it it a verizon version dont care about erasing the data on it
Out of curiousity why did you want to got to verizon? I have found a software issue with the n976V firmware that locks out verizon MVNO sims. Seems to bypass the sim data per my carrier.
Was looking to go the other way.
I recently unlocked my Sprint branded Note10+ and switched to Verizon. My phone won't stop trying to connect to the Sprint network even with the Verizon SIM card in. I have tried factory resets, wiping the cache, I even installed Verizon firmware onto the device using Odin. Even with the Verizon firmware, it still says that it's a Sprint branded phone in the settings. I'm frustrated because my phone always says that it's roaming, so it won't download picture messages or use data etc. For some reason the setting to turn on roaming data is missing. I am totally lost. At this point I might have to switch back to sprint or sell my phone unless someone can help me get my data working.

Three things I can think of..
Are you sure the phone is actually unlocked or not?
Did you get the phone unlocked by Sprint or another service?
What was the process (or steps you took) you used when switching from Sprint to Verizon firmware?
Note - Question 3 is just seeing if you may have done inadvertently something wrong or skipped a step.

I unlocked the phone through Sprint customer service and they have confirmed that it is indeed unlocked for international and domestic services.
The flashing was done using Odin 3.13 PatcheD. I factory reset the phone, flashed, factory reset, then attempted to activate the phone. After many failed activation attempts, I flashed again and tried it with nanderase selected to no avail.

With the sim card out the entire process did you flash the U1 firmware, factory data reset the phone, and then flash the Verizon Firmware and factory data reset the phone (after flashing the Verizon firmware).
Also did you use the other CSC file (not the home_CSC) as well as the appdata file when flashing the Verizon firmware?
Following. I have a T-Mobile Note 10+ that I am trying to flash to Verizon. It takes my Verizon SIM fine and functions, but I cannot flash Verizon firmware to it and it still says it is T-Mobile branded even after restart.
The flashing process appears to work correctly, and Odin gives me a success, but when the phone reboots it is still T-Mobile.

Turned out I wasn't getting the Pop-up to change the carrier code with U1 flashed. I followed the additional instructions here when I had the U1 firmware flashed to force the screen up. Now I see the proper VZW/VZW/TMB when checking under software information.
I get the feeling this may be required for you @jsleatherbury to get the phone to stop acting like a Sprint phone! I had no issue putting my Verizon sim card into my phone and getting service with the the T-Mobile software, but this might be what @jsleatherbury requires.

Oh...I forgot... I did have imeigurus.com unlock the device first, then flashed unlocked firmware and all three were XAA/XAA/XAA. So I'm assuming the unlock procedure is actually what gave me that CSC. I then flashed unlocked firmware and had no issues.
I'm having the same problem. When I got into the software screen I'm seeing sprint still. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I tried flashing to verizon firmware. Now I'm unable to use any data. It keeps saying "You have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turn off" When I go into the settings don't see an option to turn on data roaming. I can't seem to get it to change to vzw. Anyone have a vzw csc only not a multi.

I tried flashing to verizon firmware. Now I'm unable to use any data. It keeps saying "You have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turn off" When I go into the settings don't see an option to turn on data roaming. I can't seem to get it to change to vzw. Anyone have a vzw csc only not a multi.

make sure ur apn is set correctly and put device in global mode.. if all else fails maybe get a new sim card and check with your carrier that theres no towers down or without lte in ur area..
I got it fixed!! It was on global still wouldn't work. I found a thread on here about a program called Activity Launcher. Found the secret network menus and boom it's working! Thanks for all the help.

So I was thinking of flashing my Galaxy S20+ with the unlocked firmware. However I'm concerned that doing so will wipe out the ESim for my Galaxy watch 3. Does anyone know if the ESim data is stored on the watch or the phone and/or if reflashing the phone (or factory resetting it for that matter) would wipe it out?
It was quite a painful process getting AT&T to add the watch to my account. I had to add an additional line and then call back to cancel the old watch. I don't relish having to call them back again because I accidentally wiped out the ESim.
Thanks, and yes I know this is probably a stupid newbie question.

I got my N20U & GW3 together, phone was running carrier locked firmware, I switched CSCs to unlocked BTU CSC using samkey, and got an update OTA for the BTU firmware, so now N20U is running BTU and Galaxy Watch 3 still works as it should / was prior to changing CSCs
The watch has it's own modem, can make calls without the phone, has it's own number, it only relies on the phone for syncing media and data from apps, it doesn't 'need' the phone to function as a phone
