[Q] Locally rooting my Sprint SG2

n00b I am, as I tried asking this in the wrong forum earlier today... Anyway, here goes my question again, hopefully in the right forum this time:
I've got a Sprint Galaxy S2 and I'd like to get root access to modify a few files. The thing is, I don't want to bring out the big guns and root it and put a bunch of extras on it (all these one click rooting programs always come with something more than just root access). All I want to do is get root access to my phone for a few minutes so I can modify a few system files. After that, I don't need root access, and would even prefer not to have it. I tried zergRush, but it doesn't seam to work for Android 2.3.6 (it told me there were "Hellions with BLUE flames!" ).
I've searched and can't find anything out there that'll grant me root access to my phone without also installing various ROMs/programs/kernels that I don't want. I want everything to be the same on my phone when I'm done except for a system text file or two that I modify. Is there anything like zergRush that works for Android 2.3.6?
(P.S. I'm a programmer by trade so you can speak tech if you like)
EL29 isn't directly rootable. I suggest you use one of the pre-rooted ODIN One-Clicks in my signature. Everything I put out is the minimum for root and nothing additional added.
If you want root removed, use Option B of the Auto Root sticky. It will 100% remove any trace of root and you will be left with 100% stock.

agreed sfhub has the best root program for this phone. and it is just as easy to unroot when you are done. definitely go with the in click from sfhub.

Want STOCK ROOT for Note 2 with 4.4.2 after OTA from AT&T

I am looking to just get ROOT without any changes in the stock kernel.
I don't want the weird name sounding ROM's or any of that.
Just some way to get root so I can load Titanium Backup and FREEZE the AT&T bloatware
I just go the OTA today (11/14/14) when I turned my phone on. It's the AT&T SGH-I317
and now say
Android 4.4.2
Build Number
KOT49H.I317UCUCNJ1
Device Status
Official
So is there a quick and easy way to do this?
I use a iMac BUT I can boot into Windows 7 Ultimate also (which from rooting phones before I usually always go that route).
Any help/directions would be appreciated.
Also this, who comes up with those weird names for different ROM's that NEVER really explain, in plain old English, what they do?
I can't (or don't want to) learn the syntax lingo used to find a working ROM that does just a simple thing, give you ROOT, even after reboots/yank battery/etc.
Maybe a one-click solution?
thanks :fingers-crossed:

You should try CF Autoroot
any confirmation that CF root works on 4.4.2 with NJ1 OTA update/
as soon as someone gets a root to stick
and I mean just standard, stock adding su to the mix
post the steps as to how you did it
a one click root would of course be the best......
but at least tell us how you did it, and screen shots to show would help too.
thanks

I haven't gotten root with Odin yet. No brick in and everything shows custom but US throws an error

Help with my New LG g3 As985

So i recently purchased the Lg G3 on Ebay because it was on sale and it seem like a good deal...............anyway ive had lots of phones from iphones to androids, i always love to root my devices now the issue now is that i cant seem to find a way to root this g3 with the one click root method or any other method (expect Kingroot). Everytime i try the one click root or any root it does all the loading and process and reboots but no super su or root happens. I finally looked around and found a post that said to use kingroot and i did and it worked, but the reason i want to root my device is to flash other roms and tinker with other things and i dont know how to do that without a recovery menu like twrp. I have the LG G3 AS985 which has literally no support anywhere when it comes to rooting or anything. So if i can get someone that knows either how to root it with one click or with kingroot and have the recovery work with it OR if he can at least show me how i can do it without a recovery meaning flash roms and stuff without a recovery using kingroot . (im a noob sorry) or if i can at least upgrade to marshmallow to have something a little nicer anyway any help would be great.
sidenote: i heard that i may be able to use the vs985 recovery with the as985 but i really dont want to brick my phone. Again im a noob so go easy on me pls.
Tried to post link but im a new user so here is the phone
Phone: LG G3 AS985
Firmware: 5.0.1

Help with best root method out of the following:

Hi, been away a while and have spent the last 3 hours reading but still a little confused and don't want to brick my wifes 'new' lg g4 (13b). I would like to root but am getting confused w/ all the possible options:
-lgup: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803
-low effort root: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4...t-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765
-New Root Method for LG devices: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
-"13b rooted system image & KDZ" : https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/vs986-rooteddebloated-t3256814
-VS98613b saved image and rooted: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/vs98613b-saved-image-rooted-t3258794/page8
I simply want the safest / easiest method to root and install twrp. I'll likely flash the multi-window mod and hotspot mod and thats about it. Also, if there is a debloated stable rom i ought to flash on this please advise as well. Thanks for any tips!!! I'm really in a frozen state and don't know what the latest best options are available since i rooted my G4 nearly two years ago!!!
No TWRP available for VS986 due to locked bootloader.
Easiest way would be to use a saved rooted image.
I used the method in second link to learn how to root the image myself.

I need help please rooting N910V on Marshmallow

I got a stock N910V with Marshmallow 6.0.1 that I am trying to root.
I tried the method decribed here using Kingroot and unlock_N4 but Kingroot
for some reason will not not work on my phone. Does the other root method I
found, using TWRP and SuperSU work? I was trying to find the correct version
TWRP on the original site and I cannot find it for the Note4, just the Note4 Edge
which I am not sure is correct file(I am afraid to brick my phone). Could someone
please advise me how I can root my phone the correct and safe way?
thank you

The TWRP link you're looking is here. For your purposes you'll want to get the .tar file so it can be flashed in Odin. However, the CF-Auto root method won't work for our phones unless you have a developer edition 910V. And even then your bootloader would be stuck on KK.
You could try the guide I wrote recently found here.
Go ahead and get anything on your phone that you want to keep copied to your pc and factory reset your device. Kingroot is unstable enough as it is without anything conflicting with it. If you start clean it should hold up for you long enough to get the commands entered .
Thank you so much for your help. Will the hybrid firmware change the ROM that is on the phone? What mode do I have
To use in Odin and is there any risk bricking the phone?
Thanks so much

Yes, the hybrid firmware will change your rom to stock Lp, but that's really only temporary so the root exploit will work. It does not work on MM stock.
To flash in Odin you want to use Download Mode. The correct way to enter download mode is to power off the phone, pull the battery for about 5 seconds, put the battery back in, and hold vol. down, home button, and power button at the same time.
As far as bricking goes, there is a risk of soft bricking your phone, but there's always a way out so long as you use only the files provided in the guides. I did forget one thing though in my guide, if you've never done this before you'll most likely need to install Samsung drivers to your pc. Samsung drivers
Just take your time and read the instructions a couple times before you do it. As a matter of fact I would read all the guides on this forum for unlocking the bootloader just so you get a couple different takes on it. If there's something your not sure of just let me know.
I thank you so much for your assistance. I rooted other Samsung phones, even a Galaxy S7 and it was much easier. Should I try the factory reset first and then try Kingroot again? All I got with Kingroot is no root
method found. Or should I go with the firmware upgrade?
thanks for you help
Don't use kingroot. Use kingoroot. Kingroot never worked for me but Kingoroot did.
My malware software detects Kingorooot as a Trojan, so I am not so sure about it. I tried it anyway and it stops at 90 % every time I try.
