First time rooting. LG G3 with stock Lollipop.

Hi guys, I'm completely new here but were recommended the place if I want to root my Android device. I'm coming from an iPhone 5 which I unfortunately broke after a jailbreak, but I ended up with this LG G3 (16gb / 2gb ram). Though, I want stock Android 5.0 Lollipop on it, instead of the LG variant with Nova Launcher on top. I have taken backup of everything on my phone but I have no experience at all rooting Android, so will this be near impossible for me without breaking my phone?
Right now I'm reading the FAQ thread and see that I should ask in this forum. I also checked which version G3 I have, and it's a D855 bought in Europe. So I assume it's the D855 - 10A/B/C (Europe) one I got on this list.
I see all of the rooting software is usable with my device, so which one would be recommended for someone who is super new to this?
Reading this thread, I take it I should root, and then flash the pre-rooted Lollipop. What does it mean if it is pre-rooted?
Right now, I must admit, I feel very lost in this brand new world of rooting.

Hi, I have the same version of you and its not complicated at all.
First you really need to know what are the terms for this, like TWRP and so.
In my case i went back from stock lollipop to kit kat, then root with purpledrake (easy and fast), then i followed this order: super SU -> busybox -> TWRP manager. All this appz are available in the google store and they are easy to use.
Once all this steps are done you can flash a bumped stock rom or go with a custom one, i went for cloudy 2.1 and its by far the best experience i had with my g3.

Will it be the exact same Lollipop version as the one on, let's say, a Nexus 6? With the same icons in the navigation bar at the bottom?
Because I can already get Lollipop on my LG G3 by just updating it. But I want the stock experience that Nexus users also have.

but! this is still LG theme, not really lollipop, you can flash the official CM for pure lollipop if you like (minus lg apps camera, quickAPPS etc)

Yeah, I want the pure Lollipop experience. Without the LG theme. Is there a step-by-step for doing this?

Can you root the latest update and use xposed? Pros and Cons?

Cant make much sense of all these threads. Always used a highly customized and unlocked international Nexus. But this US Verizon phone seems to be difficult to customize.

You definitely can root this phone and install exposed. The biggest issue is that the bootloader is locked and doesn't look like it's going to be unlocked anytime soon. So for the most part, no custom roms. Another downside if that of something goes wrong on root, your options to get your phone back up and running are limited to using a KDZ file if one is available for the specific version your trying to root, or push a stock system image if you made a back up. Sf today the latest 13b software has a KDZ thanks to autoprime. I haven't done much customization, so I can't shall to that.

Where can find a step by step guide how to flash a rooted image? What precautions are necessary to get back to stock in case something goes wrong? I need to costumize my phone.

Following this guide will allow you to make a backup of your stock system image and root your own image. It's easy and straightforward.

Google lg g4 root xda
From there, you'll see a link to a low effort root, that teaches you how to flash system image.
I tried KDZ method but the KDZ image I loaded wasn't rooted...

It is super easy to do. I will say the low effort root page should be updated with a * or something to say hey, the latest version for the verizon lg g4 is 13b. Also the flashfire method to install xposed takes 15 minutes. I also like using g4 tweaksbox.
This is my first few days with the g4. I have had the g3 since release. Much faster. Familiar. Liking it so far. Battery life seems great. But I am delaying greenify, amplify, etc, to see if I even need it.
Kinda shocked there isnt more activity around here tho!

I have successfully rooted my G4 and Xposed is up and running. I do have a kinda dumb question. Can i move my rooted.img & system.img to my external SDcard to save some space? Just want to make sure. Thank you in advance.

H810 Root/Unlock 20n?

So I got an ATT LG G4 the other day. I've been looking around on the web and the news doesn't seem good for root and/or bootloader unlock. I've looked everywhere but seem to only find guides for 5.X.X. Currently, it's on the 20n build which is Marshmallow. How would I go about getting root or custom ROMs? If I'm on 20n, is it still possible to flash the rooted image for 10G/O (?? I can't remember which one I saw that was a rooted img).
Mainly, I would like to adjust DPI and change my emojis to stock and boost volume, so I would be content with just root. I just need some clear answers. It seems that Marshmallow just came out recently and there's not a lot of info.
If any can share, that'd be great! Thanks

Don't do it
there is a security feature that detects a partition rollback and disables the phone if you try that method. I'm looking for a way to do it myself. We are waiting for an unlocked bootloader for now.

Question about H815P Root

I got my G4 2 days ago and I really want to root it, but unfortunately I realised I have an H815P model and can't be bootloader unlocked, so I can't root it.
I looked around for ways to get past this little inconvenience and found there is a way to root without an unlocked bootloader. The problem now is, this method seems a little old and was originally created for Lollipop, but my phone shipped with Marshmallow already installed and on firmware version 20D.
So the question I want to ask is, will the method of extracting the system.img and injecting root and flashing that back, work with Marshmallow and my variant of the G4?
And if that is indeed possible and will work, will the root files from this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765) work with Marshmallow, or is it specific to Lollipop?

Something else I also want to add: my phone info in settings says it's an H815P model, but the Droid Info app on the play store reports it as a 'regular' H815. Does this make a difference, or is it just the app's inability to report the proper variant?

You cannot root on marshmallow.. I downgraded my device to Lollipop using KDZ files and then injected root by flashing the rootedsystem image

If you have a H815P device you can't unlock the Bootloader so the only way to root it -for now -is on Lollipop. To get root access on your device you have to do this:
1. Downgrade to 10c (Android 5.1) w/ LGUP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803)
2. Get root access on 10c (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765) (don't listen to the warning not to use on H815P .. it works)

This would mean then that I won't be able to upgrade to Marshmallow, or any other upgrades that comes after that?

U will be able to go back to stock. When u decide u don't want root anymore u can just flash the correct kdz for h815p and u back to stock

Also you dont have to flash H815 kdz u can just extract your current system img and inject root with a ubuntu vm

Both methods work well ive tried both on my device

You can always upgrade via LGUP but if you want to have root access so you must be on LP

Thank you everyone for your help and advice. I've downgraded and rooted now and it worked, with a slight side-effect; the downgrade formatted my internal storage and I lost all my pictures and other data
I wish the guides were a little more clear about this, that downgrading would format your internal storage, as well. At least I'm rooted now.
So, can anyone recommend an undelete program that actually works and can restore my lost pictures, specifically?

Newbie wanting to root Lenovo P2: How to do it

I have a Lenovo P2a42 UK version on 3 mobile.
I haven't rooted a phone before and would like to know how to root my phone.
Firstly, should I root to stock android first and then consider other ROMs?
Secondly, should I root from the UK version (SO56) to the ROW version (S232)?
Finally, what is the best way of rooting to LineageOS in a secure way? What is the best site to download the necessary files?
Sorry for all the questions but any help would be really appreciated.

A. see the comment 1,2,3,4 on any custom rom thread or simply download aad on su from :- https://download.lineageos.org/extras
and flash it using twrp (remember change data to ext4 otherwise root may not work)

Entirely up to you, but I'd upgrade to the newer stock ROM for now rather than using a custom ROM. You will lose VOLTE support and some other features, like the battery saving switch / LED notifications.
If you do plan on rooting, use the guide in the TWRP post here on the Lenovo P2 forums. However, it'd be wise to read up on what you can actually do with root. Myself, I rooted in order to install a custom boot animation (tricky and not the standard method on Lenovo stock ROM), change fonts (a little frivolous considering you're losing warranty for it), and mainly to add a hosts file for system wide ad blocking. You can use magisk to root (there's a forum dedicated to it) but I have had quite a few problems with it.
Also, if you root, you lose access to some apps such as android pay, and lose access to features in certain apps (banking apps for example). Magisk claims to work around these problems, but it's tricky to install and upgrade and doesn't always work. I almost got stuck in a bootloop using the default uninstaller, and had to modify the installer by hand in order to get newer versions to install. On top of that, the magisk module system doesn't seem to work, at least on my device.
Whatever happens, let us know what you choose to do and how you get on.
