Internal storage full - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I’ve tried many suggestions to free up space on my AFTV, but it’s still 91% full. I’m down to very few apps. All of internal storage folders in ES file manager are basically empty. In the summary of the internal storage analysis, it says “others” is 4.95 gigabytes. I don’t know what else to try.

If your not rooted , just do a factory reset.

It might be that the recycle bin is turned on in es file explorer. Go check the es recycle bin. All the stuff you deleted may be in there taking up space.

Storage Memory

My XDA 2s is reporting that 18.49mb of storage memory is being used at present and I only have the default per savebackup there after a hard reset how can I clear the Storage area?
Many thanks
I've cleared everything off the Blue Angel out of the Storage folder and even tried restoring the official O2 1.31 ROM and even on the 1st reload with just the persavebackup folder that contains just a few small files the memory applet reports that 18.49 meg of of 43mb storage area is already used? I'm sure all 43mb this area was available before?
Has anyone any idea what this could be, is there likely to be a hidden folder there I can't see? Is there a utility available for viewing hidden files? I even tried the trial version of resco explorer but it does not show anything there. Or is there a way of moving the persavebackup to the SD card so I can gain exclusive access to storage and perform a format?
Thanks for any help this is really starting to puzzle me.

You have XBMC on there? The thumbnail directory can get large with a big library.
You can delete it, but unless you find do an alternate location, it's going to rebuild. You can find the thumbnail location on the XBMC wiki. There's also a thread here about changing the advancedsettings.xml to store them on a USB mounted share. You can also store them on a central server which is what I do.

i deleted the thumbnail directory but there is still another 3gb that i cannot find using es file explorer. I think the FTV builds it's cache somewhere else than the sdcard and i cannot seem to find it.

DIskUsage is a simple little app that works well on the Fire TV. Sideload it and use it to determine which apps are using all your storage. If you have apps with a lot of storage under "data", you can move that to an externally attached USB drive if you're rooted.

check (not sure of exact path but something like) sdcard0/.android/.estrong......./tmp where it caches sideloaded files if you installed apps using es explorer. (or wipe cache in es explorer maybe)
have you gone into settings in the Fire TV Home screen and looked at each applications cache? Photos had 375MB when I looked and I don't even use photos (probably for the screensaver I guess..)
fixed finally

Big thanks for the tip. I got diskusage and opened it. I have over 600MB of ace stream files visible in ES file explorer. After updating ES, I was able to right click on those files and delete them. I check Kodi in system and now back to 1.5G free space. Thanks again, as all the youtubes and other suggestions about thumbnails, cache, etc.... are a total waste of time, they will not solve the problem.

Lost Vacation Photos While Moving to SD!

We were on our first vacation with our 2 year old and I took a day's worth of photos and at least an hour or two or video. I didn't realize the HTC camera app was saving to the internal SD and I hit my limit. I thought it was as clear as using Root Explorer to move the entire DCIM folder from the "storage" folder to the "sdcard" folder under the funny looking numbered folder that eventually points to the SD. In the process, it asked if I wanted to replace the target DCIM folder, and I thought sure, why not?
Now, my internal storage is barren and my SD card does not show the images I attempted to move... I'm in shock and sadness and currently trying to run FonePaw on the internal storage to see if It can recover anything. So far, it's found only the stuff I deleted months ago. There is the possibility while manipulating folders that I overwrote SD to internal somehow but I'm not sure how that might have happened.
I'm reluctant to install anything such as DiskDigger or Undelete Recover to the phone as that might overwrite more of what I'm trying to recover. Does anyone have any idea what I could have done and how I might get out of this mess? *sigh* MANY many thanks in advance to anyone that might be able to help out. I'm in such a state of sadness at the moment *double sigh*

Internal storage - no files, but not empty.

Hello. I have a problem with M9 internal storage - something takes about 3.5 gigs, but this "something" is not visible. I did factory reset, formatted internal storage from TWRP - still the same. Another phone (M9 too) after reset has internal storage almost empty, as it should be. So, is there a way to full format and run file sysmem check for internal storage? Via ADB maybe?
Check the data folder. Thats where all the crap is held. You can explore the system with es file explorer. Check the sizes of folders. Check /data/data.
Beamed in by telepathy.
The es file explorer is bloated with ads and unnecessary (and in case of the cleaner function even harmful) extra tools. There are alternatives like solid explorer.
If the phone got set S-OFF recently then it's completely normal that it lacks those 3 GB. There's a tutorial here on xda that explains how you can recover that space. I'll add a link to this post as soon as I find the guide.

OP3 Open Beta - Storage space taken by invisible files

Hey guys,
Since a few months I've got the issue that the storage space on my phone is taken up by a lot of (or very big) files which I cannot see. Today my phone was full so I deleted all my offline music which gave me like 20GB back, but there's still only 23GB of free space left.
When I go to 'Internal shared storage' the thing that takes up most space is 'Other' which takes up 21.64GB. When I browse all files on my phone through a file explorer, I cannot find anything that could take up more than 21GB. I can't find anything when connected to my laptop either.
I was hoping that it was a bug I read about a long time ago, where a reboot would fix it. But nope.. Rebooting didn't fix anything.
I've got the feeling that my music was copied to my phone more than once, but I have no way of finding out?
Does anybody here know how to fix this by any chance?
Install Es explorer,Run Space analyzer,go to All files section.
You can probably find the missing spaces or who ate them.
Check out dcim/.thumbnails.

Nope, only a few relatively small thumbnails.

That helped! Somehow I couldn't see the TWRP backups through regular file explorer but ES File Manager showed me those files. Got some space back!!
Search & Download : Secure Eraser. It will help to clear unnecessary hidden storage without deleting your personal files
Press Thanks, if i helped u out !!
Use TWRP?
TWRP > restore > select backup -> delete backup
