Amazon Prime Video: fit to screen not working?!?!? - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Hi all,
am I the only one having such an issue with Amazon Prime Video app? The point is: the fit to screen button does simply nothing when pressed, the video does not stretch to fit the whole screen. With such a gorgeous big screen this is really a shame!

No Honor Note 10 under Android pie 9.0.0.186 also does this. Amazon prime video full screen toggle does nothing.

I made some more testing and I found out that some content can be stretched some other can’t. For instance: The grand tour, jack ryan, the purge (season 1) cannot be stretched. Dogman, 12 soldiers can. It seems like series cannot be stretched while movies can?!?!?

Watching FullHD films

I hv a Mi max 2 and when i watch Full HD films on it there r black bars on top and bottom of the screen. With Mi Max 3 does the black bars dissappear or they r still there but smaller? I'm thinking of upgrading but still hesitating.

Use mx player/pro and Stretch. Done. Mi max 3 and 2 now have full screen, lol.
No thank u i prefer watching films the way they were shot (natural aspect ratios). The way the film makers intend to show them. Streching films make everything look weird

Try it first before you knock it. You'll realize why. None of these phones are 16:9, so you'll never achieve this without stretching.
Tq opasha but everything looks taller/thinner at stretching to fullscreen w/ mx player.

I know, just need to get used to it. It works well if quality is good, but definitely better on mi max 3.
Actually, modern cinema films r mostly shot @ 21:9 whereas tv shows r 16:9. So d newer phones r more suitable for watching cinema films. However, i used MX Player's custom zoom feature to reduce the horizontal black bars and crop a bit on its sides. Its better than 'stretching' (looks way too weird).
Nevertheless i like 16:9 ratio screens better because i often browse + read on internet on landscape mode. I dont like mobile websites, too limited in options/features

Hmm, I must have got it confused with a different device. Mi Max 2 is wider, you're right.

The bars appearing for the OP on the Mi Max 2 must be related to the type of file he is playing because the Mi Max 2 should play the Full HD in full screen.

New user??

My daily driver is a oneplus 6t and the mate 20 x has caught my eye. Seen it on loads of YouTube videos. Only thing I am not sure about is the software emui coming from oneplus device. I can take the size and guess it will be better speakers, battery and camera compared to oneplus but how's the software.
Anyone else agree?
Been doing that past couple of days. Forum is dead on this device. This device if I purchased would be my very first Huawei device. Smartphonesfan looks like you have used a lot of different Huawei devices

I was looking at the Honor note 10 but it doesn't have the LTE band support for Canada. Ended up with the Mate 20 X and it is a very nice phone(except for the price!).
I always buy flagship phones, and this is my favourite. The stock launcher is great, and very fast, there's a couple of uninstallable bits of bloat. The camera, screen and speakers are really good. I use it heavily and still get over 2 days of battery. It flies with games and the Gamepad for it is kinda awesome. Its one of the few remaining flagships with a headphone port. For peace of mind I would have preferred ip68 water resistance and wireless charging but you don't have to charge it for long to get back up to 100% which mitigates that somewhat. The Official cases are great and sturdy. I have an unofficial clear view style purple case too, but it's loose fitting. It's a disappointment they don't accept micro sd cards, it's also a shame it doesn't do 4k 60fps (it only does 4k 30fps).
That's all I can think of currently.

Agreed, 4k is pointless for viewing on any phone but not so if you take your recording and view it on a big screen.

4k TV, yes, obviously need that. Most of us with a home cinema use hard drives. My screen is 3.7m.

Prime Video app.....arghhhh

First day on my brand new Mate 20 X (L29) and first question: is there any way to make prime video app fit to screen the video? Left alone the max video streaming and download quality which are nothing to write home about (0.46GB/h), I would love to be able to have the video to fill the whole beautiful screen.
Thanks in advancd

VR headset compatible OnePlus 7 Pro ?

Hi, I have a Homido v1, and it is too much small for the oneplus 7 pro !
Does someone could recommend me a VR headset compatible ? (size and maybe resolution)
I think it could be a really good mobile for VR games.
Thanks.
Hi, I bought the homido v2 because it fits.
But the screen size is too big for the lenses, I have to zoom out the content to be good, but not all games have this feature (tested with fibrum, there is the function "correct lenses").
It's strange that there is no VR headset compatible, this is not the only 6.6' screen size.
I think it's the aspect ratio that's the issue.
Ok, so there are just 2 solutions, we wait for a compatible headset, or maybe there is an app to change the ratio ?

OnePlus might even come out with their own since it's their highest resolution phone so far and full screen display.

Thanks! I wait for your feedback.
I already saw this one, I think they updated, because now it's: 4 - 6,5 inches. that's good.
But the max size of the phone is: 163mm * 83mm, the onplus 7 pro is 162.6mm, so it should be fine, but I would like to know if it fits with a case.
And also what about the comfort ? The phone is pretty heavy, so with the homido v2 it pushes on the nose.
Thanks!
Google daydream VR headset is working great with 7 pro. You'll need to install daydream enabler module over magisk, and limit display to 60Hz.

I tried it in a store, and it is too small.
The phone exceeds on the sides.
And why 60hz?

Size is of no concern at all. It's made to hold large phones such as pixel XL. Software is not supporting 90hz. It will work, but you'll be bothered by some pixelation issues.

Okay, but the screen ratio is good ?
I mean the width distance of the lens?
Because if I remember well, the daydream was comfortable.
Yes, everything works perfectly! Here's current special: https://mashable.com/shopping/deal-june-14-google-daydream-view-vr-headset-amazon/
Can't you just make a custom profile for a viewer you have: https://wwgc.firebaseapp.com/ ?

Which phone should I buy?

Hello everyone
Which phone should I buy?
1. S10 plus
2. Note9
3. P30 pro
4. Mate 20x
5. LG G8
6. LG V50
7. Any other
Plz reply with Which and Why?
Thanking in advance.
I would go for the P30 Pro or Mate 20X. The cameras are outstanding. The battery life is really good. However, if you want lots of pen functionality and added bloatware/extra functions, go with a Samsung.
Mate 20 X, good camera, big screen and battery life. If there was no Mate 20 X, i would go for the Note 10 Pro. Besides that ugly camera hole and curves, the 6.8 inch screen looks really nice on Quad HD.
Or:
The Vivo Nex 3 if you like waterfall screens? (i don't). Large 6.89 inch screen, no notch/camera hole, good camera. But yeah still only realeased in China.

OnePlus 7T Pro if you want a 6.67 inch 90Hz screen without notch and camera hole. Also Quad HD, but tiny lower than Note 10 Pro. It has also a curved screen.
Note 9. It has led notifications.

I went for the mate 20x for these reasons :
Beautiful 7.2 inch screen with no interruption aside from a tiny notch.
No useless curves.
It's smooth and fast.
Supports a normal sized pen and it has some fast tricks for notes that I love as an architect.
The cameras are good enough.
It's symmetrical design ( ocd)
The storage is way more than I ever need.
I love the IR blaster I use it daily
The speakers are phenomenal
Watching Netflix on here is so damn awesome.
Mine came with the pen and the flip case plus the one in the box which I like.
To me it was the cheapest option compared to the note 9 and the oneplus 7 pro { which both has useless curved screen)
I am a screen fanatic and tbh I love the screen on here.
You won't go wrong with the mate 20x
Goodluck

Very good positives noted in favor of the Mate 20x most of which I also agree with.
I had a OnePlus 7 pro, and by the grace of God I would have kept that device if it weren't for the overly aggressive on the verge of offensive curved edges.

Yeah I agree with you, I would have definitely went for the one plus 7 pro if it had flat screen. Flat will always be my first choice.

I would recommend mate 30 pro, i know it's not in the list, but if I want to buy new phone I will certainly buy mate 30 pro even Google issue is not 100% resolved, simply because it great phone.
I managed to get a Mate 20 Pro for £152 brand new from O2. It's a great phone with everything you could ever want and will only get better with EMUI 10. However I found the fingerprint sensor very temperamental and I rely on it for banking apps and last pass. Also I found the screen a bit on a small side although it's 6.4 inches it's noticeably much smaller than my previous Note 9 which I sold on due to average camera and battery life. However, OneUI on the Note 9 is right up there with Oxygen OS and 'stock' in my opinion. Screen size was also spot on and speakers very good.
Now I'm using the Mate 20 X and it's a great phone, amazing screen and speakers and good battery life. I do miss the faster charging of the Mate 20 Pro and the lack of waterproofing and although the screen is very good, it's not 2k. There's always pluses and minuses with any phone.
I purchased two Huawei Mate 20 x EVR L29 phones, one for myself and one for my wife. They have been great phones and very useful as we have travelled throughout Europe and the United States. I love the large screen which allows us to clearly read articles on the Internet, E books, etc., However for daily use I'm beginning to find my phone just a bit too heavy. It is often nearly hanging out of my shirt pocket and it becomes slightly uncomfortable after more than an hour of using it to read with. For that reason I have purchased as Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus which I will carry as my daily phone. I will list my Mate 20 x for sale while keeping my wife's Mate 20 x for travelling. The Note 10+ is a good phone and practical for daily use, but it doesn't come close to the big screen experience of the Mate 20 x.

This is why we can't have nice things.
Expected €2400 price point.
That's why screens are getting narrower and narrower, phablets have ceased to exist across the entire industry, and no Mate 30 X. Cut costs, then clear the way for gigantic profit margins on super high end products that have fatter screens.
