It's lonely up here - V50 - will you come? - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

LG has a present for you...
UPDATE:
Here is what to expect if you head for V50!
Sound quality increased by 5-10% over G7, don't know how much over v30.
RCS messages from Google fully working.
Stellar battery life ~9 hours with some heavy usage - for example downloaded and uploaded today via wifi and lte around 15 GB, one software update, and some 4K60FPS with super steady mode enabled - around 20 min total movies, some photos, 2 hours of tidal with Bluetooth ldac and screen off, the rest for websurfing and YouTube.
Stellar cameras. Best out there. Tested VS note 10 plus and p30pro. P30pro is a big s... t, except in zoom
Stellar display. My wife has regular s10 and V50 is better. Same blacks, same VIVID COLORS, but WAAAAY better WHITE.
Camera software has so many settings, not gimmicks. Really nice video editing software.
Nice design. Those cameras under glass are so sexy.
5G
Really nice Haptic vibrator.
Better boom box speaker compared with g7
Each mobth I got an update. 2 on July, one on August in fact
What else!? TV app and more functions that I didn't had on G7.

4 me? nice

Looking to get some devs over to the v50?

It's a perfect phone. Feel free to ask anything. I can give you feedback.

First you gotta fix LGs marketing ... especially in Europe... V50 is available at ... what? 2 or 3 carriers (in whole europe).
Otherwise no normal shop even has it, only thing i find (in shops from germany/austria/uk/poland via price comparison site) is an offer from ebay for 900€.

What, a free phone or something?
Not really interested in any of the 1st generation "5G" phones.

Other than the European dual screen version which v50 is Bootloader unlockable?

lg v50
is it better than v30

Just buy an lg g8
Better price available triple cameras (in europe) and offer the same features as the v50 just if you want DUAL DISPLAY or 5G just waiiiiiiiiiiitttt and throw 200$ for extra nothing

With the V50 appearing to be a flop, LG's trying its hand again with the V60. The V60 is expected to be announced during IFA 2019, and this is everything we know about the phone so far.

That will be better "5G" phone and better cameras. But I'm still holding onto my V30+.

I hope the V70 (not a typo) won't have a notch or any sort of cut in the screen and keeps the headphone jack. In that case it will be my next phone... in 4 years after i'm done with my V30

Yeah, I'm waiting until the notch fiasco goes away.
And I still want headset jack, just because.
But next year (2020) will be V70, and that will be 3 years since 2017 V30, not 4 years...
I kept my last phone 3 years, so I can do it again.
I have a mint 2018 V35 but it's still in the box. Rooted V30+ is my daily phone.

I think you're already set for a few years. The V35 is like the perfect upgrade after a V30

V30 has RCS, VoLTE and Wifi Calling too. My LTE speeds on Sprint are 200 Mbps. Right now there is no incentive for me to upgrade to a battery hogging 5G phone especially with all the health concerns.

Because overall, my V30+ is better.
V35 is only 64GB internal memory, while my V30+ is 128GB. (The only V35+ was sold in Brazil, and I cannot get it over the internet. Even if I could, they want about $1,200 for it.) Yes, I have microSD card, but I like using internal memory better when possible.
V35 rooting very hard, there's no do-it-yourself. Unless there's something I'm not aware of, you have to ship your phone off to some other country or let someone remote in and hack your phone. I bought it when @runningnak3d was intently working on a root method, but his life focus changed and he no longer does that.
There's a older version of TWRP for V35 -- but no one seems to be using it. No reports it works with Pie. People who do root either can't install TWRP due to no fastboot or just don't seem to be using it. There's no devs over there working on it.
If just wanted to run a non-rooted phone with the same internal memory I had back in 2014 (64GB Moto Quark), yes it's a great phone.
My current phone has 128GB internal memory (plus my microSD card), is rooted. I have all the tweets and mods that I want. Anxious V30 module gives me updated camera features, plus dual speaker mode. With Xposed, I have the status bar icons I want. I have call auto recording, lots of other stuff. I see no reason to change right now.
I'm keeping the V35, of course -- and at some point may be my wife's "new" phone. I was just hoping for something as good as my V30+.
I waited 3 years between my 2014 Moto Quark and the 2017 LG V30, and I can wait another 3 years.

LG V30+ India Thread

Hi,
As per invites Lg is going to release newest V30+ in India this 13th December 2017. Who's excited?
There are still few things unknown like will we get unlocked device with boot loader unlock available officially in future (too optimistic?), price of the phone and coming with pre installed Oreo?
Feel free to share your views about the device, its performance, updates, customer support etc. here.
About time this thread started!
My wish list:
1. Most importantly, I hope that launch date = availability date. We're done with announcements, LG
2. B&O earphones please - don't shortchange Indian customers
3. Oreo - although not so important for now
4. All colour variants please, especially Moroccan blue
5. Pricing sub 50k would be good.

Oh crap!
I couldn't wait for India launch so I ordered the V30+ from HK a week ago, its being delivered later on today! Paid 63k total, yikes!!
I have been looking for a good dual SIM phone to upgrade to from my Nexus 6p and right now the only contenders are HTC U11 plus, LG V30, and OP5T. HTC U11 Plus is my ideal phone, but not sure if it launching here. A question to LG device owners here, are their dual SIM phones rootable and will the V30 also be rootable? If it's not rootable, then I''ll have to wait even longer for my next device.
Edit: Never mind looks like root is not available on any of the versions of this phone.
Crazy pricing! Rs45k - available on Amazon exclusively from 18-Dec. But from what I read, no B&O earphones and no Oreo. Also only black & silver colours. But all that is ok given that its almost 20k less than Note 8 and horrendously priced Pixel 2 XL. They'll have to cut pricing now.

Really Confused after the Price annoucement at Rs45k.
Hi all, I'm new to this awesome site. I am from India.
I'm confused between HTCu 11, HTCu 11 Plus and LG v30+ to buy.
U11 and V30 are available at the same price.
Q1:-Could anyone tell me around when U11+ will come to India?
My experiences with both V20 and G6 have been so horrendous that I had to sell them both within the first month as I could not take in the stutter and awful overnight battery drain and mild heating issues even when I was using it casually(no games or FBook etc).
Q2:- u11 Plus would be priced, even if it does arrive in India, at least Rs 10k-15k ( 150 to 230 American dollars ) higher than U 11. I dont want to spend that much more if the upgrade is not worth it. So is it worth that much?
Please someone... anyone.... do reply
Thanks
I was not at all expecting a price tag of 45K at all. LG phones don't really hold their value, but this price seems very reasonable. About 7k more than OP5t but offering better screen, cameras, audio output through headphone jack , IP68 rating etc. while OP5t 128GB version has double the RAM though and better software. with custom ROM support. Really hard choice to make!!! I still think the U11 plus is the right phone for me, but HTC I don't know what they are doing by not releasing their phone.
Anyone knows about Official bootloader unlock for Indian version? Will it ever come? Anyone with experience in past with lg phones?

It is surprising and it makes me wonder how it differs from the versions sold abroad. Whether anything is missing, the v30 in the uk was launched at £800 cuple of months back, this one works out to £520. The difference is online store margins are less than street retail
oneplus does not have better software. It only has better rom support.
It looks like the india version is the same as the HK one (going by the user manual) , the boot loader will likely be unlockable so forget getting root
unless you import the euro variant which means no warranty in India whereas they get two years

I had battery drain just one night out of a month i own the v20. A restart fixed it. I would say the one thing The v20 has low drain otherwise averaging 4-6% per 12h with the secondary screen off. Otherwise its 1% per hour and if it faces somewhere bright can be higher as it seems to brighten the screen up on its own irrespective of what auto brightness was set to.
As far as temperature goes this is a cool phone. Won't cross 33 degrees C at fastest charge which happens only with screen off as with all LG phones. The G4 would run five degrees warmer on avg

India is basically getting the "$400 gift card" price (where you have to buy two LG devices) without having to buy two phones or any hassle with submitting receipts, forms. They're just getting the final price and even a few dollars less.
U.S.: 2 X $930 (LG V30+) = $1860 - $400 gift card = $1460 / 2 = $730.
And the gift card trick is no longer available in U.S. I was forced to buy a carrier unlocked LG V30 to qualify before the December 2 deadline. My second phone will then be the carrier unlock LG V30+, when it's released. India even beat us on that.
India: $700 LG V30+. (44,900 rupees)
so did anyone pre ordered yet ?

Haven't heard of any display anomalies plaguing ALL of the international units. But people do like to start rumors.
Just like the people who tried to make it a "widespread" problem in the U.S. It wasn't. And since production ramped up in September, it's been even lesser percentage as time goes on.

According to one of the reviews I saw on YouTube, it says Made in India at the back of the device. And also B n O earphones are replaced by LG made earphones.

Thinking whether to buy LG G7 ThinQ or wait for V40 (a V20 User)

Hello Everyone,
I am fan of LG and using LG V20 currently. I have used Optimus Black, G, G3 in the past years and I could not leave LG for many reasons. So here is my question. Will it be good if I buy G7 now or shall I wait for LG V40? Most importantly I am from India and If I buy G7, I will get G7 with Quad DAC.
I am not sure why G7 released with Oreo 8.0 not 8.1 (New Software upgrade center team wont have time to give 8.1 to latest flagship??)
As far as the early reviews I like G7 for the below features.
1. 16 MP wide angle CAM and AI enabled Primary CAM
2. 18:9 display, Brightest screen with 1000 Nits.
3. Obviously latest SD845
I don't like G7 for the below
1. QC 3.0 charger in the box even though phone supports 4.0
2. Less battery compared to V20 and V30
3. Hybrid Sim slot. V20 has dedicated slot.
Biggest reason why I can think of skipping G7 and wait for V40
Hope V40 will come with Android P since in a month or so my V20 will have 8.0. so buying G7 wont make any difference I think

G7 has no 18:9 aspect ratio i think its around 19,5:9 (i think this doesnt matter, i think your were relating to small bezels i guess)
The other Pros seem legit.
About the cons:
I would not care so much about the charger.
I would suggest to wait for reviews here in the forum and youtubers to judge the battery. I think it will be similar to the S8. (people will argue that they claim the screen is 30% more efficient and that it has 2 generations newer SoC but at the end of the day, your have an octacore flagship SoC and a 1000nit bright screen... this is sucking all batteries dry dont fool yourself. especially if you buy the phone for the bright mode and the high performance (you mentioned that these are important to you) there is no reason in arguing that the battery life will be any good. from what i heard the boost is 3min maximum because the phone overheates after that... you can guess that its the battery overheating since its draining so fast. this is bad for battery lifetime in general as well as battery life througout the day)
I am not sure what your mean with the sim card slot. But if you need 2 sim cards, i guess you will have to manage with the 64/128 gig of storage. i think thats enough for most people.
I dont think that the V40 will arrive with Android P. I think it will take them longer. The V30 did not arrive with Oreo as far a i know.
I belive though that the Price will drop rapidly. The G6 was 700 Euros in Germany and 2 months later already it was down to 450 Euros. You dont need to know anything about Euros to see that the price dropped significantly in a short period of time. If you wait for the V40, you can decide for yourself what is the better phone but when it arrives the G7 will probably be down to 60% of its starting price.

I'm eager to buy G7, in my case it probably would be 128/6Gb variant. I'm tired waiting for specbump, 845 seems to be lots better over 820 in V20. I'm sitting on V20, too. As for V40 it's too long to wait, and still I'm almost sure it'll have same 845 , same 6Gb and only difference might be OLED, just tad bit better quality than V30. Is it worth waiting another 6 month? IDTS, I don't think so.
Probably MI7 or 1+6, U12 will be some overwhelming devices, and I'd prefer one of them to G7, anyway G7 won't appear until June
If until June Youtubers will show some major problems with G7 I'll then retreat and buy V30 or Pixel2XL instead and then happily wait for V40
V30 is like 500€ on Amazon right now, started at 900€ last December, arrived pretty late. By that time nobody wanted to buy it lol they just take too long to make it available in Europe. Like 3 months after presentation.

Whatever. Like if LG had made it available in September on Europe Amazon somebody would've bought it for 900 €. No. Nobody. It would lay on shelves the same until price eventually dropped to 400 €
On your reason for waiting for the V40 as it might support dual sim AND a separate SD card slot, I don't think it will. The V30 ThinQ has the same configuration as the LG G6/G7 (https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_v30s_thinq-9090.php), so you give up SIM 2 for the SD card. I thought I was going to be disappointed when I got my dual SIM G6 because of this, but I wasn't. I keep both SIMs in full time, and as @0alfred0 said, I have enough memory on the phone and don't really need it anyway.
@krk2krk you bought g7 bro? Am interested if we can unlock the bootloader of Indian version. Or what version is that we are getting? Any idea
There is a lot I like about this phone. Great sound, good screen and decent brightness with a loud speaker. Be prepared for bad battery life. LG just doesn't optimize well. My HTC u11 has the same size battery and getting 7 hours sot was normal. I once got 9 hours sot.
I just purchased a battery case which adds 4700 mah to the existing 3000. Now I can run at max brightness and max resolution.

That's wrong. U11 had 835 SoC which is much more cooler and energy efficient than 845 which is hot and power hungry. U11 is suited to compare with LG V30, V30 had same battery life to U11 because same SoC
And also U11 had much less bright screen, with max brightness around 350nit, MAX. G7 in daylight boosts to 1000nit, while U11 will keep 350 only. Because of that U11 will show better battery life, you just may keep your G7's brightness at 80% without auto on to keep its brightness at 350-400nits. If you turn autobrightness in G7 on than it'll suck juice very quicker than U11

Around Summer '19? Yeah. You know that G7 is a half-year old phone? So it's selling for $600 everywhere around the world

Agree but waiting for few months to get a flagship for 600$ is good right
Waiting for few months till summer '19 means you get 8 months old not so top flagship phone. It isn't very smart idea, is it?

Of course. I'm too still waiting for price drop of G7. What I mean is just that lg is not selling G7 in India cheap. From the start. It's about time to announce V40 and price for G7 dropped to 600 so LG are starting to bring g7 on not so rich markets.
BTW is G7 sold in India "made in India" also? As I've read V30 had been assembled in India, probably V40 will be too

You are right on that.

Who's getting it ?

Are you planning to buy LG's new flagship ?
I've been hanging onto an HTC 10 and will either get this or the HTC U12!
I am using the V30, and i'm thinking of getting the G7 because of that Display brightness and boombox Sound !
But the ThinQ is, that its dont have an AMOLED Screen.
But in General If you are using the V30 you dont have to "Upgrade" to the G7, i will wait to See what the V40 will Bring, and then decide to Switch or Not.
For now the we dont have many DEVs for the V30 for having new Roms. This is a downside of the new LGs Phones. Maybe i will leave the LG Community to enter the Pixel 3 XL or One Plus 6T Community. Because i prefere Software oder Hardware
Im still using the G5 and im very happy that it is going to get Oreo, so I dont consider upgrading for at least one more year.
The G7 is a beast of a phone indeed.

Don't be fooled by Display brightness, it's only gimmick. Under sunlight G7 will bump up brightness just like your V30 does, exactly. Only difference is your may bump up yourself but only for 3 minutes long, after that it'll keep brighness on standard until cooled. And in those 3 minutes it'll eat up 5-7% of battery I bet

Definitely getting one of the most anticipated of 2018, hoping to get the unlocked version to UAE. Still on my LG G4. I wished all variants are bootloader unlocked.

I wonder is the pixel port mod works with this phone. I saw they had one for the v30 that could use both cameras normal and wide. I'm on s8 and thinking about picking this phone up but unsure yet reviews say the camera pics are way over saturated.
I got the g7 plus. I live in Korea. Model number is LM-G710N. Here are a few shots of normal camera and wide angle. I didnt change positions at all. Battery life has been excellent even though it only has 3000mah.
Oh i also forgot to mention, Boombox is legit.
I'm a huge HTC fan, but the 12 isn't available on Sprint so its either this phone or the Samsung S9. Right now I'm leaning towards the g7.
My questions is, what does the development look like? I've been with HTC since the beginning and it looks like LG locks their stuff down... I'd want stock Oreo if I can't have Sense!
Ordered from tmobile in raspberry rose.
I am thinking about getting one, But since I am a developer, I wont consider one till I know that the t-mo edition can be rooted........ So I am going to wait a bit and see how the scene looks in 2 months....
and yes I know I can buy a US unlocked edition, that is beside the point...........................
Purchased the bogo with TMobile. Hopefully that screen and bottom headphone jack makes it worth it. Been back on the v30+ after Oreo and the phone is acceptable other than the screen.
hello, how's the screen contrast, on the web i can see that the blacks are almost grey because of lcd ?

H932 t-mobile v30/v30+ owners....

T-Mobile has really cracked down on our ability to root our phones. I'm not sure if I'll be willing to go with a TMO LG once again simply because they have made things very difficult for us.
Next time I will go with an unlocked phone but unfortunately a lot of the unlocked phones may or may not have all the bands that T-Mobile uses. The international unlocked version of the lgv30 allegedly have the capability of using 600 megahertz but to my knowledge no one has actually succeeded in testing that alleged ability out.
The new OnePlus phones do have the 600 megahertz ability which is nice but OnePlus phones in my opinion do not offer all the bells and whistles that a Samsung Galaxy S9 or an LG v30 plus has to offer.
LG has certainly disappointed me with their international version not by default having 600 megahertz. And T-Mobile has definitely disappointed me by controlling what a bought outright phone owner can do with their phone.

Well. My OnePlus 6 has all the bells and whistles I need like bottom mounted headphone jack, flat screen (not curved edges), unlocked bootloader with official TWRP, regular updates (treble support), equalizer for headphone jack (something that is a huge let down on my V30), very low amount of bloatware, stock android (mostly), notification toggle slider key, amazing battery life, immense performance, dual SIM option since I have 4 active SIM cards, 8gb RAM/128gb storage, insanely strong network connections via WiFi (490mbps) & LTE (125mbps at times) including a great connection in underground train stations, great GPS, Android 8.1 instead of buggy/laggy 8.0, and mostly everything else I use. I can't think of anything the V30 has that I need that the OnePlus 6 doesn't. Sure wireless charging, but I've used it once 7months ago for 9minutes. Dash charging is crazy fast!
It's just too bad that LG won't update the V30 & G6 with Treble support, I mean OnePlus just pushed treble support to older devices! LOL
Sucks I have to stop being an LG "fanboy" but I'm done buying carrier flagships now. But the v30 is still really good.

But no QHD display, no Qi wireless charging, no IP68 waterproofing.
I detest OnePlus almost as much as Apple because they won't give customers premium features. At least Apple finally gave users Qi wireless charging -- but OnePlus won't. Apple at least gives IP67.
I'm also not going to dump all my QuickCharge chargers for proprietary Dash chargers.
I also don't like that the often cheat at benchmarks tests.
I would buy Samsung before OnePlus, in that they have QHD display, Qi wireless charging, IP68, etc. They're a real premium phone, like LG.

Wireless charging has no use for me as I've used it for less than 10min of my entire life.
And larger than 1080p doesn't matter on a screen less than 62 inches.
All OEMs cheat on benchmark, they just push to max settings. No biggie.
My V30 charger chsrges my OP6 faster than it charges my V30. You don't NEED to use dash charger at all, people that say and think so are idiots and you shouldn't listen to them! Yes dash is faster in comparison but quick charge works just fine.

Also like to agree that OnePlus isn't at the 'premium' level yet.
Returned my op6 to keep v30.
V30 screen is better and supports daydream
Size is better for me op6 is a hair to big.
Prefer no notch
Vibrate motor is the op6 is Mickey mouse
LTE radio is the same as sd845 in v30
I think the v30 camera is better and op6 has two cameras but no wide angle which makes no sense
Op is making strides but they're not there yet. When I returned the device I told them I'd pay $200 more for $200 more phone.
I'm thinking that in October pixel 3 will be the phone to beat. If not, I'll wait till 2019 with v30
Bacon612 were you able to listen to music thru wired earbuds on the op6? If so could you comment on the audio quality between the V30 and the op6 please?

I didn't get a chance to, no. I used it as a daily with root for about a week and a half. Received my v30 during that time (for $325) and it was a no brainier deciding which one to keep for me.
Bought a 6 which arrives tomorrow so I'll put it thru it's paces. I do like my V30 but I also love root and flashing ROMs and the fact that my T-Mobile V30 is still locked down with no solution for it in the near future is frustrating.
Thanks for taking the time to reply bud.

Many good points raised here. I really like my v30 plus. Even tho it's stock, it's the best phone I've had thus far.
Time will tell what's next.
I'd like to sample an OP6 but they aren't found in local stores. It's almost a leap of faith if you don't know anyone that owns one, where you can actually experience it.

Agreed the vibration is way too intense on the OP6. I hate it, but lowered it with the kernel I use.
V30 has great camera. OP6 has a significantly better camera than the G7, but I've only spent about a week with the G7 so far.
I use my v30 for daydream also, since it came with the daydream viewer.
The, "notch" actually no longer bothers me since I don't form opinions based on the bandwagon internet haters of it. At this point I kinda like it. Before having the OP6 I was one of the idiotic masses who viewed it as a piece of the bezel overlapping the screen, when in reality it's the complete opposite. Theres actually 2 parts of the screen overlapping the bezel. Basically making the speaker, LED, & Camera part of the status bar, so basically the status bar s part of the bezel, giving more screen availability to the user.
But to each their own.
I'm just finished with companies that void warranty for unlocking the Bootloader or rooting and lock me out of having root.

I know you're not asking me. But i have both phones in my hand as i type this.
V30 sounds good, very clear. However, the top mounted headphone jack ruins.the entire usage of headphones while mobile.
Another thing about the v30 is that for some stupid reason, they decided to not include an equalizer for the headphone jack (DAC) Which I believe the V10, V20, & G7 do include.
I'm a bass head and NEED the heavy bass in my headphones.
For this, and this is my preference, the OP6 definitely has better sound in earbuds due to the equalizer.
Plus, the OnePlus headphones are 24ohm impedance which make them sound great in the v30 also.
Whereas the LG/B&O earbuds are complete garbage especially for $150.
For earbuds, OnePlus 6 wins.
For driven speakers and extrenal powered sound systems, the V30 kills it due to the immense clarity of the DAC.
The OP6 may not be B&O tuned but surely does have a great quality sound driver!

I used to feel strongly about having the ability to root, but in recent years it's become less important to me. Possibly because I moved away from bloated Samsung phones (S6 was last) and I discovered Package Disabler app (for Samsung and LG phones). I'm grateful T-Mobile phones have less bloat than Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T versions. Unfortunately T-Mobile phones are usually the last to receive major OS updates.
In regards to the OP6, no wireless charging, no waterproof, and no wide-angle camera are deal breakers for me.
Well after playing with the OP6 the last few days looks like I'm selling my V30. I do see where both phones have their pros and cons but overall I like the 6. The only gripe I had when I first got the phone was the slight difference in the resolution on the display and the sound when listening to music thru my earbuds. But after tweaking the eq to my liking it sounds great. I don't even notice the display anymore since the difference is so minimal. The major plus for me is the huge dev community behind the 6 and looking forward to all tweaks and improvements that go along with that.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to chime in here. Your input was much appreciated.

Getting a LG V30 in 2019

Well, what should i say? I'm a ex LG G5 User, tripped over to a Axon 7, Xperia XZ Premium, Pixel 2 XL, Mix 2, Galaxy S9+ and now... Back to LG. I reall like the Design of the V30. The Hardware is still in competition with Devices like the OnePlus 7 Pro (Maybe beyond with Dolby and the Audio), and that for 200€ + 64Gb Card. Here is the Point.
What do You like for/on the V30? Stock ROM (Pie) or do You prefer AOSP? I will Support this Device once it's in My Hands...
Looking Forward to get the best Out of this great Device!

I stay on aosp. It squeeze an avergare of 9+ sot out of a 3300 batter.y . Though v30 can't compare cpu to op7 pro, but gaming is ok for me
I think v30 is a still solid phone in 2k19. Sd835 4 gb ram and 64gb rom with expandable storage. Great cameras. Selfie is garbage but good enough when u use gcam. Still a competitor

I think it's a great phone for the price.
Amazing rear camera.
Qhd amoled display.
I switch between stock and aosp.
Audio features are amazing.
Battery life break.
The only thing is front camera is not on par with newer phones and even with SD835 gaming is still good for me.

Go for the V30+, 128GB. Here in the U.S. you can get mint V30+ for $160.
I stay on stock rooted firmware, with Magisk mods. Pie is still being rolled out to all the variants.
___
LG V30/V30+
* 1440P OLED (537 ppi)
* Qi wireless charging
* 3.5mm headset jack
* Quad DAC
* DTS 3D stereo (with root to enable LG libs)
* IP68 dust/water resistance
* rear camera OIS on normal lens - plus 120 degree wide angle lens
* superfast fingerprint sensor
* 64GB (V30) or 128GB (V30+) internal storage
* microSD port for additional storage
* bootloader unlock and root
* no notch
Got the V30S+ in 2019 (H930DS variant) and am completely satisfied with it. 256 GB storage and 6GB RAM with the SD835 is really plenty of resource for at least a couple of years.

If you do it that way, you willingly waive warranty to get LG bootloader unlock code.
If you use WTF instructions to unlock bootloader, you don't tell LG you wish to waive warranty. You don't need their permission.
Your choice.
I did it the official way for one of my US998 until WTF became available.
ROOT YOUR V30!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
Stock rooted (Magisk) Oreo on my H931 converted to a US998, not one issue, 9+ hours of SOT effectively every charge if I want it, even hit 17+ one time (seriously).
Not interested in Pie at all, it'll probably be nothing but problems since Oreo is so mature now and Pie really offers nothing of any consequence or new that matters at all to me.
The V30 is damned near perfect, really. Sure, the stock camera software is a bit yucky, sadly, but aside from that (Gcam has some ports that work great and provide much better image quality) it's pretty much the best smartphone I've ever owned - and I've owned over 300 of 'em over the years (yes that means 300 different ones).
Honestly I still miss the LG G4, best camera assembly ever IMO, even to this day there was just something truly magical about that hardware and software combination that took pics I still can't improve on with even the newest cameras in the latest smartphones. It was just so oddly unique, a seriously awesome happy coincidence that I'll miss for a long time.

I don't play games, but I recently did get a Daydream View VR headset from another member here (thanks again!) and was playing with that a few days ago when it arrived. Still haven't installed any games on it and I may never do it, it's more of something to experiment with than anything else.
Dark theme as already mentioned (I'm on Oreo so the LG G8 dark theme on the Play Store works fine, I know the Pie update breaks some aspects but I think there's a fix for it somewhere that I saw mention of). I use dark themes with every app that I can - I keep my brightness at 50% always except for instances where I'm in a really bright environment like outdoors or someplace with excessive fluorescent lighting (at never more than 90% brightness) or watching videos (75%). NEVER use 100% brightness, seriously, it's a waste of power and the OLED display in the V30 doesn't like it, no OLEDs do really, the 90% point (tap the brightness icon on the notification dropdown once or twice and you'll see it) is more than enough.
I don't use Bluetooth save for the Daydream View thing but that was just for a few hours and honestly I kept the damned phone plugged in (thank some higher power for long USB-C cables) when I did it. I only use Google Voice for my "phone calls" and texts so I rarely ever enable the cellular at home and only when I'm out.
I kill apps I'm not using, don't care how efficient the Snapdragon 835 might be, or Oreo, if I'm not using an app it's not gonna sit there so my recent apps list is almost always empty. I don't use social media crap like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram, etc, just Discord and Hangouts to keep in touch with people, and a lot of Flipboard and Google News activity but really that's pretty much it.
Biggest tip: TURN DOWN THE DAMNED BRIGHTNESS. Seriously. Run it at 50% or even less as often as you possibly can, disable auto-brightness, and learn to not use more than necessary - the brightness of the display is still the single largest waste of power on smartphones in general and it can be cut in half or more by just lowering it and not having max brightness all the time like I see so many people do.
So i really see a hard decision Here again like on Xperias.
Stock feels good to me and has some nice Features Like the DAC Switch. But AOSP will give extra Battery Life and LG was slow with the Updates. Android Q will be a huge Update that comes These Days and i'm not even sure If the V30 will get it officially one Day. So in View of Support would it make more Sense for Me to Work with AOSP in theory...
Will unlock My Baby today and Play a bit around. Thanks for all the Input Folks! Feels already good to be here in the Forum
Greetings all.
I'm in dilemma so I need your advice. Little background first.
Had the LG g5 h850, Was completely pleased with it, until I smashed it by accident. Went to a sammy s9+, which is a very good all around phone..
However, I'm considering coming back to LG.
The exynos devices have next to 0 gcam support wheres Gcam on the G5 was just perfect. no need to edit the pictures after, the color balance was great, very sharp, plus night mode.
I barely play games, so I doubt the older chipset will matter.
My only concern is about the 4 gigs of ram since i heavily multitask.
I can find the us998 vesrion for around 170e refurb from china but I can't find the 6 gig version, Was it sold only in the US or something?
Anyhow my choices are
LG v30 refurb - 170e
new xiaomi Mi mix 2s - 250
new redmi k20 pro - 300
I'm more inclined to go for the v30, what would you do?
Cruel, can't unlock My Device because My Surface Pro 3 can't handle the Power from the USB3.1 V30 Port in Fastboot. Windows said: "Overpowered USB Connection" once i rebooted into the Bootloader... Any Suggestions? Or do i need to use a modern PC?
How about using a crappy cord?
